PAC TRACK

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN AT PATCHOGUE THEATER World-renowned guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 30, 1963. The youngest child in a household that included his mother Rigmor, sister Ann Louise, and brother Bjorn, Yngwie originally had no interest in music. However, on September 18, 1970, Yngwie saw a TV special on the death of guitar iconoclast Jimi Hendrix. Seven-year-old Yngwie watched with awe as Hendrix blasted the audience with torrents of feedback and sacrificed his guitar in flames. The day Jimi Hendrix died, the guitar-playing Yngwie was born. Yngwie will be at the Patchogue Theater on May 3rd at 8pm.Tickets: $35 - $75 plus fees. A NICHOLAS CAGE FILM FESTIVAL Good actor or bad? Hilarious Internet meme or misunderstood thespian in on the joke? Car connoisseur or self-indulgent consumerist? Westhampton Beach PAC will discuss all that and more between April 22 and April 24th. Featuring eight screenings of some of his best films (including Moonstruck, Face/Off, National Treasure, Adaptation, and Pig), and additional Nicolas Cage themed events between films, this is one weekend you’ll be saying, “You don’t say?” Caged In: A Nicolas Cage Film Festival is an homage to an actor whose career has spanned four decades and countless iconic characters. JANIS IAN NORTH AMERICAN TOUR! After more than five decades as a revered songwriter, Janis Ian is embracing a new milestone: the art of the farewell... Released in 2022, “The Light at the End of the Line” is Ian’s latest and last solo studio album to bookend a kaleidoscopic catalog that began with her 1967 self-titled debut. As her first album of new material in 15 years, “The Light at the End of the Line” also sets the stage for Ian’s final tour. The album is something of a victory lap for an artist who has nothing to lose, and nothing left to prove. “The Light at the End of the Line” is as graceful an exit as fans could want! “It takes a certain amount of maturity to realize that you don’t have to keep proving you can write. I’ve already created a body of work I’m proud of, and I’m old enough to realize that it’s the light at the end of the line that matters. And I’m not calling this retiring. It’s rewiring.” - Janis Ian TICKETS $65 – $69 at Suffolk Theater.

DIANE SHUUR AT MADISON THEATRE Diane Schuur captures the essence of Dinah Washington on her newest album with a reflective version of Washington’s well-known “This Bitter Earth.” Co-produced by Schuur and Grammy winning saxophonist Ernie Watts, the project entitled Running On Faith features Schuur’s piano performance throughout, release date May 8, 2020 on Jazzheads Music Group. On this project, the vocalist creates new versions of songs for which she has a deep-rooted affection. Schuur arranges music by some of her favorite performers and songwriters; from Miles Davis to Carole King to Paul McCartney. According to the artist, “I’ve been focusing on the condition of our world and chose songs that make a statement about what is and also some songs of hope, about what can be.” She will be appearing April 16th at 8 p.m.at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College 1000 Hempstead Ave Rockville Centre, NY 11571 Box Office 516-323-4444.

BOOKS It isn’t often that I find a book so interesting that I can barely put it down, but Ivan Sayles’ Overcooked is one of those books.

Overcooked by Ivan Sayles dict for dozens of years, he finally realized that the future was very dim if he continued on the road to destruction. “I don’t know why I thought I was special or why any addict thinks they are special.” he muses. “The only prize in the game of addiction is death.”

“From prep cook to ownership and all the sex, drugs and shenanigans along the way.”

If you were a fan of Anthony Bourdain’s books and his fascinating career, look no further than your backyard. Ivan Sayles is the Long Island version of the gastro superstar from New Jersey. Their lives are very similar. They both were trained at the impressive Culinary Institute of America, both have owned multiple restaurants, and both were drug addicts. Ivan Sayles’ book is a journey through the dark side of the restaurant world. A crack ad-

Make no mistake about it, this is a very raw book, but it is written by someone who felt the pain, and his mission today is to make others realize they can be helped. Going from addict to restaurant icon is a big journey, but a fascinating one. Ivan realized at an early age that he wanted to be a chef. He worked jobs at several Long Island restaurants, and was an integral part of the Jones Beach Boardwalk Restaurant, where he not only improved his cooking chops, but got an inside view of how to run (and not run) a restaurant. While sous chef at the Boardwalk, he met his business partner Rich, who has been through it all with him. What makes Overcooked special fun is its many references to Long Island. Ivan owned the Smithville Cafe for a while, where I dined many times. He is the current owner of Rachel’s Water-

side Grill, celebrating its 25th Anniversary, as well as Tropix, formerly Nawlins. And for good measure, he is the vibrant president of the Nautical Mile Merchant’s Association. Some of his chapters are dark, some are plain fun, but none are ever dull. Two that stand out are his fun story of his first meeting with singer Danny Keane in the men’s room of his restaurant, and a brief mention of Steve Beery when Steve worked at the Peacock Lounge as a bartender. Ivan opens up to talk about his youth and his growing up. One of the saddest chapters was about his aunt who died alone in her house in Brooklyn. For any of us who have had to sort through and clean out a loved relative’s home, this story struck a chord. Ivan has had quite a career, which has included wives, girlfriends, and a cast of characters as friends that would have made Jimmy Breslin smile. Through it all he has persevered. Arrested four times for drug possession, today he is a strong anti-drug advocate. And ironically, his relationship with the police has changed so drastically, that they bring donuts to his meetings. Overcooked is published by As Is books and is available for purchase at Amazon, and soon at local book stores. Or, you could do yourself a favor, stop by Rachel’s for a fine meal, and meet the man himself. Ivan is never at a loss for words. -Rich Branciforte

PREMIERING ON BROADWAY THIS SPRING If the box-office success of “The Music Man” (grossing over $3.5 million/week, with the highest ever average ticket price of $288 and premium seats at $697) “Plaza Suite,” and long-running hits is any indication, Broadway has bounced back to 85% of pre-pandemic attendance despite a rise in ticket prices. Joining these hits is a cornucopia of tantalizing new-to-Broadway productions: Billy Crystal returns to Broadway in a new musical based on his 1992 hit, “Mr. Saturday Night” starring as a stand-up comic and former TV star who attempts a late-career comeback as he also tries to mend his fractured family. David Paymer recreates his film role as Crystal’s brother, Randy Graff plays his wife and Chasten Harmon his agent under the direction of John Rando. Jason Robert Brown wrote the music and Amanda Green the lyrics. (Nederlander Theatre).

Paradise Square Photo by Kevin Berne

The ambitious new original musical “Paradise Square” recreates the world of New York’s poor Five Points neighborhood during the Civil War, where the harmony between Free Blacks and Irish immigrants is ruptured by the 1863 Draft Riots. Directed by Moises Kaufman, Joaquina Kalukango (“Slave Play”) heads the 38-member cast as the owner of a salon where Blacks and Irish intermingle. Music is by Jason Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Masi Asare. Bill T. Jones’ choreography features Irish clog and tap dancing. (Barrymore Theatre.) Director and choreographer Anne Tournie’s immersive experience “The Little Prince” combines acrobatics, aerial artistry and dance to recreate Antonie de Saint-Exupery’s beloved 1943 novella about a boy from another planet who visits earth and describes his fabulous adventures and learned wisdom to a downed aviator. Adapted and co-directed by Chris Mouron, who plays the narrator. Music is by Terry Truck. (Broadway Theatre.) 6 • Good Times Magazine - April 12 - May 9, 2022

“Will & Grace’s” Debra Messing bakes a butter cake in real time on stage, every performance, in her return to the theater in playwright Noah Haidle’s “existential dramedy” “Birthday Candles.” She plays an everywoman who ages from a teenager to a great-great grandmother while experiencing a lifetime’s joys and sorrows as she makes her mother’s famous birthday cake each year. Vivienne Benesch directs the Roundabout’s production. (American Airlines Theatre.) Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winner Tracy Letts (“August: Osage County”) stars as the mayor of a town with a deeply hidden secret about its foundation myth in his new political comedy “The Minutes” that explores political corruption, compromise and community complicity. Under the direction of Anna Shapiro (“August: Osage County”,) the cast includes Blair Brown, K. Todd Freeman, Jessie Mueller, Sally Murphy, Noah Reid and Austin Pendleton. (Studio 54.) Advertised as Broadway’s “uproarious new comedy about the women in charge of the man in charge of the free world,” playwright Selina Fillinger’s (“The Morning Show”) Broadway debut, “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive” is a modern farce about the women who try to do damage control when the POTUS creates a global crisis. Lilli Cooper, Lea DeLaria, Rachel Dratch, Julianne Hough, Suzy Nakamura, Julie White and Vanessa Williams play the President’s loyal enablers under the direction of five-time Tony-winner Susan Stroman. (Shubert Theatre.)

SPORTS BEAT Yankees fans won’t have Gary Sanchez to kick around in 2022. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman finally put up the white flag on last month when he traded him to the Minnesota Twins, along with third baseman Gio Urshela, for slugger Josh Donaldson, catcher Ben Rortvedt, and shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Both Rortvedt and Kiner-Falefa are considered to be defensive wizards. Sanchez was an enigma. He hit massive home runs and could carry the Bronx Bombers when he was hot. Unfortunately, he would go into deep slumps by chasing bad pitches. His propensity for passed balls drove both his pitchers, and Yankees fans, batty. The Mets are hoping Chris Bassitt, who they acquired in a trade with the Oakland Athletics the day after the lockout ended, will be a reliable starter who can take some of the pressure off of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. Mets general manager Billy Eppler had little interest in resigning Medford native Marcus Stroman. Perhaps it was economics. More likely, the Mets were not happy with Stroman’s prima donna attitude. The end of the lockout meant that baseball could celebrate the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson integrating Major League Baseball which is occurring on April 15, 2022. Veteran sports author Kostya Kennedy has a new biography titled “True: The Four Seasons of Jackie Robinson” (St. Martin’s Press.)

Yes, Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers years are reviewed in great detail, but what I liked most about “True” is how Kennedy devoted many pages discussing Robinson’s post-baseball lif. He was a Chock Full O’Nuts executive who hated firing people and was also known for Rockefeller Republican politics. Mike Krzyzewski, better known as “Coach K,” finally called it a career after having coached the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball for the last 42 years. New York Post sportswriter Ian O’Connor, who has written many terrific sports books, has now produced the definitive biography of the best known college basketball head coach since Bobby Knight. It’s simply titled “Coach K” (HarperCollins.) O’Connor gives a balanced view of Krzyzewski as he cites how many of his former players revere him. On the other hand, Coach K is anything by saintly. Even though Duke University is one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the country, Coach K couldn’t care less. He was happy to have players who had no concerns about academics as long as they helped him win NCAA championships. At gatherings of Duke Blue Devil alums, he treated those who helped him win a championship far better than those who didn’t. Krzyzewski was such a control freak he even lectured reporters from the Duke college newspaper if he didn’t like their postgame questions. FOX NFL studio analyst Jay Glazer has long been known for being one of the hardest-working journalists in the business. When it comes to getting scoops, he and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, are like Coke and Pepsi. Glazer has written his first book, “Unbreakable” (Dey Ian O’Connor - Author Street Books,) which shows a far different Photo credit, courtesy of Kyle O’Connor

By Lloyd Carroll side of him than what we see on television. While he recounts his early days trying to hustle media gigs in New York, as well as his friendship with Michael Strahan, Glazer talks about his struggle with depression which he has endured since childhood. Glazer is known for his grueling workouts, mixed martial arts prowess, and for training top-tier athletes. I can’t think of a better spokesman for how mental health issues can affect everyone than Jay Glazer. Glazer’s longtime FOX colleagues, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, have jumped ship to ESPN to be the voices of their “Monday Night Football” package. My guess is ESPN CEO Jimmy Pitaro spent big bucks to lure FOX’s longtime top NFL broadcasting team not Jay Glazer - Author because he believed they would Photo credit, courtesy of the author bring new viewers to “MNF, but rather, to convince NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to give the Worldwide Leader in Sports a better package of games which will draw more viewers. New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz had a great quip about why teams lose games. “Turnovers are like ex-wives. If you have too many of them it will cost you!” Likewise, wags on social media joked that Tom Brady decided to unretire because of inflation and high gas prices. Stephen Colbert will be producing “Pickled,” a celebrity pickleball tournament

to be shown later in the year on CBS. Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. I enjoy watching AEW “Dynamite” Wednesday nights from 8 to 10 PM on TBS. The wrestlers provide nonstop action, have larger than life personalities, and most importantly, you can’t guess who is going to win the match. With the rival WWE, there are far fewer surprises. I do have a complaint however, too many AEW matches involve a plethora of chairs, tables, ladders, and even thumb tacks. Last month on “Dynamite,” the marquee match pitted Thunder Rosa against, Britt Baker, DMD for the AEW Women’s championship. Baker has an interesting story as she is a fulltime dentist in the Orlando area but loves to compete in the ring. In that championship match, Baker and Rosa spent more time setting up chairs and tables to throw each other onto, than they did wrestling. The stunt work was needlessly dangerous to begin with, and it became depraved when Baker threw tacks on the ring floor. I can’t see how those two were able to rehearse how the match would safely go down. Thunder Rosa emerged Stephen Colbert victorious.

MUSICIANS SUPPORT UKRAINE

Dee Snider and other supporters have joined together to set up the world’s largest mass protest to support Ukraine from the Russian invasion. They issued the following statement: We come from all walks of life. We are artists. We are combat war veterans. We are software engineers, journalists, and music producers. We come from every nationality, background, and way of life. We banded together to use our technology platform, story-telling and influence in order to not stand idly by as the Russian-Ukraine war unfolds. We are organizing the world’s largest mass protest in record time. A worldwide concert event to raise money and provide support for the brave people of Ukraine. In addition, a campaign to use the voices of artists to speak on our behalf to the people of Russia. There is no later, time is of the essence. If we do not stand up now and if Ukraine falls it is too late and evil entrenches itself. We must act together today to send this message. The alternative is World War and mass suffering. Your involvement in this event can truly change the course of the world. Are you with us? Do you stand with freedom loving people everywhere? We beseech you to be our voice, to carry our message to peoples in Ukraine and in Russia upon whom this struggle will fall. We want people in villages, cities, squares, parks, and arenas around the world to be out in the streets. This is the only way change will come, when we can all unite and tell despots and dictators that “We’re NOT Gonnna Take It!”. https://worldunited.live/

ORANGE LOOP ROCK FESTIVAL

LincStar Events announced the Orange Loop Rock Festival taking place at the Showboat Festival Grounds outside the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The weekend-long celebration of rock music and hair metal will feature iconic acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, Chevelle, Puddle of Mudd, Hoobastank, Hinder, John 5 and the Creatures, Stephen Pearcy, Great White, Doro, and more to be announced! Orange Loop Rock Fest is taking over the Showboat Festival Grounds at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 10, June 11, and June 12, 2022. The three-day event will include live performances, meet & greets, vendor village, midget wrestling, food trucks, exclusive after-parties and so much more. WHEELS & DEALS

BROOKLYN’S OCEANATOR “STUCK” “The cars break. Everything goes slow motion. There’s disaster and fire,” foretells Elise Okusami, describing her cinematic vision of the end of the world. Apocalypse is a subject she mined in acute detail and to critical acclaim on 2020’s Things I Never Said, her debut full-length as Oceanator. But in her most recent cataclysmic telling, she keeps the camera focused on the people who survive and need to keep on living. A couple escapes the wreckage in a classic pickup truck, their dog riding in the back. They find a new home in the woods and consider how to start over. “It could either be hopeful or negative,” Okusami explains of the tale’s ambiguous ending. “You’re either walking off into a nice sunset or going off into a black hole. For me, it depends on the mood; it can be both ways.” On Nothing’s Ever Fine, the world might end. But it might not. And while we wait to find out, Oceanator delivers a revitalizing smack of sound and energy, helping us to remember that even if things don’t turn out fine, we can make our time here worth it.

DE GROOT & TATIANA HARGREAVES Traditional music is not static; it shifts with the times, uncovering new meanings in old words, new ways of talking about the communal pathways that led us to where we are today. For master musicians Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves, traditional stringband music is a way to interpret our uncertain times, to draw artistic inspiration and power from the sources of meaning in their lives. History, family, literature, live performance, and environmental instability all manifest in the sounds, feelings, and sensations that permeate their new album, Hurricane Clarice. Recorded last year in the midst of a global pandemic and during an unprecedented heat wave that saw the city of Portland, Oregon burning under 120 degree heat, these two master musicians found themselves turning to their own communities, to their families, to bring that support into the music. And yet the beauty of Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves’ music is that they’re using these old sounds to speak to something new, to speak to a dying world.

LIZZIE & THE MAKERS In her role as the NYC-based Lizzie & The Makers frontwoman, Lizzie Edwards is assertive, yet vulnerable; defiant, yet proudly flawed. She remarks that she feels like “[she] can be a tornado or hurricane sometimes,” so it felt appropriate to begin this particular song – the band’s turbulent new single “Bottle” - with a severe storm warning. “Bottle” is a hard-hitting rockin’ blues track that’s taken from the band’s sophomore studio album Dear Onda Wahl produced by the legendary Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, Tin Machine) and Mario J. McNulty (David Bowie, Prince). Recorded at Mission Sound Recording in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, LP Dear Onda Wahl threads rootsy, shoegazey, psychedelic layers throughout its core. “Though influenced by traditional music genres, we were also heavily influenced by David Lynch and Twin Peaks in writing this album. So there is always a little bit of old and familiar mixed with alien, fantasy and the unexpected in our music,” remarks Edwards.

TECHNOBEAT

By Richard Joseph Branciforte

DJ Color

Crizzly Come one, come all to the special edition TechnoBeat covering the one and only South by Southwest from Austin, Texas. SXSW took a 2 year hiatus due to Covid and came back with a bang in 2022! There was everything from tech talks, live music, good food and drink, and an energy that can’t be matched. So let’s dive into it and see what SXSW 2022 had to offer. I’d like to first just touch on the overall vibe of SXSW. This year was masterfully put together and had a ton of unique experiences. Every bar, venue, restaurant was essentially taken over by some company or group, trying to get attention to their brand. Nonstop music playing for 10 days, drink tickets to entice you inside, and free swag so you don’t forget what you saw. One restaurant was taken over by White Claw and everyone who went inside got 4 free White Claws and free tacos. Live music from Petey filled the room with good vibes and sonic energy. This was only one stop and the whole week provided this kind of experience to all in attendance. Zora, and NFT marketplace, started my week off by bringing a slew of artists for Zoratopia. Performances from Andre Power, Latasha, and Vic Mensa happened throughout the day. Free BBQ didn’t hurt either. It was a celebration of hip-hop music with a great variation of talent and sounds filling the outdoor venue. Vic Mensa surprised the crowd and did a DJ set, something that isn’t usually typical of the artist. Latasha energized the crowd with her voice, sending chills through the audience throughout the night. And Andre Power was there to bring the dope beats. This was an all night event that was truly worth the time.

One of the most unique and interesting installations I saw was Wisdome. Put on by Wisdome. LA, this immersive art and music park included 36,000 square feet of interactive displays and multiple domes filled with a variation of music and people. Within each of the domes, multiple projects spoke to each other in harmony to fill the entire dome with trippy and mesmerizing visuals. An entire half of a sphere sat above everyone with nothing but 3D art being projected around. Some of the domes had DJs throwing down in the front of the dome and some had ambient lighting with calming sounds and grass to lay down and relax, thinking about nothing other than the bigger questions in life. Upon seeing all this, I immediately thought of the applications for live music and how this would be such a unique aspect to bring to any music festival. Hopefully, this trend catches on and we can see more of it in the future. Another surprise I found was at the Placeholder Bar. DJ Color TV was throwing down some fun times doing what he does best: scratch the decks. I always love seeing turntablists in action as they add something extra to the DJ sets we’re so used to seeing. Years of

practice and skill lead to mashing up beats and songs in an expert way. This is real DJing at its finest and I just can’t get enough of the technicality of the whole performance. It’s moments like these that make SXSW what it is. Walking around the town and finding the little guy playing at a local bar that just wows you. If you know me, you know I love electronic music. And I was thrilled that I found an event happening throughout Friday afternoon at The Venue. A full on day party with some of my favorites on the stage. Gamma, Cromatik, Crizzly, and Luca Lush took the stage to bring us some wubs and heavy bass. I’m used to seeing this stuff late night, but there was a warming sensation to going hard at 4pm with the sun still out. Crizzly and Luca Lush are artists I’ve been following for years and a free concert was what I needed. The pinnacle of the show was when all the artists in the showcase did a back to back performance at the end. You could see how much fun they were having up there and all the various styles that got showcased together made this one of my favorite events of SXSW. If I had an infinite amount of space, I could go on and on. I wanted to give you a little taste; a recap; a sliver of the experience I had during that week. SXSW truly is a magical time and place and the people and places you find on the adventure are ones you won’t soon forget. If you’re able to, adding SXSW to your calendar is a must. If you want to know more, feel free to reach out to me at richiegtechno@gmail.com and I’d be able to tell you more. Until then, keep raging my friends!

CLASSIC ROCK 50TH ANNIVERSARY, ABBA: THE MOVIE Presented by Trafalgar Releasing and Warner Bros., tickets for “ABBA: The Movie – Fan Event” went on sale on Wednesday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. EDT / 6:00 a.m. PDT at www.AbbaMovie.com. The film stars the members of ABBA, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Agnetha Fältskog, and was captured by director Lasse Hallström (“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “Chocolat,” “Dear John”) during the group’s mega-successful 1977 Australian tour. The now cult-classic music film provides a rare look at the hugely popular group during the height of their popularity and includes backstage footage as well as fulllength performances of some of ABBA’s greatest hits including “Dancing Queen,” “Tiger,” “Name Of The Game,” and “Eagle.” ROBIN TROWER NEW ALBUM The iconic Robin Trower will be releasing his new studio album, ‘No More Worlds To Conquer,’ on April 29th via Provogue. For more than six decades, Robin Trower’s career has known no bounds. At the age of 76, the British guitarist can reflect on a journey in which he has planted flags across the musical sphere and played every role imaginable. He’s been the driving force behind Sixties icons Procol Harum. The transatlantic solo star who filled US stadiums with 1974’s Bridge Of Sighs. The collaborator and occasional super group member. The elder-statesman songwriter whose late period still crackles with invention. Featuring vocals and bass from the late Jim Dewar – along with jaw-dropping guitar work from Trower that has influenced everyone from Steve Lukather to Opeth – the US-gold-selling ‘Bridge of Sighs’ is perhaps his flagship album.

WOMEN WHO ROCK

Ashley Myles by Shervin Lainez

Kathy Mattea by Reto Sterchi

KATHY MATTEA COVER Grammy award-winning artist Kathy Mattea released a special rendition of Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real’s “Turn Off The News (Build A Garden”.) The song was captured during a recent taping of Mountain Stage. I haven’t fallen this hard for a song in a good long while,” stated Mattea. “It makes its point in such an elegant way. It’s very rare these days to see something so skillfully written, not provoking or aggressive, but not backing away from the issue either.”

ASHLEY MYLES “DELIVERS THE GOODS” Soulful singer/songwriter Ashley Myles sings about tides, fires, and storms–all phenomena that could describe her voice on her new EP Tides. Last month, she dropped her scorching second single “Fire.” Tides EP showcases four tracks that dive deep into the understanding that there are situations we can’t change. The soul-infused pop songs carry their own, but it’s Myles’ voice that really lifts them up. Working with co-writer and producer Rob Kleiner (Kylie Minogue, CeeLo Green) in his Los Angeles studio, Myles transformed her songs into forces of nature. The Tides EP is available on all major streaming sites.

Gillian Hills

Charlotte Rose

CHARLOTTE ROSE BENJAMIN SINGLE Brooklyn-based artist Charlotte Rose Benjamin released a new single “Slot Machine” from her forthcoming debut album, Dreamtina, which is set for release on April 22. The song pairs jaunty guitar hooks with Benjamin’s stream of conscious, lighthearted lyrics about unrequited love and the “in between” feeling of being a millennial/gen Z cusp. The video was shot by Benjamin and frequent collaborator, Hlif Olafsdottir, documenting a leisurely day on a Williamsburg Ferry, a Chinatown Arcade, a Time’s Square dive bar and their favorite downtown karaoke spot.

GILLIAN HILLS “LILI” Gillian Hills, acclaimed British actress, singer/ songwriter, and graphic artist, comes full circle with compelling new LP, Lili and podcast: A Life in Art, Film + Music. Lili is an autobiographical testament to her years as a naïve young girl and later, as an influential teenage celebrity at 14. Hills collaborated with acclaimed musician, composer and producer Peter-John Vettese. Together they created an album of recordings that are at the same time secretive, seductive and exhilarating. Lili is an autobiographical account of her life from the ages of 11 to 19. To coincide with the release of Lili, Hills has issued her own four-part podcast entitled: Gillian Hills - A Life in Art, Film & Music. The extensive audio documentary features intimate and revealing interviews between Hills and the film critic and broadcaster, Anna Smith. GILLIAN HILLS’ PODCAST: A LIFE IN ART, FILM & MUSIC.

NEW ALANNAH MCCREADY SINGLE After garnering strong support for her most recent single, “Something Like That,” singersongwriter Alannah McCready has now released a new single titled “Can I Call.” The song tells the story of a long-distance relationship; a couple is living on two separate coasts, one of them is chasing their dreams and working to create a better life for them both. The song describes the Alannah McCready multitude of feelings by Alex Berger accompanying such a situation, including being in love, experiencing loneliness, and having hope for the future. The track is available on all streaming platforms. “Can I Call” is a mid-tempo duet between McCready and Will Gittens, who is one of McCready’s co-writers on the track. The pair wrote the song with Sterling “David” Gittens Jr. who also served as the producer of the track.

INDIGO GIRLS CONCERT SPECIAL Indigo Girls unite with members of their renowned backing band and special guests from across the globe for Look Long: Together, a career-spanning concert special featuring hits, rarities, and for the first time, full-band live renditions of songs from 2020’s Look Long album. Woven between multicam performances, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray discuss songwriting and reveal the inspiration behind signature songs in a series of intimate home movie segments. Look Long: Together is your evening with the Indigo Girls: a one-of-a-kind celebration of nearly four-decades of Indigo Girls music and community. More than your average livestream concert, Saliers and Ray decided to additionally film themselves at home in a rare and intimate setting. These vignettes compliment the performances and paint a rare portrait of the artists as they are at home. The duo discusses the creative process, inspiration, and more. Look Long: Together premieres on Sunday, May 8 at 6pm PT, 9pm ET on Veeps.com and can be purchased through May 15 at Veeps. com The concert can be viewed as many times as liked within a 48 hour window. RHYTHM TRACKING

With Jimi LaLumia

METAL SKID ROW ARE BACK Skid Row and earMUSIC join forces to announce the release of the anticipated new studio album The Gang’s All Here. This announcement coincided with the launch of the iconic hard rock band’s Las Vegas Residency (as the Scorpions’ special guests) on March 26, as well as the debut of their brand new single and the title track “The Gang’s All Here.” The album is available for preorder now in multiple configurations, including CD Digipak/1LP Gatefold (black, 180g); Ltd Splattered 1LP Gatefold (splattered black/white/red, 180g); Ltd Colored 1LP Gatefold (red transparent, 180g); Ltd Colored 1LP Gatefold (white, 180g.) “The Gang’s All Here” is an oath of triumph, exploding with powerful energy that makes us hunger for more. It is the logical next-generation leap of the band’s trademark sound that stomps out new ground — with singer Erik Grönwall (formerly of H.E.A.T, one of the best frontmen of this or any hard rock era) joining the family. Produced by Grammy winner Nick Raskulinecz, a world-renowned producer (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Evanescence) and longtime fan, Skid Row are ablaze. They are re-energized, kicking their sound way up to modern hard rock royalty.

WARHOL After all this time, the fascination with the late Andy Warhol remains as fervent as ever. Netflix is currently running a multi episodes re creation of the book “The Andy Warhol Diaries”, which will probably cause it to fly back up the best sellers chart. Being a long time Andy fan, I was surprised to find out so much about him and the scene he created that I had not been exposed to before. Most of the key players were interviewed, a real who’s who (RT fave Jayne County , who starred in the Warhol’ play “Pork” in her ‘Wayne” days, was included but identified as “Crew Member”; guess no one was hip enough to know her name.) The early days of Warhol ruling the roost at the legendary NYC nightclub ‘Max’s Kansas City” was sadly not included, as “The Diaries...” was written well past that golden period, but Andy will be name dropped in the documentary film “Nightclubbing: The Birth Of Punk In NYC”, produced by scene maker/historian Danny Garcia, internationally known for “The Rise And Fall Of The Clash”, as well as brilliant film studies of Johnny Thunders and Stiv Bators. Every indication seems to show that this will be the definitive last word tracing the initial seeds of punk being dropped (at Max’s) by The Velvet Underground and The New York Dolls; we’re told the film will be in the hippest theaters this summer...looking forward to it. The aforementioned Danny Garcia is a great punk musician/performer himself, and he’s unleashed a great new album (featuring guest stars from the 70’s NYC rock scene) with his band The Street Walkin MoFos; it’s the best of the genre that I’ve heard in a long time, and can be heard on YouTube and purchased on CD and download via Apple Music.

RAMMSTEIN NEW ALBUM ‘ZEIT’ Rammstein’s new album Zeit will be released on April 29, 2022. Exactly three years after their untitled multi-platinum album, one of the most globally successful German bands of all time is releasing a follow-up! The first single released by Rammstein on March 10th, the title track “Zeit”, a powerful ballad that builds to a towering epic. Rumors have been buzzing around, now it’s official: Rammstein’s new album Zeit will be released on April 29, 2022. The eighth album from the Berlin musicians follows the untitled number one album that shot the band straight to the top of 14 international charts in 2019, after the longest break between albums of their career to date. Till Lindemann (vocals), Paul Landers (guitar), Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar), Flake (keyboards), Oliver Riedel (bass) and Christoph Schneider (drums) spent two years working on the eleven songs on the new album. They were once again assisted by Berlin producer Olsen Involtini. Zeit was recorded at La Fabrique Studios in St. Rémy de Provence, France. DEEP PURPLE RELEASE “7 AND 7 IS” This previously unreleased version of “7 And 7 Is” was recorded by Deep Purple in November 2021, during their promotional and press tour in Germany, for their latest album Turning to Crime. It was during this same trip that the band filmed the music video for its version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well.” So, eager to play, the band had its live rig pulled together and set up in a large warehouse, with cameras only being allowed in for this rendition of the track “7 And 7 Is.” In truth, nobody really knows what the band played in the hours during which they were in that room, as no access was given to anybody other than their trusted sound engineer. However, this recording is a testimony of this first auspicious meeting and marks the moment where, after almost two years, the band played live again in the same room. Get Turning to Crime, the first studio album by Deep Purple comprised entirely of songs not written by the band and previously recorded by other artists.

All 13 tracks on Cardi B’s 3x Platinum selling debut album Invasion of Privacy are now certified at least Platinum, and the smash 2018 album also includes the history-making Diamond (10x Platinum) “Bodak Yellow.” This feat further extends Cardi’s streak. SOFT CELL TEAM UP WITH PET SHOP BOYS Having closed 2021 with a critically acclaimed sold-out UK tour, Soft Cell shared the new single ‘Purple Zone’, a new collaboration with Pet Shop Boys. The song will be included on their fifth studio album Happiness Not Included which is scheduled to be released on May 6th. Pet Shop Boys attended one of the tour’s London shows, and immediately picked out ‘Purple Zone’ as one of their favorites from the evening. The two legends of electropop initially planned for Pet Shop Boys to remix the song, but their collaboration quickly mutated into a full collaboration. Not only is their collaboration a brand-new single release, but this version has also been added to the Happiness Not Included track list. “Purple Zone” is now a dream duet for synth-pop connoisseurs as Marc Almond’s ultra-expressive delivery intertwines with Neil Tennant’s wistful yearning, encapsulating the existential questions about the passing of time that are posed throughout the course of the album. Raising its tempo.
