Social & Environmental Responsibility Highlights In 2023, we donated $281,894 Giving back, both locally and globally, is important to us. This total also includes our annual Trees for Schools Program whereby we donate seedlings and wildflower seed packs to Ontario elementary schools in celebration of Earth Day. This year we supported several offset projects including the protection of peatlands in Indonesia, water filtration systems in Mozambique, Biogas as a renewable energy source in Kenya, and Indigenous led forest management in British Columbia, Canada. The cumulative reduction totals at 2,469.1 Mt CO2e.

The Idea Lab Our Product Development Team works with a group of educators across North America, to help uncover great ideas and turn them into new products! To achieve this goal, we have to understand the needs of educators, right down to the smallest detail. Our Idea Lab is a crucial part of that effort. Idea Lab Masterminds have a special account with Copernicus and for every interaction they have with our design team, they earn credits. The amount of credit earned depends of the type of interaction: online survey, email, phone interview, school visit, focus group, prototype test, etc.

Solid bamboo: Strong, durable, beautiful and renewable The planet is in a climate crisis, so reducing the environmental impact of our products is crucial. Bamboo products are a more sustainable choice than metal models because they have a smaller carbon footprint. Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows quickly and sequesters carbon, unlike metal which produces carbon.
What does ‘sequesters carbon’ mean? Carbon sequestration is the capturing, removal and storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the earth’s atmosphere. It’s recognized as a key method for removing carbon from the earth’s atmosphere.

Our Bamboo Book Browser Cart produces 32% less carbon than the metal equivalent. This means 12.48 kg of CO2e is saved every time a bamboo cart is purchased over a metal alternative, which is equivalent to saving 31 miles or 49.9 km driving an average gasoline passenger vehicle.
By making our products from more sustainable materials, like bamboo, we are contributing to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal #12, called Responsible Consumption and Production Patterns.

Our finish is a nitrocellulose lacquer. Lacquers are a popular finish type for furniture, and the preferred choice of professional furniture makers.
Unlike trees which take years to grow, bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource. This year, we’re also ensuring that any new bamboo we source is from only FSC certified suppliers.
