LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Eric Lucas, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture Summer is upon us and that means picnics, fishing, boating, trail riding, sports, classes and more can be found throughout this guide. I am sure you will find that we offer something for everyone to get excited about. For me, I am excited to introduce new or expanded programs, like the return of the Farmers Market in late June that partners with our Summer Concert Series, Summer Camps, a new Mobile Rec Van that will travel daily to various parks and provide games and activities for the neighborhood kids, and the Father/Son Rough-in it Campout at Eastman Park along the Cache La Poudre River! So take a moment to check it out and enjoy everything Windsor has to offer!

Leadville, Colorado and Southern Railroad

Park Meadows combines the best of the Colorado outdoors with more than 185 of the finest restaurants and retailers. Relax beside the bubbling mountain stream or get lost in the lush landscaping and soaring timber ceilings that are reminiscent of a grand mountain lodge. The Vistas at Park Meadows offers the best in shopping and dining with a view.

Originating in "the highest incorporated city in North America," the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad takes passengers along the old Denver, South Park & Pacific and Colorado & Southern lines to the Continental Divide. But, as the old adage states, "It's not the destination, but the journey that's important." This journey is full of breath-taking panoramas across the Arkansas River Valley and humorous narratives about Leadville's colorful past. Mining and the railroad were a large part of the local history, and today's passengers will find it easy to step back in time on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern. Just sit back and enjoy a trip. Lunch is on your own before the train ride.

The Windsor Wildfires are competitive cheer teams that focus on leadership through skill progression, community service, and sportsmanship. Starting in April, the teams will be open to new members at the competitive cheer skills assessment. This is for all cheerleaders who are considering competitive cheer. There will be no obligation to continue with the team after the clinic. The purpose is for kids to learn about competitive cheer, meet other Wildfire cheerleaders, and decide if competition is for them. May through August, teams will be divided by skill with a focus on skill progression. The official competition choreography will begin in August. Competitive cheerleaders continue choreography through December and begin competing in January 2018. Football Flag Football

Flag football is organized in conjunction with the Fort Collins Recreation Department. Windsor teams practice in Windsor but travel to Fort Collins for Saturday games and may play games in Windsor on weekday evenings. Participants are placed into divisions according to grade. Participants will learn football fundamentals with the exception of tackling or blocking (non-contact league). The main emphasis will be equal participation with winning being secondary. Teams play 5 v 5 and are scheduled for six games. Coaches wanted: This program relies on parent volunteers to coach. It’s sad when kids miss out on the action because of a coaching shortage. And, don’t forget, coaches pick their own practice schedule! Interested in coaching? Please call 970-674-3515 for more information.
