The hot Long Island-based band LDF (also known as Ladies Drink Free) will headline as a concert attraction. For more information and tickets. LICraftClassic.com, or find the event at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

international craft breweries. If you're not into beer, don't fear: Attendees can also enjoy an expanded selection of wine and hard cider at this year's event. The Long Island Craft Classic may actually be one of the best summer food-oriented events to take place this year as well, with selections including a barbecue sandwich or a giant turkey leg with each paid admission. Selections from Patchogue's famed BBQ restaurant Bobbique will be available. Other attractions include the “Brew'd” competition, where local breweries will battle for fans' votes to see which come up with the best special peach beer. Each competitor must use the secret ingredient and brew a beer (style of their choice) for an on-site attendee fan-favorite vote. Taking part will be Blue Point Brewing Company, BrickHouse Brewery, Greenpoint Harbor Brewing Company, Lithology Brewing Company, Long

Ireland Brewing, Moustache Brewing Co., Port Jeff Brewing Company, and Spider Bite Beer Company. Cool beers, hot music: The funky LDF has been making a name for itself throughout the region. Also known as Ladies Drink Free, the group has now adopted “LDF.” Their sound is a blend of funk, R&B/soul, pop rock, and modern jazz. The group has already performed at many of the top venues in the area, including Webster Hall, The Great South Bay Music Festival, The Knitting Factory, and The Montauk Music Festival, sharing the bill with jam favorites Turkuaz, Consider The Source, and The Main Squeeze. Of course, the big attraction will be the beers, and here's just a few of the popular breweries taking part, in addition to those above: Sam Adams, Barrage Brewing Company, Saint James Brewery, Long Island Beer & Malt Enthusiasts, Knee Deep Brewing Company, Jamesport Farm Brewery, and more than we can list here; log on to LICraftClassic.com for the list of participants.

THE BOUNTIFUL GOURMET Delivering Pizza News – Both The Long & The Short Of It

Photos courtesy respective organizations and companies

It’s Long Gone: Hakki Akdeniz, owner of Champion Pizzeria of New York City and Tony Gemignani, of Tony's Pizza Napoletana of Los Angeles joined together with more than 70 shop owners to unveil the world’s longest pizza pie. The 1.3 mile-long pizza will was unveiled to racing fans at a ceremony held at The Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. After the pizza was done, it was given to local homeless shelters in the Los Angeles Area. Akdeniz flew to California from New York to design this unique pizza. He was formerly homeless before he went into the pizzeria business. The Guinness Book of World's Records has verified its status. “Pizza making is a labor of love and one that will pay thousands of dividends for humanity,” said Akdeniz, who arrived in the U.S. as a political refugee in 2000, carrying just a few hundred dollars in his pocket before finally landing a job in a pizzeria. “It’s all about giving back to your fellow pizza-

loving man, and giving them some pizza mind.” He said it, we didn’t. The Short Haul: Pizza Hut announced today that the company, along with its franchise partners, plans to hire nearly 3,000 new drivers a month through the end of the year. The intensive hiring effort will bring in approximately 14,000 new drivers across the Pizza Hut system. The new delivery driver hires will include full and part-time

FILM Watching While Waiting

The summer blockbusters, amazingly, seem to have already come and gone – and not everything went according to the big studios' plans. There were unexpected hits with films such as Dunkirk and Girls Trip; the expected mammoth tallies were scored for Wonder Woman, Despicable Me 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2; and a few counted-on titles pretty much flopped (Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets, The Mummy, and especially Baywatch, a rare Dwayne Johnson misfire). We also won't get the new Thor film and the debut of The Justice League and the other likely big box office hits until the weather gets a bit cooler. So, for right now, what is there to look forward to, other than the air conditioning at the mallplex? Here's a few films that seem, at the very least, interesting, and they'll be floating around for at least the next few weeks: The Glass Castle (Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts; directed by Destin Daniel Cretton; August 11, Lionsgate): Book fans are eagerly awaiting this adaptation of Jeannette Walls' memoir about a daughter (Larson) coming to grips with an off-kilter father (Harrelson) and forging an entirely new life of her own. Those in the know are using the word “Oscar” to describe the performances of Larson and Harrelson; time will tell.

positions and are based on the needs of the individual restaurant and market. In addition to increasing its delivery driver fleet, Pizza Hut has developed a proprietary delivery network algorithm that will significantly change its pizza delivery business. The new delivery network algorithm is a multi-faceted technology system that drastically improves the accuracy and reliability of Pizza Hut deliveries. The system is capable of predicting how long a delivery will take and will account for variable factors such as weather, construction, traffic and other irregularities in the delivery pattern to enable safe, accurate deliveries. “We have a belief that ‘no nne OutPizzas the Hut,’ and for us

that’s so much more than a tagline. It’s a promise that we are making to our customers,” said Artie Starrs, president, Pizza Hut U.S. “We have been in the service business for almost 60 years, and our commitment to providing the best, most reliable delivery service and overall experience is as strong now as it ever has been. It has to be, because the customer expects that from us.” The new delivery driver technology will be available in all

Ingrid Goes West (Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen; directed by Matt Spicer; August 11, Neon): Plaza, up to this point, has been up to her skivvies in sexy girl roles, but this time, she's been given some comedic (and dramatic) opportunity in this tale of a pretty much unhinged social media stalker whose new obsession (Olsen) prompts her relocate to California. This is about as dark as a humor film gets, but we're betting that this will be the film that makes Plaza a legitimate movie star. Some critics who have seen this are calling it the most thoughtful

Calendar Tuesday, August 8

Westampton Beach PAC (Of Crazies): Each summer, The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center offers an array of nationally touring standup comics in its The Mollie Parnis Auditorium all season long – and this year is no exception. We hear that fans are still laughing from the appearance of “A-lister” Craig Ferguson last night – but recently booked was another, shall we say, headline-making headliner: As a finalist on the NBC TV comedy competition series “Last Comic Standing,” Gary Gulman (the new date is Saturday, August 12) has made a lasting impression within the comedic world. Being one of only a handful of comedians to perform on virtually every late night comedy program, he’s a pro at leaving his audiences in stitches every chance he can, whether it’s on the live stage or during his comedy specials featured on Showtime, Comedy Central, and Netflix. Joining Ferguson and Gulman during this year's Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center comedy series are Mike Birbiglia on Friday, September 1, and the outrageous (and utterly uncensored) Jim Jefferies on Saturday, October 28 in a show that's being noted as for mature audiences only (no one under 21 admitted). Get the scoop at whbpac.org, or call (631) 288-1500. Kindling Up Comedy: Comedy Dynamics' fifth season of its original standup series, “Coming To The Stage,” hosted by Andy Kindler, has revved up on all the network's platforms, including Roku. This season's up-and-coming comedians will feature Mike Birbiglia Scout Durwood, Ify Nwadiwe, Tess Barker, Chinedu Unaka, Ross Everett, Kiran Deol, Richard Villa, Ever Mainard, Armando Anto, Dave Waite, Jamar Malachi Neighbors and Moses Storm. Mr. Microphone, a 7-foot-2-inch microphone, will also return, as will special guest George Wallace. “Coming To The Stage” gives comics on the verge of fame the chance to come to the stage to perform standup in front of a live audience with exposure on almost all digital platforms. "I wanted young comedians to know that anyone can make it in this business, and not to get discouraged by focusing on my career specifically," said Kindler. "I'm so glad to have Andy back to host season five, and I can only guess at what shenanigans Mr. Microphone will be up to this time," said Brian Volk-Weiss, CEO of The Nacelle Company, which produces the series. Comedy Dynamics, a Nacelle company, is one of the largest independent comedy Andy Kindler production and distribution companies, producing Kevin Hart's “Guide to Black History” for History, Animal Planet's”Animal Nation With Anthony Anderson,” the new scripted comedy on Seeso, “There's … Johnny!”, History's “Join Or Die With Craig Ferguson,” MTV2's “Wild 'N On Tour,” and Hulu's “Coming To The Stage.” The company has worked with a wide range of established and emerging comedic talent: Hart, Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari, and more stars.

The Tom Frietchen Band Rockin’ The Country, Ruling The Stage

A Sad Demise: It is clear that high profile music deaths are becoming more commonplace, with suicide-related deaths rising. At one time it seemed unthinkable (although those of us who remember the triple-header of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison in the 1970s find it more of a deja vu happenstance). People shake their heads, muttering: "They had all that money” … “Not a care in the world” ... “It's not even really work”… “How could someone so lucky throw it all away” ... and all

Linkin Park

Who: The Tom Frietchen Band puts it own stamp on contemporary country music, and delivers a powerhouse, fresh sound with its sixpiece lineup. The group – Tom Frietchen (lead vocals and guitar), Steve Penfound (lead guitar and vocals), Georgia Kostyack (background vocals and acoustic guitar), Eugene Arthurs (bass and vocals), Bradley Ruff (drums, percussion, and vocals), and Arash Raj Ghahremani (fiddle and vocals) – will perform on August 10 at 6:30 pm at The Cutting Room in New York City. The Artists & Their Sound: From their official bio: “Tom Frietchen grew up in Strongsville, Ohio. At age 10, he learned to play guitar, and by 15 he was starting bands and writing his own songs. After high school, Tom and and rock band hit the Top 10 with a song on Z-Rock, a nationally syndicated radio station, and other stations as well. The band was featured in Billboard Magazine and toured cities across the nation. Tom eventually took a break to start a family and became Mr. Mom for a while. Having a wife and children now, his life changed. Country music's lyrics are rooted in life and truth and became a new avenue for Tom's musical talent. Tom's songwriting reflects life's realities and he receives inspiration from the people and situations close to him. Tom's musical influences include The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, George Jones, George Strait, just to name a few. While his style has evolved over the years, Tom's musical passion is with his guitar. Now, Tom is back on the music trail and has put together a powerful lineup of musical talent! Tom and the band released a CD in January, 2012, It's Been So Long. This compilation blends old school rock and country music.” To Learn More Or To Contact The Artists: Tomfrietchenband.com; find them all over social media: Facebook and Twitter, as well as on Spotify and YouTube The band’s album, Quarter Mile, is at iTunes and other retail outlets. 22 • Good Times Magazine - August 8 - 21, 2017

the other familiar clichés that we hear every time someone high profile dies a "show biz death." Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington was only 41 when he took his own life, reportedly by hanging, on July 20. How could such a thing happen, you hear everyone say; What is wrong with these people? Well, artists, at the end of the day, are still just people, no matter how famous or wealthy their art has made them – and true artists, by the very nature of being an artist, are not like everybody else. That doesn't mean that they are any better or any worse than anyone else, just that they are different; the need to be seen and heard in a public

forum comes with its own curses and punishments as well as the rewards. As Diana Ross once said about her days as a member of The Supremes: "The highs were much higher, but the lows were much lower." Once you willingly thrust yourself into the public eye, at whatever level or degree at which that happens, you are no longer truly a private person ever again, and most who play the game don't comprehend that part until it's done. So it is that 41-year-old Chester Bennington, a husband and a father of children, who was himself reportedly a victim of child abuse, was overwhelmed by the price tag that comes with becoming a “star,” and apparently felt the need to bring the show to an end. No one can or should judge; no one is really in a position to do so, and all those who strive to achieve the success that Bennington found, and never get ther, but enjoy the daily process of trying, should thank their lucky stars that they may never experience the dark days that tend to visit so many in the arts. There are much worse things in life than not becoming famous, trust me. Rest in peace, Chester Bennington.

Paul Jones and Jason Rebello. "From a very early age, I connected with the blues," said Morrison. "The thing about the blues is you don't dissect it – you just do it. I've never over-analysed what I do; I just do it. Music has to be about just doing it and that's the way the blues works – it's an attitude. I was lucky to have met people who were the real thing, people like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bo Diddley, Little Walter, and Mose Allison. A Rock-Solid New Remix

Canadian singer/songwriter Sara Diamond has premiered a new video for the SRNO remix of her single “Back To You” via Popdust. Adding an electronic backbeat to the original, the Amsterdam-based SRNO propels the R&B-grounded pop song about rekindling romance into a funk-based rhythmic direction. More from the Great White North: Montreal-based Americana singer/songwriter Melissa Plett will release her new studio album, Ghost Town, on September 1. The new effort was recorded in Nashville at Omnisound Studio with the help of musician/producer Pat Severs. The video for the album’s title track, “Ghost Town,” can be viewed at bucketlistmusicreviews.com. Plett's influences come from the down-south storytelling of Johnny Cash, the tell-all nature of Kitty Wells, and the tales of hardship from Etta James and Ray Charles. A truck driver’s daughter, Plett grew up in Manitoba, where, at the age of 13, she was involved in a vehicular accident that took the life of her cousin and almost cost her own life as well. Plett overcame life-threatening injuries to over half her body. With a second chance, Plett vowed never to take her existence for granted and at a very young age adopted a motto she has lived by ever since: “I’d rather die living than live not alive.” More: melissaplett.com.
