We Join the Arizona Boycott
Nos Unimos al Boicot de Arizona
On May 6, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) joined with the Asian American Justice Center (AAJC), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC), and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to announce a boycott against the state of Arizona in protest of SB 1070.
El 6 de mayo, el Asian American Justice Center (AAJC), el Service Employees International Union (SEIU), el United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), el Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC), y la League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) se unieron al National Council of La Raza (NCLR) para anunciar un boicot en contra del estado de Arizona en protesta por la ley SB 1070.
This new law basically accepts the use of racial profiling by the police as a way of dealing with immigration issues.
Esta nueva ley básicamente acepta el uso del perfil racial por parte de la policía como forma de tratar asuntos de inmigración.
Under a banner reading “Boycott Intolerance”, the groups reported SB 1070 and asked not to be carried out conventions, conferences and other special events that involve significant travel to Arizona, and called on others - including community organizations, corporations, unions, churches, student groups and ordinary citizens to consider whether the purchases of goods and services that could help to perpetuate the unjust and discriminatory law of Arizona.
Bajo una pancarta que lee “Boycott Intolerance”, los grupos denunciaron la ley SB 1070 y pidieron que no se lleven a cabo convenciones, conferencias y otros eventos especiales importantes que impliquen viajar a Arizona, y pidieron a otros – incluyendo a las organizaciones comunitarias, corporaciones, sindicatos, iglesias, grupos de estudiantes y ciudadanos comunes – que consideren si las compras de bienes y servicios que hacen podrían ayudar a perpetuar la injusta y discriminatoria ley de Arizona.
