Friends, Family, Fun, Fall, Festivities…. I invite you to experience something new or enjoy something tried and true. The Town of Windsor recently completed two separate surveys which are both available at www.windsorgov.com. These surveys indicated strong support for recreational opportunities, special events, and facilities. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! It gives staff a chance to learn about new programs you want to experience, and helps us to improve service! This edition of the Link targets several feedback areas. Check out the community events including Oktoberfest on pages 2-4. How about a nature hike, offered collaboratively with Larimer County Open Lands, on page 3? Get together with friends, family, or co-workers and join a basketball or softball league – check out page 30. And if you’re looking to log some miles, watch for the new section of Windsor Trail – Greeley No.2 Ditch between 15th St. and 9th St. to be completed! It is a great connection for your Family and Friends to get to some Fun Fall Festivities…. in Windsor - your Link to quality of life! Enjoy!

Timeless Beauty: Appreciating our Quilting Traditions An Exhibit at the Windsor Community Recreation Center

The Town of Windsor Museum is proud to present Timeless Beauty, featuring quilts from its permanent collection. Quilts have been made for centuries and have transcended their practical use to become objects of enviable beauty and craftsmanship. These quilts were either lovingly made or passed down to Windsor residents over time. Timeless Beauty elevates this craft tradition to art form and explores a world of color, texture, and form alive in fabric.

Denver Museum and IMAX It takes a drop of water nearly 400 years to travel from the headwaters of Lake Superior to the edge of Lake Ontario. Along the way, the water passes by towering cliffs dotted with early Native American pictographs, caribou and moose grazing on the shores, surrounds giant prehistoric sturgeon lurking among thousands of shipwrecks, and past 40 million people who live along the more than 10,000 miles of coastline. It is a dramatic journey through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Now, you can witness the Mysteries of the Great Lakes on the only screen large enough to reveal them - IMAX! Admission to the current museum exhibit (TBD) is also included. Walking Level: Moderate

Nestled beneath the Continental Divide, the Gold Hill Inn is remote from the city lights and city noise of the twenty-first century. Things haven’t changed much since Frank and Barbara Finn opened the Gold Hill Inn in 1962. Sons Chris and Brian Finn are now managing operations by continuing to serve their six course meals, with the menu reflecting the seasonal offerings of the local markets. The generous 6 courses are offered for about $35 this season, with a unique wine list and full bar to complement your meal Walking Level: Easy

Built in 1908, this house has served as home to Colorado’s sitting Governor and family since 1959. Indian Cooking with Sapna Von Reich Tales from Tandoori Nights In the East, the favorite barbecue is a very large inverted beaker-shaped oven made of clay, called a tandoor. In this class, we will make a Green Tandoori Chicken whose taste and flavor depend mostly on the marinade, along with a suitable substitute for tandoor, the American grill. The “green” comes from a savory union of spinach, mint, cilantro, and spices along with the yogurt. Menu includes: ~ Green Tandoori Chicken ~Tandoori Chutney (yogurt based) ~ Green Peas Pulao (Basmati Rice with Green Peas) ~ Mangoes with Ice Cream. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.

Chicken Masala Dinner To dispel the myth that Indian cuisine is essentially vegetarian, this class teaches students to make Chicken Masala, a very popular dish throughout India. Cauliflower and Potato Curry along with Basmati Rice provide a perfect compliment to this dinner. The twist in the plot is to learn how to mix rice with that ancient remedy against most germs & poisons (turmeric powder), all the while enhancing the taste. After the hearty meal, Lassi (a yogurt drink) is served. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.

Did you know?

Did you know the Town of Windsor owns and maintains trees in the public right of ways? In most cases, the right of way (ROW) is the strip of land between the street and sidewalk in the old part of town, but there are several exceptions (contact us if you have questions). Before any work can be done to trees that are in, over, or upon the ROW, or any other work within the ROW, (i.e. installing an irrigation system), a permit must be obtained (Windsor ordinance Sec. 7-4-30 and Sec. 7-4-40). The town will plant, prune and remove if necessary any trees that are within the ROW and the property owner is responsible to water the trees. If you would like a tree planted in the ROW in front of your home, or need any maintenance of the trees planted there, please call the Windsor forestry program at 970-674-2440.

Please remove any twine, wire, or wrapping around the brush. Please pick up and take any trash back with you.
