follow us on twitter: Bus lane cameras

New bus lane cameras are being introduced to help keep public transport moving in Bradford. Two new cameras will be situated on two bus new bus lanes created on Huddersfield Road, two more on existing bus lanes each side of the junction on the A650 at Saltaire, and one on Bridge Street, Bradford city centre. As well as the cameras, signs advertising the presence of cameras will be put up so drivers will be aware of that the bus lane is being monitored. Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Sustainability, said: "Dedicated bus lanes increase the reliability of bus services and speed up journey times, which encourages the use of public transport. "Cameras are the only realistic and cost-effective means of tackling those drivers who don't comply with the rules.”

Halloween walk

Families are being challenged to walk among the spirits that inhabit the dark recesses of Bolling Hall this Halloween. The scariest night of the year will be marked at one of Bradford’s oldest buildings with the annual Dark Gatherings: Hauntings In The Hall event on Thursday, 31 October. Visitors on the free tours, which have been organised by Bradford Council, will be able to meet some of the Hall’s former long dead tenants as they explore the dimly lit corridors, bed chambers and rooms. The ghostly tours will run on the hour from 6-10pm. Places are free but it is necessary to book in advance by calling 01274 431826 (Wednesday-Sunday) or email david.mcilroy@bradford.gov.uk The deadline for booking a place is Wednesday, 30 October at 3.30pm.

Ice art

A photograph of a beautiful, unique ice sculpture has been put on temporary display at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery. The artwork, by Andy Goldsworthy, shows layered triangular pieces of ice that are arranged in decreasing size in a sweeping abstract shape. The sculpture resembles a fish and the individual pieces of ice appear to be its scales or its skeleton. ‘Ice Fish’ (1987) will be on display in the Bradford Council-run museum until Thursday, 31 October. It is the latest in Cartwright Hall’s Picture In Focus series, which is a regularly changing painting, drawing or photograph taken from the fine art collection held by Bradford Museums and Galleries. BACK IN BUSINESS: Guests at the opening of the new establishment on Manningham Lane, Bradford

By Ashley Grint ashley@asianexpress.co.uk

Just three months after a devastating fire spread through a Bradford Supermarket, the local business has launched its latest venture in the form of Food-2-Go. Located on Manningham Lane, the new eatery is the latest extension of the Pakeezah Group and was officially opened on Friday 11th October with hundreds of guests in attendance. The £300,000 establishment was built to replace the Ingleby Road store, which remains closed for the foreseeable future. Fire had destroyed hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of stock and caused millions of pounds worth of damage to the store during the month of Ramadan. The new Food-2Go store offers the same wide range of authentic Asiancuisine and has already proved a big hit with its customers. “We have been established in Bradford for more than 40 years and so the public know what they are getting when they visit one of our stores,” Pakeezah Director, Mohammad Jamil explained. “The launch went really well and we have been really busy since

opening our doors with the public clearly delighted to be able to receive their Pakeezah food again. “My brother, Shamas-Ul-Haq, and I thought long and hard about the best way of officially announcing our opening. After contemplating a range of celebrities we decided there was only one person who truly fitted the bill and so our mother, Gazim Fatima, was selected to cut the ribbon.” He added: “She has been an integral part of the company since day one, and so we thought it was only fitting that she did the honours.” The Bradfordbased company was founded in 1967 by M a z a h r- U l - H a q with a small store in Undercliffe. From these humble beginnings, the company has witnessed a sub-stantial growth and has become one of Bradford’s most recognisable brands. The family-run business established itself as the city’s first ever Asian-purpose supermarket 17 years ago, and expanding into a range of stores. Despite the fire in Thornton causing the business a major setback in its trading, Mohammad Jamil explained how important it was to reopen as soon as possible to cater for the customers. “As soon as the fire hit the
