The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council promises an adrenalinepumped show amidst the stunning backdrop of Mina Zayed, the capital’s historic port. The evolution of this highlypraised range establishes the addition of a family of hybrids under the Bentley brand for the first time. Thanks to the team at Bentley Qatar, Hadag recently received the opportunity to inspect and road-test this fourdoor, luxury Grand Touring saloon. IMMACULATE EXTERIOR DESIGN What we noticed first about the exceptional exterior design was the electronically retractable Flying B mascot adorning the hood for the first time on a modern-day Flying Spur – a symbol of the brand’s almost unmatched success and prestige. The car’s keyless entry system links to a welcoming lighting sequence that illuminates and deploys the mascot as the driver approaches the vehicle. Equally impressive was the imposing radiator matrix, finished in gloss black, with bright chrome surround and vertical vanes that hark back to the 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Flying Spur. This eye-catching element is complemented by standard state-of-the-art LED matrix headlights featuring unique 28

Bentley have retained a timeless quality in their new Flying Spur, while incorporating cuttingedge technology into its makeup. cut-crystal-effect detailing. Simply stunning! At the sides, the increased road presence of this immaculate motorcar became even more apparent. This latest generation exhibits sleeker yet more muscular lines than its predecessors – sweeping over the haunches and along the length of the body. The sultry silhouette of this splendid saloon is accentuated by striking and elegant 22-inch, black-painted 10-spoke wheels. Shifting to the back end, we admired the elegantly proportioned, tapered rear – specifically designed to feature the written ‘Bentley’ script beneath the traditional winged ‘B’ motif. We appreciated the superb design of the rear wrap-around lamps that utilise the familiar Bentley ‘B’ graphic, also displaying the cut-crystal effect. LUXURIOUS INTERIOR Slipping inside the 2023 Flying Spur, we were instantly in awe of the contemporary and uplifting space that welcomed us. We found the luxurious cabin to skilfully combine key elements of the Bentley brand’s DNA with cutting-edge technology and some of the finest automotive craftsmanship we’ve ever seen. Firstly, we loved how the design lines of the interior connect the front and rear areas to create a seamlessly integrated style. Fine attention to detail was apparent when seated in the cockpit. On the Flying Spur’s dashboard, the brand has replaced the traditional round ‘bullseye’ vents with freshly crafted, precision detailed, diamond knurled vents on either side of the timeless Bentley clock, itself featuring optional diamond knurling and standard bronze detailing. The wooden accents are crafted from 80-yearold Burr Walnut and hand-stained with a dark finish. We found this technique to emphasise the natural black colouring of the wood, thereby highlighting the intricate pattern of the grain. Our test drive model included threedimensional, diamond-quilted leather inserts in the doors and rear quarter panels. The front seats, featuring a twin-flute design, were equally gorgeous, as were the new, supremely comfortable straight flute seats in the rear, complete with 14-way adjustment and five massaging modes. STATE-OF-THE-ART INFOTAINMENT AND TECH Bentley have retained a timeless quality in their new Flying Spur, while incorporating cuttingedge technology into its makeup. When we pressed the engine start button, the veneer section in the middle of the dashboard rotated to reveal a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen. 30

In the rear, a multi-functional, five-inch colour touch screen remote control is mounted atop the centre console. he first Maserati GranTurismo was introduced to the public 75 years ago with the release of the classic A6 1500. Today, this globally renowned sports car manufacturer is breathing fresh life into GranTurismo’s lineage with the unveiling of a new modish model. Hadag was invited by the team at Maserati Bahrain to test drive the brand’s latest creation, an opportunity we whole-heartedly accepted. EXHILARATING EXTERIOR The moment our eyes met the GranTurismo, we were captivated by its unique yet immediately recognisable lines. Maserati have maintained the classic proportions that fans of this twodoor, four-seater sports coupé have admired for so long, while managing to further enhance its already massive appeal. The elongated bonnet announces the car in style, a feature that kept us staring at the front end for quite some time, taking in the sheer beauty of the design. Adding to the fresh and sporty feel of the face are vertical lights that lead the eye to the car’s black front grille, with gloss black slats and brushed chrome outline, complete with the brand’s iconic 3D trident logo. Shifting our attention to the flanks, we appreciated the intersection of the bonnet and central body with the three iconic Maserati air vents. Adding to the sporty prowess of the GranTurismo is the sloping roofline highlighting the overall aerodynamic design of the vehicle, dropping dynamically to emphasise the curve of the pillar – also featuring the trident logo. The 20-inch wheels at the front and 21inch at the back, coupled with prominent brake callipers, hint at the sporty performance of this potent-looking sports car. At the back end, we immediately noticed the fresh, full LED taillights, the design of which is a mix between the brand's classic boomerang and harpoon forms. The brushed chrome accent above the rear trident logo and the chromeplated exhaust terminals add further touches of class to the distinguished exterior design. INTOXICATING INTERIOR Once inside the GranTurismo, we sat is amazement absorbing the sheer mastery of what Maserati has managed to accomplish. The pure and contemporary feel of the luxurious cabin is achieved through the seamless merging of Italian artisan tradition and state-of-the-art technology. What was also instantly recognisable to us, was how every interior component is devoted to functionality, with all controls in touch format. The absence of a gear lever means the space now features a series of useful compartments that we found to have a great spacious impact. The quality craftsmanship of the distinctive dashboard stood out to us, with its slim and elegant upper section appearing to soar over the main part underneath. Other mustmention interior features include the sporty yet comfortable seating in both the front and the rear, along with the new multifunctional sports steering wheel. The more we looked around the cabin, the more we noticed the use of top-end materials and an obsessive attention to every detail. INFOTAINMENT & TECHNOLOGY Although the look and feel of Maserati’s latest GranTurismo is beyond impressive, it was only once we took a good look at the included tech that the car began to raise itself well above other would-be competitors in the luxury sports car segment. Firstly, we found the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) system to deliver an unparalleled digital experience, providing fluidity and responsiveness, as well as allowing for online updates and customisation. Additionally, we admired the new, tailor-made digital interfaces that provide an exceptional setup. The GranTurismo houses a 12.3-inch central display and an 8.8-inch comfort display. We recognised how both touchscreens are ergonomically positioned to facilitate easy access to the controls and the system is very user-friendly. Maserati’s exclusive new quick gesture 38

control allowed us to effortlessly control the cabin’s temperature without taking our eyes off the road ahead. Even more impressive was the reconfigurable heads-up display that minimises driver distractions by projecting key information such as speed, maps and directions directly onto the windscreen. Our other must-mention tech features include the 12.2-inch digital dashboard that wraps around the steering wheel and the classic Maserati digital clock with multiple customisable functionalities. Additionally, the exceptional Sonus faber sound system and the digital rearview mirror that changes into a display for the rear-view camera raise the GranTurismo to an even higher level of excellence. PERFORMANCE & SAFETY Once we managed to pull ourselves away from the delightful design details, it was time to get the new GranTurismo out onto the road. Maserati has powered the GranTurismo with its performance focused engine, The Nettuno. The Nettuno is a six-cylinder engine with twinturbos, giving you 490hp in the Modena engine & 550hp in the Trofeo engine trim. In any engine trim, you are pressed back to your seats with a smile spread from ear-to-ear. We were pleased to experience the control delivered by the steering, braking and suspension system. The car is not only super-fast but effortlessly handles corners, even at higher speeds.

he Amalfi Coast is not just a place, it’s a feeling. Warm sun, gorgeous pastelhued buildings perched higgledy-piggledy on mountainsides that climb up from the glistening waters of myriad small, pretty beaches. The riotous hues of brightly coloured flowers are everywhere and huge lemons scent the air. But perhaps the most extraordinary thing is the light, almost luminescent in the early mornings giving way to a bright, exciting fizz throughout the day. We arrived at Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel in the early afternoon, full of anticipation to explore this gorgeous heritage building. Built into the soaring cliffside above Amalfi town itself, the 13th century, former Capuchin convent is an imposing sight, mistress of all it surveys despite its mellow, pale ochre hue. The staff were immediately warm and welcoming, greeting us as old friends as we were shown to our amazing suite, where we encountered the softest of beds, every amenity you could wish for, a huge, opulent bathroom complete with Aqua di Parma toiletries – I absolutely adore the delicate scent of these – and not one but two balconies overlooking the town, port and far along the shoreline. To say we grabbed every possible minute out there would be an understatement. Having experienced the town, chaotic and filled with tourists even in early October, we were amazed at the serenity and peace of the convent. You could almost forget that you were right above one of Italy’s busiest coastal areas. The building is surrounded by gardens where many of the herbs and vegetables used in the restaurants are grown and guests are free to roam. Dining Extraordinaire On our first evening, we were invited to dinner at Dei Cappuccini Restaurant, an absolutely gorgeous open-air terrace overlooking the twinkling lights of Amalfi below. Thanks to my profession, I have been lucky enough to sample some extraordinary dining experiences and this has to be up there with the very best. From the amuse bouche, a delicate croquette of crumb-coated, seasoned cabbage with lemon mayo served atop a pebble, which truly did excite the mouth preparing our taste buds for the feast to come, to Gragnano spaghettone with lemon, smoked buffalo butter and grilled squid (caught just along the coast), and potatoes from Tovere, another Amalfi neighbour, prepared with egg yolk and summer truffle, our introduction to Convento cuisine was spectacular. These were followed by cannelloni filled with eggplant parmigiana with basil pearls and datterini coulis – the light sweetness of the tomatoes perfectly complementing the sublime mix of the al dente pasta, coupled with silky aubergine. And, the crowning glory: sea bass meunière with grilled celery and anchovies alongside vegetables fresh from the garden. The fish was exquisitely rendered, its delicate flesh flaky but not in the least dry made all the more perfect by the soft 72

‫مبان‬ ‫ساحل أمالفي ليس مجرد مكان‪ ،‬إنه شعور‪ .‬شمس دافئة‪،‬‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫ساحرة بألوان الباستيل متداخلة على جبال ترتفع من المياه‬ ‫الالمعة للعديد من الشواطئ الصغيرة والجميلة‪ .‬الزهور الملونة‬ ‫بألوان زاهية في كل مكان وعطر الليمون الكبير يفوح من‬ ‫مشعا‬ ‫الهواء‪ .‬ولكن ربما أغرب شيء هو الضوء‪ ،‬الذي يكاد يكون‬ ‫ً‬ ‫في الصباح الباكر ويتحول إلى فورة مشرقة ومثيرة طوال النهار‪.‬‬ ‫وصلنا إلى فندق أنانتارا كونفينتو دي أمالفي الكبير في بداية‬ ‫الظهيرة‪ ،‬وكلنا ترقب الستكشاف هذا المبنى التراثي الرائع‪ .‬يقع‬ ‫هذا الدير الكبير الذي يعود إلى القرن الثالث عشر على جانب‬ ‫الجرف المرتفع فوق مدينة أمالفي ذاتها‪ ،‬وهو مبنى مهيب يطل‬ ‫على كل ما يحيط به بفضل لونه األصفر الفاتح الناعم‪.‬‬ ‫كان الموظفون ودودين ومرحبين على الفور‪ ،‬يستقبلونا كأصدقاء‬ ‫قدامى بينما تتم مرافقتنا إلى جناحنا المدهش‪ ،‬حيث وجدنا أنعم‬ ‫ضخما‬ ‫وحماما‬ ‫األسرة وجميع وسائل الراحة التي يمكن أن تتمناها‪،‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫وفخما مع منتجات أكوا دي بالما للعناية بالجسم ‪ -‬أحب بشدة‬ ‫ً‬ ‫الرائحة الخفيفة لهذه المنتجات ‪ -‬وليس لدينا واحدة ولكن اثنتين‬ ‫من الشرفات تطل على المدينة والميناء وعلى طول الشاطئ‪.‬‬ ‫يمكننا القول أننا استغللنا كل دقيقة ممكنة هناك بكل ما فيها‪.‬‬ ‫بعد تجربتنا للمدينة‪ ،‬المزدحمة ومليئة بالسياح حتى في أوائل‬ ‫أكتوبر‪ ،‬كنا مندهشين من هدوء الدير وسكينته‪ .‬يمكنك أن‬ ‫تنسى تقري ًبا أنك فوق واحدة من أكثر المناطق الساحلية‬ ‫ازدحاما‪ .‬يحيط المبنى بحدائق ُيزرع فيها العديد‬ ‫اإليطالية‬ ‫ً‬ ‫من األعشاب والخضروات المستخدمة في المطاعم ويتمكن‬ ‫الضيوف من التجول بحرية‪.‬‬

‫تجربة تناول الطعام االستثنائية‬

‫في مسائنا األول‪ ،‬تمت دعوتنا لتناول العشاء في مطعم دي‬ ‫كابوتشيني‪ ،‬وهو تيراس في الهواء الطلق رائع حقً ا يطل على‬ ‫أضواء أمالفي المتأللئة أسفلها‪ .‬بفضل مهنتي‪ ،‬كنت محظوظة‬ ‫بما فيه الكفاية للتمتع ببعض تجارب الطعام االستثنائية‪ ،‬وهذا‬ ‫واحدا من أفضلها بكل تأكيد‪.‬‬ ‫يعتبر‬ ‫ً‬ ‫من "أموز بوش"‪ ،‬وهو كروكيت خفيف مغطى بقشرة وتوابل‬ ‫ملفوفة بصلصة المايونيز بالليمون المقدمة فوق حصاة‪ ،‬التي‬ ‫حقً ا أثارت الفم وأعدت تحضير حواس التذوق للوليمة المقبلة‪،‬‬ ‫إلى سباغيتي جرانيانو بالليمون وزبدة الجاموس المدخنة والحبار‬ ‫المشوي (الذي يتم اصطياده على طول الساحل مباشرة)‪،‬‬ ‫والبطاطس القادمة من توڤير‪ ،‎‬جارة أخرى ألمالفي‪،‬محضرة مع‬ ‫صفار البيض والكمأ الصيفي‪ ،‬كانت مقدمة مذهلة لمطبخ الدير‪.‬‬ ‫ثم تلتها الباذنجان البارميجياني المحشو بالكانيلوني مع آللئ‬ ‫الريحان وصلصة الطماطم داتيريني ‪ -‬حالوة الطماطم الخفيفة‬ ‫التي تضفي الحالوة المثالية على المزيج الرائع من معكرونة‬ ‫هوه‪ ،‬إلى جانب الباذنجان الحريري‪.‬‬ ‫النصف َم ْط ّ‬

Our repast was accompanied by a selection of grape pairings, many of them local and almost all Italian, each mouthful superbly drawing forth the flavours and textures of the food. A Historical Adventure Luxury travel these days is all about experiences and the next day we were treated to something very, very special and specific to Anantara Convento di Amalfi. Pace & Bene with Fra Marcus. The hotel has formed a partnership with Franciscan Friar Fra Marcus, who introduced us to the convent’s magnificent cloister, which has been sympathetically preserved (it’s possible to have the most romantic wedding or dinner ever there), and the exquisite chapel, complete with organ, which I would defy even the completely A-religious to visit without a feeling of deep spirituality. We then travelled with him to the beautiful neighbouring town of Ravello, a favourite with those seeking escape from the crowded, coastal madness. An extremely erudite yet humble man, Fra Marcus showed us around the Baroque church, built in 1222 by Saint Francis of Assisi, and took us to his own church and convent, where he is one of only two remaining Franciscan Friars. Sharing the story of this magical place, the friar explained that the partnership with Anantara helps fund the convent, which boasts a library of more than 50,000 books, all waiting to be catalogued. Worth a visit purely for the architecture, to hear the stories of Ravello, its famed gardens and festivals and, of course, its convent, from one who actually lives there and is truly passionate

about its future, was undoubtedly one of the high spots of our whole Italian adventure. And I should mention that Fra Marcus is working with the hotel chefs to recreate some of the recipes of the ancient nuns – an excellent reason to return, if one were needed. On the way back we stopped at the delightful Mimí Pizzeria & Cucina for lunch – honestly the antipasti was a whole meal in itself. Coming from our region, where so many of our fruits and vegetables are imported, the lush, local produce was an absolute joy and the place was buzzing with locals and vacationers alike. Amazing Accommodation On our return to Anantara Convento di Amalfi, a tour of the property was in order and we were amazed at the way it has been restored; so sympathetic to the history yet managing to introduce plenty of modern touches to make any visit one of comfort and tranquillity. Many of the 52 guest rooms and suites – several of which were first built as monks’ quarters – feature original tiles, vaulted ceilings and limewashed walls for a sense of simplicity, blended seamlessly with rich textiles, sculptural furniture and local art. We were particularly taken with Suite Dell’Eremita, the former hermit’s room, at the top of dozens (if not hundreds) of steep steps, which is now an amazing suite carved into the rock of the mountainside. It really is something to behold with its private terrace and lemon grove and stunning coastal views. A signature Anantara spa treatment featuring, of course, citrus oils followed, before another amazing dinner. This time we visited La Locanda della Canonica Pizzeria by Gino Sorbillo, situated along the terrace beside the pool where, by day, we had happily basked in the late summer sun. Hailing from one of the oldest pizza-making families in Naples, Maestro Gino Sorbillo is one of the world’s most famous pizza makers and it’s easy to see why. From unexpected toppings to the crispiest of crisp crusts, this was a taste of Naples in one of the most scenic locations in Italy and a most fitting way to end our Convento experience. To say parting was such sweet sorrow would, indeed, be an understatement. We will most definitely be back. must confess that when the invitation to travel to Saadiyat Island came to my inbox, I had no idea where or what it was. After some quick research, I discovered it was most definitely a place to be visited. Located in Abu Dhabi between the city centre and Yas Island and only 20km from the airport, Saadiyat Island is a naturally occurring islet, home to pristine white sandy beaches, azure waters and a vast range of wildlife, such as fast gazelles and Hawksbill sea turtles, co-habiting with culture, leisure and luxury. The meaning of its name is happiness, and it didn’t take long for me to understand why. Sustainability is quite a trend, but at Saadiyat Island, this concept is taken extremely seriously. No motorsports are allowed, no plastic straws are used in restaurants, biodegradable guest amenities (one innovative solution is cornstarch-based) have been implemented, and a series of tactics is in place to entirely eliminate plastic bottles (some hotels gift their guests with stylish reusable water bottles), amongst other initiatives. Lush Stay The island offers six luxurious resorts to choose from: Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas, Rixos Premium, Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Nurai Island. I stayed at Jumeirah and the laid-back luxury flair, something that this brand knows well, was easily felt as soon as I walked in. The ample lobby is bright and faces the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. Hanging from the ceiling, hand-blown blue Bohemian crystals in the shape of jellyfish and water droplets (with more than 100 of them) seemed like an extension of the sea – an immense and lovely installation. The décor was minimal, with comfy sofas and tables in blue and sandy colours, exactly what you want when looking for a beach resort – modern sophistication without over-the-top furnishing. My first impression of the hotel regarding their staff couldn’t have been better. Ahmed, the front desk agent, welcomed me with a big smile and helped me with a smooth check-in and a comprehensive explanation of the hotel facilities. He then asked lovely Deisy, one of the concierges, to help me find my room; she also showed me how to use all the modern accessories. My room was the Ocean One Bedroom Suite on the same floor as the lobby. It had a big living space with two balconies, an ample sofa and a round dining table. A big sliding panel separated this area from the bedroom, composed of a comfy king-size bed, a round lounger (circular elements are one of the latest trends in interior design), a coffee machine and all the expected amenities. The bathroom had a big tub, two sinks and, to my delight, a rain shower. But if you are looking for extreme luxury, you can stay in one of the private villas. They come in two, three, four and five bedrooms, all with their own pool and outside space for gatherings. At this property, you also find a welcoming 24hour gym with Technogym equipment and a spa offering 15 treatment rooms with one of 80

the largest Hammam facilities in the city. Jumeirah offers delectable eateries, and I noticed that not only hotel guests but outside diners also go there to enjoy the high-end restaurant options. I dined in three of them: Mare Mare, offering an Italian menu; Tean, dedicated to Levantine cuisine; and White, where breakfast (with one of the most expansive spreads I have ever encountered, from freshly prepared pancakes and flaky pastries to an exciting avocado toast station and refined cold cuts selection, such as beef bresaola and smoked pepper mackerel. I would go back just for that!), brunch and dinner buffets are available. The quality of ingredients and beautiful presentation was consistent in all of them. However, if I have to highlight only two things about Jumeirah, it would be its well-trained and amazing staff and the beach. I could live there! The pristine water, white fluffy sand, comfortable sun loungers and refreshing water brought in cute mini coolers would be enough to keep me happy for days. Dining Scene I guess one of the best places to find an array of restaurants would be the Mamsha al Saadiyat promenade. We went there for a walk to embrace this amazing beachfront community and to have lunch in a place that I can securely say has to be the best Lebanese restaurant that I have ever eaten at in my life: Beirut Sur Mer.

‫تتوفر على الجزيرة ستة منتجعات فاخرة لالختيار من بينها‪.‬‬ ‫تشمل هذه المنتجعات‪ :‬جميرا في جزيرة السعديات‪ ،‬وفندق‬ ‫وفلل بارك حياة أبوظبي‪ ،‬وريكسوس بريميوم‪ ،‬ومنتجع وفلل‬ ‫السعديات روتانا‪ ،‬ومنتجع سانت ريجيس جزيرة السعديات‪،‬‬ ‫وجزيرة نوراي‪ .‬أقمت في جميرا‪ ،‬وكان من السهولة أن أشعر‬ ‫بالرفاهية الفاخرة واألناقة العصرية فور دخولي‪ ،‬وهو ما تميز به‬ ‫هذا العالمة التجارية المعروفة‪.‬‬ ‫يتميز اللوبي الواسع والمشرق بإطاللته على مياه الخليج العربي‬ ‫الفيروزية‪ .‬بدت البلورات البوهيمية الزرقاء المنفوخة يدو ًيا من‬ ‫السقف على شكل قناديل البحر وقطرات الماء (مع أكثر من‬ ‫‪ 100‬منها) وكأنها امتداد للبحر‪ ،‬وتشكل تركيبة فنية ضخمة‬ ‫وجميلة‪ .‬يتميز التصميم الداخلي بالبساطة‪ ،‬مع أرائك وطاوالت‬ ‫مريحة بألوان زرقاء ورملية‪ ،‬مما يلبي بالضبط ما تتوقعه عند‬ ‫البحث عن منتجع ساحلي‪ ،‬فهو تطور حديث بدون تكلفة زائدة‬ ‫في األثاث‪ .‬كانت أول انطباعاتي فيما يتعلق بموظفيهم ال يمكن‬ ‫أن يكون أفضل‪ .‬استقبلني أحمد‪ ،‬موظف مكتب االستقبال‪،‬‬ ‫بابتسامة كبيرة وساعدني في إجراء عملية تسجيل الوصول‬ ‫شرحا شام ً‬ ‫ال لمرافق الفندق‪ .‬ثم طلبت‬ ‫بسالسة‪ ،‬كما قدم لي‬ ‫ً‬ ‫المساعدة من ديزي‪ ،‬الكونسيرج الجميلة‪ ،‬لمساعدتي في العثور‬ ‫على غرفتي وشرحت لي كيفية استخدام جميع المرافق الحديثة‪.‬‬ ‫كانت غرفتي تتكون من جناح "‪ "Ocean One Bedroom‬في نفس‬ ‫طابق الردهة‪ .‬وكان يتميز بمساحة معيشة واسعة تحتوي على‬ ‫اثنتين من الشرفات‪ ،‬وأريكة فسيحة‪ ،‬وطاولة طعام مستديرة‪.‬‬ ‫وكان هناك باب منزلق كبير يفصل هذه المنطقة عن غرفة‬ ‫مريحا بحجم كبير (سرير كينج)‪،‬‬ ‫النوم‪ ،‬والتي تتضمن سري ًرا‬ ‫ً‬ ‫وكرسي استلقاء مستدير (حيث تُعتبر األشكال الدائرية واحدة‬ ‫أيضا آلة‬ ‫من أحدث اتجاهات تصميم الديكور الداخلي)‪ .‬وتتوفر ً‬ ‫صنع القهوة وجميع وسائل الراحة المتوقعة‪ .‬ويحتوي الحمام‬ ‫أيضا‬ ‫على حوض استحمام كبير ومغسلتين‪ ،‬ولقد أسعدني ً‬ ‫وجود دش مطري فيه‪.‬‬ ‫إذا كنت تبحث عن تجربة الرفاهية الفاخرة‪ ،‬يمكنك اإلقامة في‬ ‫إحدى الفيالت الخاصة المتاحة‪ .‬تتكون هذه الفيالت من غرفتين‬ ‫وثالث وأربع وخمس غرف نوم‪ ،‬وتحتوي كل فيال على حمام سباحة‬ ‫خاص ومساحة خارجية للتجمعات واالستمتاع‪ .‬باإلضافة إلى ذلك‪،‬‬ ‫يتوفر في الفندق صالة لأللعاب الرياضية ترحيبية تعمل على‬ ‫مدار ‪ 24‬ساعة‪ ،‬مجهزة بأحدث التجهيزات التكنولوجية‪ ،‬باإلضافة‬ ‫إلى منتجع صحي يحتوي على ‪ 15‬غرفة عالج ومنشأة حمامات‬ ‫واسعة تعد واحدة من أكبر مرافق الحمامات في المدينة‪.‬‬ ‫يتميز فندق جميرا بتوفير مجموعة من المطاعم اللذيذة‪،‬‬ ‫أيضا‬ ‫والحظت أنها ال تستقطب فقط نزالء الفندق‪ ،‬بل يأتي ً‬ ‫زوار من خارجه لالستمتاع بتجربة تناول الطعام الراقية‪ .‬قمت‬ ‫بتجربة ثالثة من هذه المطاعم لتناول العشاء‪ ،Mare Mare :‬وهو‬ ‫مطعم إيطالي يقدم قائمة طعام متنوعة؛ ‪ ،Tean‬وهو مخصص‬ ‫للمأكوالت الشامية؛ ‪ White‬وهو مطعم يقدم وجبة اإلفطار (وقد‬ ‫واجهت هناك واحدة من أكبر تشكيالت الطعام التي رأيتها على‬ ‫بدءا من الفطائر الطازجة والمعجنات المقرمشة‪ ،‬إلى‬ ‫اإلطالق‪،‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫محطة توست األفوكادو المغرية ومجموعة متنوعة من اللحوم‬ ‫الباردة‪ ،‬مثل لحم البقر بريساوال والماكريل الفلفل المدخن‪.‬‬ ‫سأعود بالتأكيد مرة أخرى فقط لهذا!)‪ ،‬كما تتوفر بوفيهات‬ ‫لتناول وجبات الغداء والعشاء‪ .‬كانت جودة المكونات وتقديم‬ ‫الطعام جمي ًلا ومتسقً ا في جميع هذه المطاعم‪.‬‬ ‫علي أن أسلط الضوء على جانبين فقط‬ ‫ومع ذلك‪ ،‬إذا كان‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫في جميرا‪ ،‬فإنهما سيكونان الموظفون المدربون بشكل رائع‬ ‫والشاطئ المدهش‪ .‬أستطيع أن أعيش هناك! المياه النقية‬ ‫والرمال البيضاء الناعمة وكراسي التشمس المريحة وتوفير‬ ‫المياه المنعشة في مبردات صغيرة ستكون كافية إلبقائي‬ ‫سعيدة لعدة أيام‪.‬‬

The eatery is located at Mamsha al Saadiyat and has impressive colourful décor with arches in the ceiling covered with vine-style branches and chandeliers, where pinkish faux grapes embrace the light bulbs. The walls are covered with delicate flowered wallpaper, while the blue and pink counter and chairs and white tiled walls give a cohesive effect to the whole layout. Lively and absolutely stunning ambience. I am glad we were in a group, and we got to try a variety of sharing dishes. Hummus, tabbouleh, moutabal, olives, fattoush, kibbeh nayyeh (raw meat with spices served in a ball shape) and my favourite, Maltouteh – cured yoghurt, thyme, pistachios, fried olives, dried cranberries, hazelnuts, walnuts and mint, mixed with soft bread, it was a mouthful of soft and crunchy textures with a unique explosion of flavours. We also had Sawda, a popular chicken liver dish that at Beirut Sur Mer is sautéed and made with the restaurant’s special fig salsa with molasses. The other meat option was the Basha Bil Karaz composed of grilled kofta on a cherry chutney salsa. The perfect marriage of ingredients is definitely a strong trait in this restaurant and what makes this place a must-try. The sweets were Kunafa, with its stretchy cheese filling and semolina dough, accompanied by Pashmak, the Middle Eastern cotton candy; Millefuille Beiruty made with crispy phyllo dough and clotted cream; and, the best of them all, Halawat El Jibin or sweet cheese rolls, it was my first time trying them, and they were not overly sweet with a soft texture and a touch of pistachio crunchiness. For French cuisine enthusiasts, La Salle, located at Saadiyat Beach Club, offers a highend experience. The menu also includes Italian and Spanish staples for a sophisticated Mediterranean feast. We had a delightful lunch at this eatery. Our starters were Arancini, the popular fried rice balls filled with cheese that at La Salle have a Sicilian influence with saffron. They were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, yum! The Crevette Pil Pil is a simple Spanish dish composed of Carabinero prawns and smoked Pil Pil sauce (made with garlic and chilli infused in hot olive oil). However, the star appetiser was the Aubergine à la Parmesane with layers of aubergine, ricotta, cheese and tomato sauce – a creamy combination that melted in my mouth, absolutely delicious! My main course was Le Risotto Acquarello, my go-to comfort food, made with mushrooms, truffle oil, pecorino foam and peas. The risotto rice was cooked to perfection and the right amount of truffle oil was added for a beautiful spoonful. The texture was velvety and the flavours were spot on. Things to Do So, as you can see, Saadiyat Island is the perfect destination for a resort-like holiday and excellent food. However, that’s not even the best part: the unique cultural district is home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Abrahamic Family House and Manarat Al Saadiyat, offering exciting artistic expressions and an educational vision. With more to come, such as the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opening in 2025. ‫أعتقد أن واحدة من أفضل الوجهات الكتشاف مجموعة متنوعة‬ ‫من المطاعم هي ممشى السعديات‪ .‬ذهبنا هناك في نزهة‬ ‫مش ًيا على األقدام الستكشاف هذا المجتمع المدهش المطل‬ ‫على البحر‪ ،‬وتناولنا وجبة الغداء في مطعم يمكنني بثقة القول‬ ‫بأنه أفضل تجربة لتناول المأكوالت اللبنانية التي قمت بها في‬ ‫حياتي‪.Beirut Sur Mer :‬‬ ‫يقع هذا المطعم في ممشى السعديات‪ ،‬ويتميز بديكور‬ ‫رائع وملون يشد االنتباه‪ ،‬حيث يتميز السقف بأقواس جميلة‬ ‫مغطاة بأغصان وثريات على هيئة كروم‪ ،‬حيث يحتضن العنب‬ ‫الصناعي الوردي المصابيح الكهربائية‪ .‬الجدران مغطاة بورق‬ ‫حائط ذو طبعات زهور رقيقة‪ ،‬بينما تضفي الطاوالت والكراسي‬ ‫باأللوان الزرقاء والوردية‪ ،‬والجدران المكسوة بالبالط األبيض‪،‬‬ ‫تأثي ًرا متكام ً‬ ‫ال على التصميم العام‪ .‬إنها أجواء حيوية ومدهشة‬ ‫بشكل ال يصدق‪.‬‬ ‫أشعر بالسعادة ألننا كنا في مجموعة‪ ،‬وتمكنا من تجربة تشكيلة‬ ‫متنوعة من األطباق المشتركة‪ .‬قمنا بتذوق الحمص‪ ،‬التبولة‪،‬‬ ‫المتبل‪ ،‬الزيتون‪ ،‬الفتوش‪ ،‬وكذلك كبة نية (وهي كرة من اللحم‬ ‫النيء المتبلة بالتوابل)‪ .‬باإلضافة إلى ذلك‪ ،‬قمنا بتناول الملتوتة‬ ‫لدي‪ ،‬والتي تتكون من زبادي مقدد ممزوج بالزعتر‬ ‫المفضلة‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫والفستق والزيتون المقلي والتوت البري المجفف والبندق والجوز‬ ‫والنعناع‪ ،‬وتقدم مع خبز طري‪ .‬كانت هذه األطباق مثالية‪ ،‬حيث‬ ‫جمعت بين القوام الناعم والمقرمش‪ ،‬وأضفت نكهات فريدة‬ ‫ومتنوعة تنفجر في الفم‪.‬‬ ‫أيضا بتجربة طبق "السودا" أو كبدة الدجاج‪ ،‬وهو طبق‬ ‫تمتعنا ً‬ ‫مشهور في مطعم ‪ Beirut Sur Mer‬ويتكون من كبدة الدجاج‬ ‫المقلية‪ ،‬و ُيقدم مع صلصة التين الخاصة بالمطعم ودبس‬ ‫أيضا خيار آخر من اللحوم وهو باشا بالكرز‪،‬‬ ‫الرمان‪ .‬وكان لدينا ً‬ ‫والذي يتكون من الكفتة المشوية مع صلصة الكرز‪ .‬إن التوازن‬ ‫المثالي بين المكونات هو بال شك ميزة قوية في هذا المطعم‬ ‫وما يميز هذا المكان كوجهة ال يمكن تفويتها‪.‬‬ ‫كانت الحلويات عبارة عن كنافة‪ ،‬مع حشوة الجبن المطاطية‬ ‫وعجين السميد‪ ،‬مصحوبة بالباشماك‪ ،‬حلوى القطن الشرق‬ ‫أوسطية‪ Millefuille Beiruty .‬مصنوع من عجينة الفيلو المقرمشة‬ ‫والكريمة المتخثرة‪ .‬وأفضلها جميعا‪ ،‬حالوة الجبن أو لفائف‬ ‫الجبن الحلو‪ ،‬كانت المرة األولى التي أجربها فيها‪ ،‬ولم تكن حلوة‬ ‫بشكل مفرط مع قوام ناعم ولمسة من الفستق المقرمش‪.‬‬ ‫لمحبي المطبخ الفرنسي‪ ،‬يقدم مطعم ‪ ،La Salle‬الموجود‬ ‫في نادي شاطئ السعديات‪ ،‬تجربة فاخرة‪ .‬إلى جانب ذلك‪،‬‬ ‫أيضا المأكوالت اإليطالية واإلسبانية األساسية‬ ‫تشمل قائمته‬ ‫ً‬ ‫لتقديم تجربة راقية تعبر عن مطبخ البحر األبيض المتوسط‪.‬‬ ‫قمنا بتناول غداء شهي في هذا المطعم‪ .‬بدأت المقبالت بـ‬ ‫‪ ،Arancini‬وهي كرات األرز المقلية المشهورة المحشوة بالجبن‬ ‫والتي تأتي بتأثير صقيلي مع إضافة الزعفران في ‪.La Salle‬‬ ‫كانت مقرمشة من الخارج‪ ،‬لذيذة ودسمة من الداخل‪ ،‬ببساطة‬ ‫رائعة! أما ‪ ،Crevette Pil Pil‬فهو طبق إسباني بسيط يتكون من‬ ‫روبيان كارابينيرو وصلصة ‪ Pil Pil‬المدخنة‪ ،‬والتي تتكون من‬ ‫الثوم والفلفل الحار الممزوج بزيت الزيتون الساخن‪ .‬ومع ذلك‪،‬‬ ‫كانت المقبالت المميزة هي الباذنجان بالبارميزان‪ ،‬حيث تتكون‬ ‫من طبقات من الباذنجان‪ ،‬الريكوتا‪ ،‬الجبن وصلصة الطماطم ‪-‬‬ ‫مزيج كريمي يذوب في الفم‪ ،‬لذيذ للغاية! أما طبقي الرئيسي‪،‬‬ ‫فكان الـ ‪ ،Risotto Acquarello‬وهو طبق يتكون من الفطر وزيت‬ ‫الكمأ وزبد البيكورينو والبازالء‪ .‬تم طهي الريزوتو بشكل مثالي‬ ‫وأضيفت الكمية المناسبة من زيت الكمأ لتحقيق توازن مثالي‬ ‫من النكهات‪.‬‬

It was not my first time, but I can say that‬‬ ‫‪this visit was way more interesting.‬‬ ‫‪The Abrahamic Family House is a centre that‬‬ ‫‪promotes dialogue and knowledge exchange‬‬ ‫‪with peaceful coexistence at its core. Designed‬‬ ‫‪by well-known Ghanaian-British architect‬‬ ‫‪David Adjaye, it consists of a church, a‬‬ ‫‪mosque and a synagogue. The three houses of‬‬ ‫‪worship are the same size, but each carries their‬‬ ‫‪unique symbols in the architecture. There is an‬‬ ‫‪exhibit that showcases videos of the different‬‬ ‫‪expressions of faith; they touched me more‬‬ ‫‪than I expected and left me with a deep sense‬‬ ‫‪of reflection.‬‬ ‫‪Manarat Al Saadiyat is a contemporary space‬‬ ‫‪that's home to exhibitions, events, workshops‬‬ ‫‪and an art studio – an ample area where art and‬‬ ‫‪its expressions are celebrated.‬‬ ‫‪If a cultural scene is not what you are looking‬‬ ‫‪for, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club offers a fun‬‬ ‫‪experience for those who want to learn the‬‬ ‫‪game or for old hands who wish to play on‬‬ ‫‪the club’s 18-hole course or driving range. Our‬‬ ‫‪little entourage was invited for a session with‬‬ ‫‪Matt, one of the golf coaches. Well-humoured,‬‬ ‫‪he asked us to hit the little ball with the club‬‬ ‫‪giving our best performance. He then gave‬‬ ‫‪us some tips and, to my surprise, the simple‬‬ ‫‪technique he asked us to use made a big‬‬ ‫‪difference. I actually hit the ball with enough‬‬ ‫‪strength to make it roll away. adag experienced the enchanting city of Istanbul thanks to a first-class collaboration between Turkish Airlines and the five-star Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul. A magical three-day and two-night experience is what awaited us, along with all the fine dining and exotic urban adventure we could have hoped for. Turkish Airlines Travelling business class with the renowned Turkish Airlines proved nothing less than exceptional. Along with the professional and hassle-free nature of the check-in and boarding experiences, the flight itself was exactly as we would want it to be. We took full advantage of the option to screen off our space and settle down on the lie-flat seats – they open into a 188cm bed, with pillow and blanket provided – and with lip balm, ear plugs, eye mask and fluffy socks from the amenity kit, we were soon snoozing gently. We awoke to be presented with a delicious meal, flying chefs ensure Turkish Airlines’ Business Class passengers enjoy the finest quality international cuisines and beverages, all served on posh tableware. It’s as if your holiday starts in the sky. For the rest of the journey, we made the most of the comprehensive in-flight entertainment options to catch up with the latest films before our smooth landing in Istanbul. Our Arrival Collected from the airport by the hotel’s concierge service, we meandered our way through the bustling streets of Istanbul, catching glimpses of the city’s grand architecture en route. From mosques to museums, from boutiques to bazaars, this enthralling destination has it all. The captivating combination of the sights, sounds and smells emanating from this vibrant location beckoned us to explore this historic metropolis and all the treasures held within. The Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul As soon as our feet touched the ground beneath the multi-award-winning hotel’s portico, we were welcomed by the smiling faces of staff who ensured, from that moment, we wanted for nothing throughout our stay. The quick and cheerful booking process meant we were escorted to our rooms within five minutes of entering the lobby. En route, we took in the impressive makeup of this grand hotel, the design and layout of which was inspired by its Asian roots. From exquisite marble floors and walls to grand chandeliers and lavish decorative touches, we often felt we were in the fictional Shangri-La kingdom itself. The Rooms The hotel generously provided us with one of their Premier Bosphorus Rooms. As soon as the door opened, we knew we would be more than comfortable for the duration of the visit. 86

What we noticed first about the 60sq/m room was the stunning views of the city and the Bosphorus Strait, compliments of the floor-toceiling windows. Shifting our attention to the room’s amenities, we were impressed by the spacious nature of the layout. All furnishings were modern and of superb quality, accentuated by soothing colour tones and plush fabrics. Most impressive was the marble-clad master bathroom, complete with a rain shower, heated floors and a mirrorembedded television. Perhaps the most important feature was the generously sized bed that proved to be both supportive and comfortable. We had absolutely no problem nodding off to sleep during our stay. After settling in, we were given a private tour of the hotel, including a glimpse of the various other rooms on offer. Consisting of 163 guest rooms and 23 suites, the property provides luxurious accommodations to suit all guests’ preferences, with all options sure to impress even the most discerning hotel critics. Fine Dining The Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul houses a few high-end culinary venues. Over the course of our stay, we got to dine at these various spots, savouring every minute of our experience. IST TOO During our three days at the hotel, we feasted several times at IST TOO, a venue offering an array of international dishes. Lucky enough to sample both breakfast and lunchtime menus, we were hugely impressed by the assortment of Mediterranean, Southeast Asian, Turkish and Japanese dishes on offer. We partook in the Turkish breakfast and the extensive à la carte lunch menu. From the caviar to the extensive meat, seafood and sushi options, we loved it all and almost certainly gained a pound or two. Shang Palace The Shang Palace is an exceptional dining venue serving authentic Chinese-Cantonese dishes. Headed up by Michelin-starred Chef Gordon Leung, we were fortunate to enjoy not one but two unforgettable dining occasions. First was the 10th-anniversary menu created and prepared by the great Gordon himself. Comprising of several East Asian-inspired courses, we banqueted for several joyful hours before rolling back to our rooms. The second experience came in two parts. It began with a morning tour of the Beşiktaş Bazaar Fish Market, led by the Executive Chef. All present selected several items, including whole fresh fish and various types of seafood. The hotel took care of our selections and, at lunchtime, Chef Gordon prepared these purchases to perfection, complementing them with several mouth-watering sides. Quick Must Mentions In addition to all the exceptional meals at the hotel, we also savoured sunset drinks on the Shangri-La suite terrace, enjoyed a Pinktober Afternoon Tea Experience at the Lobby Lounge, and were fortunate enough to partake in a Sunset Yacht Cruise along the Bosphorus, with scrumptious pass-around delicacies on board. 88

Hotel Amenities Our before-mentioned private tour also revealed the numerous first-class amenities within the hotel. Along with the two impressive ballrooms and nine versatile conference and function rooms is the Health Club. This venue offers a full range of exercise and recreation facilities that include an indoor heated swimming pool, a hot whirlpool and a state-ofthe-art gymnasium. Chi, The Spa One of the most memorable moments of our stay was the pampering we received at Chi, Shangri-La’s in-house spa. In this tranquil environment, patrons receive treatments designed to “indulge the senses, soothe the body, and revitalise the spirit”. I opted for the Turkish Hamman treatment that included the ritual of a Turkish bath and a traditional stimulating body scrub. A stressrelieving full-body foam massage, along with refreshing water therapy, a hair wash and a body moisturisation with milk and honey, were also part of this sublime experience. Ideal Location Thanks to the hotel’s perfect location, we could easily access the most sought-after destinations in Istanbul. Amongst our many mini-city adventures was a ferry ride to the Asian side of the city. Positioned across from the hotel, the ferry station offered direct passage to the east of Istanbul, where we gratefully explored all the historical, recreational and shopping locations.

f there were an award for most magnificent hotel entrance in the world, in my opinion, The St. Regis Doha would surely be a contender. I never fail to be wowed by its pure spectacle – and as we glide past the towering oryx and ascend the grand, sweeping drive – this evening proves to be no different. Tonight, we’re en route to Astor Grill, where we’ll be sampling their new dishes. Taste buds at the ready, we step into the majestic lobby, pivot left and get ready to find out more. Astor Grill is a truly classy wilderness. Imagine Inca-patterned walls, terracotta pots overflowing with backlit greenery, dancing flames and a bold, zigzag-striped floor. And that’s only the entrance. We’re led deeper inside, past the chilled cabinet of aged meat and the open kitchen that sparkles with copper cookware, until we reach probably the most perfectly designed restaurant ever. Dark hues of mahogany and roasted coffee are interspersed with lusciously leafy plants; they sprout all around and trail lazily from above. Low-level woven screens ensure that no one feels overlooked, yet every cosy corner is still a part of this buzzy and convivial restaurant. Executive Chef Motaz Zayed’s reimagined menu is as unique as the décor, while adhering to the elements of Astor Grill: dry-aged, smoked and steak. We’re served by the wonderful Rashid, who begins with an amuse bouche that encapsulates these elements in one delicious mouthful. It’s a vol-au-vent – a dainty cube of pastry filled with smoked burrata and dry-aged beef. Next, it’s a quartet of mini brioches with the smokiest, silkiest pickled aubergine mash. Both dishes are delicious. There’s a swathe of intriguing and imaginative starters, so diverse that there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. The Astor Salad harks back to a classic Caesar but with smoked duck breast and asparagus, featuring a mini iceberg lettuce redolent of coal. (Trust me. It works.) The Fried Wagu Wontons are so crispy, filled with minced beef and served with a barbecued soy and sesame sauce dotted with dried nori and edamame. They’re crunchy and soft and incredibly flavoursome. Meanwhile, I would seriously travel the length of Qatar for the Seabass Ceviche, which is served with wasabi leaves and horseradish aioli. But there’s also the Warm Octopus Carpaccio made with octopus rings, a constellation of chives, pickled peppers, micro leaves, blackened croutons and smoked aubergine tartare finish the dish. Senior mixologist Kev brings an Astor Mule mocktail in a glistening copper mug, where cinnamon and mint burst out of a heap of crushed ice. The drink arrives in a French press, which he plunges before pouring over the ice. The beverage is created using lime juice, ginger, spices, bay leaves and brown sugar and is highly recommended. And there are many more showstoppers to choose from. I can’t think of a better way of showcasing Astor Grill’s beloved Josper charcoal oven than the mains on skewers. the melt-in-the-mouth Wagyu Ribeye, each is a masterpiece. A selection of sauces is the perfect accompaniment. The Astor sauce is piquant and delicious, while I simply adore the Roquefort with its depth of flavour and unbelievable unctuousness. Special mention must go to the bubbling Corn, Spinach Parmigiano Gratin, Broccoli and Mushroom Pot. And what is a steak without perfectly cooked and seasoned hand-cut French fries? There’s no need to wonder because they’re on the menu too. Executive Chef Motaz Zayed explains that “elements of fire, wood and charcoal” feature throughout his menu. He’s obviously very proud of the theme and so he should be. While these elements provide a rich seam of flavour, they never overwhelm. Desserts arrive in a bubbling mist of dry ice. Profiterole Noir juxtaposes smoky choux pastry with citrussy orange yoghurt ice cream in a new and entirely Astor-tastic way. Charcoaled Cheese Cake continues the theme. The Coffee Explosion is pure theatre – when coffee cremeux is poured through a chocolate lid, a seething swirl of grilled hazelnut biscuit and espresso ganache is created below. reece is the country that I have visited the most. The proximity to Bahrain and diverse scenarios such as paradisiac islands and magical mountainous areas make this country a place to explore over many trips. However, if you want to taste Greece without leaving Bahrain, the newly opened Yamaz restaurant at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa will take you there. Chef Nikolaos Koulousias is the maestro of the culinary experience at this authentic Mediterranean-Greek cuisine destination. In his words, what makes his menu so special is that he uses fresh local ingredients and makes them authentically Greek. Yamaz is located below Maison Sushi and underwent a major transformation to resemble a laid-back restaurant by the Mediterranean Sea. In this case, the vast Arabian Gulf is what you see from your table. The décor is full of natural elements in tones of blue and sand that take over cushions, chairs and lamps – tastefully designed to make you feel welcomed. The ample space is covered by retractable glass doors and ceilings that can be closed in summer or left open during nice weather for a delightful dinner under the stars, with the sound of the ocean and Greek tunes – most definitely the place to be during sunset. The restaurant is gorgeous, but we went there with one mission: to eat! The first dishes to reach our table were various cold and hot starters prepared with multiple techniques. In the hands of Chef Nikolaos, the Greek Salad comes with compressed tomato juice and capers (traditionally added in his hometown in Leros), organic feta cheese and oregano. The Yamaz salad is one of the signature dishes and comes with crunchy mixed leaves, honey dressing, sweet fresh figs and smoked halloumi (smoked in-house for 48 hours), a combination of flavours that takes you to Greece with a twist. There is a section on the menu called Crudos (raw). From that, we had the Ceviche Tsipoyra, thinly sliced seabream marinated in lemon, stacked with mango carpaccio and adorned with passion fruit – an unexpected mix which was super refreshing with an exotic touch – and the Lepto Mosxari, thinly sliced beef, truffle paste, rocket leaves and kefalotyri cheese. The presentation is crucial, as the ingredients are layered so you get them all in one spoonful. The hot starters arrived. Perfectly fried calamari, baby squid and seaweed accompanied by garlic and lemon aioli, a favourite of the table, as we kept chatting and returning for more. The Arni Crochetta, two pieces of slow-braised lamb croquette with feta fondue, pecorino cheese and smoked paprika. A clever addition to this dish is the subtle tanginess of lemon and orange zest in the breadcrumbs encasing the soft interior; a small detail can transform a dish. However, the best was the Troyfopita, a phyllo pastry stuffed with organic feta cheese, black truffle and honey glaze. This dish combines Hadag Magazine

Greek staples that I adore: flaky pastry, highquality feta, delicate sweetness from honey and the earthiness of truffles – love at first bite! After a show-stopping start, it was time for mains. We tried Xtapodi, octopus cooked to perfection, accompanied by white beans, celeriac purée and lemon potato, which was set on fire in front of us to add a grilled and smoked flavour, divine! For meat lovers, Filetto Mosxari was a succulent piece of beef tenderloin that went very well with fried polenta sticks, olives and tomato confit. The traditional Mussaka, the Greek ‘lasagna’, prepared with layers of minced meat, zucchini, potatoes and eggplant topped with a smooth bechamel sauce is a comforting dish for many and was done to perfection. From the mains, my highlight goes to Kritharotto made with orzo and seasonal seafood that’s saffron and orange scented. Chef Nikolaos said this is a recipe from his grandmother, a one pot dish created with love. It is very creamy with hints of tomato and mint, with each seafood element cooked at its best and a beautiful citrus flavour. The desserts were made not only for our stomachs but also for our eyes. The Portokalopita is a traditional orange semolina cake topped with frozen Greek yoghurt Chantilly and orange jelly; very dense with a robust orange flavour, perfect to be eaten with a cup of coffee. The Mykonos Karavi is a funlooking chocolate concoction – a chocolate boat filled with all sorts of chocolate recipes, from mousses to sponges balanced with hazelnut. And the last and everyone’s favourite, The Athens Castle, a reinterpretation of one of the simplest and yummiest desserts in the world: Greek yoghurt and honey. At Yamaz, it comes as a Greek frozen yoghurt with honey and a surprise interior of poached apple – an ingenious dessert and the perfect end to this Greek feast. I can say that Chef Nikolaos' creations took me to Greece, with flavours I recognised in a heartbeat. However, they were so wellreinterpreted that they became something completely new and unique.
