Single? Don’t feel alone, for many its a choice, for others its bitter-sweet, We may have had to say goodbye to our loved one. We may have ended a relationship that we thought would last forever! With Valentines day approaching and the feel of dread of the wonderful stories the singles will have to smile through as silently thinking to themselves and I care why???? So this year lets take this February 14th in our own hands. I have compiled a list of choices that Singles can do! 1. Love yourself! Remember the rule in life, you cannot love anyone unless you love yourself! You are worthy! 2. Buy yourself a plant and as you watch it grow, remind yourself that you are growing too. 3. Prepare a meal for an elderly person that you know, sit with them a few hours and let them tell you their story. 4. Book a couple massage for you and your BFF. Get essential oils and enjoy! 5. Go out to eat, order a dish that will make your stomach say thank you. 6. Curl up with the remote in a nice quiet cool room and watch your favorite comedy reruns. 7. Stay away from Social Media, Ex’s from a weak moment, and No stalking to see who they are with today! 8. Send out reminders to all of the people in your life that make you smile. 9. Meet with your single friends, hang out and enjoy the true meaning of friendship. 10. Buy yourself a piece of jewelry that says you are a Rockstar! Food Fun Has anyone, besides me, ever wondered about the double standard associated with Valentine’s Day? You know the one I’m referring to: those people who complain on a yearly basis about Christmas merchandise hitting the store shelves the day after Thanksgiving. And yet, no one seems to mind when Valentine’s Day items appear on December 26. From looking at the calendar, the Christmas season lasts approximately one month. Valentine’s Day is six . . . count them . . . six weeks long! So why don’t people complain about the excessive commercialization of Valentine’s Day? I have a theory on the subject: CHOCOLATE! Yup, this special day in February is a great excuse to eat chocolate. I considered several different options when selecting this month’s recipe, all of them chocolate. However, they were all rejected. This was not because they weren’t tasty choices. But each one had a valid reason for being excluded. One recipe has already been used in a previous issue. Another has not been put through the rigorous trial run process in our official test facility (also known as: my kitchen). And another needs to be modified to use available ingredients. Lastly, one yummy recipe contains raw eggs which we now know is risky in a food item intended to be eaten unbaked.

So through a process of elimination, the recipe of choice is not chocolate. It is however, one which can easily be adapted to your own taste, not to mention your wallet.
STRAWBERRY PIE 1/3 c. lemon juice 1 can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk 1 small carton (approx. 15 oz.) frozen strawberries, thawed 1 tub Cool Whip 2 prepared (baked) pie crusts Mix first four ingredients. Pour into pie crusts. Chill. This is the basic version. There are a wide variety of options. For instance, you may use a regular pie crust, or a graham cracker crust works well. If you want the flavor of chocolate dipped strawberries, use a chocolate cookie crust. Options for garnishes are unending. Naturally, you may place whole strawberries on top, a chocolate drizzle or chocolate
curls. It almost goes without saying that whipped topping is delightful on this dessert. If you have some heart shaped confetti sprinkles, they would be appropriate on Valentine’s Day. Slivered almonds also work well when sprinkled on top. The crunchy texture is a nice contrast to the creaminess of the filling. Keep this recipe handy for future seasons because this light, fluffy pie is cool and refreshing on a hot summer day. One of my favorite variations for springtime is to substitute lime juice for the lemon juice and garnish with fresh berries and a twist of lime. In the summer, for a tropical flair, I have been known to add crushed pineapple, fresh banana slices and coconut. Chopped pecans are pretty good with this combination also. At this writing, it is Happily Married Husband and Wife Week. If your spouse is still your best friend, works extremely hard, has been with you through triumphs and tragedies, still puts you first, who loves you when you’re at your best and worst, whom you’re proud to be married to, let them know today. There’s no reason to wait until the 14th. A thoughtful spontaneous gesture on any ordinary Thursday is much more meaningful because it is from the heart, not the calendar. Why wait? Go ahead. Make your spouse a pie.

An Artful Des FAYETTEVILLE – The David McCune International Art Gallery at Methodist University will host an iconic exhibit entitled “gallery goes POP: Warhol” from February 7 through April 12. The iconic exhibit features Andy Warhol silkscreen print masterworks depicting Uncle Sam, Mickey Mouse, John Wayne, Annie Oakley, Ingrid Bergman and others. Nicole Dezelon, Assistant Director of Learning at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh will speak at the opening night reception, which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on February 7. The exhibit is on loan from The Cochran Collection in Georgia and from the Ackland Art Museum on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In additional to Warhol, the Fayetteville area has plenty of other arts outlets to explore this spring. A few examples: • The Marquis Slam, a spoken word poetry slam that features poets from around the United States is held at The Arts Council of Fayetteville/ Cumberland County.
