HISTORIC HALFWAY HOMESTEAD Windsor has three new historic landmarks! Town Board recently approved applications to designate a site called the Historic Halfway Homestead along with two buildings on that site, the Halfway House and the Dickey Farmhouse, as local historic landmarks. What’s the significance? Located on what was previously referred to as the Jacoby Farm, the Halfway House was built in 1873 and is now Windsor’s oldest standing structure. Called the Halfway House due to its location approximately halfway between Greeley and Laporte on the Overland Trail, the Halfway House served as an inn, saloon, and post office in its early years. Over the next century, many prominent Windsorites would live on the site including the Weller family, the Dickey family, and the Jacobys.
