Ari Eisinger is one of the most dazzling country blues and ragtime guitarists playing today. Listen to his astonishing performances of the music of Blind Blake and you will hear things no guitar player has managed to pull off since Blake himself disappeared in the early 1930s. He can shift effortlessly from complex East Coast ragtime to the propulsive rhythm of the guitar evangelists to down-home Texas country blues. See for yourself at www.secondmind.com. Young Philadelphia songstress Gina Sicilia exploded onto the scene in 2007, as her debut CD was met with joyous acclaim by fans and critics alike. She was heralded as a distinctive new voice in the Blues, as well as an insightful songwriter and interpreter of neglected classics in the Rhythm & Blues canon. Their journey to discern who these people were and how they came to be buried on their Main Line property reveals that it is never too late to confront family secrets. And, with these bones are more secrets than the sisters could have dreamed: murder, affairs, blackmail and international treasures. The Main Line has a rich history and a picturesque landscape, attracting Philadelphia’s elite. It provides the perfect setting for Clement’s mystery series. This novel follows Main Liners: Legacy of Deceit, published in 2009 and Main Liners: The Blue Fahua, published in November 2010. Clement retired from Villanova University in 2008 to begin her career writing novels nestled among the old affluent families of the Main Line. It is from this inside view that she crafts her mystery series complete with romance, deception, money, and family connections. Previously, Ms. Clement was an executive with Leslie Fay Inc., a multi-faceted fashion company; an intelligence officer for the U.S. government; and a syndicated columnist for the Newhouse National News Service and Chicago Sun Times/Daily News Wire Service. Cole Porter Program at Neumann University ill Messenger will present a program entitled Cole Porter: America’s Most Sophisticated Songwriter on Thursday, April 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bruder Life Center at Neumann University. The afternoon of lively music and witty asides will explore the details of Cole Porter’s stranger-than-fiction life. Porter was an American composer and songwriter. Born to a wealthy family in Indiana, he defied the wishes of his domineering grandfather and took up music as a profession. Classically trained, he was drawn towards musical theatre. Many consider his pieces to be some of the most sophisticated and melodic ever written for the American theater. Bill Messenger studied musical composition on scholarship at the Peabody Conser vatory under Louis Cheslock and attended a master class with Nadia Boulanger, teacher of Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. He earned two master degrees from John Hopkins University and has published several books. Messenger has accompanied many legendary performers, including Lou Rawls, Bill Haley and the Comets, and Cass Elliot. The program is part of the 2012-13 Cultural Arts Forum season. For 37 years, the group has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarship named in honor of the founder of the Forum, Margaret Mary Kearney. Since its founding in 1970, the Forum has presented more than 240 events and seminars. General admission is $7. The program is free for Cultural Arts Forum members and Neumann University students with ID. Performance will be held in the Fred P. Meagher Theatre in the campus Life Center. Philly Hadassah Adds Touch of Humor to Annual Education Day adassah of Greater Philadelphia will hold its 20th annual Education Day, “No Laughing Matter – The Healing Power of Jewish Humor,” April 17 at Meadowlands Country Club in Blue Bell, PA. Studies have shown that laughter, just like exercise, can reduce stress, improve tolerance to pain, and alter bodily functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, muscle activity, and stomach acidity. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins and serotonin, the “feel-good hormones” that create feelings of euphoria and happiness. Panelists for the event are: • Yisrael Campbell (formerly Christopher Campbell), a Philadelphia-born Israeli comedian. • Emilie Passow, Ph.D., Associate Teaching Professor, Judaic Studies Program; Co-Director, Certificate Program in Humanities, Medical Sciences and Society, Drexel University; visiting lecturer in medical humanities, Thomas Jefferson Medical College. • Joel Schwartz, M.D., speaker and author, The Stress Less Shrink; Chairman Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry, Abington Memorial Hospital. Barbara Goldstein (fondly referred to as “BG”), Deputy Director of Hadassah Offices in Israel, will make a special guest appearance. “While Hadassah takes its commitment to healing very seriously,” said Roz Holberg, President of Hadassah of Greater Philadelphia, “the organization also has a lighter side, as evidenced by its Medical Clown Program, the first of its kind in Israel, which puts smiles on the faces of its pediatric patients.” When Hadassah’s Department of Pediatrics adopted an Ethiopian orphanage and introduced an anti-HIV therapy there, the medical clowns were an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Hadassah’s clowns flew to Thailand in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami and to Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake. The Philadelphia-area event is sponsored to honor the memory of Linda Cohen of the Miriam’s Well Group of Hadassah. Tickets are $45 per person for Hadassah members and $55 per person for non-members, and include continental breakfast, all activities and materials for the day, and a buffet lunch. For registration and information, contact Elissa Smiley at esmiley@hadassah.org or 215732-7100.

Improve Your Health at King of Prussia Mall Mall Partners with the Arthritis Foundation to Offer Complimentary Walking Program hysical activity is one of the most important routines to maintain in order to remain healthy, alert and strong throughout the years. King of Prussia Mall, in partnership with the Arthritis Foundation, a leading health organization addressing the needs of those with arthritis, will offer Walk With Ease, a structured walking program that teaches those who are currently looking for relief from arthritis pain, or just want to be active, how to safely integrate exercise into their everyday activities. Beginning on Monday, April 8, 2013 and running through Wednesday, May 15, 2013, Walk With Ease will offer support, information and tools to help participants develop successful exercise routines. Within the program, individuals can choose to participate either on their own with the help of a workbook or join others in a six-week group series led by a certified leader. The one-hour class will meet every Monday and Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the lower level of The Pavilion. There is no charge to participate in Walk with Ease. “Research shows that walking is not only good for joints, but also helps improve the health of the heart, lungs and bones,” said Danielle Stephens, Director of Programs of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. “Walking can also help manage weight, which can reduce one’s risk for arthritis in the knee, heart disease and diabetes.” The information and strategies taught in the Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program are based on research and tested programs in exercise science, behavior change and arthritis management. Updated and evaluated by the Thurston Arthritis Research Center and the Institute on Aging of the University of North Carolina, Walk With Ease is shown to increase balance, strength and walking pace, as well as reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis. The program will teach proper stretching and pain management techniques, help build stamina and walking pace, and create modified exercise routines to meet the unique goals of each individual. “King of Prussia Mall is looking forward to working with the Arthritis Foundation to help increase awareness in our community about the importance of remaining physically active,” said King of Prussia Mall Marketing Director Kathy Smith. “We hope that members of our community take advantage of this healthy and free amenity being offered.” Those interested in participating in the Walk with Ease program are asked to pre-register atwww.walkwitheasekop.kintera.org or by calling 484-947-7315 by Friday, April 5, 2013.

With the exciting addition of live entertainment to this year’s fundraiser, the evening proved to be filled with delicious Irish fare, music, dancing, and, of course, lots of bidding! Its curriculum stresses mercy spirituality, global awareness, and social responsibility. Catherine McAuley is the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy. hiladelphia’s Inis Nua Theatre Company will present the world premiere of “The Hand of Gaul” by Jared Michael Delaney, running April 9 - 28 at the Off-Broad Street Theater in the First Baptist Church (1636 Sansom Street).“The Hand of Gaul” is part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts 2013 (PIFA), which posed the question “if you had a time machine...where would you go?” Inis Nua’s answer is November 14, 2009, when Ireland was knocked out of 2010 World Cup competition by the unchecked foul of French superstar, Thierry Henry. Three fiercely proud (albeit not overly bright) Irish fans decide to avenge their team. This Inis Nua original takes on World Cup elimination and a nation’s pride as international intrigue, a rare Belgian beer and the world’s most popular sport come together in unexpected ways. Directed by Tom Reing and starring Adam Altman, Damon Bonetti, Jared Michael Delaney, and Harry Smith. Featuring Megan Bellwoar and Leonard Haas.

Inis Nua presents contemporary plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. When asked why he was drawn to create theatre around these cultures, Founder/Artistic Director Tom Reing said, “Because I love these cultures. I love their histories; but more importantly, I love what they are today and want to share that with audiences. It is the mixing of these cultures’ great traditions of storytelling with contemporary themes and times that I think stays with you.” Opening night is April 10 at 7 p.m., with a preview on April 9. “The Hand of Gaul” runs for 3 weeks, through April 28. hen a group of ARTsisters, professional local women artists committed to empowering each other and the community through their art, tried to participate in the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA), they were told it was too late to sign on even though it was almost a year before the Festival. Undeterred, they decided to launch an exhibit on a related theme at a parallel time and place and include themselves in this city-wide event! They did not take “No” for an answer. “Cherry Blossom Time” by Susan Stefanski. “It’s About Time,” an exhibit of paintings, mixed media art and works on paper focusing on time and the artist’s interpretation of it, opens on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Da Vinci Art Alliance, 704 Catharine St. in South Philadelphia, with an Artists’ Reception from 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibit runs until April 27. It is open Saturdays and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. and by appointment. Call 610-649-3174 to make arrangements. The Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts 2013 runs March 28 through April 27, 2013 and asks “If you had a time machine…” Would you explore events that changed our world? See moments where new ideas were born? Visit places where history was forever altered. Or blaze a trail into the future unknown? Artists create a moment of time on their canvas, piece of wood or paper. They create a scene, a vision, a fleeting moment, using the creative process. Perhaps the viewer is taken back to a specific time, a moment. Or maybe to the future? Come see the art of these formidable artists! For more information, go to www.artsisters.org. ARTsisters was founded in December 2005, by Linda Dubin Garfield who realized that her long-time friend and fellow artist Leslie DeBrocky functioned as more than a friend when it came to discussing and helping with her art. She was really an ARTsister, one who understood the process and could really understand the highs and lows involved with the challenges of a professional artist. Together they opened membership to other women and, through word of mouth, now have 24 members and an email list of more than 75 interested women artists. Sharing resources and offering support to each other, the members now have a schedule of shows, both individual and group, for the next few years, including shows in Rosemont, Devon, Philadelphia and Wilmington. Some of the non-profits they collaborate with include: Endow-A-Home, Philadelphia FIGHT, Juvenile Diabetes, The Cancer Support Community (formerly The Wellness Community of Philadelphia), The Food Trust, Child Advocates and Laurel House.
