NGUBANE’S NOMA ASHOM RECEIVES JUDGES COMMENDATION – WOMAN PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

38

Noma Ashom, Managing Director of national audit and assurance firm Ngubane & Co., has received special recognition for her contribution to the South African professional services industry. The Special Commendation in the Woman Professional of the Year category was granted by the SA Professional Services Awards sponsored by Sanlam and W. Consulting. Noma was further recognised as a finalist in the Professional of the Year Award in the Accounting Class of the Commerce, Law and Management Category. Noma obtained her B.Com degree from University of KwaZulu-Natal before joining PwC.

“While at PwC I gained enormous experience in the mining division where together with my mentor developed the training champion programme to help trainees who were not performing well.” In 2010, she was seconded to work at PwC Lagos, Nigeria for three years and on her return joined SASOL’s oil technical division. She joined Ngubane & Co. in 2017 after spending a few years running her own accounting practice. “We were impressed that Noma is the Deputy Chairperson of the South African Auditing Profession Trust Initiative which is a voluntary committee established by the audit profession to

identify proactive responses to concerns about the audit profession in light of a number of recent audit failures. This is indicative of a desire to contribute to her profession” the judges said. “She is further a voice in the business community demonstrated by writing for publications such as Business Report. In addition, we liked Noma’s leadership philosophy of meeting with the team to agree on deliverables and holding each other accountable thereafter.” In accepting the Award, Noma thanked her husband and her children for their love and support as well as her colleagues at Ngubane & Co.

“I would also like to thank all other colleagues within the profession that I engage with everyday. If it wasn’t for the struggles that we deal with, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I urge us within the profession to keep doing the best that we can with the opportunities that have been given to us.”
