SPORTS BEAT Although there was no official press release from the Mets, word filtered out the team’s acting general manager, Zack Scott, had been terminated. Scott had been on administrative leave since September 1 after he was arrested in White Plains on a DWI charge. He was found sleeping in his car by police and subsequently failed a Breathalyzer test. He had attended a soiree the night before at the home of Mets owner Steve Cohen. While it seemed like a forgone conclusion Scott’s days with the Mets were numbered the moment he was arrested, his job tenure wasn’t helped by the Atlanta Braves winning the World Series last week. At the July 31st trade deadline, the Braves were trailing the Mets in the standings and had lost the services of their best hitter, Ronald Acuna, and a top pitcher, Mike Soroka, to seasonending injuries, as well as power hitter Marcell Ozuna to legal issues. Despite the seeming slim postseason odds for his team, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos decided to beef up his roster by acquiring outfielders Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Jorge Soler, and Adam Duvall at very minimum cost. All were major contributors to the Braves winning it all.

In contrast, the Mets did little outside of acquiring infielder Javier Baez and that came at the price of sending recent first-round draft pick Pete Crow-Armstrong to the Chicago Cubs. That was a heftier price tag than what Anthopoulos paid for the four players he got. Baez played well but the Mets still sank like a stone. The team was never able to overcome the loss of ace pitcher Jacob deGrom because of elbow issues. Scott was not able to find a credible starter who could stop the bleeding. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers should have heeded Bill Clinton’s advice when he famously said, “It’s not the crime which does you in. It’s the cover-up.” Rodgers was asked during training camp if he had been vaccinated by a reporter. “I’ve been immunized,” he quickly replied. Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19, but it turns out it wasn’t a breakthrough case because he was never vaccinated. By pretending he was, however, Rodgers violated NFL protocols for players who have opted not to be vaccinated by not wearing a mask when he wasn’t on the playing field and that included at press conferences. He needlessly put people at risk through his big lie.

Bob Costas, who grew up in Commack, made a surprising revelation on last week’s “Marchand and Ourand Sports Media” podcast. He told the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand and the Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand that when David Letterman left NBC for CBS in 1992 after the Peacock Network decided to replace Johnny Carson with Jay Leno, he wanted to take Costas with him. “CBS was willing to give me the hour following Letterman with my own interview show. To sweeten the pot, they were willing to make me a correspondent for ‘60 Minutes.’ I decided to stay with NBC because at the time they had a treasure trove of sports for me to cover.”

TECHNOBEAT

Rezz

Happy holidays to everyone out there! I hope you are spending time with your loved ones and relaxing. It’s been quite the wild ride of a year regarding live music, but it brings me joy that there are more and more shows coming back for you to experience. With that, there has also been tons of new music being released and artists are working harder than ever to bring you the ultimate music adventure to embark on. So, let’s get into it! Sullivan King has been gaining more and more traction over the years as he fuses heavy metal and dubstep together to form the electronic blend that we all felt we needed but was never accesible anywhere. He gets up on stage every time and throws down, in addition to actually shredding on the guitar during his performances. He’ll be performing with Blanke and LAYZ at Webster Hall on Dec 11 and that show is going to be a wild one. He’s recently started back out on his “Loud and Reckless” tour and is honestly one of the most genuine and wholesome people in the community today. He does everything he can for the fans and it shows as he has one of the most loving and loyal fan bases I’ve seen. Do not miss this show! It’ll be one you don’t forget. When you’ve check that show out, prepare the next weekend for two nights of Seven Lions at Avant Gardner in Brooklyn along with a wild lineup of support on Dec 17 and Dec 18. Seven Lions has cemented himself as the leader in melodic dubstep and has been in the scene for around a decade. You learn a lot in that time and his experience and skills show through. I got to see him in Austin, TX on this same tour and he outperformed all expectations. It was truly a cohesive performance and more varied than I expected it to be. Seven Lions knows how to keep the energy up in the crowd and transitions smoothly between genres, creating immersion for the concert attendees. Joining him on Dec 17 will be Trivecta, Jason Ross, Gem & Tauri, and Kill the Noise. The next night will display talents from Kill the Noise, Wooli, Gem & Tauri, and Last Heroes. The supporting artists selected for this tour add to the eclectic musical environment created from this tour. The production is captivating and the show as a

whole was one I enjoyed tons more than I was originally anticipating. Grab tickets and check this tour out! The last shows I’ll mention quickly are two top tier artists in the community who will both be playing a show on Dec 28. Steve Aoki will be at Nebula and DJ Snake will be at Marquee. Steve Aoki’s shows are known for their general effect, often combining fun party like stunts such as throwing cakes at his fans and crowd surfing in a raft. DJ Snake has many top hits over the last 10 years and plays every type of electronic music you can imagine and does it with style and ease. This is a packed December for shows and I hope you get to experience as many as possible! In November, Rezz released her 4th studio album, “Spiral”, and it hits just the right way. As per usual, she has lots of features throughout the album and a mixture of styles. Some songs are that straight up Rezz vibe that we all know and love. Some have more a dark pop music feel to them. Some are just unique in their own right and sound a bit experimental. Rezz has outdone herself once again. From slow wubs to more house wubs, we move onto Dr. Fresch. He is an innovator in the subgenre of GHouse and Bass House and mixes together traditional house tempos and sounds with a heavy driving

bassline, creating one of a kind songs and an energy that is hard to match. He recently did a remix of “Mawlee” by Riot Ten and has also put out a single titled “Armageddon” that I just can’t stop playing. Add on top of that an energetic person with unforgettably fun live performances, and you have a gem in the pile of house music artists. I haven’t been to a show of his that I didn’t like and I promise that you’ll be hooked quicker than you can imagine. Dr. Fresch is the doctor we need in these trying times. Once again, thanks for reading and have a happy holiday season. Feel free to reach me at richiegtechno@gmail.com. Keep ragin’ my friends!

WHEELS & DEALS MORRISON GALLERY BEATLES VS. STONES From the moment their songs crossed paths on the music charts and their planes touched down on U.S. soil and launched the British Invasion, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones kicked off a battle between music fans that’s been raging ever since. Whether one is Team Lennon-McCartney or die-hard Glimmer Twins fanatics, one thing everyone can agree on is that the sounds and images created by these rock and roll legends forever altered the path of music history — inspiring artists from The Beach Boys and Black Sabbath to Aerosmith and The Hives. In Beatles vs. Stones, Morrison Hotel Gallery explores the parallels as well as the differences between the two greatest rock bands of all time with a web-exclusive exhibition. You’ll revisit both bands wowing American television audiences, stripping down for a frolic in the surf (Beatles) or playing for a solo stripped-down fan (Stones). From John Lennon and Keith Richards each showing off their uncanny ability to emanate the utmost in coolness while posing for a variety of shots in their solo photoshoots to the Fab Four mirroring a Mick Jagger pose in a parka, the exhibition does a masterful job of showcasing the style, talent, and playfulness that helped these lads shape the music of the 20th century. The exhibition features images from David Magnus, Thomas Monster, Terry O’Neil, Stephanie Pfriender Stylander, Charles Trainor, The Vincent Vigil Collection, Robert Whitaker, and more. TARA DROUIN HELPS KIDS FALL ASLEEP Starlight is a lullaby written for children ages birth - age 8, that’s perfect to read to your child at bedtime. After releasing their debut EP Gaslight in January of 2020, and hitting Top 10 on radio charts with bands such as Suicide Silence, Code Orange, and even Ozzy Osbourne, the future looked bright for the young hardcore band from Long Island NY. Unfortunately, their April tour to promote the EP was cancelled and they were left show less with nothing to do but write and record. After entering the studio once again in August 2021, DETACHMENT now delivers another brutal, yet technical, offering with “Slug”, the first single off their upcoming 2022 full length. Metalcore band DETACHMENT has been on the NY scene since 2017, has played gigs with SWORN IN and CANE HILL, and has released several singles and a 7 track EP, Gaslight. DETACHMENT’s first full length album drops in 2022.

WOMEN WHO ROCK from my favorite Sci-Fi shows. Surrounded by that every day, Voyager was bound to happen.” The title track—produced by Kasbo and The Gifted—sets the tone for the EP. Valerie’s robust delivery echoes over icy piano and sparse guitar before the song climaxes on a sweeping hook, “Voyager, out there touching the stars. Passenger, going wherever you are.” Rachael Sage

POETICA OFFICIAL VIDEO With its meditative groove and inspiring message of resilience, Poetica’s “Unconditional” transports with hypnotic, Bollywood-style melodic strings, gospel humming and chain gang percussion. A collaborative spoken word music project helmed by New York-based songwriter Rachael Sage and 3x Grammy nominated cellist Dave Eggar, this cross-genre track spans from chill-out to alternative to jazz. Featuring trumpet player Russ Johnson (Elvis Costello) and ambient electric guitarist Gerry Leonard (David Bowie). With its roots planted firmly in experimental and boundary-pushing genres, Poetica is a cinematic, stylistically expansive odyssey. Its fusion of poetry with jazz, classical and Americana musical elements calls to mind such poets/musicians as Leonard Cohen, Laurie Anderson, and Patti Smith.

Florencia Andrada

ARGENTINIAN SINGER FLORENCIA ANDRADA Argentinian soul singer-songwriter Florencia Andrada (recently signed to My Grito Industries) has released a new single/ video “El Imperio.” Florencia says: “The song was recorded between Dec 2020 and July 2021 because of COVID. We recorded it in Estudios del Parral here in Buenos Aires. It’s about limits: man’s impunity and woman sticking together when another one has been hurt or abused. The bridge says : “Don´t you take too much time to wake up, the world is changing and peace is over.” The band: Florencia Andrada vocals & backing vocals, Julio Fabiani Guitar, Germán Pedraza drums y piano, Sacha Snitcofsky bass, Carmen Costa backing vocals, Camila Castagna backing vocals, Santiago Zarba baritone sax, Federico Álvarez tenor sax, Yair Lerner trumpet, Darinka Tejera flute. Produced by Florencia Andrada & Julio Fabiani (Sureños Records).

Valerie Broussard

VALERIE BROUSSARD DEBUT EP VOYAGER Platinum-certified singer, songwriter and powerhouse vocalist Valerie Broussard released her debut EP Voyager. The 4-track record presents Valerie’s brand of cinematic space pop uplifted by otherworldly vocals, vivid lyrics and expansive vision. “Voyager was inspired by my need for escapism during the height of the pandemic,” said Valerie. “With basically the entire planet on lockdown, space seemed like the ultimate adventure. I even decorated my new at-home recording studio with artwork

Anabel Englund

ANABEL ENGLUND SIZZLING VIDEO “Anabel Englund and Debbie Harry could be the same woman across different generations: a kick-ass vocalist initially

known as the tell-tale voice of a music group (Hot Natured and Blondie, respectively) before finding solo success…Englund steps a little more snugly in Harry’s stilettos with her new single ‘Midnight Rapture,’ which samples Blondie’s 1981 Billboard Hot 100-topping hit ‘Rapture.’ The original’s funky, Chic-inspired production gets a peaktime-dancefloor bassline boost, while Englund’s husky voice slinks and soars, building a scene where the party’s vibes are so high and the lust so intense that hearts could explode. Rapture in its definition means a feeling of intense pleasure or joy. For the “Midnight Rapture” video, Nikko Lamere—who has created memorable imagery for the likes of Noah Cyrus, Kehlani, Marina and Tiffany Young among others—creates a flashy glam world of fantasy around a late-night rendezvous with Anabel, capturing a neverbeen-seen-before performance from one of dance music’s hottest artists right now as she steps out from behind the decks to sing and dance.

Jesse Lynn Madera

JESSE LYNN MADERA DROPS “¡HOLA PAPI!” Singer/songwriter Jesse Lynn Madera has released a music video for her new song, “¡Hola Papi!” directed by Eduardo Sánchez (The Blair Witch Project, American Horror Story, Queen of the South) and produced by Nell Teare (Always Remember Me, Bolivar). The video, which premiered exclusively on DittyTV, is set in L.A. and features Jesse, her husband, actor Hemky Madera (Queen of the South, Weeds), and actor/producer Ryan O’Nan (Queen of the South, Fargo, WuTang: An American Saga). Jesse recently announced a monthly residency at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City and that she will be heading out on the road with iconic British psychedelic pop legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Zombies, on their Life is a Merry-Go-Round Tour this spring. CLASSIC ROCK

ROGER DALTRY There must be something in the water; hot on the heels of Paul McCartney off handedly insulting The Rolling Stones, now Roger Daltry (he’s the lead singer of The Who for the younger readers out there) has made a statement about the Stones being a mediocre blues band; it’s like the mid 1960’s all over again; what’s with the rivalry? The new generation of music fans don’t care about any of this and the older fans just shake their heads; no one cares about bands the way they once did, except, apparently, the surviving members of those bands. “What a drag it is getting old...” as Jagger once sang; at least The Stones are still a band and still on tour. Grow up everyone, life is too short.

JOHN LODGE NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has released a live version of his classic hit ‘Gemini Dream’. The song was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, and appears on John’s new album ‘The Royal Affair and After’ released on December 3rd. This is the second single from the album, and a video to accompany, featuring John and his band has premiered on the John Lodge YouTube page. “Gemini Dream” was originally released on the 1981 Moody Blues ‘Long Distance Voyager’ album, and reached no.12 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts, earning John Lodge and Justin Hayward an ASCAP award for song-writing. The song deals with the relationship between performer and audience, and you can see and hear the electric connection between John and his audience when he performs this song! Order ‘THE ROYAL AFFAIR AND AFTER’ here: https://orcd.co/ JohnLodgeTheRoyalAffairAndAfter

DIANA ROSS While the 1960’s ‘boy groups’ continue to scuffle, the biggest star of 60’s girl groups, Diana Ross, gifts us with a brand new studio album, called “Thank You”, released on the newly revitalized Decca Records label, which in itself was an amazing thing to see, as the Decca label was a mainstay in the early days of rock & roll and then somehow seemed to morph into the MCA Records imprint. The Ross album features a timely mix of lush ballads and very of the moment dance beat driven tunes, notably “If The World Just Danced” which has already been given the club extended remix treatment. While the 60’s boys pull each other’s hair, Miss Ross delivers the goods. The Ross-led Supremes had many more hit singles than the Stones or the Who, and went head to head with The Beatles through that electrifying 1960’s era.

THE HOLLIES 60TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR One of the most iconic bands in British music and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Hollies, are celebrating their 60th anniversary with their return to the US in 2022. “We felt like this is something no other band gets to do, celebrate six decades together, 60 years of this band and these songs means so much to us and so many others,” says Tony Hicks, the band’s original guitar player. “We’re incredibly excited performing for everyone on what will be some of the most special shows in the history of The Hollies,” adds the Hollies’ drummer of six decades, Bobby Elliott. Tickets are on-sale now here – https://www.theholliesofficial.com/tour The line-up includes powerhouse drummer Bobby Elliott, and singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist Tony Hicks, both of whom are original members of the band. They are joined by lead singer Peter Howarth, as well as bass player Ray Stiles, Keyboardist Ian Parker, and Steve Lauri on Rhythm Guitar.

ROCK RIOTS People are heading back out to clubs and big venues to ‘live’ shows, which is a great thing; but people are also behaving in the worst way possible which is not so great; the recent deadly stampede in Texas at a rap show reminded me of close calls at the old Commack Arena and other venues in the late 60’s and into the 70’s when lives were lost because a handful of jerks decided to rush the stage and such activity usually starts to spread like a deadly virus. Let’s hope that all parties concerned, artists, venues, and the fans themselves learned from this recent tragedy and will keep their ‘crazy’ in check when they go to see a show. Stay safe and be smart.

VANILLA FUDGE REMASTERED ‘RAMBLE ON’ VANILLA FUDGE throws out another re-worked Led Zep classic, this time it’s ‘Ramble On’ to go with the recently released ‘Immigrant Song’ and ‘Rock and Roll’. All 3 tracks come from the soon to be released album Vanilla Zeppelin. This is Led Zeppelin done ‘’Fudge’’ style. This remastered version of ‘Ramble On’ was released digitally via Golden Robot Records on November 30th. Although, at first, the band did not record original material, they were best known for their dramatic heavy, slowed-down arrangements of contemporary pop songs which they developed into works of epic proportion. Originally, Vanilla Fudge was a blue-eyed soul cover band called The Pigeons, formed in New Jersey in 1965 with organist, Mark Stein, bassist, Tim Bogert, drummer, Joey Brennan, and guitarist, vocalist and US Navy veteran, Vince Martell. They built a following by gigging extensively up and down the East Coast and earned extra money by providing free lance in-concert backing for hit-record girl groups. In early 1966, the group recorded a set of eight demos that were released several years later as “While the World Was Eating Vanilla Fudge”.

“JOLENE (DESTRUCTO REMIX)” For his “Jolene” remix, electronic music producer, DJ and tastemaker DESTRUCTO (Gary Richards) leans into an emotional, sublime and melodic style of deep house bolstering Dolly Parton’s unforgettable vocal. Every verse is retained in the remix, offering the listener the opportunity to indulge in Parton’s story telling of a woman trying to keep her man from a younger love interest through song. Meanwhile, the “Jolene” remix holds its country charm by its original signature string guitar roll throughout. “My little song ‘Jolene’ has been done so many different ways and I love them all, but I think this one is my favorite,” shares Dolly Parton. “It makes me want to dance! ‘Jolene’ has been part of my musical DNA since day one. It is a true classic not only for country music but American music. I’ve always felt its lyrics and melody could be the bones to build a real dance floor banger around.
