2022 President’s Message I am honored to serve as President this year and am very grateful to leadership and staff for guiding me on this path. I’ve learned so much from this incredible group of professionals. I’m often asked why I serve on the SAMCAR Board—the answer to that is easy: I have passion to make change for the better and feel I can make a difference. Of course, I’m passionate about protecting property rights and professional standards, but there are other important reasons for my passion... The Preamble to the Code of Ethics requires that when REALTORS® have direct personal knowledge of willful discrimination, we must bring such matters to the attention of the Board. In August, at the NAR Meetings, I learned that discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community can still legally occur in more than half the country. I find this infuriating. And believe we must do something. That is why I am proud to announce our partnership with the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance. Please join us in sending a postcard to encourage congress to pass the Equality Act. Our Preamble also begins with “Under all is the land." We must do our part to protect our earth, which is the foundation to the real estate we sell. The Monarch butterfly is vulnerable to becoming endangered because milkweed plants, threatened primarily by urban development, are disappearing nationwide. While we are in desperate need of more housing, we have to build sustainably. Please plant Milkweed seeds and spread the word. Outside of this room, we may have a variety of political beliefs, but inside this organization, we are the REALTOR® Party and we must work together to further the mission of our organization, to protect our planet and our communities. This year please find your passion and get involved!
