Dear SIP Customer,

I am writing these lines a few days after this year’s SIP team road trip to Italy through the Dolomites – one of the most inspiring tours of recent years. After two trips on which we had taken the scooters by truck to a far-flung starting location and the riders arrived by air (Amalfi 2016, Barcelona 2017), this time, we set out from the SIP headquarters in Landsberg again, and from our new location on the Marie-Curie-Straße for the first time. As ever, without broom wagons or double floors, 19 Vespas, 1,400km, never-ending curves on the

winding roads through the magical mountains of the Dolomites, tinkering our scooters by the roadside, eating together, meeting with friends in Italy, and perhaps experiencing the Dolce Vita in its best form. Take a look at our report and the photos as well as the QR code for the SIP TV video here in this magazine – emulating is highly recommended for all scooter riders; a genuine asphalt adventure awaits you on your doorstep! Have fun with edition no. 9 of our customer magazine CURVE,

Ralf, the SIP Scootershop team

1994 -2019 It’s a quarter of a century since Alex Barth and Ralf Jodl founded the SIP Scootershop in a garage. We stored our first goods between Alex’s father’s beehives, and the packages were taken by Vespa to the post office by the directors themselves because of the lack of staff. Those were the days! A detailed chronology of the last 25 years is available on our website www.sip-scootershop.com/25years, and here are a few collectors’ items for you to get excited about!

Tranquil Landsberg is beautifully situated on the Lech river with a view of the Alps. Vespa and Lambretta are of course popular in the home of SIP. This stylish means of transport fits into the region where there is an appreciation of good things, from food to their choice of vehicle. Last Saturday though there was an end to the tranquillity and chilled cruising with elegant scooters from the 1960s for a few hours. The melody of racing engines over an industrial area to the north west of the town was audible from afar. The smell of high-performance two-stroke engines filled the air sweeter than the fragrance of Lech’s blossoming meadows and the atmosphere was charged with the sizzling excitement

of the race. All caused by these classic scooters that you are happy to see in front of Landsberg’s ice cream parlours in the summer. It was showtime just outside the SIP Scootershop. “Tacho Karacho”, a drag race just for geared scooters, took place in the middle of Landsberg for the first time. The fastest scooters from the Germanspeaking region had travelled here for this. The race was a championship race for the German “Deutsche Blechroller Meisterschaft – DBM” so a date that was not to be missed for any selfrespecting tuner. All the arrangements were made by the organisers to provide the right setting for the whole thing: the spectators were informed about

the progress of the race and results by clearly audible presentation by Hannes Biechteler (Sport1) and large LED displays. The race was broadcast live on Facebook during the entire event and there were plenty of opportunities for riders and spectators to sit down for a pizza or drink in between. Some riders even used the opportunities of the SIP dynamometer, the record holder on the day was a Vespa with 62 PS! Unfortunately, the only thing that didn’t care for the event was the weather. After weeks of sunshine, it had to rain again for the first time on precisely this Saturday. Despite the poor weather forecast, there were more than 500 visitors

T-SHIRT SIP along the course. A really good number under these conditions. Unfortunately it rained lightly the whole morning until the race had to be interrupted for roughly half an hour in the early afternoon due to heavy rain. But then after the restart it remained dry until the end. Regrettably the damp conditions had had an impact on the number of riders. Only the experienced riders wanted to line up on the start line in the forecast continuous rain. Although this was enough for a very well filled starting field with good competitors, the organisers had hoped beforehand to be able to motivate lots of new starters to try their luck at the starting light.

Tacho Karacho 2018 Art.No.: 9528538

21,01 â‚Ź

The conditions at the start of the race were then even a challenge for the riders’ skills. Many heats started with spectacular sliding or drifting. Luckily without any of the riders injuring themselves. At the end of the day, the riders and spectators had experienced a first-class and thrilling race. The accelerations achieved in the fast classes leave most sports bikes behind and a new German record was achieved with 6.7 seconds over 150 m. At the same time, the fastest speed after the short

course was 132 km/h. Matthias Brugger took the crown that day. An event that calls for a rerun as sometimes they like things a bit tougher, faster and louder in Landsberg am Lech too. But then with Italian flair and style please. TACHO KARACHO again on July 27, 2019 Report, many pictures and SIP TV Video: bit.ly/tachokaracho18-en bit.ly/tachokaracho19

TUNINGKIT 306CCM FOR LARGEFRAME VESPA VON SIP & BFA There‘s no replacement for displacement. The oldest wisdom of combustion engine construction. Except by even more engine displacement! BFA has taken this principle to extremes and is offering an engine for the Vespa Largeframe models with 306cc capacity. Here, no stone was left unturned. Engine case, cylinder, crankshaft – everything was redeveloped and adapted to the needs of a 306cc high-end powertrain. The result raises Vespa tuning to a new level. The performance, torque and bandwidth are more comparable to a motocross motorbike than a Vespa scooter. The BFA 306 engine and the individual parts of the set are among the most exclusive products that can be bought when it comes to engines for classic geared scooters. This relates not only to the price; rather, the quality of the materials and the workmanship are at the highest level. Above all, however, the riding performances made possible with these components represent the absolute ultimate. And all that on the space of the original engine of the Vespa Largeframe models. VESPA ROAD TRIP

DOLOMITES 2018 Our touring group has never been as colourful as it was this year, with participants from Austria, France, Italy, Thailand and Germany. A variety of cultures and types, but all with one little thing in common - the fascination we have for our beloved 2-stroke motorcycles appears to be in our blood. We all love the noise of the Vespas as they make their way leisurely along coastal roads and around mountain passes, we love the lavish curves of the classic models and that feeling when you kick on the starter and the engine starts straight away and you know your bike also wants to set out on a journey with like-minded travellers. This time our journey took us over the Dolomites to Vicenza, along the western banks of Lake Garda to Merano, and back to Landsberg over the Passo del Rombo. Here’s how it went.

Day 1, Thursday 2nd August All kitted out and kitted up, the gang meets on Thursday morning at the headquarters of the SIP scootershop in Landsberg am Lech. Some sip a goodbye cappuccino in the Siperia, while others tinker away determinedly, making their final adjustments to their companion. A last group photo is taken, and at pleasant temperatures, we set off towards Garmisch on the B17, passing Innsbruck and heading for Brixen along the picturesque Würzjoch pass. Soon enough, it‘s time for a cold drink, and the landlord at the “Ütia de Börzt” gets a surprise group visit and the chance for some welcome takings.

Day 2, Friday 3rd August The rain has petered out and we cruise cheerfully along the Pordoijoch pass, the Passo San Pellegrino, the Passo Rolleand and the Bassano del Grappa pass to Vincenza. It’s hot. Too hot even for the wind to cool us down as we drive it takes an Aperol Spritz to do that. From inside, that is. We meet at La Terrazza della Basilica for an aperitif with members of the Vincenza Vespa Club, before setting off together with Tacho Karacho for an evening meal which, frustratingly, isn’t served to us until just before midnight. Luckily, the spaghetti, pizzas and burgers are all great, though. We spend the night at the former Monte Berico monastery.

Day 3, Saturday 4th August The weather isn’t getting any cooler. It’s already hot by the morning. We visit the headquarters of Fabrizio Caoduro’s ‘70s Helmets, before cruising along a wild route through the beautiful Valpolicella and enjoying a superb Tagliatelle dinner at the Trattoria Caprini in Torbe. Our journey then takes us past Lake Garda and onto Garda itself. It’s time for another stopover and a long-awaited dip in the lake, with our Asian companion learning his first swimming techniques. We knock back more than a few glasses of Spumante wine. Once again, it’s midnight before we get to enjoy our anitpasti and meat fresh from the grill, and we sleep like logs.

Day 4, Saturday 5th August The second-to-last day of our very leisurely trip starts in chaos, something for which we only have ourselves to blame, as we have to make it in time for the 10.15 am ferry from Torri del Benaco on the western shores of the lake to Toscolano Maderno. We make it in style at the very last second. We wend our way through the mountains, through tunnels, along the lake, before making a flying visit to Montecastello and driving through lime

groves. Passing Lake Tenno, we reach Merano in the early evening, where we meet with the friendly members of the local Vespa Club, before sitting down to a sensational dinner, including a Grappa tasting at the Pfefferlechner.

finally passing lake Forggensee and returning home to Lech. Full report, many pictures and videos can be found here:

Day 5, Monday 6th August It’s the last day, and time to head home. Hitting the limits of our strength thanks to the 2,500 m. climb, we manage to make it over the Timmelsjoch pass (in Italian, the Passo del Rombo), before crossing the Ötztal valley, heading over the Fern pass through Reute and Füssen, and

SIP VESPA CUSTOM

“PROJECT ESC” BY BUTCHER´S GARAGE Here at BUTCHER´S GARAGE, we have been SIP Scootershop customers since day one. It is no secret, that in Russia, it is often not easy to get hold of things – however for Vespa parts, SIP Scootershop makes life very easy for us. We call the almost 1000 page SIP catalogue “the Bible” in our workshop, only half joking. Due to this long and close collaboration, it was always our dream to work together on a custom project. At the moment, we particularly like “scrambler” modifications, which are also a big trend in the motorbike sector. Every motorbike manufacturer now has a scrambler model in the portfolio. We started to investigate whether such a modification would be possible with a classic Vespa. There are already numerous projects with a Vespa base, which were made for cross country or dessert racing. But in our opinion, they were mostly poorly functioning

modifications that were only visually impressive. To this end, we decided to combine actual all terrain features with city design, and develop an excellent model to escape from the urban jungle – the idea for project ESC “ESCAPE” was born! We primarily searched for design solutions in the motorbike building of the 60s to 70s: a saddle in the style of the early BSA motorbikes and the tank of the Husqvarna 70, which fitted the PX frame surprisingly well, were a start. The opportunity to build without restrictions or specifications is a big advantage in any work, and the only condition from the SIP boys was to use some of their wonderful products for the project. The people at Metal DIY really helped us with the frame construction. Together, we determined the geometry of the future bike, the

T-SHIRT „ESCAPE THE ORDINARY” Art.No.: 9528523

21,01 €

wheelbase, the steering column angle, the ground clearance and the height of the saddle, and welded the body parts of the new project. The steering tube for example comes from a pit bike. The rear wheel suspension was laboriously applied to two SIP Performance shock absorbers, which works excellently when riding. Due to the lever of the transmission force on the horizontal plane, based on the pendulum swivel arm of the PX steering column, it was possible to build

B U T C H E R S GA R AG E 2 1

a system with a central absorption position. The transfer of the shock absorber not only had a good effect on the stroke length and the balance, but also the design, filled the space under the tank and created space for the wide rear wheel, with dimensions of 130/90-10. For the front wheel we used a 12“ spoke rim and a custom hub, specially made for use with the Galfer brake disc. The choice of the SIP Performance Curly exhaust should fulfil two functions: better ground clearance and a visual balance between the right and left side of the roller. Our ESC project got fully hydraulic brakes front and rear: a disc brake that we adjusted from SIP Scootershop at the rear, SIP Aluminium CNC brake calliper with large pistons, Galfer brake discs, master brake cylinder and SIP Spiegler braided steel brake hose. The paintwork in the SIP Scootershop company

colours (white, red and black), based on the design of Anton Gorbunov, was carried out by our friend Ksenia Deryagina here in St. Petersburg. In spite of many sketches beforehand, we improved the basic concept several times until we were 100% satisfied. We had the checked part artificially altered, the black squares washed out and covered with acrylic paint, which is why the foundation of the powder coating became cracked. We also slightly modified the tunnel rear lights from SIP Scootershop and welded them onto the rear. According to our concept, the headlight imitates a number plate with sponsor symbols, and is fitted with a high performance LED. We developed and installed a sequential gear box with foot control for maximum similarity to a scrambler motorbike. As a result, the handlebar looks wonderfully light, without additional gear

cables or gear selectors. Only the Domino high speed throttle, the adjustable clutch lever and the SIP master brake cylinder, with the handlebar attachment, which we built the emergency stop switch into, remained on the handlebars. The radiator behind the leg shield was handmade by us for this custom modification. VESPA PARADE IN PARIS 09/2018 MORE THAN 180 VESPAS IN THE STREETS OF PARIS ! In June 2015 the “Vespa Club Ile-de-France” was born from the ashes of the defunct “Vespa Club Paris75” and organised its first Vespa Parade Paris in September 2015.

A number of magnificent scooters, from the oldest model dating back to 1946, right up to the latest models in the new range. All engine sizes and colours were present, parked out on the “Boulevard”. With the variety of registration plates, it was plain to see they had come, not only from Paris and it’s suburbs, but from the rest of France, as well as Belgium and the UK. Each year this event has grown in size from the sixty scooters in 2015, to 110 in 2016, 150 last year… with this year the largest so far…

On Saturday 15th September 2018, the « Vespa Club Paris Ile-de-France », at the invitation of the « Vespa Club de France » and our sponsor « La Clinique du Scooter », took part in this year’s « Vespa Parade Paris ». In glorious sunshine and on the back of 3 hugely successful events over the last 3 years, more than 180 Vespas and twice as many scooter fans came along on the Saturday morning to the “MotoPlex Clinique du Scooter” shop, situated at 137 Boulevard de l’Hopital in Paris, to show off their machines and to present the free breakfast.

All morning, Vespas continued to arrive, as the admiring Parisians looked on. The owners were treated to a great breakfast. It was also possible to join the «Vespa Club de Paris Ile-de-France» on site and get a goodie bag from our sponsors. This year the staff at Wheelsecure.com put on a demonstration of their anti-puncture device. Once all the participants had checked in, the start of the «Vespa Parade Paris» was close. Each entrant was automatically entered into the tombola, which was to be drawn after the ride out and comprised of numerous prizes donated

by our many sponsors, who had generously supported the event: Piaggio/Vespa France, SIP-Scootershop, Tucano Urbano, WheelSecure, Vulcanet, Belstaff, Helmo Helmets, ThreeStroke Productions, Scootering Magazine, Wild Magazine. And so it was that just before lunch when the 180 Vespas were started up and left in a convoy for the ride out along the main Paris Boulevards, the Left Bank of the Seine, the Right Bank of the Seine, taking in the «Ile de la Cité», before making a stop at the “Invalides” for a quick photo; and finally descending onto the quayside in front of the Eiffel tower. Tourists and Parisians alike were amazed by our convoy of Vespas, which on this the “French Heritage Day”, saw us follow the three wheeler “Vespa Ape Calessino” leant to us by Sofian from Clinique du Scooter, and from which George of “Ghost Phjotography” was able to immortalise this hugely colourful procession! We then looped back along the river Seine, finally parking our Vespas along side the narrow boat café/bar «Le Bal de la Marine», which is moored

right by the Eiffel Tower. Here the participating scooterists were able to get a copious meal and where we held the draw for the tombola. It was our youngest Vespa fan Lucien, who got to ride in a side-car with his father Paulo, a member of Paris’ Vulcan SC, who undertook the draw for us to determine the lucky winners of the 60 or so prizes. Once again, the Vespa Parade Paris had been a superb event. The Vespa scooter is an inescapable part of Paris, whether they are from the 50/60/70/80/90 or more recent models, whether they have small or powerful engines. facebook.com/Vespa.Club.Paris.IDF Bilder: Floppy Du Wood

Good two meters high, the former signpost leans against the therapy facility on the wall of a basement workshop in Hamburg Eimsbüttel, north Germany. Between two Vespa Smallframe Sprinters, a sidecar in red and an exhaust collection that vaguely recalls the volume of Imelda Marcos´ shoe collection.

VESPA SKYDIVE FREE FALL STUNT Vespa stunt icon Günter „Lumpi“ Schachermayr did it again! This time he planned a parachute jump with his Vespa from a Cessna Carvan 208. At an altitude of 4200 meters the spectacular stunt started. Schachermayr crashed out of the plane, sitting on his Vespa. „It was a survival fight with acceleration forces above 6G. But I did not want to omit my scooter and made all the movements of my Vespa“ reports the Austrian. An entry in the Guinness Book of Records has been requested. VESPA & LAMBRETTA NOMAD RALLY

SIP customer Thomas from Bolzano, Italy, participated in the NOMAD Rally, one of the world’s hardest rallies for Vespa and Lambretta riders. The rally is held annually in Morocco and demands everything from both riders and scooters. Thomas really is that tough and is the winner of the 2018 rally! 1,500km across all terrains. Accompanied by: SIP Performance shock absorber 2.0 and SIP Road racing exhaust. Thomas’ conclusion: SIP materials last and outlive some original Vespa components: broken fork and bent rear shock absorber seating. Saturday, MAY 4, On Saturday, May 5, 2018, the annual SIP Open Day took place in Landsberg, Germany. More than 2,000 visitors had a fun day at SIP, including 6 scooter riders from Malta, who traveled all the way from Malta to Landsberg on the Vespa for the day. Thank you all for coming to our Open Day! We put the location, beer, pizza - but the Open Day is all of you, with your scooters, VW buses, Apes, good mood, etc. Scooter riders came from Switzerland, Austria, Italy and England. We had an APE interest group from near Ulm, VW bus T1 and T2 friends from Illertissen, the Vespa Club Munich with an information booth and rare scooter models of the 50s as well as a well frequented 2nd hand scooters market. Thanks to DJ Leo Ernst for his wonderful vinyl sound. There was the opportunity to measure the performance of his scooter on a test bench. Under the motto „Power for the Arche“ we collected 400 € donations for the „Arche Landsberg dormitory for people with intellectual disabilities“.

34 BARCELONA

Sometime around the beginning of October, when the leaves on the trees turn from luscious green to a golden shade of orange before finding their place on the ground, it becomes clear to most riders of two-wheeled vehicles that it’s time to prepare your pride and joy for Winter hibernation. Quite obvious to many, but not for us, especially seeing as we know some action-hungry French scooterists with nothing better to do than ride with fourteen of us using our vintage Vespas from Marseilles to Barcelona! The plan was born over cappuccino in our very own ‘Siperia’ and we promptly e-mailed our dear friend Henry, the president of the ‚Scooter Club du Sud-Est‘. A couple of weeks later and we were sitting on flight number 13H05 to Marseilles. Four of the more hard-boiled members of our entourage volunteered to drive our scooters from our base in Landsberg with the SIP transporter (and trailer), to Marseilles. Well done guys, respect due!

DAY 1, WEDNESDAY 04.10. Lots of hugging and kissing during the typical French greeting ceremony with our French buddies at the Marseilles airport petrol station, we Germans would have been completely satisfied with handshakes from same-

sex acquaintances. We started off with a wide range of various largeframe Vespas, including Rally, Sprint, VBA, VBB, SS, GS, T5, PX, etc, all with a similar motor set-up: A PX engine with a Malossi 210cc performance cylinder, a longstroke crankshaft, a Dell‘Orto SI 24 carburettor and a SIP Road big-box exhaust. Most were still running a disc-valve, although those with a reedvalve modification all had 30mm carburettors fitted. The exception to the rule was represented by a VBA machine on 8” wheels, fitted with a PX 150 engine unit, a 177cc ‚Magny Cours‘ cylinder from Pinasco, a Dell‘Orto SI 24 carburettor, 23-tooth clutch cog from DRT and a SIP Road exhaust. Our initial collective scepticism promptly evaporated, due to this little crackers impressive acceleration and successful full-throttle orgies, up front with the big-boys! Once we had parked our transporter in the yard belonging to Jean-Claude Marino, the president of the SC Pelissanne, we set off on the initial 140 km leg of the tour. Through the Carmargue, to the Yellow Village ‚Les Petit Camaruais‘. Thanks here to Jean-Claude and James from the ‚Mas de Léspiguettes‘.

DAY 2, THURSDAY 05.10. Due to the steadfast snoring from certain members of the group we wearily continued from Gran de Roi to Montpellier once the morning arrived. In the middle of Montpel-

liers urban chaos we had an experience rivalling an Ali Baba adventure. A set of gates opened onto a small paradise, which is the beautiful home of our friend Jérôme Villedieu. Merci beaucoup mon General and also many thanks to his wife Karine and family who kindly took care of our catering. To be quite honest I could have remained in this idyllic haven for a while longer, but alas we had to move on due to various freshly-harvested oysters were impatiently awaiting enjoyment at our next stop. Once there, we were given a guided tour of the Earlhitres-Bouzigues oyster farm by the owner and also plenty of delicious white wine to wash down numerous small, slippery oysters. I loved it!

DAY 4, SATURDAY 07.10.

DAY 7, TUESDAY 10.10.

Perpignan to Bacelona, following an absolutely breathtakingly curvaceous route, a dream for every scooterist! About 285 km with a mini pit-stop for a midday-tapas in Portbou, next to the beach, accompanied by the Palmarium SC and friends. The youth hostel in Barcelona brought us all right back down to earth with a bump. Located centrally, the ‚BCN Youth Hostel‘, ten to a room in bunk-beds-and according to the noise and smells we had been put in the locker room-during a game! You only live once and if it doesn’t kill you, you‘ll be better for the experience, right?

DAY 3, FRIDAY 06.10.

DAY 5, SUNDAY 08. 10.

En route to Perpignan (260 km) we had a small, unexpected Aperol-Spritz-Break in the Pyrennees Orientales, a picturesque coastal village with a small harbour and plenty of meandering pensioners, due to a battery problem with one of the scooters. Once we later arrived in Perpignan we were first greeted by Arsene and invited for a small drink and were gradually introduced to the rest of the gang surrounding Eddy, the president of the Palmarium SC in the Malassi bar. The boys also organised a top notch barbecue menu at the Scoobidou restaurant including many exotic specialities, amongst others grilled snails, especially on our behalf! Much respect!

Still dazed from the ‚progressive‘ overnight experience, we stumbled through peaceful ‚Viva Espana‘ marches across the city towards the beach and immediately rewarded ourselves on arrival with mucho vino collapso and buckets of Sangria! Diverse locations, plenty of tapas and wine, with our faithful trusty rides tucked away in a secure car park for the night for a rest.

Last leg of the tour, around 200 km back to where we started from. Once at the airport we were greeted with the news of a cancelled flight Lufthansa 19H20, which was supposed to have us back in good old Germany by early evening. No such luck and a lack of free hotel rooms meant that we came to enjoy the luxury of the departure lounge floor as a bed, making the last night of the journey equally unforgettable... Thank-you, thank-you and once more many thanks to Monsieur le Président, Henry Mouries and his gang of Scooter Club du Sudest for making this unique experience possible! You could hardly wish for a better ensemble of travelling companions! Merci Beaucoup!

DAY 6, MONDAY 09. 10. From Barcelona, 330 km back to Valras Plage, to be precise the Hotel Abizzia-near to the Cap d‘Agde. Thanks to the lads from the Riquets SC for the wonderful sunset Aperitivo experience!

VESPA & LAMBRETTA JOYRIDE LANDSBERG 2018 With perfect weather conditions and pleasantly warm temperatures the SIP Scootershop Vespa & Lambretta Joyride took place this year. As in the previous year, the event was approved by the Public Order Office and the police. Already before 9am the first Vespisti arrived at SIP Scootershop and served themselves in the Siperia with coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and croissants or paninis. The longest arri-

val this year was the team of the Scooter Club du Sudest, which came with more than 1,000 km from southern France to Upper Bavaria with 9 members. Chapeau! The Joyride gang went on around the southern Ammerlake up to the monastery of Andechs and from there through the hilly pre-alpine foothills between Pilsensee and Wörthsee back to the Ammerlake and finally to Greifenberg to Armin‘s Oldtimer Gas Station. With a drink or ice cream in hand, the

afternoon sounded relaxed in the sunset. Thanks to the team from the lake restaurant in St. Alban and Armin and his „Celentanos“ - again an accident-free Joyride with you! Report, many pictures and SIP TV Video:

SIP REPORT:

VESPA WORLD DAYS 2018 The world‘s largest Vespa meeting was held in Belfast this year and SIP Scootershop was of course attending. Heavy storms made the registration a rather difficult proceeding-but in the end everybody entered the place. However, with four hours of delay, the gates were opened and, as ordered by Ali Baba, the sky was also clearing up for the occasion. Scooterists came from all over the world. Ricky Darrah said: „There are 3200 registrations with Scooterists coming from as far as Russia, Cana-

da, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The Vespa Village on the Titanic Quater was very spacious but the place filled quickly with scooterists. The weather was let´s say not particulary mediterranean but fortunately mostly dry. It was as if the visitors had booked with their tickets an on / off relationship with sun, clouds, rain and wind. As a summary, we would like to congratulate the always friendly and attentive team from the Ulster Vespa Club Belfast, specially in person of

Mark and Maggie. You guys are uncomplicated in all respects, congratulations! We are glad to have been there. We had insightful conversations with the numerous visitors, were able to maintain old contacts and meet new people. We are already looking forward to the Vespa World Days 2019 at Lake Balaton, Hungary.

VESPA WIDEFRAME AUDAX

Fenderlight Vespa feeling: after the „Trofeo della Baviera“ last year, our customer Frank Henkel now held his 2nd Faro Basso Vespa tour, this time in the picturesque area around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, less than 80km away from the SIP headquarters. The tour was planned as „Audax“, actually a cycling style of a uniform ride. In the Vespa scene, a modification has prevailed in which one has a fixed start time to return 6.5 hours later, trying to meet the personal time again as near as possible.

WIDEFRAME 43

Between these two measuring points, Frank once again planned a wonderful tour over small roads through the mountains, which made a lot of fun with the old Vespas. The road book, which each participant received, was perfect and such a „scavenger hunt for adults“ is just big fun. About 80 Wideframe Vespas met at 8:30am at the Eibsee at the valley station of the new impressive gondola on the Zugspitze and there was breakfast, a lovingly hand-sewn goodie bag with a nice T-shirt and much more for everyone. The tour led from the Eibsee to Garmisch and Mittenwald to the picturesque village Krün, the place with the typical Upper Bavarian historic wallpainting that already impressed Barack Obama at the G7 summit. Next we rode along

the deep blue Walchensee over a village called Vorderriß into the beautiful Engvalley high up to about 1200 meters altitude, where the checkpoint was placed. Somewhat below, directly at the brook, the pilots were able to fortify themselves with snacks and drinks and of course to discuss the experiences. Here in the so called Ahornboden are thousands of partly over 600 years old, gnarled maple trees scattered across the valley - an impressive backdrop. Partly via private toll roads to Mittenwald, Leutasch and back via Garmisch to the Eibsee. What a Ride! Full report, many pictures and videos can be found here:

VESPA CORSO MUNICH 2018

Already for the 4th time a Vespa Corso opened the Munich Vespa season 2018 across Schwabing! The rattling and whirring of the Vespas returns to the northernmost city of Italy. Under the motto „The true Ascension,“ Rev. Dr Friedemann Steck organized this event. „Every year in the run-up to the summer season, we meet to open the new Vespa-season with a Corso crossing Leopoldstreet. It is exhilarating to be on the wide road with a large Vespa-Comunity passing the Siegestor and between the Roman fountains, where Munich becomes so Italian ... In 2014, we had 13 Vespas, in 2016 it

was 280, more than 400 in 2017. In a devotion we speak about the passion of two-wheel riders, gratitude and request for an accident-free seasin and for fairness on the road.“At the beginning, the organizer and evangelical pastor spoke entertaining and meaningful words of devotion, the italian jazz saxophonist Enrico Sartori, accompanied by the Akkordeonor Binario XI, ensured the Mediterranean attitude. The route of the Corso, escorted by the police, led past the Leopoldstreet at the Siegestor to the Theresien- and Türkenstreet to the final stop at Friedenstreet. There, in the courtyard of the

protestant student community, was a barbecue and a picnic where one could admire the nostalgic Vespas. An extremely charming and, in spite of the meanwhile high number of participants, family event under the most beautiful whiteblue sky! The Vespa Corso Munich takes place again on Thursday May 30, 2019. www.vespacorsomuenchen.org Full report and many pictures can be found here: bit.ly/vespacorso18-en

The goal of the work of humedica is to help people who find themselves in need due to disasters or structural poverty – at present, that includes the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia. October 2018: SIP Scootershop donates € 3,000 to Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals serves a hot meal to hundreds of thousands of the poorest children in the world every school day. Nutrition and being able to go to school allow children to escape the spiral of suffering and poverty. The vision of the aid organisation which was founded in 1992 is for every child to benefit from a school meal each day. At present, the programme feeds approximately 1.3 million children in Africa. December 2018: Since 2005, the SOS Children’s Village Ammersee-Lech has benefited from an annual donation from the SIP Scootershop in Landsberg. The year 2018 was no different: employees of the SIP Scootershop dropped by in person to present departmental manager Angelica Benz with a cheque to the value of € 3,000 for the SOS Children’s Village Ammersee-Lech.

SIP SCOOTERSHOP WAREHOUSE At SIP Scootershop, we currently have nearly 60,000 items in our warehouse system. Our key objective is always to have all these items in stock and immediately available. Tax advisors and auditors have more than once urged us to reduce the size of our warehouse and take a more efficient approach. What they do not know is that 80% of our suppliers are based in Italy and the concept of “just in time” has unfortunately yet to make it into Italian. To put it diplomatically, the delivery capacity of our approximately 500 suppliers varies widely. Take MALOSSI, for example. We stock all their 7000 items and they always deliver – and always on time. We receive new goods from Bologna every two weeks thanks to an advanced IT

system that we have established together over the years. There is another supplier that we can only contact by fax. The average time between order and delivery is more than 300 days and they supply only a handful of items. Yet if that handful includes the best seats on the market for vintage Vespas, then we are happy to go the extra mile. Find out how the incoming goods system works with the example of a SIP tubeless rim. Our purchasing team always has an overview of all items in our ERP system. The IT department helps by providing target and actual inventory levels, which are dynamically adjusted in line

with sales figures and seasonal fluctuations using an algorithm. The system suggests items for the buyer to order based on historical data and these formulas, ensuring the items reach the warehouse in time. The supplier receives our order and we receive a pro forma invoice. Usually, we need to pay the supplier part of the order value up front, sometimes not until they are ready to deliver but unfortunately rarely only after we have received the goods. If everything goes well with carriers and if applicable customs, the goods arrive at our central warehouse in Landsberg by the calculated delivery date. What follows is often Christmas come early for our incoming goods team. They gather around new or especially exciting

products and the news spreads through the building like wildfire. Suddenly, product development and sales staff appear in the incoming goods section as if by chance to have a look at what’s new… The SIP tubeless rims always arrive in 40-foot marine containers and need to be unloaded as fast as possible to avoid additional costs. We check each delivery against the delivery note to ensure that it is complete and look for any visible damage. The goods are then sorted by item number and undergo quality control. SIP Scootershop is a verified manufacturer with the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (German Federal Motor Transport Authority), which allows us to provide parts with KBA numbers, part approvals and items with the e-mark. Verified manufacturers must comply with strict testing criteria in line with the specific item. This usually

means precisely measuring and weighing samples from the delivery with calibrated measuring equipment, carrying out visual inspections and producing detailed documentation. Next, our system suggests the best storage location. The key criteria here are frequency of sale and required space. Certain items are placed in a picking store from which they can be picked, and an overflow warehouse from which the picking store is restocked. Our 60,000 items are stored chaotically, not thematically. Crankshafts are stored beside cylinders and mudguards. Only the computer knows where a product is. With a final scan, the member of staff storing the goods records their addition to the warehouse. If we have run out of the item, the inventory display in the Web shop switches from yellow

(on order) to green (in stock) and we can start delivery. Customers who have been waiting for such an item are then supplied immediately. However, customers are not usually aware of all these processes and the item simply remains “green”. Would you like to see our warehouse for yourself? We run guided tours of all areas of the SIP Headquarters at our Open Day in May each year. Our shop also always gives you a sneak peak at the packaging area of our warehouse.

SIPERIA APERITIVO & OPEN DYNO EVERY MONTH They always say Munich (or Landsberg respectively) is the northernmost city in Italy. That‘s true but at most with a lot of goodwill. And because of that, you have to travel to Italy from time to time. And here it is likely you end up in the late afternoon at a small bar. On the table are a cold drink and a few appetizers. Focaccia with zucchini, rice salad with fennel, grilled vegetables, antipasti. If you order a beer, a wine or a „Spritz Aperol“ you get a plate on which you can stack the snacks. On the drinks there is a small surcharge, but the appetizer buffet is free. The Italians call it „Aperitivo“. A tradition that has grown up in Milan and is now widespread in many Italian

cities. Sometimes the little things that are meant to be appetizers are so lavish that you can skip dinner. Could not a little bit of this attitude of life be taken home? Bavaria is otherwise so Italianized. We also drink Aperol Spritz. Unlike in Italy, this is more of a women‘s drink and many bartenders can not see it anymore. But it is perfect for the Aperitivo. Of course, our white wine „Chiaro di Luna“ too. Or a cool „Peroni“. And every single month there is an Aperitivo in the SIPERIA, the small Italian bar in the SIP Scootershop Store in Landsberg. From 5pm you can enjoy a great sundowner and DJ sound on the terrace. There is also a rich antipasti buffet for snacking as in Bella

Italia. All drinks cost only € 4.50 and include the Italian buffet. Always at the same time, there is the „Open Dyno“ event at SIP Scootershop. Performance test runs for everyone, where you can measure the power of your scooter by appointment. Registration by e-mail to: dyno@ sip-scootershop.de The next date for the Siperia Aperitivo and SIP Open Dyno can be found on the Facebook page of Siperia. A presto!
