LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Eric Lucas, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture

Summer is nearly in the rearview mirror, and the magic of fall is straight ahead! For many, fall means the return of school, football, leaves changing and elk bugling in the mountains. Fall for our department means the end of some programs and the start of many new ones. Our fall lineup of programs and events are sure to offer something for everyone! Make sure you check out events like the Harvest Festival, Pumpkin Plunge and Winter Wonderland (yes, I used the word winter), as well as the many trips, exhibits, sports and classes we have to offer. While I am sure everyone will continue to enjoy the great outdoors and our fabulous parks and trail system well toward late October, be sure to check Eric Lucas, M.S., CPRP out all of the Windsor Community Recreation Center's offerings as we Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture head into 2018. elucas@windsorgov.com

Active Adults Day Trips and Tours ‘Something Rotten’ at the Buell Theatre, Denver With 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, “Something Rotten!” is a “big, fat hit!” (New York Post). Set in the ’90s — the 1590s — this hilarious smash tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom (Tony-nominee Rob McClure and Broadway’s Josh Grisetti), two brothers who are desperate to write their own hit play while the “rock star,” Shakespeare, (Tony-nominee Adam Pascal) keeps getting all the hits. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first MUSICAL! With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, “'Something Rotten!' is 'The Producers' + 'Spamalot' + 'The Book of Mormon'. Squared!” (New York Magazine). Stanley Hotel Tour, Estes Park

Celestial Seasonings, Boulder

The Stanley Tour brings to life the hotel’s history and architecture, as well as some of its most notable spirits. See the beautiful state rooms, the hallways of the haunted fourth floor and the tunnel that allowed servants to enter and exit the building unseen. Learn about how the Stanley inspired Stephen King’s fictional Overlook Hotel in his bestselling novel “The Shining.”

From raw ingredients to finished products, you’ll learn all about the wonderful world of tea and see how wholesome products are blended, packaged and shipped. There has never been a better time to experience “Chicago,” Broadway’s razzle-dazzle smash. This triumphant hit musical is the recipient of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy, thousands of standing ovations, and is now the No. 1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history. “Chicago” has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping song after another; and the most astonishing dancing you've ever seen. It’s no surprise that “Chicago” has wowed audiences from Mexico City to Moscow, from Sao Paulo to South Africa. And now it’s returning to Denver. Whether you're looking for your first Broadway musical, whether you've seen the Academy Award-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage, or whether you've seen it before and want to recapture the magic, “Chicago” always delivers! Dinner is on your own before the show begins. Walking Level: Moderate Min/Max: 8/13 Registration Deadline: Friday before event

Gold Hill Inn, Boulder

Holiday Lights, Denver

The 10-mile drive from Boulder takes you back 100 years and leads you through some of the most beautiful vistas in the Colorado Rockies. Nestled beneath the Continental Divide, the Gold Hill Inn is removed from the city lights and noise of the 21st century. Things haven't changed much since Frank and Barbara Finn opened the Gold Hill Inn in 1962. Sons Chris and Brian Finn are now managing operations by continuing to serve their six-course meals, with the menu reflecting the seasonal offerings of the local markets. Dinner is on your own, approximately $31-$38 per person.

Enjoy a wonderful evening touring spectacular holiday displays throughout Denver. We’ll start the evening with dinner at Racine’s, one of Denver’s favorite restaurants since 1983. Then drive the impressive annual display at the Denver City and County Building. The building is ablaze with lights during the Christmas season. We’ll also drive by locations near Larimer Square before heading to the Botanic Gardens holiday display where you will take in the “Blossom of Lights” walking tour. Be sure to dress appropriately for outdoor weather conditions. Walking Level: Moderate Min/Max: 8/13 Registration Deadline: Friday before event

Music TogetherÂŽ is a research-based, internationally recognized music and movement program for children (0-4 years) and caregivers. Windsor Ghost Stories

Yoga and the Artist's Way

A Halloween adventure that’s fun for the whole family! Boardwalk Park will be transformed into a spooky village where families can tour the historic buildings and hear ghost stories about Windsor and the Wild West! Each house will feature its own storyteller, scary décor, and candy for little trick-or-treaters. Kids can complete a scavenger hunt and make a craft, and the concession stand will offer a selection of festive fall treats! This event is co-sponsored by SALT (Student Advisory Leadership Team)

This new series of three classes uses yoga and journal work, inspired by Julia Cameron's “The Artist's Way,” to awaken the creativity within. Students need not have the book or be experienced yogis. No need to feel intimidated if you aren't as fit as you'd like. This class is for anyone who wants to befriend their body, who feels stuck, or who just wants to explore a new class. Bring a journal and a yoga mat.
