Downtown Windsor History Tour When 11-year-old Bertha Harris stepped off the train in Windsor in 1884, she encountered a dirt street with a handful of wooden buildings. Within three decades, downtown Windsor would feature dozens of stores and incredible stories of persevering businesspeople. Many of these buildings and stories survive today. Discover the past during a guided tour of downtown Windsor! Using firsthand accounts and original photos, a costumed interpretive docent will make historic downtown Windsor come to life. Tours are recommended for adults and children over the age of 6. If you have a younger child you would like to bring along, please call 970-674-3532. Zoo (Denver) Join us on a Denver Zoo safari and see why the Denver Zoo is considered a leader among its peers in design and planning for the future. The Denver Zoo Millennium Master Plan oversaw the development of Primate Panorama with two phases, one in 1996 and one in 2002, a new main entrance welcoming guests immediately to the awardwinning Predator Ridge in 2004, and Toyota Elephant Passage in 2012. These improvements to the Denver Zoo have affirmed its place as a leader in exhibit design and visitor experience. The rotational exhibit concept introduced in Predator Ridge has been mimicked in exhibits all over the world, and was improved upon for Toyota Elephant Passage. This concept allows different species to be seen in the exhibits at different times by rotating animals through multiple habitats. This stimulates their minds, expands their experiences, and provides important exercise opportunities. Note: Masks are mandatory while riding on the bus. There is a limit of seven passengers for this trip due to social distancing protocols. Be prepared to follow local COVID-19 protocols at the venue. Day Trips Georgetown Loop Railroad (Georgetown) The Georgetown Loop Railroad® was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot, narrow-gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. In 1973, the Colorado Historical Society began restoring the railroad and the 978-acre Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park. On this tour, not only will you will ride the historic narrow-gauge loop railroad in one of the open-air cars, but you will also take a walking tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine, located at the halfway point on the railroad. The mine tour takes you 500 feet into a tunnel bored in the 1870s. Your guide will point out rich veins of silver and tell you about early-day mining. The temperature inside the mine is a constant 44° F, so bring a jacket. The tour also includes visits to the manager’s office and the miners’ change room. It’s important to note that the mine tour requires walking a long distance on uneven surfaces and low headroom, so keep that in mind. The driver will plan a quick stop for a late lunch, on your own, on the return ride home. Feel free to bring some snacks if you are prone to getting hangry. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wyoming Territorial Prison was built in 1872. It became a symbol of law and order during the turmoil of the wild west. Estes Park Museum (Estes Park) The Estes Park Museum presents exhibits and programs detailing the history of the area with multiple exhibits and historical buildings. Step outside of the main building to explore two historical structures: the 1908 CobbMacdonald cabin and the Historic Boyd Building. The cabin is typical of a turn-of-the-twentieth-century rustic home and displays modest furniture and decorations. The Historic Boyd Building served as the headquarters for Rocky Mountain National Park when it was located downtown from 1915 to 1923. Today, the building hosts temporary exhibits. The final stop in the tour will be to the Fall River Hydro Plant. Constructed in 1909 to produce electricity for the Stanley Hotel and surrounding areas,

F. O. Stanley sold the plant to the Public Service Company of Colorado in 1928. In 1945, the Town of Estes Park purchased and maintained the Hydroplant until it was severely damaged in 1982 by the Lawn Lake Flood. The Historic Fall River Hydroplant was restored and opened to the public and features original equipment installed by Stanley, machinery from an addition in 1921, and a diesel unit installed by the Public Service Company in 1938. Interpretive panels document the growth of Estes Park, its insatiable need for electricity, and the Lawn Lake Flood disaster. A stop for lunch will be planned before heading back home. SuperTots Sports Camps Since 2002, SuperTots has engaged kids, ages 2 to 5, in physical activity in a noncompetitive environment that is safe and fun, above all else. SuperTots knows kids are hardwired to learn through play. For that reason, they’ve designed an engaging, skill-building curriculum in which “tots” learn through a series of fun and beneficial games. They will acquire athletic skills and fitness, but also develop an interest and love of sports. All programs include a T-shirt and award.

SoccerTots is their flagship program! The classes focus on developing motor skills and self-confidence while also learning balance, dribbling, foot-eye coordination, and running control. They also introduce an element of light competition. HoopsterTots classes focus on building fitness and muscle coordination, while also learning key basketball fundamentals, like dribbling, shot technique, passing, and teamwork. They use adjustable hoops and just the right size basketballs. BaseballTots classes focus on fine and gross motor skills, as well as body control. They teach all the baseball basics, such as throwing, catching, hitting, and running control. They are excited to help these little ones develop a love of the game. W-F

Football Flag Football The Windsor Flag Football league will teach the fundamentals of football in a team setting. Participants will learn fundamentals, except for tackling or blocking (noncontact league), with an emphasis on equal participation and winning being secondary. Teams play 5 vs. 5 and are scheduled for six games with an end-of-season playoff if scheduling constraints permit. Coaches Wanted: This program relies on parent volunteers to coach. It’ sad when kids miss out on the action because of a coaching shortage. Please contact us if you are willing to coach. Coaches pick their own practice schedule that accommodates their schedules. Call 970674-3520 for more information. Practices: Practices begin the week of August 23, one hour each, twice per week. Once games start, practices will decrease to once per week as games are played during the weekday evenings. Your coach will decide which day you practice throughout the week. Games: Occur in Windsor on weekday evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Games start the week of September 6. Teams are scheduled for six games. Location: Practices and games are held in Windsor during weekday evenings. Some age groups may play games in the Fort Collins Flag Football League if less than a minimum of 30 players are registered for that division. Grade: K - 8 (as of the current school year, fall 2021)
