40 YEARS AGO, Long Island lost one of our neighbors who, Newsday called, “one of the most important Long Islanders of the 20th Century”. Through his music, stories, live performances and social activism, HARRY CHAPIN was credited with influencing the song, “We Are the World.” Some have stated that Harry Chapin also inspired USA for Africa and Live Aid. We also know that he founded two organizations, WHY Hunger and Long Island Cares, Inc., along with the 1977 Presidential Commission on Hunger under former President Jimmy Carter. On July 16, 1981 while thousands of his fans gathered in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow for one of his many free concerts to raise awareness of hunger, Harry Chapin died in an automobile accident on the Long Island Expressway. Forty years later, Harry Chapin’s legacy continues through the work of our organization. For forty years, Harry’s fans continue to contribute to our work in many ways. His words about ending hunger still resonate with our staff, volunteers, donors and fellow musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Dee Snyder and Darryl ‘Run DMC’ McDaniels who have all supported Long Island Cares, Inc.-The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank. Although we will never know just how successful Harry would have been if he were still alive, we do know that he would be very proud IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW NEEDS ASSISTANCE, of the work that Long Island Cares continues to do to support our neighbors PLEASE CALL US AT 631.582.FOOD (3663) in need and to carry on his legacy.

Bountiful Gourmet...Park Side Restaurant Confession time...I grew up in Queens, went to Queens College, and have been to the Lemon Ice King of Corona maybe a thousand times. Until June, I had never dined at the Parkside Restaurant, a temple of fine dining only one block away. Since then I have been there three times, each experience better than the previous one. For a truly fine Italian food dining experience, this is the place. Situated in what was once the Little Italy section of Corona, Queens, Park Side offers old world charm and great food at reasonable prices. It is a spacious place, well decorated, and emits a real Italian vibe, like you were in Italy. The starter is a bowl of breads, soft, home made, melt in your mouth can I have some more please type of breads. As an appetizer, you must have the fried calamari, cooked to perfection, or the whole baked clams oreganata style. Hot antipasto of shrimps, clams, stuffed mushrooms and stuffed zucchini is also a real treat. From the grill we strongly recommend the Broiled Boneless Prime Steak, with their demi glaze sauce. Like butter, as they say,

three home runs in three visits. With it comes fried sliced zucchini. Another great option is the Broiled Colorado Lamb Photo by Sandy Branciforte Chops. 2 double cut chops with mint jelly. As a side, we had a delicious pasta, with plenty of meat and spices...enough to be a separate meal in itself. As a main dish you might want to try their excellent Fettuccini Carbonara with panetta, parmagiana cheese, cream, onions, eggs and white wine or a stellar Rigatoni Matriciana with tomatoes, onions, pancetta and fresh basil. Seafood options that standout are a

scungilli and calamari combination, Shrimp Fra Diavola, or The Seafood Combination Park Side style. This is an 8 oz lobster tail, shrimp, clams and mussels on a bed of linguini. Veal dishes that are outstanding include their Veal Parmigiana, Veal Chop Milanese, or the Veal Chop Allegria, which is veal sauteed with white wine, brandy, roasted peppers, capers and herbs. Service at Park Side is outstanding. Water glasses are constantly refiled, every request is quickly taken care of by a professional wait staff. And if you have a special request, just ask your host, Alfredo, who seems to know every customer personally and will translate your request into an exquisite meal. If you have room for dessert, the Chocolate Mousse Cheese Cake is exquisite, as is the carrot cake, and black forest cake. Take it from me, I’ve tried them all. Park Side Restaurant is located at 107-01 Corona Ave, right off 108th Street. They have on site valet parking.Call the restaurant directly for reservations which are highly suggested. They can be reached at 718-271-9274. Do it today, you’ll thank me.

SPORTS BEAT Thanks to COVID-19 vaccines the outlook for the rest of 2021 is a lot brighter than it was a year ago. A pair of books recall how bleak the world of sports was just one summer ago.

Bryan Hoch is the longtime Yankees beat writer for MLB.com who has written a number of books on the team he covers so well. His latest tome is the cleverly titled The Bronx Zoom (Triumph Books), which provides an insider’s look at how the most successful franchise in sports history was affected by the pandemic. Hoch makes the reader feel as if he was a fly on the wall in the Yankees clubhouse as he details how Yankees director of security, Mark Kafalis, made it clear to the players

they had better follow health protocols regardless of their political beliefs. We learn how Yankees GM Brian Cashman delivered meals to his players who were trapped in Tampa when the pandemic caused massive shutdowns in March 2020 while Yankees centerfielder Brett Gardner kept the team loose with practical jokes and playing pingpong during the weird 60-game season. On a more serious note low-key slugger Giancarlo Stanton became a team leader in speaking up for Black Lives Matter right after the George Floyd murder. Ben Golliver is the Washington Post’s NBA writer and his Bubbleball (Abrams Press) looks at how the league was able against all odds to salvage its 2019-2020 season by having its entire playoff series at Disney World in Orlando. Golliver details the anguish Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert experienced by becoming the first professional athlete to test positive for COVID-19 but foolishly mocked this deadly illness in a press conference. His cavalier attitude may have caused teammate, NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell to catch the virus. He also discusses how the Milwaukee Bucks’ unilateral decision to not play a scheduled game after Jacob Blake was killed by a police officer in the Milwaukee suburb of Kenosha nearly upended the entire bubble playoff experiment. The Mets marked their fifth Pride Night last month with a t-shirt giveaway sponsored by Citi as well as honoring both the LGBT

Network and the Callen-Lorde Health Centers which have long provided medical services to the LGBTQ community regardless of ability to pay. Dominic Smith

First baseman-outfielder Dominic Smith, who is one of baseball’s most socially aware players, told me he was thrilled the Mets were hosting Pride Night and was aware this event would have been unheard of not so long ago. He was wearing a “Love Is Love” t-shirt which was manufactured for Mets players by the team’s charitable arm, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, and he pointed out how teammates Taijuan Walker, Marcus Stroman, and Edwin Diaz were also wearing

FORTY-YEARS LATER WE’RE STILL TALKING ABOUT HARRY CHAPIN During his brief life (1943-1981), Harry Chapin released more than a dozen albums, performed 220 concerts a year with half of them being performed as benefits for local charities, made more than 15 appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, composed the iconic, Grammy Award winning song, Cat’s in the Cradle, and founded two nonprofit organizations WHY Hunger and Long Island Cares to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity. In 1980, when Harry Chapin founded Long Island Cares, Inc. he had two goals; 1) Raise enough funding and support to provide emergency food assistance to an estimated 50,000 Long Islanders considered to be impacted by food insecurity, and 2) Focus on the root causes of hunger and food insecurity in order to lift people out of the cycle of poverty. As we commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Chapin’s untimely passing in an automobile accident on the Long Island Expressway on July 16th, Long Island Cares is taking a closer look and developing a network-wide response to the root causes of hunger that today impacts

8 • Good Times Magazine - August 2021

nearly 480,000 Long Islanders including 79,370 children. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Long Island was on the verge of reducing food insecurity by 40%, however, during the height of the pandemic an additional 223,000 Long Islanders joined the ranks of the food insecure population as a result of job losses which increased the population from 259,000. What Harry Chapin knew forty-years ago is still true today. That poverty, unemployment, immigration status, disabilities, underemployment, homelessness, Veterans’ status,

and systemic racism impact a person’s ability to provide nutritious food to feed their family. Chapin believed that only by addressing these root causes could we have a chance at ending hunger, and he engaged elected officials, corporate leaders, and his many fans in his crusade which, Long Island Cares has been leading for four decades. Chapin was a key figure in former President Jimmy Carter’s convening of a Presidential Commission on Hunger in 1978. Chapin advocated for sound social policies and increased government funding to address the root causes of hunger. Today, Congress is once again discussing increased funding for hunger assistance and Congressman James McGovern of Massachusetts is proposing that President Joe Biden convene a White House Conference on Hunger to address the root causes that Chapin described four decades ago. Asked about what inspired him to become a lead voice in Congress on hunger and food insecurity, McGovern talks about meeting Harry Chapin in 1978. It’s rewarding to know that forty-years later, we’re still talking about Harry Chapin.

With Lloyd Carroll them during batting practice. Smith conceded most Mets players, however, eschewed publicly wearing the “Love Is Love” apparel. Mets SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen, like most baseball fans, is not a fan of umpires making pitchers having to show their gloves, caps, and belts to them in order to see if they may be using foreign substances to doctor baseballs. “It’s baseball’s version of ‘stop and frisk’,” he said to his analyst, Ron Darling when MLB first ordered umpires to check on pitchers. Seconds later, the cameras showed former NYC mayor, Michael Bloomberg, taking in the game at Citi Field in the first row behind home plate. He was not identified by name. The only blemish during the Islanders’ playoff run was how some fans threw beer cans on the ice following their 3-2 win over the Lightning in Game 6 which may have been their farewell to the Nassau Coliseum. The media may have played an inadvertent role in encouraging these knuckleheads by constantly referring to the Nassau Coliseum as “the old barn.” While it may have been a term of affection, some idiots may have seen it as a license to act recklessly. After all, why behave in a “dump” which they

probably won’t see again? Contrary to popular belief, the Nassau Coliseum is not being torn down, at least in the near future anyway. It will still be home to Long Island Nets of the NBA’s G-League as well as the New York Riptide of the National Lacrosse League. There is also a good chance the Islanders will play some games to start the 2021-2022 season there if the UBS Arena isn’t ready to open. It’s safe to say building inspectors will be checking every inch of the Isles’ new Belmont Park home considering the Surfside, Florida condominium collapse tragedy.

Bull riding makes a return to the greater New York area in September when the PBR’s “Unleash the Beast” event takes place at Newark’s Prudential Center the weekend of September 18 and 19. August is a great time to catch a minor league baseball game. The Long Island Ducks, who are managed by former Mets infielder Wally Backman, are still in Central Islip although their home field has a new name, Fairfield Properties Ballpark. The Lakewood Blueclaws are now calling themselves the Jersey Shore Blue Claws but they are still the high-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. This year marks the Blueclaws’ 20th anniversary. The Buffalo Bisons are the Toronto Blue Jays’ AAA team but they have been booted from their western New York home to make room for their parent club who are not allowed to have games in Canada because of COVID-19. The Bisons are making their home in Trenton this summer. SNY and the New York Racing Association have stuck a deal to televise races on the Mets cable home.

Will Van Dyke Debuts LP Sometimes the smallest action can alter an entire existence. That certainly has been the case in the creative life of singer/songwriter WILL VAN DYKE. An established musician in the theatrical world of New York City, VAN DYKE was looking for collaborators when an email from lyricist and playwright Jeff Talbott appeared in his inbox. Like Elton John finding Bernie Taupin at the right moment, these two paths crossing would launch a strong and lasting songwriting partnership that culminates in the release of VAN DYKE’s debut solo EP, THE MAYOR. Billed as a collection of songs that combine personal stories with folklore-like fables, THE MAYOR accentuates the creative chemistry that

VAN DYKE and Talbott have been building for the past eight years. Both men are perpetual optimists who seek to find the best in everyone, and understand that kindness is the best possible answer to almost every problem. This concept is on brilliant display in the title track of THE MAYOR, which tells the story of a group of friends and what it means to have a found family. This closing track on the EP is an infectious call to arms to not just appreciate the family you’re making, but celebrate it every single day. Local Students Make Beautiful Music An inspiring story about two 15 year old musicians: both 10th grade local high school students, Sam Sherman, a Jewish boy from Long Island and Chloe Robinson, a black girl from Queens are an unlikely pairing who create amazing new music which seamlessly blends soul and pop. Sam and Chloe have known each other since they were 8. Always the youngest members in the bands at their local long island music school, they were pushed aside til they discovered each other and started playing shows on their own at venues throughout NYC, Queens and LI. Sam, the composer

and keyboardist and accomplished vocalist Chloe just released 2 new original songs on all streaming platforms. Their sound belies their age with Sam’s sophisticated songwriting fronted by Chloe’s deep, smooth and soaring voice. The first song on the double single is entitled “Healing Rain”. It is about what they were feeling in March in NY in 2020 as Covid descended on us all. Both songs were produced entirely in Sam’s basement in collaboration with his dad. Drunken Frankenstein Horror Rock Band Drunken Frankenstein is the brainchild of New York cult horror movie filmmaker Jim Haggerty (WITCHMASTER GENERAL, WHEN DEATH CALLS). They’re a horrorobsessed punk rock band who play songs about monsters and classic horror movies.Their five-track debut EP, Phantom Creeps is a driving collection of rockin’ tunes sure to delight fans of The Misfits, Alice Cooper, KISS, The Ramones or Motorhead! Begun as a one-off project to create a punk rock theme song for Haggerty’s next horror movie, the musicians Haggerty assembled clicked so well musically and personally that one song turned into two, two turned into four, four turned into five and the

WHEELS & DEALS band was born. Haggerty and bassist Robert Jackson, guitar virtuoso Jeorge Althaus and powerhouse drummer Bobby James have a grinding, cohesive groove that make them sound like they’ve been together a lot longer than they have. “At heart, we’re really just a bunch of guys who grew up watching scary movies,” Haggerty shrugs. “We’re the guys who were staying up watching the late night horror movies and that fandom kinda binds us together. And lyrically, I think it’s fun to write about. While everyone else is writing love songs or so-called meaningful songs, we’re doing songs about our favorite scary movies and creatures. It does set us apart!” And the band is extremely happy with how the Steve Johnson-produced EP sounds. The thunderous drums, the groove of the bass, the metallic guitar leads, and the multifaceted vocals are hard to resist on Drunken Frankenstein’s debut. Jeff Lake and Cellophane Flowers Singer/songwriter Jeff Lake teams up with Grammy-nominated violinist Susan Aquila and company, to form “Cellophane Flowers” – a neo-classical spin on the music of the Fab Four. Annie Keating Latest Album Brooklyn-based artist Annie Keating has released her latest album Bristol County Tides, a 15 song tour de force - an epic pandemic story of awakening and inspiration - shows this veteran artist at the peak of her powers. Her eighth full-length album is her most accomplished, inspired, and ambitious to date. A pandemic album of transformation that feels both universal and deeply personal, Bristol County Tides tells an evocative story about finding inspiration and human connection in uncertain times. The album cover offers a painting of the road the artist and her family retreated to during the beginning of the pandemic (in Bristol County, Massachusetts). Produced by Teddy Kumpel, the inspiration for all songs was born there, amidst the rising and falling tides in an idyllic farm to coast New England town. She writes and sings like a woman who knows deep down that heartache is the price of hope, and she can make us believe—in that way that only the best artists can—that all of it is worth the cost. She’s shared the bill with the likes of John Hiatt and Bon Iver, toured internationally many times in a dozen countries.

Day Trippin’ In Saratoga Springs

by Rich Branciforte

Saratoga Springs is an often overlooked gem for a day trip weekend, overshadowed by its neighbor, Lake George, slightly to the North. It is a step back in time, to a period of gentility, when Vanderbilts and Astors “took the waters” and enjoyed the racing season. We arrived in town lunchtime, hungry and tired from the drive. We headed to Dizzy’s Chicken, 102 Congress St. There we feasted on their Dizzy Chicken, roasted chicken, roasted red pepper, basil pesto and provolone, only $11.95. Also delicious was their smoked meatloaf, with arugula, sun dried tomato spread, Swiss cheese and mayo. Our favorite though was the outstanding Smoked Brisket Panini, with house smoked beef brisket, caramelized onions, aged cheddar and horseradish cream. Satiated, we headed to downtown Broadway, which is about 7 blocks long and boasts and outstanding selections of architectural gems. The buildings are exquisite and the selection of shops is great...very few chain stores, mostly unique clothing, craft and interesting shops that are perfect to browse. They have bookstores, vintage vinyl shops, and of course, stores dedicated to their hometown heroes, horses. Our hotel, the Inn at Saratoga Springs was a wonderful period piece, although there are dozens of chain hotels like Hilton in town. Beware, this is THE season. Horse racing is a preoccupation in Saratoga, and hotel prices soar. The Adelphi is the grande dame of Saratoga hotels, but night there in August will run about $400. The Gideon Putnam is beautiful, contains a spa, and located inside the beautiful Saratoga Spa State Park. Saturday night we dined at Druthers Brewing Company, a cavernous microbrewery that was packed. The food was excellent, the service good, and the vibe great. We were seated between two big parties, one a bachlorette party and the other celebrating a grandmother’s birthday. Excellent chicken sandwiches and hamburgers. Beer very good and nice selections. No trip to Saratoga Springs would be complete without a trip to the National Museum of Racing, 191 Union Ave. This was a well thought out, comfortable museum with all kinds

of displays, trophies, films statues and much more, highlighting horse racings history. You can go into a booth, call a famous race (we did Secretariat winning the Triple Crown), and then email it to yourself to watch later. That night was the highlight of our trip, dinner at the Olde Bryan Inn, 123 Maple. Beautiful colonial building, well decorated. Food was outstanding.

with it framed. It’s service like this that keeps local, independent businesses thriving. Olde Bryan opens at 4pm and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Reservations strongly suggested. Lots of fun was a visit to Saratoga Spa State Park, a sprawling complex of mineral springs, a gigantic swimming pool and beautiful hiking

The onion soup was among the best we ever had. Highlight was this gigantic Prime Rib, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Be advised, it is only served Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they often run out. The hostess, Barbara is fantastic as she co-ordinates her servers and constantly checks on her customers. Our server, Danna was great and it’s fascinating to watch the servers as they race through the kitchen doors to pick up their orders. No slackers here. Barbara learned it was our Anniversary so we were treated to a complimentary ice cream sundae. She also took a picture of us at the table and moments later returned

trails. It also has a geyser that is fun to watch, it may not be Old Faithful, but is fun. And bring your own jugs, the mineral waters, that soothed aches for centuries, is free to bottle. You wouldn’t want to drink though, highly sulphuric but perfect for bathing. Also fun to visit was the beautiful Congress Oark, right on Broadway in the middle of town. It is filled with statues, monuments, beautiful gardens, and the history museum is on the grounds. All free to roam and enjoy. A great find for us was Comptons Restaurant, 457 Broadway. Tucked in between all the trendy shops is this vintage gem, which has been serving locals for 60 years. Unbelievable low prices and great food. The chocolate

chip pancakes were huge and world class, the omelettes fluffy and delicious, but the highlight was the old fashioned milk shakes. The chocolate was rich and thick, you had to eat it with a spoon. Another fun meal was had at the Adelphi Hotel for lunch. Yes, it can be pricy for dinner, but lunch is a true bargain. It has a limited menu. You can eat inside, but we strongly recommend you sit outside on Broadway. It is truly a window on the world as visitors scurry past, but you sit in a sea of tranquility. Very good was the burgers, reasonably priced, the salads and the personal pizzas. Reservations an absolute must or expect an hour plus wait. Our journey ended as it should, at a surprise find. The Farmer’s Daughter Drive In, 882 Route 29. This is a mere 10 minute drive from downtown but is one of those places that you find and keep talking about. On the surface, it is an ice cream drive in with 30 flavors that serves food. In reality, it has some of the best comfort food around. We met Annette, the owner, a former Brighton Beach girl who oversees her operation like a loving mother. She insisted we try just about everything. We happily complied. The Philly Cheesesteak was outstanding, filled with shaved beef, fried onions, peppers and cheese. It would give Pat’s and Geno’s a run for their money. And, unbelievably only $7.95. Scrumptious fried chicken. Burgers and hot dogs were all very tasty, but the best was saved for last. Their ice cream is homemade, and rich. A large cone is only $4.75 and gigantic. We pigged out however and each had a pint of ice cream, which they gladly mixed flavors for a whopping $4 a pint. This is the kind of roadside experience that makes traveling by car still acceptable, after all the traffic jams and delays. And, there’s plenty of indoor seating as well as take out. August is a great time to be in Saratoga Springs. The racing season is in full swing and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center has just re-opened where you can see acts like Dead & Co. September after Labor Day is a perfect time to go also, prices become more reasonable, and there is a huge state park close by for hiking, walking, whatever suits you. Saratoga Springs is only 4 hours from Long Island, right up the Thruway.

RHYTHM TRACKING

With Jimi LaLumia

BRITNEY As the pandemic restrictions begin to fall away and the entertainment business comes back into bloom, so too does the never ending saga of Britney Spears, whose battle over ownership of her life has become a high target subject matter for the media. Control over her career, as well as all aspects of her life, is still the source of a legal battle between Britney and her father, who apparently can dictate everything from the color of her kitchen cabinets to whether or not she can become pregnant and bear children. This sort of story has always been a source of interest to a consuming public who grew up on gossip, and it seems to never get old, although Britney certainly has; she has expressed interest in retiring, but if she does a ‘farewell’ tour, you can expect it to be one of the biggest money makers in many years. TOYAH Long time Rhythm Tracking fave, Toyah, is back with a vengeance; a UK pop idol since the early 80’s, Toyah never made the journey to America, content to be a brand name in England and Europe: I actually got two of her music videos, “Rebel Run” and “Thunder In The Mountains” into light rotation on the then brand new MTV in 82/83-ish, I talked Roberta Kruger into adding then even though Toyah never set foot on U.S. soil, and the records were only available as imports. Decades later, thanks to YouTube and a pandemic, the “Sunday” videos from Toyah and her (King Crimson) husband Robert Fripp, have made her a known entity in the USA. While her classic albums have been getting the re-issue treatment from the Cherry Red label in the UK,a new Demon Music album, “Posh Pop” and a new single “Levitate” are now in release, and they deliver a great burst of positive energy to a world that needs said energy.Out of all the 80’s females she was compared to in a negative light back then,Toyah is the one who is still rocking and ready. SOUL I love documentary films about popular music, so I was happy to see that “Summer of Soul” was playing in my local multiplex. The film documents the Harlem Music Festival of 1969, a summer long event that had the biggest names appear each week; the same summer as the Woodstock Festival, this was also filmed and documented but never saw the light of day until QuestLove found and restored the sights and sounds in a brilliant display of talent; amazingly, that Woodstock summer, I never heard, saw or read about this summer long event which included Nina Simone, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Mongo Santamaria, The Fifth Dimension, The Staple Singers, David Ruffin, Sly & The Family Stone and so many more. It is available to enjoy on Hulu if you can’t find it in a theater, and hopefully this will see the light of day on a DVD release as well, although there’s probably mountains of legal clearances to obtain first; regardless it’s an absolute must.

Jimi LaLumia Publicity/PR I made “Death To Disco”/Psychotic Frogs an international sensation, and work with worldwide icon Jayne County. I am available for consult on publicity/media angles for bands, actors, politics, and more. Facebook/lalumi-dia public relations

CLASSIC ROCK Yes New Studio Album YES, who are Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood, will release their new studio album THE QUEST on InsideOutMusic/ Sony Music on October 1. Containing 11 songs, 8 on the main CD with 3 extra tracks on a bonus CD, THE QUEST will also be available on Vinyl and 5.1 Blu-ray and CD deluxe editions, all on the day of release. “It is simply an honour for me to have the opportunity to bring together the band members in the development of a well-refined set of songs that capture the band’s true potential,” said Steve Howe, who produced the album. He added, “Much of the music was written in late 2019 with the rest in 2020. We commissioned several orchestrations to augment and enhance the overall sound of these fresh new recordings, hoping that our emphasis on melody, coupled with some expansive instrumental solo breaks, keeps up the momentum for our listeners.” Additional percussion was provided by guest Jay Schellen who supplements YES’ live performances. Bryan Ferry Solo Albums Back On Vinyl In 1973, while Roxy Music - one of the most unique, influential, and important bands of their generation - were still riding the cusp of a wave, frontman Bryan Ferry launched an audacious solo career that went on to cement him as one of the greatest and unique performers and songwriters the U.K. has ever produced. His first six solo albums, These Foolish Things (1973), Another Time, Another Place (1974), Let’s Stick Together (1976), In Your Mind (1977), The Bride Stripped Bare (1978) and Boys and Girls (1985) have been remastered from original tapes at Abbey Road Studios and cut by Frank Arkwright. All six releases are pressed on 180g black vinyl and feature enhanced versions of the original artwork overseen by Bryan Ferry. All records will be available on pre-order from https://bryanferry.lnk. to/LPreissuesPR. Ten Years After Releasing “Naturally Live” Ten Years After are best known for their Platinum selling album “A Space in Time” which featured the Top 40 hit “I’d Love to Change the World”, and their prodigious performance appearance at the Woodstock Festival in upstate New York, August 1969. Their rendition of “I’m Going Home” was featured in both the subsequent film and soundtrack album and catapulted them to star status. Original members Ric Lee and Chick Churchill have continued this legacy and are now rounded out by Guitarist/Vocalist Marcus Bonfanti and Bass Icon Colin Hodgkinson. “Naturally Live” was recorded in Germany March 2018 and contains live recordings such as: ”Land Of The Vandals”, “Silverspoon Lady” & “Last Night Of The Bottle” taken from their phenomenally successful studio album A Sting In The Tale. These tracks are combined with old favorites such as “I’d Love To Change The World”, “Hear Me Calling”, “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and, of course, the Woodstock killer track “I’m Going Home”. This Deluxe Edition due out August 13th also contains “I Say Yeah” which was previously only available on the vinyl edition and the previously unreleased rendition of “32-20 Blues” performed by bassist Colin Hodgkinson.

Stiff Little Fingers Live At Rockpalast The longest-tenured Irish punk band is undoubtedly Stiff Little Fingers – who have been bashing and thrashing since 1977. And the double-disc set, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 – released on June 25, 2021 – shows that the band remained a vital live band (and also, stayed true to their roots) throughout the ‘80s, despite a five-year hiatus smack dab in the middle of the decade. Singer/guitarist Jake Burns has been the band’s leader since their inception – with bassist Ali McMordie standing right alongside Jake most of the time – which saw Stiff Little Fingers being a part of the first-wave of Euro punk bands, which included the lofty likes of the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Jam, etc. And in the process, Stiff Little Fingers issued such classic punk LP’s as Inflammable Material, Nobody’s Heroes, and Go for It, plus the punk anthems “Alternative Ulster,” “Suspect Device,” and “At the Edge.” Comprised of a total of three discs, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 will certainly satisfy both your audio and visual needs – the first two discs are audio-only, featuring the 1980 and 1989 performances, while the third disc is a DVD of the group’s classic 1980 appearance on Germany’s long-running music show. Rock & Roll Hall Scores Tom Petty Artifacts The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has installed Inductee Tom Petty’s electric guitar and outfit worn during his Super Bowl XLII Halftime performance with the Heartbreakers in 2008 in its “Biggest Show on Turf: 55 Years of Halftime Shows” exhibit.

On a large guitar-shaped stage, Petty played “American Girl” from the Heartbreakers’ self-titled debut album followed by “I Won’t Back Down” and Petty’s top commercial single, “Free Fallin’.” The incredible show closed with “Runnin’ Down a Dream.” On display is Petty’s 1964 Rickenbacker (Rose Morris model 1997) used during the hard-hitting performance. He acquired this rare Rickenbacker guitar in 2007 after searching for many years for a pristine example. It was one of his most prized possessions. Complementing the guitar is Petty’s performance outfit, a yellow shirt and polka dot neck scarf with a dark suit. In an age where rock-god wardrobes were a given and before couture pop-stars there was Petty. He epitomized a look that was as cool as his vibe and as simple as his powerful song writing. His go-to looks included poet blouses under polkadotted vests, velvet blazers over tees, and snakeskin boots. The Rock Hall is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended summer hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in July and August. Purchase tickets now at rockhall.com.

Bon Scott’s 75th Birthday Iconic AC/DC singer Ronald Belford “Bon” Scott would have turned 75 years old on July 9th 2021. To mark this occasion, Bon’s family is launching the first ever official Bon Scott website which will serve as a destination for fans keen to discover more about the legendary singer, including tributes from renowned rockers. Fans will also be able to leave testimonials about seeing or meeting Bon and purchase newly-available official merchandise. Few rock singers were as unforgettable – and have proved as enduring – as Bon Scott. As the frontman of AC/DC from 1974 until his tragic passing in 1980 (at the age of 33), his “rock n’ roll pirate persona,” street poet lyrics, and striking image (one of the first rockers to proudly sport multiple tattoos) have made him an absolute legend. Additionally, Bon’s vocals were featured in several pre-AC/DC bands, including Fraternity, the Valentines, and the Spektors. For more information, visit: https://bonscottofficial.com/
