people in her profession ever have. From her publisher: “Theresa Captuo, funny, frank, and down to earth, began communicating with Spirit at the age of four, but she didn’t fully accept her gift until she was 33 years old. She had a good life as a busy wife and mom, but she also suffered from chronic anxiety that, as it turned out, came from ignoring her abilities. Once Theresa began channeling, she realized that she felt much better after delivering a message from Spirit and releasing that energy. Since then she’s used her extraordinary gift to help people heal from the loss of their loved ones. “Theresa feels that it’s her purpose to make us all aware that there is more to life than what we see here in the physical world and that your deceased loved ones are safe and at peace and assisting you from The Other Side. There’s More to Life Than This explains how Theresa’s mediumship works, what happens to your soul when you die, what Heaven is like, what the deceased want you to know, and the many roles that your family, friends, angels, guides, and God play here and in the afterlife. It also explores how to safely connect with Spirit, so that you can recognize when your loved ones are reaching out. Through Theresa’s personal story, compelling anecdotes, and fascinating client readings, she teaches us about Spirit and helps us to understand and appreciate the important lessons and touching messages that we’re meant to embrace every day.” Caputo was born and raised in Hicksville. Her family members – also favorites from their appearances on her TV show – are her husband, Larry, grown children Larry and Victoria, her brother, Michael, and her parents. Even her pets (dogs Petey and Louie) have earned their fair share of human fans.

The trio performs American songbook standards and modern tunes at The Flatiron Room every Friday night from 9 pm to 1 am through December 13 ... To purchase tickets, call Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200 or go to 59e59.org. Identical twins Peter and Will Anderson, with their jazz quintet, whisk audiences to the streets of Paris and the French countryside with rollicking swing and hot gypsy jazz. With a set list filled with top French and American jazz artists Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet, Josephine Baker, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie, who found a warm welcome in France's thriving jazz scene, the program is a look at the France's contribution to what is thought of as a quintessentially American art form … The beautiful jazz vocalist and bandleader Sarah Hayes has been tearing it up at such NYC venues as Grata Jazz … Musicians: One of upper Manhattan's best jazz jams takes place each Monday at 8 pm at Cleopatra's Needle, featuring The Jon Weiss trio … Released recently on the Savant Records label was Zocalo by Bill

It's amazing how well Sykes' music – he's considered one of the fathers of blues piano – holds up today … The changing world of blues music was highlighted in the annual Blues Blast music awards, which were held on October 31 at Buddy Guy's Blues Club in Chicago. Winners included Shaun Murphy, the former Little Feat singer whose album, Ask For The Moon, was named Album of the Year – as well as The Cash Box Kings, Albert Castiglia, Southern Hospitality, Curtis Salgado, Doug MacLeod, and Doug Deming … For those of you who think blues music sells for less, think again: Longtime Blues record collector and expert John Tefteller was the winning bidder at $37,100 for a rare 78 RPM record by blues legend Tommy Johnson. This marks the highest price ever paid for a single 78 rpm blues record, as well as one of the highest prices ever paid for any record. The record, Tommy Johnson on the Paramount label from 1930, is one of only two known and verified copies. All other copies of this disc are presumed lost or destroyed. The two songs on this record "Alcohol And Jake Blues" and "Ridin' Horse," are considered masterpieces of the genre; Johnson ranks among such other early blues legends as Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, and Skip James.

hey lived hard, died young (Billie Holiday at 44, Janis Joplin at 27 from a heroin overdose) after battling drug and alcohol addiction, and sang of heartache and relationships gone bad – they sang the blues. Now, these legends have been brought back to life, both offBroadway in “Lady Day,” and on Broadway in “A Night With Janis Joplin,” bio musicals that recreate the singers’ most famous numbers in semi-concert settings. Both shows are blessed with exceptionally talented performers – Dee Dee Bridgewater and Mary Bridget Davies, channeling Holiday and Joplin – but their faithful interpretations of the Holiday songbook and the Joplin canon are undermined by mediocre books that don’t serve them or their shows well. Bridgewater, a three-time Grammy winner (most recently in 2010 for her Billie Holiday tribute album) who also won a Tony for “The Wiz,” has been committed to this work since the mid-1980s when she starred in an earlier incarnation in London, and she has the vocal and acting chops to channel Holiday brilliantly. “Lady Day” is based on a concert Holiday gave in London in November 1954 at the end of a European tour. A run-in with the law resulted in the suspension of her cabaret license in the States, and Holiday had

More artists appearing at Boulton Center during this busy holiday period include an artist who perhaps can be described as the last great American troubador, Chris Smither, on December 6 ... Y Act Out Theater Performance Workshop presents The Nutcracker on December 8 ... The Cortland The Midtown and The Boulton Center present National Lampoon’s Christmas Vaction on the big screen on December 11 ... Eileen Ivers’ annual (and highly anticipated) holiday show at the Boulton returns on December 13; the next night brings Rockapella’s holiday concert. been in involuntary exile, performing throughout Europe. The first act opens with her four-man combo (led by musical director Bill Jolly) vamping and complaining about the jazz legend who is hours late for their rehearsal. When she arrives, offering far-fetched excuses, they run through thrilling renditions of such A Night With classics as “A Janis Joplin Foggy Day (in London Town),” “Miss Brown To You,” and “Strange Fruit.” While not sounding exactly like Holiday, Bridgewater captures her vocal stylings, timbre, and aching melancholy. Unfortunately, in between the marvelously performed songs, author/director Stephen Stahl saddles Bridgewater with clumsily written flashbacks as Holiday reminisces about her unhappy childhood and feelings of abandonment by her mother. And Bridgewater must reenact (in a child’s voice) Holiday’s horrific rape at the age of 10, as well as her initiation into heroin use. The second act recreates the actual concert as a progressively drunken Holiday – in a gorgeous white gown and furs – rambles on about her troubles and attacks the audience in between delivering smashing renditions of “God Bless The Child,” “Good Morning Heartache,” “Ain’t Nobody’s Business, and “I Can’t Get

Started.” David Ayers and Rafael Poueriet have thankless roles as Holiday’s patient manager and assistant stage manager. “A Night With Janis Joplin,” written and directed by Randy Johnson, delivers just what the title promises – another Baby Boomer tribute show – this time for diehard fans of the late psychedelic blues-rock icon. The inexhaustible Mary Bridget Davies, an explosive dynamo who has been touring the country with this show and starred in the earlier bio-musical “Love, Janis,” brings the house down channeling Joplin’s distinctive hoarse wail and emphatic body language. Too bad the concert is interrupted by sanitized (and drug-free) confessional ramblings about Joplin’s middle-class childhood and family life in Port Arthur, Texas, and her need to sing the blues to honor and emulate the singers who inspired her. To give the hard-driving Davies a respite, some of her inspirations – Bessie Smith (portrayed by Taprena Michelle Augustine), Etta James (Nikki Kimbrough), Aretha Franklin (Allison Blackwell), Nina Simone, and Odetta (De’Adre Aziza) – perform their signature songs. This gifted quartet also backs up Davies as The Joplinaires. In hippy bell-bottoms and psychedelic flowing tops (spoton costumes by Amy Clark), on a concert stage circa 1970, the wild-haired Davies gives fullthrottled performances of Joplin hits “Down On Me,” “Piece Of My Heart,” “Spirit In The Dark” (a rousing duet with Blackwell’s Aretha Franklin), “Cry Baby,” and “Me And Bobby McGee.” – Jane Klain

Wynton Marsalis

At Staller Center: A huge holiday presentation, “Big Band Holidays,” will feature The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra, jazz legend Wynton Marsalis, and Cecile McLorlin Salvant – all on the big stage at The Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University on Sunday, December 15 at 7 pm. Tickets and information: stallercenter.com. Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra present this “Big Band Holidays” concert with choice instrumental arrangements from such key swing era masters as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. Singing with the band is the 24-year-old 2010 Thelonious Monk Competition winner Cécile McLorin Salvant, whose ability to refract the styles of such iconic performers as Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday gives new meaning to Marsalis’ mantra: “All jazz is modern.” At Westhampton Beach Performing Arts

Center: A “slam poetry” event featuring New York City's Mayhem Poets takes over on December 10 and 11 at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. For tickets and performance times, log on to whbpac.org. Using hip-hop rhythms, dynamic theatrical techniques, and the sound of hip-hop violin, these young "spoken word" poets bring poetry alive and get students thinking in the programs suitable for grades six through 12. Mayhem Poets' performance poetry resonates with adolescents and teens through real-life, accessible, rap-like messages. The show fosters an appreciation for both classical and contemporary poetry while provoking thoughtful discussions and critical thinking on a wide variety of topics including diversity and acceptance. Mayhem Poets communicate to students important truths about "the power of words." Tickets are $10.

usician/songwriter Judith Owen and her husband, actor and humorist Harry Shearer, will send up the season with their annual “Holiday Sing-Along” tour with special guests Teddy Thompson, Alice Ripley, and others on Saturday, December 7 at 9 pm at The Brooklyn Academy of Music. Admission is free for this unique event. The duo will provide holiday music, mirth, and guest performances from their friends. With a circle of friends this expansive, anyone can show up; past guests have included Owen's close friend and collaborator Richard Thompson, Christopher Guest, “Weird” Al Yankovic, Jane Lynch, Keb' Mo', Loudon Wainwright III, and Fountains Of Wayne. Geared toward Christmas lovers and Scrooges alike, the "Holiday Sing-Along" grew out of the Christmas gatherings Owen and Shearer (“The Simpsons,” Spinal Tap, “Saturday Night Live”) hosted around their family piano, and the tour continues to reflect the same intimate, anything-goes spirit. The show is divided into two acts; the first features performances by Owen, Shearer, and their cast of guests, each of whom picks two holiday songs of their choice – selections range from sentimental ("Winter Wonderland," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas") to irreverent ("F&*k Christmas," "Jesus Was a Dreidel Spinner").

writes a new satirical song (last year's: "Why No Bail-Out for Santa?") and often performs the Spinal Tap classic "Christmas With The Devil." As guests finish their songs, they remain on the stage (which Owen decorates as a cozy, Christmas time living room), steadily building the festive mood. The second act is an audience sing-along of American classics, rounds, and carols, with Owen providing specially designed songbooks. For the crowd favorite "The Twelve Days Of Christmas," Owen divides the audience into 12 groups and awards kitschy holiday gifts to the best performers.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings Directed by Alan Taylor Walt Disney Pictures We thought it, too: Our first thought after looking at the fine actor playing Thor, Chris Hemsworth, was probably what a lot of people thought – at least if they were raised on the 1960s Thor cartoons: “Shouldn't he be a lot bigger – and where's the helmet?” Okay, old timers, put those worries to rest; after two pictures, it's safe to say that the Thor franchise of the entire Marvel universe of movies might be the best of them all, as they're certainly the best-acted. Our first questions with all these superhero films, from Thor to Green Lantern remain: Is it true to the original comic book? Despite the violence inherent in comics, does the film manage to not go over the line, and does it detail what’s right and wrong? Thankfully, this film is a resounding yes to those questions. Thor: The Dark World manages to be both a follow-up to not only the 2011 Thor film, but to last year's Marvel's The Avengers as well. This time, the super villain Malekith, the leader of some quite nasty elves, has plans to rearrange the universe to his own liking. Now, it's up to Thor and, believe it or not, Loki – yeah, the head case villian and brother of Thor from the two aforementioned films – to conquer the evildoers and save not only the earth, but their high-in-the-sky homeland of Asgard. Dumb stuff, of course, but fun dumb.

Hemsworth is quite unlike the orignal comic book Thor – he's capable of coming up with a smart, funny line, something the tight-assed original Thor never once did – and Tom Hiddleston's quirky Loki might be the best character of any of the Marvel films to date. A nice addition is the radiant Natalie Portman as Thor's love interest, Jane Foster, who manages to not be the usual sort of whiny, helpless girlfriend character that's usually in the comic books – in fact, Portman's Jane Foster and Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts in the Iron Man films are smart, brave, independent women, quite unlike their original 1960s characters.

The short but sweet synopsis: The special effects are wonderful (although the entire film has the usual dark pallor that affects so many GCIladen productions); the characters are attractive and fun; and there's so much BAM! POW! BOOM! that it becomes almost dizzying. The best part is that you'll feel like you got your $11 worth upon leaving the theater. In 2013, comic book films and animated features are the highest quality movies you'll find in any mallplex. And unlike the 1960s, they beat the tar out of junk like the movie version of TV’s Batman and Alakazam The Great any day. – Cody Bell

t was hard not to Robinson chuckle when the story Cano about the New York Mets’ “secret” dinner with Robinson Cano and his management team came to light. It’s obvious that the Mets cannot afford Cano, and I had doubts that they could even afford to take his reps out to a decent restaurant. The scuttlebutt is that CAA, led by front man Jay-Z, actually bought the Mets dinner. Score one for Jeff Wilpon. The Mets once again diplayed their pennypinching ways when they decided not to match the Colorado Rockies’ $2.5 million offer to retain free agent relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins. This had to have been demoralizing news for Mets fans, considering the fine job that Hawkins did last year. It’s not as if the Mets’ bullpen is full of potential setup men and closers. One former Mets executive told me that he couldn’t believe that they wouldn’t pony up what is chump change by MLB standards to keep a guy who not only performed well, but was a mentor in the clubhouse to young players, was one of the rare leaders on a Mets team bereft of leadership, and a go-to guy for sportswriters. I was saddened to learn of the passing of Major League Baseball Players Association executive

director Michael Weiner, who succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 51. I frequently ran into Michael on the #7 train on the way to Citi Field, where he would meet with both Mets players and those on the visiting team. It was indicative of the down-to-earth man that he was that he eschewed a limo in favor of using the subway. He also valued the opinions of those of us from smaller media outlets as much as he did those who were from major publications and networks. One of Weiner’s last acts was helping arguably the most famous member of his rank-and-file, Alex Rodriguez, prepare his defense against a 211-game suspension by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. Former Atlanta Braves outfielder and Falcons defensive back Brian Jordan was one of the luminaries at the annual Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association event that raises funds for youth baseball clinics. Having played two professional sports, Jordan certainly has a unique vantage point to comment on the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin hazing process. “I was in a lot of clubhouses and locker rooms, and I never

The native of Finland capped off the month by capturing the World Bowling Tour 11th Columbia 300 Open in Vienna, Austria, by defeating fellow Finn Pasi Uotila, 258-237. It is Koivuniemi's third PBA title this year, and 12th career crown. Any WBT wins by PBA touring players count as PBA titles. In the final WBT tournament before the PBA World Series of Bowling,

saw or heard anything like that. If Incognito can prove that he was encouraged ‘to toughen up’ Martin by Miami Dolphins management expect lawsuits to fly,” said Jordan. New York Knicks forward Metta World Peace – still better known to most Walt of us as Long Island City Frazier native Ron Artest – was in chatty mood before the Pacers-Knicks game at the Garden two weeks ago. Artest has been battling knee problems, and at this point in his career is taking more time to recover from the various aches and pains that come along with life in the NBA than he used to. “I always rushed back too soon after getting hurt when I was younger. It’s hard to be smart but I have to try now that I am older,” he said to the media assembled in the Knicks locker room. Metta also said that he enjoyed his staged subway ride on the F train recently as he traveled from his childhood home in Queensbridge to Madison Square Garden. “I remember when the 21st Street opened. I was 13 years old. By the way, do the G and R trains still run in Queens?” he asked. The Knicks’ slow start enraged Madison Square Garden Entertainment/Cablevision CEO James Dolan to the point where, in the ultimate form of anger misplacement, he benched The Knicks City

Koivuniemi bowled for another title, the WBT Thailand Open, dropping a two-game 235-225 and 245-228 decision to Sean Rash. Freeman's Fine: Congratulations to Dennis Freeman of Glendale for proving that “lighter can be righter” by winning the LIGBT tournament at AMF Plainview on November 10. Freeman won his first LIGBT trophy with a 254 handicap game shot with a 13 pound ball. While Freman earned $1,000 by finishing with four strikes in a row, Ron Moskow of Huntington took home $500 by finishing second with a 229. Third place went to 15year-old Scott Kampf of Levittown with a 226 worth $250; fourth place went to Daniel Goldberg of Douglaston, who was seeded into the final shootout with a 772 high series of the day, earning $225 with a 218. The final spot in the shootout went to Andrew Mienkiewicz of Plainview, who won $200 with a 206 rolling in his home house. The AMF Plainview tournament attracted a crowd of 77 entries, and paid out $4,635. The WTBA Beijing pattern proved challenging, as cut scores of 699 and 696 were recorded in the two qualifying squads. Cary Fishman won the LIGBT tournament on November 17 at AMF Babylon, his third. heard about the incident. “I have no comment,” he said with a hearty laugh as he shook his head in disbelief. Sapphire, a gentlemen’s club on the Upper East Side located just across the Ed Koch (Queensboro) Bridge, had some fun with the predicament of The Knicks City Dancers by sending out an email showing one of their lovely dancers wearing a skimpy KCD-like outfit that proclaimed: “Dolan can’t fire our girls!” It was a nice touch on the part of the MSG Network to have Walt “Clyde” Frazier return to his native Atlanta and revisit his childhood home and friends for its “Beginnings” series. What is frequently forgotten is that Clyde was the first NBA player to score an athletic shoe endorsement deal. “A new company, Puma, paid me $5,000 to wear their suede sneakers, and I felt that I was on top Knicks of the world,” Frazier told me at his City Manhattan restaurant, Clyde Dancers Frazier’s Wine And Dine. Puma is spending a lot of money reviving its Classic Suede line, and is hoping that it can have the same luck that Converse has had with relaunching its Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes. Puma would be smart to use Frazier as a spokesman the way that Skechers is using NFL legendary QB Joe Montana to promote its Relaxed Fit shoes as a way of appealing to an older demographic. The Squared Circle (Gotham Books) by Daniel Shoemaker is the most erudite book that I have ever read

about one of my favorite passions; the world of professional wrestling. The author goes into great detail about how wrestling played up ethnic stereotypes to attract and enrage fans right up through the late 1980s, yet it was an endeavor that attracted a lot of minority athletes such as Bobo Brazil, Ernie Ladd, and Pedro Morales. While Shoemaker spends a lot of pages discussing WWE superstars Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, he does not ignore lesser grapplers such as S.D. Jones, whose job was to lose (and he did that well), as well as one of my all-time favorites, “Ravishing” Rick Rude,” whom Shoemaker describes as “a preening narcissist in the ring.”

ryan Adams, who ranks with Rush, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, and Neil Young among the most successful rock performers ever to hail from Canada, will make a rare area appearance as he brings his “Bare Bones” tour to Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of LIU Post in Brookville on Thursday, December 12 at 8 pm. Tickets are at ticketmaster.com. Adams is currently on the road with his “Bare Bones” tour in support of his new CD, Bryan Adams – Bare Bones. The 20-cut disc was released on November 16 in the U.S. and Canada. Recorded on the road in the spring of this year, Bare Bones came about in response to fans requesting a CD of the songs they’d just heard – stripped down, raw, unplugged – the way they had originally been created. The resulting CD is a window into the sold-out highly acclaimed tour that Bryan has interspersed with full band stadium dates over the past few years.

The Grammy and Juno award-winning singersongwriter has spent the last three decades making music history. He has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, toured six continents, garnered 21 top 10 hits, earned nominations for three Academy Awards and five Golden Globes, received 18 Juno Awards, an American Music Award, and five ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards for Most Performed Song from a Motion Picture (his music has appeared on more than 40

Quick Snacks: Bites From Here & There ast food, quick observations: Don't you wish Ralph's Famous Italian Ices stayed open year-round? Burger King's “new” Big King double burger – an obvious attempt at competing with you-know-who's youknow-what – is as lame a concept as anything we've ever tried. When we ordered ours, the dolt behind the counter actually asked “Double Stacker?” which pretty much tells you the “new” burger is just an older one with a new name. Burger King trying to compete with McDonald's is watching a fly soaring straight into a plate-glass window; you only wonder why it can't know any better. That being noted: Eating at McDonald's isn't nearly as much the enjoyable mindless Americana as it used to be, considering recent reports that some full-time employees of the chain can't live on what little money they earn. It's time for this corporate giant to wake up and smell the nuggets, because the more the public learns, the faster it will be to react … by eating elsewhere. movie soundtracks). Adams was recently honoured to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, performing a duet with Nelly Furtado. This past spring he was the recipient of the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at the Juno Award’s ceremony and a week later in Ottawa he received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Bryan also contributed the feature song, "You've Been A Friend To Me," in the John Travolta film, Old Dogs. Adams has been awarded the Order of British Columbia and is a Companion of the Order of Canada; he has received an award for “Artist of the Decade” and has been inducted into the Juno

Hall of Fame. He has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and added his handprint to the Wembley Square of Fame in celebration of his 25th show at the famed stadium. He was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and that ceremony that took place in 2011. Adams’ live performances have benefited His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales Prince’s Trust, Live Aid, Live 8, The Concert for Freedom for Nelson Mandela, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, Net Aid, The Canadian Avalanche Foundation, and Breast Cancer, as well as campaigns that have saved the rainforests, provided food and comfort for the needy and created whale sanctuaries. Through his namesake foundation he has also helped build schools in areas of Southeast Asia, devastated by the tsunami in 2004. Adams is also an acclaimed photographer, donating fees from his photography to his namesake foundation that funds projects supporting the elderly, victims of wars and natural disasters and other disadvantaged individuals. He also has several photographic books to his name including Made in Canada, Haven (UK) and American Women, the latter done in conjunction with Calvin Klein. Proceeds were in aid of breast cancer research. Adams was among a select group of photographers invited to photograph Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Royal Jubilee. That photograph was used a year later on a Canadian postage stamp. In 2009, Bryan was amongst a select group of notable Canadians whose face also graced a Canadian stamp. Adams has released more than 60 singles over the course of his career to date, including: “Heave” “Straight From The Heart,” “Cuts Like A Knife,” “Summer Of 69,” “It’s Only Love” (with Tina Turner), “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You,” “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started,” and more.

Burger King’s “Big King”: Big Blah dinner time. We'll note it again: The “chicken” at the Nathan's complex on Old Country Road in Westbury is a miracle – we thought we'd tasted the last of our drive-in movie style crap, but their “wings” and “tenders” are incredible: Dry, tasteless, cold, greasy garbage right out of the 1960s.

you're missing out on a rare, one-of-kind treat. If you've tried the chicken wings at KFC (everywhere), may we also suggest Premiere Care, with walk-in medical locations at 11 spots in Long Island (and three more on the way). You might need them once the digestive process begins.

If there's anything cooler than than tables at Shake Shack being made from actual former bowling lanes, we have yet to experience it. Every time we eat barbecue at Famous Dave's, we wonder if all the old hunting signs are really old hunting signs or just new signs that are made to look like old signs. Watching senior citizens try to work the new-age Coca-Cola self-serve machines at Burger King and Popeye's is just like … well, watching senior citizens try to figure out the new scanner voting machines. Or Muni Meter parking meters. Or 2012style washing machines. Or ... We don't know who enjoys them – someone certainly must – but both Coke Zero and Pepsi Max taste like coal tar. One of the best things about Long Beach is Swingbelly's Beachside Barbecue, which celebrated its “sixth and seventh” anniversaries on November 14 (as they put it, “that B*tch Sandy ruined Porkchop’s birthday party last year”). If the burgers at Beachtree Cafe in East Islip continue like this, they may soon be under consideration for the best anywhere in Long Island – and you should try them as soon as possible. And if you’re out bowling, you must try the burgers at Woodmere Lanes – they’re so delicious it doesn’t seem possible.

Mazarin will perform selections from Live Forever, holiday favorites, and many of their best-known songs, including “Slave To Rock & Roll,” “Rockers,” and “The Only One,” which The Huffington Post recently posted as # 1 on its list of “The 10 Best Pop Songs You May

Special Edition: Great Buys On The “Other” Tablets Though they never became as hot as cell phones – which can perform many of the same functions – tablet computers are now a mainstay in many households. Here’s some of the best of the “other” brands at present: Archos Back In A Big Way: Archos, an award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, two years ago unveiled its Gen10 XS tablet line. The Archos 101 XS, a 10.1-inch tablet that weighs only 21 ounces and measures 0.31 of an inch thin, was the first of this new line of extra slim Android tablets to debut, followed by the release of the Archos 97 XS and Archos 80 XS later on. Particularly popular right now are the Archos 101 G9 and 97 models. In addition to creating a new standard of thin for tablets, Archos continues to push the technological

boundaries with the innovative Coverboard, a unique magnetic keyboard conceived for each tablet model that will offer protection, a kickstand, docking and easy typing. The Coverboard is included in the box with each tablet. The entire line is Google certified, features Android, and allows full access to Google Play, featuring more than 600,000 apps. A Star-Filled Galaxy: The

talk of the tablet world at this writing is the inexpensive Google Nexus 7 line, which surely will be, at the very least, has become a worthy alternative (if not trumping entirely) Amazon's popular though flawed Kindle Fire HD. “Nexus 7 was made for Google's Google Play platform, so entertainment is right in your hand: the world's largest collection of eBooks, millions of songs, thousands of movies and TV shows, and a growing selection of magazines – plus over 600,000 apps and games,” said Nexus in a press release. Also available is what Google claims is the world's largest collection of eBooks, hit movies and TV shows, more than 600,000 Android

apps and games, and more; it all looks amazing on the Nexus 7's highresoluttion 16:9 screen. Toshiba's Triumph: Toshiba remains a main player in the tablet world with its Excite 10 LE series, which at its launch ranked as the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet, logging in at a scant 1.2 pounds and measuring just .3-inch thin. This tablet is more computer than any of the other popular tablets – you can put iPad in that list – with a ton of add-ons and inputs for HDMI, microSD cards, and USB.

YouTube Music Awards. On November 4, he sat down for a "Town Hall" question-and-answer session that aired on album release day on his Shade 45 radio station, which is broadcast on SiriusXM satellite radio. On the November 6, BET aired a special Rap City: Eminem 360 program comprised of an interview and freestyle session with Eminem, who was also joined by Shady Records' artist Slaughterhouse. And more recently, Eminem appeared on MTV's European Music Awards, where he was presented with the Global Icon Award for his lifetime achievement as well as taking home the award for Best Hip-Hop. Executive produced by a pair of music industry legends in Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 has earned rave reviews. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is Eminem's seventh full-length release for Aftermath Interscope, following 2010's Recovery, which sold more than 7.2 million copies and spawned the worldwide hits "Not Afraid" and "Love The Way You Lie" – making it the first album in the U.S. to ever go platinum digitally. Eminem has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide. Pop trends come and go, but it’s clear that the skills of Eminem haven’t faded in the least – nor have his millions of fans.

He was off the scene for a long time, but it’s clear that no one in the music world has forgotten the one-of-a-kind rap superstar Eminem. The Marshall Mathers LP 2, the new album from this pop music icon, recently ranked as the best-selling album in the U.S., debuting a top the Billboard 200 albums chart and selling 792,000 copies its first week of release (the second largest sales-week of the year). In addition, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and single, "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, are currently #1 on the iTunes Album and Singles charts respectively. Fueled by the success of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, all eight of Eminem's previously released albums under Aftermath/Interscope have reentered the Billboard Top 200 chart, the type of feat not seen often since the heydays of The Beatles and Michael Jackson. In addition, Eminem has become the first lead artist (as opposed to a featured artist) in nearly 50 years to have four songs appear on the

Who: The Atlantic Beach area brings a new hard rock act, Golden Axe Attack, currently riding high following the release of its new single, “Sinkhole.” The relatively new band is comprised of guitarist Arnie Miot, drummer David Weintraub, and bassist Doug Grama. Their sound is a return of the classic “power trio,” but with a decidedly modern and progressive bent that should please rock fans who enjoy metal, hard rock, clasic rock, or guitar-driven progressive/fusion. The band’s offering of instrumentals is not only rare but stunning, firmly establishing it as one of the more unique acts in the region. – Cody Bell The Artists & Their Sound: From the act: “The band, Golden Axe Attack, is pleased to announce the release of their first single entitled ‘Sinkhole’ from their upcoming debut album, March Of The Angels. If you have not heard of Golden Axe Attack, you soon will. They have been wowing audiences for the past year in the New York area. “Golden Axe Attack is a three-piece band with music that can be described as progressive and innovative guitar-driven instrumental rock. The music is seriously powerful, yet cerebral.

Drawing from varied influences, the result is a powerful amalgamation of rock, heavy metal, eastern music and blues. “The band is led by Arnie Miot on guitar. His virtuoustic guitar playing is on a level that few other guitar players will ever attain. His sound is instantly recognizable for it’s unique voice, gut wrenching phrases and stunning chops. Arnie is joined by Doug Grama on bass guitar. Doug’s bass playing creates a harmonic interplay that introduces a progressive new sound that will be setting new trends for years to come. Drummer David Weintraub completes the power trio. ‘David is perfect for this band,’ said Miot. ‘His articulate and propulsive drumming adds to the outstanding muscular and well-oiled machine that is Golden Axe Attack.’ David, similar to his bandmates, is also well known in the New York music scene. “When emotions run deep and words alone cannot express feelings, music must speak to you universally in its very own essence. Golden Axe Attack captures the unique way of communicating their music to the audience.” To Learn More Or Contact The Artists: Write to Golden Axe Attack at GoldenAxeAttack@gmail.com, or log on to GoldenAxeAttack.com or Facebook.com/GoldenAxeAttack.

keyboard skills of Barry Goldberg, and this ranks as one of those rare albums that's both traditional yet modern – and for guitar fans, it's sheer nirvana. Note: The version of this album sold through Best Buy contains three bonus tracks, and it's worth seeking out for the searing instrumental, “High Voltage.” – Bob Smith

Paul McCartney New Here Music “Macca” certainly has nothing to prove, and he still looks and sounds quite spry at 71. The appropriately titled New is not going to make anyone forget Band On the Run, but “Queenie Eye,” “Save Us,” and the title track prove that McCartney is not too old to rock out. While this is not McCartney’s best album, it is also far from his worst – he can't be accused of coasting on his name. – Lloyd Carroll

Katy Perry Prism Capitol The Rides Can't Get Enough 429 Records

Much has been made of the formation of this new blues “supergroup” and the news it has made in the genre in the scant few months that its been on the scene – but the fact of the matter is that this simply is the product of three immensely talented friends who made a rocking, loose album simply because they wanted to. Plainly put, Stephen Stills hasn't sounded this good (particularly vocally) in years. His reading of “Don't Want Lies” features some shockingly emotive singing, and his raw guitar playing stands up well next to the flashier and younger Kenny Wayne Shepherd, who manages to make some blues chestnuts (“Honey Bee,” “Talk To Me Baby”) sound fresh. Add to it all the old-timey

One can accuse Katy Perry of being lightweight, but she obviously wouldn't have it any other way. Her bent for concentrating on catchy hit singles has already propelled her into the all-timem upper stratosphere in terms of record sales (her last album contained that rarest of feats, four consecutive #1's), and this new effort seems to be on the same path – “Roar” already shot to the top spot on the charts, as did this album upon its release. Amazingly, Perry seems to be toning things down while others (the always naked Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, to name two) always ratchet up the sex quotient. Wonder of wonders, Perry's more serious “Unconditionally” sounds like a mega-hit, but so do the silly “This Is How We Do” and “International Smile.” Perry might be the current

Elton John The Diving Board Capitol John and lyricist Bernie Taupin remain prolific on this 15track effort. The pair are in a reflective mood as they are concerned about being isolated as they age (“Can’t Stay Alone Tonight”), and offer melancholy looks at their pasts (“A Town Called Jubilee,” “Home Again”). The highlight is “Take This Dirty Water,” in which John uses a gospel chorus singing behind a melody that's akin to 1971's “Country Comfort.” Longtime fans won't be disappointed. – Lloyd Carroll

Cancellations and schedule changes always seem to cause controversy on TV – even in the boonies. For years, a polka dance program called “The Big Joe Show” ranked as one of the most popular on the RFD TV syndicated network (which formerly ran Don Imus' weekday morning simulcasts before the program was picked up by the Fox Business Network). “Big” Joe – better known as Joe Siedlik – has starred on his own traveling polka music program for years, usually featuring a different band on each program, along with dozens of area polka dancers spinning around huge dance floors in armorys and VFW halls. The show is utterly quaint and has a huge following in rural areas, but what was described in press accounts as simply “a disagreement” a couple of years back forced Joe from RFD-TV. However, the always enterprising “Big Joe” is now offering more than 150 of his programs on a subscription basis on his new “Big Joe Family Shows” streaming network, available on Roku and other streaming devices. “Big” Joe is also hoping to put his show back on the road as soon as possible. This is the beauty of the digital age: Nothing ever has to be out of print, and nothing ever is Beck Bennett really cancelled if you don't want it to be. Even an enterprise such as “Big” Joe's polka hours – as rudimentary a program as you'll find – can stay around and perhaps even gain in popularity. The venerable Siedlik is now 79 but an energetic ball of fun; long may he polka … Beck Bennett – so funny online and in his commericals with kids for AT&T – is slowly starting to show his comic mettle as he’s gradually being given more to do on “Saturday Night

Big Joe Live”; his slow, sure ascention feels a lot like Family Shows Bill Murray’s first season (few remember that Murray barely made a blip upon his debut as he replaced Chevy Chase). Bennett is a sure bet for bigger and better things in the future … Speaking of the 1970s, the EPIX cable network recently aired Filthy Gorgeous, a documentary on Penthouse Magazine founder and publisher Bob Guccione, whose work in the men's sophisticate genre (okay, nudie magazines) will likely never be topped. The film reveals Guccione as a multi-faceted individual who was not only a lover of photography but of film and fine art as well … It surprised virtually no one when NBC canceled a bad idea gone wrong (a new version of “Ironside” featuring Blair Underwood) and a lame new comedy series, “Welcome To The Family.” In the latter's case, it's the most unimaginative title the network could have thought of, way too close to “Modern Family,” “Family Ties,” you name it … No question about it: The upcoming December 5 NBC production of “The Sound Of Music” with Carrie Underwood, Laura Benanti, and Audra McDonald is the exact opposite – a quality family event with a truly outstanding cast. Underwood, in Laura particular, may change her entire career Benanti in one night, as she's clearly destined for Broadway greatness ... David Diamante, the PA announcer for Brooklyn Nets games at Barclays Center, is utterly bush league. Best known for his boxing ring announcing, Diamante orgasmically shreiks out Nets’ baskets like John Sterling on steroids, but makes barely audible, dull, sullen calls when the opposing team dares to score. However, in a sports era when Mike Francesa lobs softballs at a grandstanding Alex Rodriguez, what more can we expect? It’s all show, not substance, and more of the dumbing down of pro sports culture.

Chrome Orange: There's a new Jimi LaLumia single on the way, a turbo-charged dance version of a 1960s garage rock classic, which is all I can reveal right now, but I am having the time of my life recording in the Chrome Orange Studio in Suffolk County with industry vets Mark Gaide and his wife, Sudan Faber Gaide. It’s the first time I've had the chance to actually participate in the actual construction of a

Mott The Hoople

track, pouring over every sound and every aspect. The Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde experiment continues, with dance tracks being released as a solo, and future rock projects still to be billed as The Psychotic Frogs. Hey, it keeps me off the streets and out of trouble. Glam Box: I can never get enough of the U.K. 70s glam tracks that never got their fair day in court in America – and just in time for the holidays,Universal Records UK has issued a five-CD set with a deluxe 100-page booklet, Oh Yes We Can Love: A History Of Glam Rock. It's expensive, but it was my Thanksgiving present to myself (about $90 including shipping via Amazon, being a British import and all that). The early days of the glitter style and sound are represented by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Noel Coward! By the time we get to Disc Five, we are deep into Hanoi Rocks, The Sisters Of Mercy, Goldfrapp, and Dead Or Alive; along the way, of course, there's T. Rex, Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Suzi Quatro, Roxy, Lou Reed, Slade, MainMan’s Dana Gillespie and Mick Ronson, and even Lulu's take on "The Man Who Sold The World." How could I resist? I couldn't. If you were a brave U.S.-based glam warrior in the early part of the 1970s, I don't think that you'll be able to resist this either. Ask someone to get it for you for the holidays if all else fails, and enjoy. Still Going Gaga: It's a Lady

Gaga world. Her new CD, Artpop, was the #1 album in the country as of this writing; her “Saturday Night Live” appearance, as both hostess and musical guest, was breathtaking; she revived R. Kelly by bringing him on “SNL” to perform "Do What You Want," which he is featured on; she will be the last performer to appear at the legendary Roseland Ballroom, which is about to close forever; she has booked her way onto one of those “space flights” for sometime in the near future and will perform one of her singles from the space capsule (no, I'm not making this up); and she co-hosted a Muppets Thanksgiving special. I mean, girl, come up for air! She was, and remains, the ultimate star of our day and age. Kiss & Tell: For the Kiss fan, the book to own is Nothin’ To Lose: The Making Of Kiss (1972-1975) by Ken Sharp – and no, not just because I'm in it. This starts from the very beginning of the band and leaves nothing out, and still has the approval of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons – not an easy feat. So congratulations are in order for Sharp, who had originally interviewed me about the Queens rock club Coventry, a glitter glam bastion in the early 70s, and used my quote for this book instead (some of you may remember Coventry, where Kiss played alongside such genre icons

Wayne County and Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, who debuted there right after Thunders and Jerry Nolan had split from The New York Dolls). Ah, memories!

Legendary former Mountain guitarist Leslie West chose to re-track the classic song "Long Red" for his October 29 solo release Still Climbing. His motive was to reclaim as his own one of the most sampled rock tracks in the history of hip hop. Originally released on Mountain's self-titled album (1969), the song has found a renewed relevance with consistent usage year after year on platinum recordings. Some of the artists who have sampled the track include Jay-Z on 2003's The Black Album with "99 Problems," De La Soul with 2004's The Grind Date with "Verbal Clap," The Game's 2006 album Doctor's Advocate with "Wouldn't Get Far," and 2007's Finding Leslie West Forever from Common with "The People." Recently, Lana Del Rey sampled West's voice saying "Louder" on the title track of Born To Die, while ASAP Rocky's massive hit "Ghetto Symphony" from Long Live ASAP samples "Long Red." On the steady usage of the track throughout the past two decades and continued relevance today, West simply shares, "In 1969, when I wrote the song, there was no hip hop." West released Still Climbing on October 29 via Provogue Records/Mascot Label Group.
