LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Eric Lucas, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture Did you know that 92% of Windsor residents are within a 10-minute walk of a recreation amenity, such as a park, trail, or our Community Recreation Center? That’s right, Windsor ranks among the best in the nation for access to parks and recreation activities, and in 2018, those activities and access will continue to grow as we strive to impact the lives of Windsor residents! This summer, we've added an expanded summer camp for kids, two additional weeks of movies and concerts, moved our Farmers Market to Saturdays, and added an artisans market on Thursday nights — Not to mention our full offering of youth and adult sports, trips, and special events. Our 2018 capital program will add a neighborhood park in the Village East subdivision, the construction of a destination playground at Main Park, and will begin a new phase of athletic Eric Lucas, M.S., CPRP fields at Diamond Valley. Come to think about it, I didn’t even mention the Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture outdoor pool or the numerous outdoor opportunities at Windsor Lake. Needless to say, there is something for everyone here in Windsor! Feel free to elucas@windsorgov.com email your thoughts, comments, ideas, or suggestions, and enjoy summer!

Supervac and SVI Truck Manufacturing (Fort Collins) See firsthand the manufacturing process for these two local companies. Super Vac (originally the Super Vacuum Propeller Company) was established in the mid 1930’s. The name Super Vac, seemingly a misnomer, was coined as a result of the forceful vacuum created by the ventilators to extract smoke and heat from buildings. The name has become synonymous with the highest quality ventilation products for emergency and industrial use. In 1971, Super Vac expanded its product line to include custom built rescue apparatus. The company markets rescue truck division as SVI Trucks. SVI Trucks manufactures custom trucks for use as rescue, hazardous material response, mobile breathing air, lighting, and as mobile command posts. Football Flag Football The Windsor Flag Football league’s focus is to teach the fundamentals of football in a team setting. To promote equal team competition, players should attend an assessment date. Players will be assessed on basic football skills and athleticism, and will be placed on teams according to skill level and grade. Participants will learn football fundamentals with the exception of tackling or blocking (non-contact league) with an emphasis of equal participation with winning being secondary. Teams play 5 vs. 5 and are scheduled for six games, with an end of season playoff, if scheduling constraints permit. Coaches wanted: This program relies on parent volunteers to coach. It’s sad when kids miss out on the action because of a coaching shortage. Please contact us if you are willing to coach. Coaches get to pick their own practice schedule. Call 970-674-3515 for more information. Location: Practices and games are held in Windsor during weekday evenings. Some age groups may play games in the Fort Collins Flag Football League if less than 30 players are registered for that division. Age: Grades K - 8 (as of current school year) Registration Period: 3/26 - 7/28 or until teams are full. Min/Max: Min 1 team per division / Max 8 teams per division Cost: $95 for residents (NFL Flag Jersey is included with fee — player keeps after end of season!), $105 for nonresidents.
