Exhibitions ‘Print Renaissance: Mid-century Masters of American Printmaking’ December 26 – March 15, 2020 The founding of new print studios in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s led to a resurgence of printmaking. As artists began working alongside skilled printmakers, lithographs and silkscreens grew increasingly popular as more affordable options for collecting original works. Artists, including Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Frank Stella, and Robert Rauschenberg, integrated printmaking into their artistic practices. This exhibition features these artists and more in a celebration of 20th-century masters of American printmaking. Visitors will learn about printmaking techniques and this important chapter in American art history. This exhibition is on loan from the CU Art Museum, University of Colorado Boulder. Location: Art & Heritage Center Regular Hours: Thursdays, 3 - 7 p.m. and Fridays - Sundays, Noon - 4 p.m. Age: All Cost: Free AHC Events Are Sponsored By

Active Adults Day Trips Buffalo Bill Cody Museum William F. Cody died in 1917 and was buried in Lookout Mountain Park. According to Mrs. Cody and other close friends, he had asked to be buried on the mountain overlooking the Great Plains where he had spent so much of his life. In 1921 Johnny Baker opened the Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum near the grave. The artifacts in the museum were items he had collected over the years and had been gathered from the many friends who had performed with him in the Wild West. Mrs. Cody also provided objects, although she died and was buried next to her husband shortly before the museum opened. The Buffalo Bill Museum features more than 3,000 square feet of exhibit space focusing on the life, times, and legacy of William “Buffalo Bill” Cody. Eighty percent of the space is devoted to permanent exhibits. These tell the story of Buffalo Bill and how his legacy developed. A temporary exhibit area offers a display every fall, thus providing a new look and new story for frequent visitors. Visitors are invited to tour at their own pace, enjoying videos and exploring the interactive exhibit areas. An introductory video provides an overview of Cody and a history of the museum and park. Capitol Building Tour Did you know the capitol building is made from Colorado rose onyx (also known as Beulah red marble), a type of stone so rare that all known reserves were used in the capitol’s construction? The Colorado rose onyx itself was quarried in the town of Beulah, Colo. And did you know the capitol’s original signature dome was made of copper, but was swapped out for gold in 1908 due to copper’s tendency to oxidize, creating a dull patina cover? The dome was plated with 200 ounces of glistening 24-karat gold leaf to commemorate Colorado’s Gold Rush and the brave pioneers and miners who helped build Colorado. Three reapplications of the Colorado gold leaf occurred between 1908 and 1980 — the most recent golden shine now comes from 65 ounces of .999 pure gold that was mined in Colorado, hammered into gold leaf in Florence, Italy, and applied in 2013. Join us on this tour and learn more great facts about our state’s capitol building and see our lawmakers “hard at work.” Registration Deadline: Friday prior Walking Level: Moderate Location: Denver; Meet in the lobby, Windsor CRC Age: 55+ F

Active Adults Day Trips ‘Ragtime the Musical’ at Boulder’s Dinner Theatre

Lee Maxwell’s Washing Machine Museum

At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing … and anything is possible. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together in “Ragtime”— that of a stifled upperclass wife, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a daring young Harlem musician — united by their courage, compassion, and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. Written by the award-winning composer / lyricist team Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (“Once on This Island,” “Seussical”), noted playwright Terrence McNally, and based on E.L. Doctorow’s distinguished novel, “Ragtime” is the winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Score, Book, and Orchestrations, and both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score. This acclaimed musical is filled with pageantry, emotion, and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical.

In 2000, Lee Maxwell was awarded the Guinness World Record for world’s largest washing machine collection. He stores most of it on his farm in a 20,000-square-foot building decorated to look like an antique laundromat. Maxwell’s impressive collection has more than 1,400 antique washing machines from as early as 1840. The retired electrical engineering professor from Colorado State University started the collection in 1985. He’s taken apart, cleaned, and reassembled almost every machine in the place. He notes on his website there’s still “a barn full of machines not yet revived.” He’s the foremost expert on vintage washing machines in the U.S., and feels their historical importance is overlooked. He even penned a book called “Save Women’s Lives: History of Washing Machines” — he believes the machines played a significant role in women’s rights. Besides the massive collection, he has an array of refrigerators, butter churns, vacuum cleaners, and more. His website features a database of 23,000 U.S. patents for washing machines.

Denver History Bus Tour: Bad Boys and Bawdy Girls If you are looking for the tales of well-mannered gentleman and swooning ladies with rose-scented handkerchiefs, this isn’t it. Denver’s earliest tales were almost never written by gentlemen, and polite company doesn’t even discuss those kinds of ladies. Fortunately, Denver History Tours is not a polite company, at least not this time around. Rope burn and lead poisoning helped Denver fill its coffers and its coffins. The shady ladies and killer cowboys are gone, so let’s dig into their stories in safety! The tour includes a break for lunch, so please bring some money for your meal.

SuperTots knows kids are hardwired to learn through play. For that reason, they’ve designed an engaging, skill-building curriculum in which “tots” learn through a series of fun games. Kids will acquire athletic skills and fitness experience, but will also develop an interest and love of sports. Programs will run for 50 minutes and meet once a week for six weeks. Sports Flag Football Flag Football The Windsor Flag Football league will teach the fundamentals of football in a team setting. Each age group will be split into two different divisions: Draft or Open (if overall registration numbers allow). In both divisions, participants will learn fundamentals, except for tackling or blocking (non-contact league), with an emphasis on equal participation, with winning being secondary. Teams play 5 vs. 5 and are scheduled for six games with an end-of-season playoff, if scheduling constraints permit. Draft Division: Players will attend an assessment date. Players will be assessed on basic football skills and athleticism, and will be placed on teams according to skill level and grade, with team parity as the main goal. Requests are not guaranteed for practice location, practice day / time, or a specific coach. Teams will be selected by the coaches with a player draft after the assessment. Open Division: The Open Division is made up of teams with kids who want to register together as a team. To register for this division, you must have already been contacted by a coach. Players in this league do not go through the assessment process. Individual players registered in the Open Division without a coach’s consent will be moved to the Draft Division. Draft Division Assessments: Draft Division teams are formed through the player assessment process to create balanced teams. Players and coaches in the Draft Division should attend the assessment day to be assigned to a team. Assessments will be held at Chimney Park at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:

78

• K - 1st Grade: Tuesday, March 17 • 2nd - 3rd Grade: Wednesday, March 18 • 4th - 5th and 6th - 8th Grade: Thursday, March 19 Coaches Wanted: This program relies on parent volunteers to coach. It’s sad when kids miss out on the action because of a coaching shortage. Please contact us if you are willing to coach. Coaches pick their own practice schedule that accommodates their schedules. Call 970-674-3515 for more information. Football Requests: Draft Division coaches select their team through the assessment process; therefore, requests cannot be guaranteed for a child to be placed on a specific team, with a specific coach, on a specific practice day, or with another player. If you need a specific request, become a coach and enter your team in the Open Division. Practices: Practices begin the week of March 23, one hour each, twice per week. After assessments, an email will direct you to your team page on www. teamsideline.com/windsor at which point you can contact your coach for details. Practices can occur between 4:30 - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at local area parks and schools. Games: Occur in Windsor on weekday evenings (Tuesday through Thursday). Games start the week of April 13. Teams are scheduled for six games. Registration Deadline: February 28 or until full Location: Practices and games are held in Windsor during weekday evenings. Some age groups may play games in the Fort Collins Flag Football League if less than a minimum of 30 players are registered for that division. Grade: K - 8 (as of the current school year, 20192020) Cost: $85 for residents (NFL Flag Jersey is included with fee, player keeps after end of season); $95 for non-residents.
