Seit dem Sommer 2015 beheimatet Hüttenwirt Andy Piok tibetische Hochlandrinder, die sogenannten Yaks, auf dem höchsten Punkt des Kronplatzes. Mit Hilfe des weltbekannten Extrembergsteigers Reinhold Messner, Buchautor und Betreiber der MMM-Messner Mountain-Museen in Südtirol konnte Andy sieben YakKühe, 2 Yak-Kälber und einen Yak-Stier zu sich auf über 2.000 Meter Mehreshöhe bringen.
Dall’estate 2015 Andy Piok ha insediato sul punto più alto del Plan de Corones una mandria di bovini tibetani, i cosiddetti yak. Con l’aiuto di Reinhold Messner, famoso alpinista nonché ideatore del circuito museale Messner Mountain Museum in Alto Adige, Andy è riuscito a portare qui a oltre 2.000 m di quota 10 esemplari di yak, tra cui sette femmine, un maschio e due vitelli.
Since summer 2015 the hut landlord, Andy Piok, has given a home to Tibetan upland cattle, otherwise known as yaks, on the highest point of the Kronplatz. With the help of the world renowned extreme mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, author and operator of the MMM Messner Mountain Museums in South Tyrol, Andy was able to bring 7 yak cows, 2 yak calves and 1 yak steer to over 2,000 m a.s.l.

Peter Hochwieser kümmert sich liebevoll um die Yaks von Andy Piok. Als Bergbauer bewirtschaftet er den traditionellen Bergbauernhof „Lü de Rü“, der oberhalb von St. Vigil in Enneberg liegt. Peter und seine Familie besitzen eine eigene Ziegenzucht und seit 2015 die Yakzucht. Die Yaks kommen über die Sommermonate hier auf die Corones-Alm. Die restliche Zeit verbringen die Yaks auf dem Furkelpass, wo sie ihren eigenen Stall mit Auslauf haben.

Insieme alla sua famiglia gestisce un allevamento di capre a cui nel 2015 si è aggiunta la mandria di yak. In estate gli yak pascolano in libertà sui prati della malga Corones; i mesi più freddi li passano al Passo Furcia, in una stalla adeguata alla loro specie con ampio spazio all’aperto.
Peter Hochwieser takes loving care of Andy Piok’s yaks. As a mountain farmer, he manages the traditional „Lü de Rü“ mountain farm which is situated above St. Vigil in Enneberg. Peter and his family breed and rear their own goats and, since 2015 they have done the same with yaks. The yaks come here to the Corones Alp for the summer months. The rest of the time is spent on the Furkel Pass, where they have their own stall and pen.
