Big Umbrella Festival Returns to Lincoln Center Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts welcomes audiences with autism and other developmental disabilities and their families to Big Umbrella Outdoors. The weekend of programming beginning September 17 is part of Restart Stages, the new outdoor performing arts center constructed on the Lincoln Center campus to champion the city’s cultural and economic revival. This year, Big Umbrella Outdoors kicks off with a special event at 6pm on Friday night welcoming teens and young adults for an evening of art, dance and music activities. The evening begins with an offering from neurodiverse theatre company E.P.I.C. Players in a performance that explores the autistic experience through authentically conceived and portrayed stories and concludes with an inclusive Silent Disco featuring Music: Not Impossible, wearable technology which translates sound onto the skin through vibration, allowing users to feel the music. The Silent Disco offers the unique experience for audience members to control sensory elements, by adjusting volume on personal devices and being within socially distanced circles. Children and their families are invited to experience the festival on Saturday and Sunday in a two-hour ticketed window that begins at 11am or 2:30pm, each including the same offerings. Each visit begins and ends with a live performance, with time between for attendees to choose and explore additional interactive installations: Squonk’s Big Hands for a Big Umbrella immersive experience; a sonic soundscape from Swingset Drumkit, the sensory sculpture OrchidsPlayscape, as well as music and dance performances featuring artists with disabilities.

David Byrne’s American Utopia David Byrne’s American Utopia will return to Broadway this fall at the St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). As previously announced, performances will begin Friday, September 17, 2021. The highly acclaimed production features David Byrne with returning band members Jacquelene Acevedo, Gustavo Di Dalva, Daniel Freedman, Chris Giarmo, Tim Keiper, Tendayi Kuumba, Karl Mansfield, Mauro Refosco, Stéphane San Juan, Angie Swan and Bobby Wooten III. Tickets are on sale now at www.americanutopiabroadway.com. All ticketholders with valid prior bookings have been emailed with their performance information. Ticketholders may contact their point of booking with any questions or requests. David Byrne said, “It is with great pleasure that finally, after a year+ like no other, I can announce that our show is coming back to Broadway. You who kept the faith, who held on to your tickets, well, you knew this would happen eventually! September 17 – remount previews begin. We’re moving to the St. James Theatre – just down 44th Street from the Hudson, where we were before. The stage is a little wider and the capacity is a little bigger – I guess we did alright! Seriously, New York is back, and given all we’ve witnessed, felt and experienced, it is obvious to me that no one wants to go back to a world with EVERYTHING the way it was – we have an opportunity for a new world here. See you there.”

ELECTRIC AVE PROFILES Bobby Fallas Scores Big When Bobby Fallas used to go to the circus as a little boy, there is no doubt that his favorite performers were the jugglers. Watching them skillfully juggle a dozen or more balls must have been quite a sight. Today, Bobby is a juggler of a different kind, running multiple businesses across Long Island, each unique in its own way. Bobby loves the challenge of a new project. He started in the business world in the days of the Roosevelt Flea Market, buying odd lots of clothing and re-selling them there. He graduated to buying by the truckload and opened a big store in Bayshore. He also opened an office in china, no easy task to guarantee him a supply of merchandise to sell. Today, Bobby has several businesses that are highly successful. Continuing his love of “stuff”, he has a huge warehouse in Plainview that has overstocks piled from floor to ceiling, with barely room to walk. Overstocks are merchandise that name companies, like a drug

store, sell when they have too much merchandise or are bringing in a new line. Bobby buys these by the truckload and then has auctions at the Plainview location through his Take It By The Pallet auction site. His next auction is in September. Being a music lover, Bobby took a big step by opening a big video studio inside the warehouse where his company, YourShow.Live streams big name concerts and events, as well as tribute bands. Recently, his Dee Snider live stream was a huge success. Bobby met his partner Charlie in a most unusual way. They met at a Daytona 500 tailgate and starting talking. Charlie is a computer whiz, he specializes in websites and e-commerce. They became partners in streaming and Charlie came up with a proprietary platform for streaming that makes their shows reasonably priced. Along with a sound stage at the warehouse, they also built several very expensive VIP lounges. In addition to their own shows, they rent out their services for concerts, shows and corporate events. Streaming is here to stay. To occupy his spare time, Bobby owns more than 60 trademarks. His next big venture is Sexy Wings Sports Bar. To stay ahead of the curve, he will be introducing Three Cube Vodka and is dabbling in NFTs, perhaps as a limited drink token. You too can own a very rare beverage exclusively.

ANDY WARHOL: A LIFE IN POP AT NASSAU MUSEUM OF ART A vibrant and important exhibition that includes his signature icons from his earliest paintings to his innovations in silkscreen printing, is on view at the Nassau County Art Museum. The collection features the most famous images in Pop art, from the Campbell’s soup can and Marilyn Monroe, pioneering works made in the 1960s, to the late, great Vesuvius series, made just two years before his death in February 1987. This landmark museum show gathers masterworks from his early experimentations with the silkscreen process through the peak of his fame. Warhol’s appeal is uniquely universal. He is as popular with the public as he is with scholars (who elevate him to the status of philosopher through his “transfigurations of the commonplace”). He seized the powerful tools of media and advertising right then in his own moment and, with an artistic alchemy that never fails to astonish, he returned the Campbell’s soup can to the supermarket aisle with the new aura of an artistic masterpiece. Publicity shots of celebrities, including Muhammad Ali and Albert Einstein, radiate the colorful energy of icons. As wildly popular as he is worldwide, there was always something

essentially American about the achievement of this native of Pittsburgh, making the round trip between low and high, or between the remote and the ordinary (Space Fruit is a fantastic example of how he managed this in one work). Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive in Roslyn Harbor. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (62 and above) and $5 for students and children (4 to12). Docent-led tours of the exhibition are offered at 2 p.m. each day; tours of the mansion are offered each Saturday at 1 p.m.

The art, which goes on view online September 1 and can be viewed live starting September 7 at the Museum’s Manes Center, is drawn from the Museum’s own collection as well as donations from some of the internationally renowned contemporary artists who have shown at the Museum during its 30-year history. Buyers can register online beginning September 1 at http://ncma.betterworld.org/auctions/nassaucounty-museum-art-benefit. The bidding will close at 7:30 pm on September 17.

Bountiful Gourmet...The Cooperage Inn Sometimes the best places to dine are the ones you find totally by accident. This was the case with Calverton’s Cooperage Inn. Returning from a pleasant afternoon at Pindar Vineyards, we came across this pretty restaurant on Sound Ave. that just screamed “great food.” We were not disappointed. Our dinner at the Cooperage was one of the stellar meals of the past year. From appetizers to dessert, everything was a winner. We started off with the seafood bisque, a rich, creamy offering that was filled with seafood. Every spoonful was a taste of gold. We moved on to the Cooperage House Salad, a great mixture of refreshing greens, diced apples and mandarin oranges, creamy house dressing, toasted almonds and raisins. It was a super bargain for the smaller version, only $5 extra with your meal. Viewing the walls filled with articles about the Cooperage, it was easy to determine that the Chicken Pot Pie was the star. It indeed lived up to its billing, filled with luscious pulled white and dark meat chicken, carrots, celery, corn, peas, potatoes in a sherry cream sauce, baked in a casserole with a high hat puff pastry crust. Our chicken pot pie expert

deemed it the best she ever had. There’s also a Braised Short Rib Pot Pie version that sounds exotic. I had the 24oz. Marinated Char-Grilled Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, a masterpiece, perfectly cooked and flavored. The meat was nearly fork tender, cooked exactly as ordered, and the crispy marinade was succulent. It was sad when the meal was over. I wanted more, to come back the next day and every day after that. It came in a delicious horseradish crème sauce, with

roasted garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed market vegetables. Everything was as fresh as could be, likely the day’s product of neighboring farms. We passed on the dessert of the day, a towering peach ice cream treasure, only because we had other plans for dessert. The Cooperage Inn is a beautiful place that feels like old New England. And we have to mention our waitress Bella. This F.I.T. student was wonderful, joking with the customers and making suggestions. Although slender, she would have you believe that she had tried every item on the menu, so thoroughly knowledgeable was she. And she spoke with such enthusiasm that it was hard to say no to her suggestions. The entire waitstaff was excellent, quickly clearing the table when necessary, re-filling water glasses constantly. And even though this was a Saturday night, never rushed us. The Cooperage Inn is located at 2218 Sound Avenue, Calverton. It can be reached in 55 minutes from North Shore Nassau. Reservations are strongly recommended at 631-727-8994. I’m heading back there for my birthday this month. Wouldn’t want to miss that peach tower you know.

SPORTS BEAT

All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the Jacksonvillebased grappling promotion, is the biggest competition the WWE has had in over 20 years. Its Wednesday night “Dynamite” show on TNT draws solid ratings. The AEW has also developed a nice cast of characters in its first two years as opposed to relying on former WWE stalwarts like Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy. An indisputable indicator of the rapid growth of AEW is their willingness to hold a “Dynamite” event at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows which can hold 25,000 spectators on September 22. WWE officials were so concerned about this upstart competitor that they rushed a card to be held at Madison Square Garden two weeks earlier. The AEW Queens card is a homecoming

for arguably its biggest star, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who grew up in Plainview and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School there. I spoke with Friedman, who prefers to go by his initials, MJF. At age 25, he has the athleticism and charisma which remind many of a young Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. As was the case with Johnson’s “Rock” character, MJF’s is a braggadocio who can get the crowd riled up but he’s not evil, a point he emphasized in our conversation. He admitted he wouldn’t mind following Johnson’s career path into the entertainment world. He is a student of wrestling history and expressed admiration for Ted DiBiase’s “Million Dollar Man” character from the WWE’s late ‘80s/early ‘90s golden era. DiBiase’s character loved to flaunt his wealth to the “little people.” MJF is more subtle but always wears Burberry products into the ring. Shockingly, he has not gotten an endorsement deal from the British clothier. Friedman stepped out of character when discussing anti-Semitism. “I’ve been greeted with swastikas when I am in the ring, and I’ve gotten my share of slurs from wrestlers and yahoos in the audience.” Surprisingly,

he says he had to deal with this issue when he was the captain of the Plainview-Kennedy High football team. “There weren’t a lot of Jewish football players in Nassau County when I was in high school,” he said matterof-factly. 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the Tom Cruise film, “Jerry Maguire,” which looked at the life of a fictional sports agent. The scuttlebutt over the years has been that the Maguire character was based on Leigh Steinberg who always seemed to represent the best quarterbacks in the NFL Draft back then. His nemesis in the film, Bob Sugar (played by comedian Jay Mohr), was a thinly disguised Drew Rosenhaus. After staying out of the public eye for a few years, Steinberg is reestablishing himself in the sports agency game which has grown more complicated and lucrative with college athletes now being able to garner endorsements and keep their scholarship eligibility. I asked him why so many NFL players have refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. “No other class of employee was tested as often as NFL players were for COVID last

They may feel they have done their part,” he said. “If someone said you don’t have to get a swab shoved up your nostrils every day if you get an injection, my kneejerk reaction would be “Where do I sign up?” I countered.Steinberg concurred and admitted he’s a bit mystified and emphasized his belief everyone should get vaccinated. most helpful to study. “Psychology,” he immediately replied. “You have to be a good listener in this business.” He also added that having good knowledge of contract law, accounting and taxation are also very worthwhile. On July 19th, YouTube made baseball

Gardner and Heidi Watney anchored the pre and postgame shows. All were superb. My only knock was they tried a bit too hard to show how knowledgeable and prepared they were. Baseball can drag at times and having some lighthearted fun, such as the way SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen bashes the popular version of chili served in Cincinnati every time the Mets play the Reds in the Queen City, is a welcomed relief. In fairness, these female broadcasters had

not worked with each other in a game so I can understand why they wanted to be all business. Yes, “Space Jam: A New Adventure” could easily have trimmed a good 20 minutes from its nearly two-hour running time, and the copious amount of cluttered computerized animation graphics are headache inducing. The positives however outweigh the negatives. LeBron James is a good actor and has an amiable screen presence. Warner Media clearly had fun approving the film as it works in a lot of the conglomerate’s assets in the world of animation (the entire Looney Tunes cast of characters from Bugs Bunny to Speedy Gonzalez are here), films (“The Matrix” and “Casablanca” get saluted) as well as its sports arm (there is a clever joke about cable network TNT and dynamite. Ernie Johnson, a signature NBA studio host for TNT is a riot trying to keep a straight face calling a bizarre life or death basketball game involving LeBron and his animated teammates.) “Space Jam; A New Adventure” also nicely spoofs e-sports, video games, and the concept of corporate synergy. Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle is a hoot playing appropriately named high tech villain, Al G. Rhythm.

THIS IS MY COLUMN

by Rich Branciforte

What I Did On My Summer Vacation Wow, this was one busy Summer. After being exiled for so long, we went bonkers in the last month, checking out many fine events.

Liverpool Shuffle Live Stream The month started with the Beatles tribute live stream from Liverpool Shuffle. Beamed from Elite Studios in West Babylon, it was a free concert put on by the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce. Several hundred viewers saw the Liverpool Shuffle run through a fine set that included “Twist & Shout,” “All My Loving,” “A Hard Day’s Night.” “Revolution,” “Ticket To Ride,” and dozens of other classics. The Liverpool Shuffle consists of Joe Refano, vocals and guitars, Andrew Lubman, a sweet sounding vocalist who plays bass, Jamie Bateman, vocals and guitars, and Mike Naimoli on drums, who did an excellent job subbing for Brian James with 48 hours notice. The show was streamed by yourshow.live, and if you missed it, you can watch it free in their archives.

Mets vs. Washington Nationals, Citifield What a joke this was. The game was put on rain delay after one inning, moving into the

second inning. It probably was a mercy killing since the Mets’ pitcher gave up 3 runs to the first four batters. The entire situation was handled very poorly by the Mets’ staff. We all waited for 2 1/2 hours in a pouring rain. Finally, it stopped raining entirely and for twenty minutes, it looked like the game was going to proceed. Instead, for some reason unknown to fans, the game was postponed ‘til the next day, as part of a one admission doubleheader. Makes no sense, but if you had tickets for the postponed game, you could not use them the next day. During the 2½ hours, the Mets made no attempt to communicate to the fans what was happening, which they could have done via the scoreboard. Attempts to reach someone at the Mets the next day was ridiculous...the phone number on their website was not a working number, and their email contact address kept bouncing back with an error message. When the smoke cleared, it appeared you had to drive all the way to Citifield if you wanted to exchange your ticket. 1984 at Pindar Vineyards 1984, a Classic Rock band with a large repertoire played a vibrant set at Pindar Vineyards in Peconic. Pindar is a perfect place for live music. The band sets up in a tent overlooking the fields, and it’s a pleasant blast of relaxation with comfortable chairs and picnic tables. Fronted by the vivacious Diana Romano, whose voice was only outshone by her shoes, the band ran through a fun -filled set of classics, including Gimme Some Lovin’, Hush, Dream On (one of the highlights of the set), What A Feeling/Fame, a Beatles Medley and much more. The band was tight, led by Jimmy “Landlord” Turrisi on lead guitar, Tommy Stiso on Bass, Paul Buchwald on drums, Paul Martinez on keyboards, and Ryan Nolin on vocals, who did a very competent job in his first appearance with the band.

The crowd was super enthusiastic, dancing throughout the set, and some audience members somehow managed to dance to every song and still live to tell about it. This is a great party band, and should give more vocal chores to Diana with numbers that rock, showing off her range. They’ll be back at Pindar later this month on September 25th.

Colin Hay At City Winery If you haven’t been to the new City Winery, located on Pier 53 on the Hudson River, you’re really missing something. With exquisite views, City Winery has spared no expense to make it a mecca for musicians. We recently caught Colin Hay there, and he was outstanding. He ran through a fine repertoire of songs that included Who Can It Be Now? and Down Under from his Men At Work days, plus hits from all over, including a great take on the Kinks’ Waterloo Sunset. He also shone on Wichita Lineman and I Don’t Know What To Do With Myself. Colin is a gifted storyteller, and he brings you into each song with a little story, explaining how the song came to be, or what he was thinking when he recorded it. His band was a virtual United Nations with two guitarists from Cuba, a female sax/ flute/keyboard player from Guatemala, plus Cecelia Noel from California who sparkled with her dance routines. Colin could probably live off the royalties from “Down Under” from the Little Nemo movie, but he clearly enjoys what he is doing and it is obvious to everyone there that there’s a reason why he’s still going strong.

Chris Milo At Anthony’s On The Lake We had to check Chris out to see what all the hype was about, and it is well deserved. We caught a recent show of his at Anthony’s On The Lake In Ronkonkoma, opening for Randy Jackson, and it was a fun night. Anthony’s is a pretty place, opposite Lake Ronkonkoma. The outdoor area is well suited for music. Chris didn’t disappoint. He opened with Otis Redding’s Sitting On The Dock of The Bay, and provided a deep, rich vocal that didn’t seem like it could come from a seventeen year old. From there he moved into a German folk song, certainly not your usual choice for a youngster. He uses a Live On Loop Pedal that plays back his instrumentation and then he sings over it. Well done! He sang a soulful version of his original, Poisoned Love, and then did a great version of My Sweet Lord that everyone loved. He closed out with Dion’s Runaround Sue, another sure fire hit. Chris shows unique awareness of different music genres, and he’s plenty of fun live. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Stevie G.B. who did a comedy routine after Chris’ set. Aside from him busting my balls at the beginning of the show (Dad Indeed! We were in the same classes at reform school,) he did a pretty funny shtick that the audience loved, with some nice zingers.

WHEELS & DEALS Cataldi and Muro’s partnership goes back to their teen years in Queens, New York. Here, in the heart of blue-collar New York City, they formed a lifetime friendship and creative bond over a steady diet of Mad Magazine, Sun Ra, Henry Miller, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and the original spoken word recordings of the 50s and 60s from Caedmon Records.

Vapor Vespers Return It’s a sonic funhouse that draws upon everything from Fripp & Eno ambient and Krautrock to Miles Davis acid-funk-jazz and baroque classicalism. These varied sounds are conjured as soundtracks to spoken word ruminations that are part Eric Bogosian hyper-monologue, Bukowski poetry slam and, occasionally, politically incorrect Rudy Ray Moore party record bawdy. This is the world of Vapor Vespers, the edge–and button-pushing transcontinental collaboration between acclaimed NYC & Hudson Valley-based multi-instrumentalist Sal Cataldi (aka Spaghetti Eastern Music) and Alaskan playwright, actor and slam poet Mark Muro.

Typhoid Rosie Unveils “All I Need” The new song, “All I Need”, is another fine example of the empowering and thoughtprovoking bangers that Typhoid Rosie spe-

cializes in. The aural equivalent of a candycoated razor blade, the track is a wee bit less “punk” and a tad more “pop” than the other two previously released singles (“Queen Of Swords” and “Defend Your Temple”) while still sounding very much like Typhoid Rosie. With a strong hook/chorus and a provocative story behind it, the single also features guest vocalist Coolie Ranx (Pilfers, ex-The Toasters, Grand Theft Auto, etc.) who sings the second verse and pre-chorus duet with frontwoman Rosie Rebel, while also contributing gang vocals. Gnarly Karma Releases “Rags to Riches” Known for their infectious melodies and incredible live performances, Huntington based buzz band Gnarly Karma has just released their latest single, “Rags to Riches” to Spotify and all the major music services. Co-written by Singer/Guitarist Michael

ELECTRIC AVE PROFILES: Chris Milo Climbs The Charts Quick, name a recording artist from Long Island that had their song at the #2 spot on the New Music Weekly Hot 100 chart recently. Unless you guessed Chris Milo, a 17 year old singer / songwriter from Long Island, you would have guessed wrong. Don't let his age fool you...he has performed across New York City and Long Island. Chris is doing the right things, he's performed at more than 20 local clubs and restaurants, building a strong following along the way. Not surprising, the youngster has built up quite a female following with his good looks, no doubt attributable to his Cuban/Puerto Rican and Italian background. Chris's love for music started at an early age, drawing influences from early soul/R&B artists such as Otis Redding, Nina Simone, JoeBonamassaaswellasthepop/rock of Ritchie Valens, Del Shannon, Bobby Darin

and Simon and Garfunkel. Newer influences include Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. In addition to singing, Chris is also an

accomplished dancer, having appeared at numerous international Latin ballroom competitions. He also has performed in films and theater. Chris' debut original single, Poisoned Love, along with a Spanish version were both recorded at Richie Cannata's Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove. There's plenty of great talent on Long Island, and Chris Milo is living proof. But, don't think of him as an “overnight success.” He's been performing for years since he was very young. We recently caught a live show of his and Chris really comes across as someone much older. The richness of his vocals displays his vocal talents well. He is someone to look out for when he's in your area. Learn more about him at www.chrismiloofficial.com

WHEELS & DEALS Renert and Drummer Jarrod Beyer and recorded in California with Steve Pagano and Mario Borgatta (who have worked with many talented national acts over the years), “Rags to Riches” is the third song to be dropped from those fantastic studio sessions - after the rollicking “Brave” and the fan sing along favorite “Follow Me” Recently featured on News 12 and 94.3 The Shark, GNARLY KARMA is an Alternative/Indie Rock Band from Long Island, New York. The group consists of five members; Mikey “Manicotti” Renert (Vocals, Guitar), Jarrod “J-Rock” Beyer (Drums), Ryan “McMagic” McAdam (Bass), Billy “Bad Bones” Hanley (Saxophone) and Adam “Sklarface” Sklar (Guitar).

han, is ready to dive back into his normally busy schedule of tours and music releases. Handing us a sonic map, he is guiding us out of the past year into a changed world which vaguely resembles the one we knew before. Along with his upbringing on a West Virginia alpaca farm and touring the country in his converted minivan, Sheehan’s latest record ‘Hello from the End of the World’ was released on August 27th via his own Half Moon Records. Now, after spending so much time at home, Trae is ready to get back to work. Planning a fall tour that includes Europe and the UK, he’s set to hit the ground running as soon as it’s safe to do so. He’ll be appearing at the Parkside Lounge in NYC September 9th.

JMS’ Frank Vespe Scores With Music Video Long Island artist Frank Vespe has hit solid gold with his new music video. He charmed TV actress, Lisa Cole, from Los Angeles, to star in his video and got lucky for her to agree to be in his song’s music video, MAYBE TONIGHT. names (Jimmy-Mark-Shawn), kinda like ABBA or CSNY. Mark Newman and Shawn Murray are mostly studio musicians, although Jimmy Treutlein plays in many bar bands on Long Island. Frank has known Jimmy for more than twenty years, when he worked as the primary cable TV installer contractor for Time Warner Cable TV where he worked in the 90s and they struck up a friendship. They met again on a line at the King Kullen in Levittown years later, and reconnected, and Frank kept him in mind for one of his songs some day. The video was put together at heavyweight Fred Guarino’s Tiki Studios in Glen Cove, which is featured in the video.

WOMEN WHO ROCK

TATIANA HAZEL RELEASES NEW EP Tatiana Hazel released her new EP And The World Will Turn. The project is handcrafted by Hazel herself, the artist writing, producing, recording, mixing and mastering the entire project except for “Work Hard,” which she collaborated with her close friend Drew via a discord session. The result is a kaleidoscopic pop soundscape that feels as intimate as it does grande. The project follows the DIY popstar’s 2020 EP Duality and includes her previouslyreleased singles, “It’s All Right,” “Tired of Being Myself” and the newly released “I DON’T GIVE A FUCK!,” a moody pop track built on vintage synth sounds and Tatiana’s powerful hooks that comes alongside a selfdirected video with an analogue aesthetic that perfectly matches the track. And The World Will Turn has been in the works since February when Hazel relocated to Hollywood with her manager. She created a whole new world, self-directing and editing all her videos, as well as shooting all the artwork with the help of her manager. “I wanted to show that you don’t need a big budget or team to bring your visions to life. There may be a lot of uncertainty in the world, but take control of what you can and leave the rest up to the universe. All I know is that the world will keep on turning.”

L’FREAQ MUSIC VIDEO LA-based dark-synth pop artist, L’FREAQ, shares a music video for her latest single “Gimmick,” the debut single from her new release and sophomore EP, Showgirl, out on Position Music. The first visual from the upcoming release is absolutely stacked with metaphor, all-star fashion, witchy vibes and an important message about the

role media plays with children—especially young women. From puppet to powerhouse, L’FREAQ breaks free of the monotony and shreds through the brainwashed stereotypes, as she literally shreds on a guitar. Armed with a full book of poetry, L’FREAQ took pieces of her work and composed songs with Mike Irish, who also produced and mixed the EP at Shifted Recording Studios. The EP was mastered by Stuart Hawkes at Metropolis London Music. They took their time in discovering a sound that felt genuine, one that explored all the raw places she had been longing to find. Together, they created a modern amalgamation of L’FREAQ’s dark, thoughtful poetry and her raw musical instincts, which inevitably alchemized into songs that are all at once aggressive, sensual and moving. MARTA GABRIEL METAL QUEENS Marta Gabriel is known as a front woman of heavy metal power force CRYSTAL VIPER who just released a brand new studio album, “The Cult” on Listenable Records. She’s also a seasoned session musician, and either was a guest on albums, or appeared on stage with the following acts: VADER, MANILLA ROAD, JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR, MAJESTY and WITCH CROSS. Technically, “Metal Queens” is her first solo album, although it’s a very unusual release. ‘Metal Queens’ is also a celebration and tribute to female singers and female fronted heavy metal acts of the ‘80s. The original Metal Queens! SAMANTHA FISH TURNS UP VOLUME Samantha Fish has announced her new album Faster, set for release on September 10, 2021. The album is the follow-up to 2019’s acclaimed Kill or Be Kind, and marks Fish’s first collaboration with producer Martin Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, Sting), who cowrote eight of the album’s 12 new songs and helped the genre-defying guitarist, singer, and songwriter to refine her sound and strike out into bold new sonic territory. Alongside the announcement, Fish unveiled the video for “Twisted Ambition,” the first single from the album. Fish notes, “It’s

about flipping the power structure, the power dynamic, in your life. The world or a personal figure might be putting you down; it’s about taking control and owning your life and owning the situation.” The delightfully anarchic and cathartic video sees Fish smashing things up - literally and metaphorically -as she asserts, “see me take your crown, don’t need you,” and declares, “twisted ambition, I’m in control.”

Anette Olzon

ANETTE OLZON SOLO ALBUM “STRONG” Current The Dark Element (and exNightwish) vocalist Anette Olzon is set to release her new solo album, “Strong” via Frontiers Music Srl on September 10, 2021. Today, fans can get their first listen to new music with the release of the single and video for the track ‘Parasite’. Watch the video at https://youtu.be/eEbQWMOPBO0 ‘Parasite’ is a song about those who create disaster in this world with their lies, their schemes, their greed and hate. Hiding their intentions behind a respectable facade,” says Anette Olzon of the albums’ first single. “Living in a world of a bit of chaos with a pandemic, musically, I wanted a much heavier album, yet with strong melodies and took my inspiration from bands I like such as Dimmu Borgir and In Flames,” she continues. This will be Anette’s second solo album, following 2014’s “Shine,” and offers a harder, faster musical offering compared to the debut. More importantly, “Strong” stakes a claim for Anette’s well-deserved standing as one of the world’s top female metal vocalists. The music for “Strong” was written and composed together with acclaimed Swedish guitarist and producer Magnus Karlsson.

RHYTHM TRACKING

With Jimi LaLumia

JAMES DEAN New York icon David Loehr has written an amazing new book, “That’s How Strong My Love Is; From Rock-nRoll to James Dean”. I had the pleasure to first meet David during the glam 70’s in NYC where he ran with the Bowie/ Warhol/MainMan crowd; we had a mutual friend in scenester Cherry Vanilla, and David always seemed to be in the thick of it all, the electrifying downtown world that really turned pop culture on it’s head. Years later I became aware of his fascination and dedication to James Dean, resulting in David’s creation of a James Dean gallery. Reading David’s book felt like a parallel time machine for me, sharing the 1960’s pop culture, and then becoming part of the 1970’s incarnation of that cuture. If any or all of this sounds like your ‘cup of tea’, I suggest you get a copy of David’s recounting of his incredible journey; it is, to say the least, very rock-n-roll. BIZ MARKIE Just as the world of hip hop dealt with the death of DMX, a Long Island legend, Biz Markie, also passed away. During hip hop’s rapid rise decades ago via MTV, Biz was front and center with his still catchy, still current sounding pop crossover hit, “Just A Friend”, and he went on to deliver one hot track after another; unlike some of the genre which did not age well, Markie’s tunes and style still sound relevant and ‘cool’ decades after they were first released. Markie’s passing was observed in Patchogue, his home town, as a “hip hop who’s who” showed up to pay their final respects, including LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and Fat Joe, to name just a few. Markie was dubbed ‘the clown prince of rap’ back in the day, thanks to his humourous approach to lyrics and delivery, but everyone regarded him as a serious player in the game. RIP. DA BABY Hip Hop star Da Baby is in hot water after making homophobic comments and spouting hate crime comments on stage; that has been a main stay of hip hop since the beginning. It was unacceptable then, and it’s totally unacceptable now. Being part of the population that has been on the receiving end of hate because of who you are does not give you a free pass to spread hate on another part of the population because of who they are; no one gets to choose the color of their skin or their sexual orientation, and it’s not the 1950’s anymore, so this type of behavior will not be supported; radio stations are dropping air play of Da Baby, and bookings from the big summer festivals have all dropped him from the bill.

Jimi LaLumia Publicity/PR I made “Death To Disco”/Psychotic Frogs an international sensation, and work with worldwide icon Jayne County. I am available for consult on publicity/media angles for bands, actors, politics, and more. Facebook/lalumi-dia public relations

Originally featured on their Mind Bomb album in 1989, THE THE’s classic The Beat(en) Generation” now shines in a new light as Matt Johnson and band performed the song to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall nearly 30 years later.

Don McLean, known for his mega-hit “American Pie,” which he wrote and performed, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6314 Hollywood Boulevard. “This is a very special day for me, awards are given every year on those television programs, and every year a new person is named a favorite, however, this award is forever,” says McLean. “This is an honor I get to share with friends, fans, and whoever walks down Hollywood Boulevard.” Joining in the festivities were Don’s longtime friend “Weird Al” Yankovic, who is a fellow Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient. Yankovic released a parody “The Saga Begins,” that was set to the tune of “American Pie,” which recounted the plot of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, from Obi-Wan Kenobi’s point of view.
