Our very own Editor-in-Chief and co-founder of Asian Express, Andleeb Hanif took centre stage, sharing her advice with young people as part of the ongoing Role Models Series at the Hamara centre. The session begun with Andleeb highlighting that the main aim of the newspaper was to share news with the community and to give information on topical issues. Andleeb explained that her job is to make sure the paper produces lots of different exciting things to talk about every week. She also said news is information that you didn’t have, so catching
up with friends is also like the news. Then Andleeb shared her experiences growing up and how she loved to read and write, particularly writing ghost stories.She revealed that at the age of 13 she had even written her own book. As she grew older she got the opportunity to work for a mainstream newspaper in Bradford. But as part of her role she did not get the chance to write. Her dream was to provide good quality news with a focus on the communities. Around 12 years ago she met up with a business man who shared her vision of creating a newspaper designed for British Asians, and the rest as they say, is history.

Andleeb’s advice to parents was: “Support your children no matter what their dream is.” The advice to young people was: “If you enjoy doing something really, really go for it. Research the discipline of your passion and find out what it takes to go further and be inspired by others who have been successful. “Work with organisations like the Hamara Centre who can direct you towards the right people to support you.” Andleeb further inspired the youth by sharing with them the immense personalities she’d had the privilege to meet including Her Majesty the Queen, the Prime Minister, Amitabh Bachan, Shahruk Khan, Salmaan Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Kareena Kapoor and many many more.
