Starring Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Erza Miller, Christina Wren, Amber Heard, Ray Fisher Directed by Zack Snyder Warner Bros. Pictures Opens November 17 There’s a few things that are certain as the minutes tick away toward the opening day of the autumn’s second blockbuster film release: • Gal Gadot, after just one film as the title heroine in Wonder Woman, is the biggest female film star on the planet, an incredible accomplishment. She is perfectly cast in this role, and it’s clear that the big drawing cards aren’t going to be the longer established Batman or Superman (who isn’t a big factor here) – fans want to see both the return of Wonder Woman and the debut of Aquaman, as portrayed by Jason Momoa (sporting a look that makes orginal Aquaman fans ask “Wha’ hoppen? Isn’t Aquaman supposed to look like Van Johnson?”). • Marvel’s over-saturated film and TV franchises better look over their shoulders, as

this movie could rank as the biggest comic book-derived film of all time once the tallies are counted. Even with Thor: Ragnarok on the boards as well, fans could be much more enticed by the prospect of having a screen full of favorite DC characters to root for all at once. • Speaking of old-timer comics fans, more than few of them might be less than happy with the casting of Erza Miller as the super-

speedy The Flash, as he seems to small and too young in a characterization that seems miles away from the origianal comics hero. • This could also be the highest-grossing film of 2017. Thor will present a challenge, but films like A Bad Moms Christmas and Roman J. Israel, Esq will bounce of Justice League like bullets off Superman’s chest. • This is one of the rare cases when advance TV ads aren’t even going to be as effective as word of mouth; kids are clamoring to watch this mighty array of classic superheroes fight the forces of evil. It’s perfect escapism for the post-election blues; pass the popcorn, Edgar.

NBC’s Al Roker Joins Vice President Joe Biden For Book Tour Stop At NYCB Theatre At Westbury

This fall, Vice President Joe Biden is traveling the nation for his “American Promise” tour, a series of conversations that go beyond the 24-hour news cycle and 140-character arguments to connect friends and neighbors around the topics that matter most. On Monday, November 27, Biden will be in conversation with NBC News “Today” anchor Al Roker at NYCB Theatre at Westbury at 8:30 pm. Tickets include a copy of Biden’s forthcoming memoir, Promise Me, Dad: A Year Of Hope, Hardship, And Purpose, to be released today (November 14) via Flatiron Books. At NYCB Theatre, Biden will reveal the big political moments of his career, the life-altering choices he made, and the key traits that have helped him persevere through challenges and live with purpose. He will discuss his new book, which chronicles 2015, the most momentous and challenging year in Biden’s life and career. For 12 months, the vice president balanced the twin imperatives of living up to his responsibilities to his country and his family while his son, Beau, battled brain cancer. Never far away was the question of whether he should seek the presidency in 2016. “Writing the book about my son Beau was a deeply personal process,” said Biden. “It’s my hope that these discussions about the book will allow people going through similar difficulties to relate and maybe find some hope and purpose in times of severe loss.” Tickets are still on sale for this event; log on to the theatreatwestbury.com or call (516) 247-5200.

ebra – the legendary Long Island-based trio that still features its classic lineup, and still rocks as hard as ever – returns to Mulcahy's Pub & Concert Hall for a two-night event on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, Zebra December 2 as these shows will serve as a celebration of Zebra's first Long Island appearance 40 years ago. In addition, these shows will also form the second Hammerheads (the long-lamented Long Island rock club) reunion, as both performances will feature the return of the original Rat Race Choir, featuring the first reunion of its original members – Mark Hitt, Larry McGowan, Dave Chmela, and Steve Luongo – in 20 years. Rat Race Choir were contemporaries of Zebra on the Long Island scene in the early 1980s, and had been one of the most popular bands in the history of the area scene since 1968; the group is widely considered as one of the first American proponents of progressive rock and fusion in their sound. When the news broke that The New York Yankees had fired Joe Girardi following 10 years of service, the reaction of most was mild surprise but not shock. It was easy to assume that Girardi knew that short of his team getting

a parade for winning the 2017 World Series, he would probably get the ax from upper management. A number of New York Mets fans on social media, as well as some in the media, were wondering if the Mets rushed things by hiring Mickey Callaway as their manager three days earlier. After all, Girardi was a household name with a high-winning percentage, and was clearly not intimidated working in a high profile job in the nation’s biggest sports market. My gut tells me that Girardi’s agents probably let the Mets know in discrete manner that he wouldn’t be interested in moving to Queens at this juncture. It’s a safe guess that the Mets would not be comfortable with Girardi’s compensation demands even if he were amenable

to commuting to Flushing. Girardi wouldn’t be the right hire at this juncture; He’s better suited for a team closer to being one of baseball’s elite than the Mets. Fans of the “Amazin’s” won’t want to read this, but based on what we saw last year (and given GM Sandy Alderson’s late July and early August trades of veterans for low-level minor leaguers in return), the Mets are a lot closer to NL East bottom feeders than they are to the perennial powerhouse in the division, The Washington Nationals. At his introductory press conference, Callaway said that he considers the Mets to be contenders, but that was probably diplomacy on his part. Alderson has brought him in for the long haul, and one of baseball’s youngest managers should have an easier time Joe of relating to today’s Girardi players than either Terry Collins or Girardi enjoyed. Ric Flair is one of the most colorful professional wrestlers in history. He was the ultimate bad guy as he would taunt fans with his braggadocio soliloquies, long silk robes, flowing blond hair, fancy clothes and cars, and, of course, beautiful women. What we learn from watching “Nature Boy,” the latest in ESPN’s “30 For 30" documentary TV series, is that Flair actually led that fast life that million dollar mark,” said BVL executive director Mary Harrar. “These monies were raised in small towns and big cities across America by hard-working volunteers that understand the importance of the BVL mission to brighten veterans’ Champions lives. They know that their efforts will truly have an important impact on our veterans.” The majority of the contributions – more than $630,000 – was derived from approximately 300 USBC associations and leagues throughout the country, up from $594,000 in the '15-'16 season. The second largest group of donations was from bowling centers – more than $210,000, a substantial increase from the $139,000 raised in the previous year. At ‘Entertainment Tonight’ we try to put up a wall around politics,” said Frazier The Brooklyn Nets certainly look like a more competent NBA team this year, but it still has significant problems: Point guard Jeremy Lin, who missed nearly all of last season, will miss this one as well with a knee injury. Forward Trevor Booker always looks lost on offense, and seems to always turn the ball over as soon as he touches it. Finally, it’s hard to be a successful business in any industry when you have both distant and disinterested ownership – and that certainly seems to be the case with Mikhail Prokhorov, who recently sold a 49 percent stake in the team to Alibaba co-founder Joseph Tsai. It is reported that Tsai will become the team’s majority owner within four years. The New York Islanders must be given credit for the best sports feel-good story of last month. The team invited Brandon Blooman, a rabid eight-year old fan who is battling Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, to a morning practice, where the child skated with them, took part in meetings, and even

shared meals with the Islanders players. It’s easy to overlook how sports can truly brighten the lives of so many; hat’s off to the Isles for their exceptionally good deed.

Treme, the popular jazz and blues club and luxurious destination spot in Islip, has selected Long Island painter Clemente Ettrick as November's Artist of the Month. For Ettrick, what started out as a keen childhood interest evolved into a career as a commercial artist. Joe Camel, Pantene, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Wendy’s are among the many recognizable brands whose ads he worked on to bring them to public attention. Now retired and having the freedoms of time and choice, much of his work is focused on portraits that include public figures, friends, and family members. The realistic nature of his work as a commercial artist carries over into the art that he creates today. During the month of November, Treme is hosting the exhibit that includes one dozen of Clemente's paintings. Other pieces of his work can be seen in an exhibit at Pot O’Paint Gallery in Baldwin. For more about Treme: (631) 277-2008.

Classic Rock

So Many Legends, Who Still Have Time: Frank Zappa has been much in the news of late: First, it was announced there will be a “hologram” tour featuring the guitarist and social satrist – and that blurb was quickly followed by the announcement of something Zappa's longtime fans have craved for decades: The Zappa Family Trust and Universal released Zappa's Halloween residency of 1977 for the first time in its entirety on October 20 via Zappa Records/UMe in a celebration of the 40th anniversary of these shows. Look for the new Halloween 77 box set … Robert Plant's new album, Carry Fire, hit stores on October 13; he Robert will begin a new North Plant American tour in February … Cheap Trick, of all people, released their first holiday-themed album, Christmas Christmas (featuring the new original song of the same name) on October 20 … Phish have announced a New Year's Eve run of four dates at Madison Square Garden from December 28 through 31; tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster … Now, like artists like Britney Spears, classic rockers can have Las Vegas residencies: Styx and Don Felder return to The Venetian Las Vegas from January 26 through February 2, 2018; yeah, it's Ticketmaster … Cindy Wilson, still of The B-52s, has launched a solo project; her new album, Change, will be released Sparks November 17. The first single, “No One Can Tell You,” can now be viewed on YouTube. She'll perform twice in Brooklyn a few days back: On November 10 at The Bell House, followed by November 11 at The Knitting Factory … Motorhead lives on: Its new album, Under Cover, hit stores recently … You may not have heard of them since the 1980s, but in England, they've never stopped being major hitmakers: Sparks is back with a new album, Hippopotamus, now available everywhere on the planet. Yes, Sparks is still comprised of the brothers Ron and Russel Mael, who stormed out of California in the 1970s with quirky live shows and songs. Cheap Trick

t’s a certified Long Island tradition: The Brian Setzer Orchestra – featuring the Massapequa-bred master guitarist and performer – brings its 14th annual “Christmas Rocks! Tour” on Wednesday, November 22 to The NYCB Theatre at Westbury. For tickets and information on a show that’s always a very big deal in these parts: (516) 247-5200 and thetheatreatwestbury.com. The iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and three-time Grammy-Award winner along with his 19-piece The Brian Setzer Orchestra will perform music from their latest Christmas

album, Rockin’ Rudolph (available now as a limited edition box set, CD, vinyl, or download), plus music from their three previous holiday albums, as well as original material from Setzer. This has been a big year for The Brian Setzer Orchestra (BSO), which celebrated its 25th anniversary in style with an exclusive, landmark show at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on August 2. Under the stars at the legendary venue, where they’ve performed on four previous occasions, Setzer’s trademark guitar work and vocal stylings were matched with his 19-piece orchestra’s rockin’ big-band horn

arrangements, making for a reliably unbeatable combination. Setzer belongs to an elite group of artists who’ve had four super successful phases of his career, from The Stray Cats, to solo albums, to The Rockabilly Riot, to BSO. The BSO show seamlessly encompasses music from all these phases. “The music I play in the big band is rock & roll with a jazz influence,” said Setzer, who always expresses his love for the NYCB shows. “What keeps it fresh is the quality of the players in the band. Also a big part of keeping the big band fresh is the arrangements; writing the arrangement for 18, 19 people is like writing a song within a song. It makes the song you might have heard many times sound new again.”

An In-Depth Look At The Hottest Area Artists

Who: Larger Than Life is truly living up to its band name: They were the first to use the concept of playing homage of every boy band from The Four Season to 98 Degrees, and they’ve pretty much taken over as one of the most popular weekend acts at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall in Wantagh. The Artists & Their Sound: The band’s official bio: “Larger Than Life – the ultimate boy band tribute – started in New York, and it is taking the country by storm. This is the only act of its kind featuring actual boy band singing, dancing, costumes and that ‘pop’ look. Larger Than Life will take you back in time with the biggest ’90s party since The Backstreet Boys shut down Times Square. Experience this full interactive production that is one of a kind! “Founders Edvin Ortega and John Wagner are leading the way in bringing back the ’90s with over 40 boy band songs by The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, New Kids On The Block, 98 Degrees, O-Town, Boyz II Men, LFO, One Direction, and many more. And for extra fun, the ‘boyz’ take us even way back with hits by The Jackson 5, The Temptations, Four Seasons, and other classic male groups, truly making this ‘The Ultimate Boyband Tribute’! “Edvin Ortega, who has had roles in big hits like ‘Orange Is The New Black’ and ‘Gotham,’ fronts LTL,and also directed the group's documentary. ‘Larger Than Life: A Boy Band Story’ is available on Amazon streaming and DVD.” To Contact & Learn More About The Artists: Yes, they’ll be back at Mulcahy’s on November 17. Also coming up: November 22 at Brewski's Bar and Grill in Bronx, New York, and November 25 at Mickey Spillane's in Westchester. Find the group at wearelargerthanlife.com, or find them on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

We Found Our Thrill: So it finally happened; a pioneer rock star died, but when I heard that Fats Domino was gone, I was shocked – yes, I had believed that his passing had already occurred. Domino was born in 1928; with more current music stars dying so young, one forgets that the “old school” were cut from different material. They were not hardcore into drugs, they were not challenged in a psychiatric way because they came up from very hard circumstances, and they were happy to have made their way into the public eye, to get a good car Fats Domino and a nice house. For them, that was more than enough. Did you know that Fats Domino had 39 Top 40 hits on the Billboard singles chart? The big ones – "Blueberry Hill," "I'm Walkin'," and his first, "Ain't That A Shame," still sound as fresh as they did yesterday. A true giant from the early days

of rock & roll is gone. Ronson Lights It Up: I don't think I've ever seen a book on another departed rocker, Mick Ronson, before – so when I

stumbled upon Mick Ronson: The Spider With Platinum Hair by Weird & Gilly, I was both delighted and repulsed. I was delighted that Ronson had finally gotten his moment – yet repulsed by the simplistic title (a reference to Spiders From Mars, which was the band that he led in support of David Bowie's

Book photo provided by Jimi LaLumia

Ziggy Stardust period) as well as the author names, lifted from lyrics on the Ziggy album. Nonetheless, it's a great, quick read; the black and white photos (this is a slightly oversized paperback, not a hardcover release) are quite enjoyable, and for the most part, the saga of Ronson's solo career getting caught in the shifting gears of RCA and the MainMan company are spot on. This is a must for Bowie fans. RCA Records should give Mick's solo outings, Slaughter On 10th Avenue and Play Don't Worry, proper re-issues if they still hold the rights. Boo Was Cool: I had a great Halloween at 89 North Music Venue in Patchogue. Their Saturday costume party featured the appropriately attired O El Amor, who have cultivated a massive and loyal fan club who follow them around similar to the way Kiss fans follow their guys. I had a great time lighting a cigarette for David of 89 North and sharing decades' worth of rock tales from the LaLumia vaults. Support your Long Island nightclubs – and I must get out more often!

This song is one of my first songwriter songs, I'd say. It chronicles the life of Norma as a musician in the ’70s, and trying to bring up her young son while she's gunning for sustainable success.
