Extreme Music and deadmau5 Launch Electronic Licensing Label Extreme Music, deadmau5, his label mau5trap, and UTA announced the launch of beathau5, a specialist electronic dance music licensing label created specifically for professional music users. The new beathau5 label launched this spring with five album releases, taking an authentic dive deep into the electronic genre with each album personally compiled by JUNO Award-winning and GRAMMY(r) nominated deadmau5. The beathau5' library will also contain contributions from mau5trap artists such as Jay Robinson and Maison Ware. Each of the releases will be followed by NFTs created in collaboration with a worldrenowned visual artist to be announced shortly. "Extreme is an excellent partner to get our selections in the hands of the right people. We're looking forward to working with them and providing the sonic beds for memorable placements to come," stated deadmau5 (who is Joel Zimmerman). Adds Dean Wilson, deadmau5' partner in mau5trap and Founder & CEO of Seven20 Entertainment, "I'm a huge fan of what Russell Emmanuel has built at Extreme Music. It's a forward-thinking company which fits in line with the direction we are going. Extreme's easy to navigate system and direct access to the right industry music supervisors is a place where we are excited to have our Seven20 and mau5trap artists house our incredible stable of electronic producers."

Since then, the label has issued Diplo's Grammy-nominated SIDEPIECE collaboration "On My Mind"-which has accumulated more than 150 million global streams and went #1 on U.S. Dance Radio-"Looking For Me" with Paul Woolford and Kareen Lomax-which has accumulated more than 160 million global streams and went #1 on U.S. Dance Radio-"Turn Back Time" with Sonny Fodera and more. Bountiful Gourmet.... Dallas Ribs

Recently, by the luck of the draw, I had to receive my second Covid vaccine in Jamaica, Queens. This was very fortuitous, since I grew up there and know the area well. But of particular interest to me was Dallas Ribs on Parson's Boulevard. They took over the location of another rib joint. What was deja vu was that the restaurant is in the facade of what was once the Jamiaca Public Library, a magnificent structure where I spent too many hours trying to do homework. Dallas Ribs locations are throughout the city, and a point to note is that it is owned by the same family that once owned the Wetson”s

Hamburger chain on Long Island. I have to admit, they've done a very admirable job with this rib joint. The meal was very satisfying, the ribs tender and delicious. For us smaller eaters, they have a Double Rack special for only $22.99. And yes, we are talking about full racks. Great deal! The entrees, which include chicken and baby backs, baby backs and shrimp, and more come with your choice of salad, baked potato, french fries or brown rice. We opted for the low carbs fries, which turned out to be a virtual mountain of spud goodness. I would also recommend the Lil' Onion Loaf for only $5.99, although there's nothing little about it. Easily enough to feed 2-3 diners. Other great starters include the Angry Shrimp in sweet chili sauce or the Tempura Broccoli. Dallas Ribs is a spacious place, and very comfortable. Some other recommended dishes are the BBQ Brisket Sliders, the burgers are pretty good, and most of the Seafood Combos are fairly large. But, man cannot live by food alone, so you might want to try some of Dallas Ribs' famous frozen drinks including daiquiris, margaritas, pina coladas. Regular sized is only $7.99 but us big boys like the Texas size for $10.99. For you early birds, they have a Chicken Vegetable Soup and half rotiserrie chicken with cornbread and choice of side salad, potato or rice for only $8.99. And, it's available everyday from 11am to 5pm. After you're done, you can jog over to the Jamaica Center for the Arts on Jamaica Avenue for some excellent art displays and if you're lucky, some live music. Dallas Ribs is located at 89-14 Parsons Blvd. Phone 718-2157300

SPORTS BEAT Major League Baseball has made no secret it wants all players to get vaccinated. Frankly everyone should want to get them so they can ward off this evil virus and get our lives back. As a sweetener for the players, MLB COVID protocols would be eased for all teams which achieve 85% of player vaccine compliance. Those teams don’t have to wear masks in the dugout; can eat at restaurants outside of the team hotel on the road; and won’t have to quarantine in the event of a teammate testing positive for the virus. Taking the vaccine would sound like a nobrainer but a number of New York Mets players including JD Davis, Michael Conforto, and Pete Alonso told the media that vaccines were “a personal choice.” Guys, personal choices don’t cut it when you’re in a public health crisis trying to eradicate a dangerous airborne virus which can be spread by

asymptomatic individuals. Mets team president Sandy Alderson spoke to the press via Zoom and forcefully expressed his belief in the vaccines. Alderson admitted there was significant hesitancy among Mets players about the vaccine. New Mets owner Steven Cohen was part of the Zoom presser and it would have been nice if he backed Alderson by urging his players to get vaccinated. Instead “Uncle Steve” said nothing. In comparison, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone declared he felt confident more than 85% of Yankees players would get their vaccines from Montefiore Hospital physician D. Philip Ozuah following the end of their first homestand. He was proven right. In addition the Yankees had Michael Kay interview Dr. Ozuah on the YES Network during a game as a way of urging all Bronx Bombers fans to get their shots. Mets general manager Zack Scott admitted the team failed to reach the 85% threshold after vaccines were first offered to them I can’t say I was surprised. This was bound to happen anyway but the pandemic really pushed this issue. Citi Field has become totally cashless for all transactions so bring your credit or debit cards to the

ballpark. Not that he needs the money after signing a $341 million, tenyear contract with the Mets but shortstop Francisco Lindor has just signed a deal with Oakley to promote its Encoder line of sunglasses. Oakley also sees Queens, the world’s borough, as a key part of its marketing strategy for Encoders and has enlisted athletes from our borough such as competitive bicyclist Nigel Sylvester, skateboarder Yaz, running coach Francisco Balagtas, and surfer Terumi Alana Murao. Mike Puma has been the Mets beat writer for the New York Post since 2010 and he’s the gold standard for anyone who follows the team. He has just penned an oral history of the Mets which encapsulates the last 25 years titled If These Walls Could Talk: Stories from the New York Mets (Triumph Books). Puma smartly avoids getting caught in the Bernie Madoff rabbit hole which destroyed

the Mets for a good chunk of the time he was in the Citi Field press box. He instead gives us grueling recollections of David Wright valiantly trying to get back on the field in spite of painful spinal stenosis, and Johan Santana’s no-hitter at Citi Field on June 1, 2012. Santana’s no-no remains the only one in Mets history and there seems to be a Twilight Zone aspect to it because his career seemed to rapidly deteriorate after that game. In terms of gossip, Puma goes into detail about how outfielder Lastings Milledge went from untouchable to persona non grata in the Mets organization, and gets a Mets exec on the record to explain why the Mets let Daniel Murphy leave as a free agent after this 2015 postseason heroics and why they screwed up. He also reveals former Mets manager Bobby Valentine and ex-GM Steve Phillips have buried the hatchet and are now buddies. My only complaint is Puma doesn’t give his version of what happened when players refused to talk to any reporters if he was in the Mets clubhouse because he joked in print the previous day the only foreign substance you’d find on pitcher Bartolo Colon

was peanut butter. You have to give quarterback Sam Darnold credit for not trashing his former team, the New York Jets, in his first press conference with the team the Jets traded him to, the Carolina Panthers. Darnold took the high road and spoke highly of both the organization and its fans. He would have had every right to be bitter considering the corporate suite instability, bad coaches, and even worse players he had around him, especially on the offensive line where he found himself all too often on his tuchus thanks to opposing linebackers. New York Red Bulls goalie and Fordham University alum Ryan Meara will be inducted this year into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Meara told me he was grateful Major League Soccer’s season was delayed by a

month because that meant he did not have to play in snow. He also said MLS players are concerned about ESPN picking up the TV rights to the National Hockey League because they fear it will come at their expense since ESPN is now their national television carrier. A new company, Pro Hitter (prohitter.com), has created a rubbery resinlike ring that you put on the thumb of your upper hand holding a baseball bat. The company claims this device helps a batter achieve a better level swing and reduces impact sting from battling off inside pitches. Pro Hitter claims top big-league hitters such as Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper, Cody Bellinger and Cory Seager are all users. Sports and beer have always gone well together. In a clever bit of marketing the National Lacrosse League’s New York Riptide, who play their home games at the Nassau Coliseum, are partnering with the Westhampton Beach Brewing Company for Riptide Double India Pale Ale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Boomer Esiason Foundation whose mission to support those with cystic fibrosis.

Hellfire Gala Previews and Predictions: X-Men

On June 9, the Hellfire Gala will celebrate the ascendance of the mutant nation of Krakoa. It will also mark the debut of a new team of X-Men. There have been many different incarnations of the X-Men in the past. But this will be the first iteration that was handpicked to represent Krakoa’s diverse population. Word has it that X-Men co-founders Cyclops, AKA Scott Summers, and Jean Grey took it upon themselves to rethink the team for a new era. Their choices will be the public faces of Krakoa as they defend not only their nation, but also a world that has often hated and feared them. But now, they may reach a new plateau as both heroes and celebrities. Make no mistake, this new team of X-Men is a statement to the world at large. Fittingly, the new team is also making a strong fashion statement as well. Designer Russell Dauterman has provided Scott and Jean with stunning outfits for the occasion. Scott’s new clothing evokes the feel of his previous costumes, with an exaggerated visor and a nearly solid blue ensemble. The shoulder pads, collar, and splashes of yellow and orange give him an air of authority. As for Jean, the flowing cape gives her a regal air. Like Cyclops, she is also rocking a pair of shoulder pads as well.

WOMEN WHO ROCK

Joan Armatrading New Studio Album Celebrated singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading's new forthcoming album,Consequences, is one of her most intimate and direct albums yet and one that wears its conscience and its heart on its sleeve. Armatrading released the album's first single "Already There"available for streaming and scheduled for release June 18th (Digital) and August 13 (CD/LP) via BMG, her 22nd studio album to date, Consequences ably illustrates the fact that Joan Armatrading never likes to repeat herself. It is a very different follow up to 2018's UK's Top 30 hit album Not Too Far Away. Consequences in CD, vinyl and digital format is comprised of 10 tracks in total, all written, performed and produced by Armatrading.

Brazil BasedVocalist/ Instrumentalist Violet Orlandi Brazil-based rock vocalist/instrumentalist Violet Orlandi, has gained viral recognition with her precocious abilities and edgy renditions of heavy metal/grunge/dark/rock artists like Nirvana, Disturbed, Nine Inch Nails, and more, gar-

nering over 860k YouTube followers and 100 million views since beginning in 2016. Notably, her cover video of The Cranberries “Zombie” has received over 12 million views since it was uploaded back in 2018. Now, Orlandi has written and recorded her original debut, High Priest Daughter (out 5/28/21), an intimate look at the most difficult times in the songwriter’s life, including her latest single , "Blooming." The 26-year-old guitarist and singer, originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, has been singing since she could speak. Orlandi began taking singing and guitar lessons in her teens and fell in love with rock music. After a multitude of different bands and projects where she developed her identity as a singer-songwriter, and graduating high school, she went on to study abroad in London and lived there for 5 years, ultimately getting a degree in songwriting. https://violetorlandi.com/ Photo: W3

Queer Feminist Singer/Songwriter Rachel Lark Queer feminist singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rachel Lark, well-known for her biting political commentary and fearless authenticity, brings her hilarious and often raunchy wit to her newest offering, COMING SOON: THE PANDEMIC SESSIONS. A concept album based on her forthcoming stage musical, it was created during the pandemic when production for the live show was abruptly put on hold. When lockdown began, Lark creatively pivoted and marshalled her band and cast members to record 10 of the musi-

cal’s 20 songs in a recording studio, where layering and isolation booths allowed the team to collaborate in a safe and distanced way. Now that production for the live show is back underway, with plans for a San Francisco debut later this year, the album serves as a preview of what’s to come. COMING SOON: THE PANDEMIC SESSIONS arrived via all digital platforms on May 14.

Amanda Cooksey Calls Out Flighty Ex Singer-Songwriter Amanda Cooksey’s newest release “Chicago” is about a love lost in the Windy City that doesn’t quite add up. When relationships end you think about the reasons why and, often, that is when certain things reveal themselves. Specifically, when the other person moves-on quickly… The relatable lyrics, written by Cooksey and Jason Saenz, will resonate with anyone who has experienced a breakup that left them with so many questions. Amanda's unique sound and style, reminiscent of a mix of her inspirations Taylor Swift and Julia Michaels, radiate through in this song. Even without the baggage of a bad breakup, the ethereal overtones, catchy riffs, strong piano and pop-influenced baseline will have anyone listening on repeat. With multiple degrees from Belmont and the University of Florida, Cooksey understands the business side of music as much as she excels in the creative. She has seen success with previous releases, including Photo: Charlene Marin

“Yo Mama” and “What’s His Name,” both of which have been supported by Spotify and the former Radio Disney Country. Also, her cover of Louis Tomlinson’s “Just Like You” was praised by Tomlinson himself.

Julia Michaels Releases Debut Album Not In Chronological Order, or NICO as she refers to it, is a 10song body of work that finds Julia sharing various chapters of her life in one place. “I’ve never been more vulnerable or as happy as I was putting this album together,” she said. “On many of these songs I’m speaking from a new perspective on love that is so much healthier and happier than I’ve experienced in the past,” she adds. “I’m excited to share a new side of me and hope fans love it as much as I do!” Written and recorded over the last year, the album was produced by production and songwriting team The Monsters & Strangerz. The album highlights countless facets of Julia—from the clever and confessional lyricism to the cheeky sense of humor and flawless knack for a signature, sticky, and soaring hook. She surveys each corner of her heart and gets real about life, love, and everything in between. You’ll hear her personality loud and clear on the pensively powerful “Pessimist,” crystallized in the dancefloor bounce of “Wrap Around,” amplified by the wideeyed infatuation of the synth-y “Orange Magic,” and wistfully nostalgic on the finger-picked guitar-driven finale “That’s The Kind Of Woman.”

Called by critic John Dougan as "one of the finest and most influential proto-punk bands to walk the earth.” the Dictators are releasing their first new music in 20 years. The first release is “God Damn New York” – a love/hate song to the band’s home town. 60’s Refugee PG Naylor Ready for Takeoff

Prolific Australia based performing singer-songwriter PG Naylor has released his latest single, “Something for Nothing” to Spotify and all the major music services. A classic rock expert, PG Naylor has a knack for delivering hard hitting vocals with fun lyrics and sleek melodies woven together with both intricate harmonies and straight up grit. Also of note from previous releases: “Fly”, “60’s Refugee” and “Law ‘Bidin Man”. In keeping with the song’s theme of “Something for Nothing”, it’s important to mention PG and his group’s ongoing charity work with Bo Childrens Hospital in Sierra Leone. Expecting nothing in return, the band has raised $50k for the hospital over 8 years. All monies collected from their concerts goes directly from the band to the hospital, no middle man to muddy the waters. PG Naylor brings a new original visit to 60s classic rock music. All songs are written and performed by PG - who was there then in the 60s and is still here now! Although all the songs are new, they slot perfectly into a 60s rock playlist. PG has been playing in rock bands based in Sydney, Australia since the 60s, and after a life in the corporate world he has returned to his first love - 60s rock music - his lifeblood and that of the entire baby boomer generation. RHYTHM TRACKING

With Jimi LaLumia

The movie theater has always been a favorite place for me, especially since I grew up with films featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, a Woodstock Festival marathon, and Diana Ross as Billie Holiday, to name but a few of so many; my favorites tended to be documentaries zeroing in on particular aspects of popular music and results that sprang forth. As a young person, I would have never believed that someday I'd be included in some of these productions, but amazingly, I have been, and two more are on the way in the not too distant future. I recieved a phone call from the super talented award winning documentary film maker Mitchell Stuart, who informed me that "Worst To First", a film about the instant success of Top 40 giant Z100, was in production, and that the station's originating master mind, Scott Shannon, wanted me included in this astounding history. I wound up being interviewed regarding my participation in this pop culture phenomena. I had always been a top 40 fan, but the format was considered dead at the dawn of the 80's. A new station, Z100 , was announced as bringing 'hit radio' back to New York;.Print media laughed, saying the format was dead, and the station would fail. I was the only media person in New York welcoming the station, in print and elsewise. Needless to say, Z100, in one ratings book, did indeed go from

METAL ANTHRAX 40TH ANNIVERSARY One of The Big Four turns the Big 4-0 this year and is celebrating with a number of special activities and events to honor the landmark anniversary. Formed by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker in Queens, NY on July 18, 1981, Anthrax was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast and quickly became regarded as a leader in the genre alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Each week beginning May 3, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and wrapping on the band's official founding anniversary of July 18, Anthrax's social media accounts will offer a series of video testimonials sent in by former band members, fellow musicians, colleagues, and industry veterans sharing behind-the-scenes stories of working with the band and what Anthrax's legacy has meant all these years on. These videos will honor each album in chronological order beginning with the original release, Fistful of Metal. The finale will come as a very special Livestream performance from Anthrax on Friday, July 16, featuring a deep cuts set that will pull from the band's entire career-spanning catalog. All details including ticketing information will be announced shortly. Fans will also be able to get their hands on a special 40th anniversary-edition bottle of Anthrax bourbon to enjoy during the Livestream and keep as a commemorative keepsake. More details will be coming soon. DISTURBED, INCENDIUM COMIC BOOK

number 30 in the ratings to number 1 in just one ratings period, and I was their lone media supporter from day one; some people, decades later, would forget about the details; Scott Shannon is not one of those people, he remembered and acted on it. At the same time, film maker Danny Garcia, who has a string of popular punk documentaries to his credit (The Clash, Sid & Nancy, Johnny Thunders. and more), decided to chronicle the birth of punk in New York City at venues like Max's Kansas City; he sent a film crew to my home for my memories of the 70's downtown, and that film is also in the works for the near future. He was brought here for a reason, and The Vengeful One is his guide.

GIBSON CELEBRATES PETER FRAMPTON

Recreating His Beloved "Phenix" Les Paul Custom

For the past 127 years,Gibson has been synonymous with creating and shaping sound. Gibson is celebrating the iconic models of the Golden Era while leaning into the future with inspiring instruments that nurture new players across generations, and genres of music. Gibson is celebrating the GRAMMYwinning guitarist Peter Frampton, who has been a signature Gibson and Epiphone artist for over two decades. The new Peter Frampton "Phenix" Les Paul Custom VOS guitar from Gibson Custom Shop s available worldwide now at: Gibson.com. "My brand-new Gibson Les Paul Custom VOS has arrived, and boy is it good," says Peter Frampton. "I couldn't be more pleased with the look and sound. Gibson has gone that extra mile in every area to make this feel and sound the closest to my original, storied Phenix Les Paul Custom guitar. The neck and weight of this mahogany guitar will amaze you at how great it feels and how light it is (and it's even a hair lighter than the Photo: Gibson Phenix). This is the real deal. Thank you, Gibson!" Peter's Les Paul Custom aka "Phenix" is the iconic guitar that is both heard on and graced the cover of the classic 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive!. The beloved and legendary guitar was long thought to be lost in a cargo plane crash in 1980, miraculously, the guitar survived the crash in the tail of the plane and 31 years later, it was returned to Frampton and nicknamed the "Phenix. The feature-length documentary film WHAT DRIVES US, directed by Dave Grohl and produced by Foo Fighters, is now available to stream in the U.S. exclusively on The Coda Collection- a unique, subscription streaming offering featuring an exclusive, curated selection of iconic music documentaries, concert films, and episodic series via Prime Video Channels, paired with a complementary website exploring new perspectives on music. WHAT DRIVES US is also available outside of the U.S. via Prime Video in select global markets at no additional cost to the Prime membership. WHAT DRIVES US is an homage to the moment in every musician's life when their commitment is tested and their desire to play music for others becomes an almost irrational act of blind faith. The first step to prove to yourself and the directed by Dave Grohl world that you belong is to load up your instruments, your talProduced by Foo Fighters ent and your courage, and get in the van to take your music to the world - a true rock and roll rite of passage. The documentary is also a tribute to every young kid who dreams of a life playing music. Dave was that kid. As were Ringo Starr, The Edge, Annie Clark, Steven Tyler, Ian Mackaye and everyone in between. The list goes on forever. While they all have stories - outrageous, unbelievable, insane, as well as poignant stories - they all share a common bond. At some point, before anyone knew their name, they had an unstoppable drive to share their music with the world. Their passion led them to leave everything behind, throw caution to the wind, and chase their dream.

Rise Against: "Less Can Be More" Rise Against's new single, "Nowhere Generation," is exploding at radio and global streaming: the track is knocking on Rock Radio's Top 15 door at #16, closing in on Alternative's Top 20 at #22, its total airplay continues to multiply exponentially, and has amassed more than 3.5 million global streams, and counting. So, naturally, with that kind of heat, the punk rockers announced a whole new spin on the track, "Nowhere Generation (Ghost Note Symphonies)," a stripped-down, reimagined take on the original that stays true to its punk spirit and blistering message. Produced by Bill Stevenson, Andrew Berlin, and Chris Beeble, and recorded in August 2020 at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO, Rise Against - Tim McIlrath/ vocals, rhythm, guitar, Joe Principe/bass, Brandon Barnes/drums, and Zach Blair/guitar - was joined by musicians on violin, viola, cello, upright bass, and piano, instruments one wouldn't expect on a Rise Against album, but that offer a fresh dynamic to the song. This is not the first time Rise Against has transformed one of its fiery punk rock songs into a beautifully orchestrated acoustic presentation. 2018 saw the release of Ghost Note Symphonies, Vol 1, a creative endeavor where the band reimagined their music in a way no one expected. The stripped-down orchestration was raw and revealing lyrically while powerful and compelling musically.
