INTRODUCING A TOTAL NEW DEVELOPMENT

ZERO16

Zero16 has been the year where each sail size has been examined in all in its details. Many sail lines have been undergoing radical changes, such as the Slash and Spy. Introduction of new materials, new details, which lead to a further reduction of physical weight of the sails. #point7girls project has brought special sails to windsurfing girls. Thanks to our loyal Black Team, who keeps being involved in the development on long terms collaboration, today you can enjoy our new products. WHY POINT-7

A brand name which originates from the windsurf Racing scene. The sailor who crosses the finishing line first will receive 0.7 points. Point-7 being the winning score. Second place receives a 2 point score, third place a 3 point score and so forth. At the end of the event, the total race-score for each sailor gets added up and whoever has the lowest score wins the event. It is often the Point-7 score which gives us the final difference between the true winner and the rest. As with many things, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the small differences that play out in the larger picture, and this is the very definition of our products. We believe in competition, we believe in a strong Black Team to prove our products and raise the game!

DEVELOPMENT

From day one as we decided to make our own sail range; we knew that for us to be competitive and stand up against the competition we would have to offer the best possible quality, performance and service to our clients. The materials we use are all produced in the United States, our wave and freeride lines are reinforced constructed with X-ply and all sails made with UV resistant materials. The aggressive look of the sails is constructed with essential materials only. All sails are developed year round by the P7 BLACK TEAM to obtain the best feeling, guaranteeing you an unbeatable sailing experience. The development runs in 3 important stages and locations. The Canary Islands being used during the winter period, where the sails are tested in various conditions from light offshore winds to the strongest conditions that the islands has to offer. During the summer months development and testing then moves to Lake Garda in Italy to complete the range of use of products: 2 great locations which combined offer a wide variety of conditions and levels of windsurfing. The final stage of testing is when the sails are being brought out on the race courses to measure the latest technology and performance of the sails against the competition.

PERFORMANCE

A full range of powerful flat water sails which comprises great planning qualities, stability and having a light feeling in the hands even in strong wind. A great wave selection of sails, which includes the unique 3 batten SWAG range and a pure freestyle range.

QUALITY

Utilizing the newest technologies and materials available; Point-7 sails are always one step ahead. Using primarily UV stabile materials, the expected life of a sail is prolonged substantially. All year non-stop testing of materials and sails in all various conditions, warrants unbeatable quality in the products. 30 unique details are worked in on each sail line to ensure durability and less wear. The Point-7 masts are made in Italy. By having the mast production based in Italy, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s possible to have a continuous development into new products and ensuring that the standard on all products are second to none; both in the quality of materials being used and the craftsmanship. The masts are produced using the Prepreg-Autoclave process which creates an extremely homogenous carbon/resin mix under high pressure. Using a newly patented procedure which allows the resin to be distributed in equal quantities around the mast walls, which assist to guarantee an equal curve of the mast no matter how it is turned in the sail.

TECNOLOGIES We wanted to give a special look to our sails. Something which would have been standing out from other products. Beautiful, elegant and aggressive. Black Monofilm was ordered in the US after getting the idea from seeing the black sails in the Americas Cup. A special laminate with METALSPHERE® and Film ULTRABLACK® pigment. The UV test METALSPHERE® and glue on the material, and the results were ULTRABLACK® pigment amazing. Much longer lasting against the UV rays of the sun , compared to any other monofilm colour. The anti uv black glue between the monofilm, creates a total block to the rays from the sun, stopping the monofilm from getting cooked. With time the laminate remains soft and will not become brittle and dry as the usual transparent. No other reason why not to go black!

The XXXBLACK® Plotted monofilm laminate is made from 2 ULTRATHIN® monofilm layers strengthened by thin dynema ropes, adding up to a total of 2.5mil thickness. Placed in strategical areas of the sail it increases stability, lightness and comfort. The ULTRABLACK® glue pigment is included with its METALSHPERE® particles, which ULTRATHIN® film keeps the laminate together, and again ULTRABLACK® pigment + METALSPHERE® + glue an anti UV material, making your sail last DYNEMA® plotted ropes longer when exposed to the sun.

To increase the reactivity of the sails, the X-PLY batten pockets have been implemented in some of our more radical sail lines. The transition from one panel to the other becomes more direct and donates a higher acceleration to the sail. Batten Tensioners. On the flat water and racing sails, a special batten tensioner has been designed to allow the tubular batten to arrive all the way to the back of the sail. This brings a lighter feel to the sail, creating a clean and faster exit for a perfect flow: lighter feel, extra stability and speed.

ULTRAFLEX® batten top Each of our sail line has a dedicated batten set up. A variety of battens assembly, developed according to the performance needed: just like the pro riders would tune personally their own competition sails. The Black Team has fine tuned each batten, in each sail size, to get the max out of their sails. This development is included in the production line without hiding any secrets.

The main objective of cams is to create a stable profile to increase the performance of the sail on the straight line. What is the point to lose all the advantage of speed gained on the straight line, if it would all be lost during the rotation of each jibe? The Black Team has developed 8 different cambers to fit the AC-K and AC-1. Each sail size wears different cambers in the different positions to make sure that once you change tack, the rotation of the sail is smooth and fast. The sail will be pulling straight away from the new tack to reach the top speed in no time. When battling on the PWA slalom world tour, this is one of the most important characteristics which the rider needs, to be able to jump on the podium. Your extension is different to ours? Your size prints came off the extension? Place the extension on our ‘Advanced Extension tuning’ system, (scale 1:1), and you can set the extension to the right length without looking at any numbers.

I love this three batten wave sail in side shore\side off condition such as in Maui or Cabo Verde. It was a real Swag. I have never used such a fun wave sail! Easy and light: a toy in the hands, forgetting that it’s a three batten when I am on it. An amazing sail all round to have fun with a light and easy simple sail, and at the same time a top expert sail for those who get the chance to sail in real wave conditions.

Thanks to the development done on the Salt already last year I was able to pull off moves that gave me high scores on the waves. This new lighter version for 2016 will be the deal I need to push my limits even further. It’s exciting to have my own version of the sail, no limits, no boundaries in development. When you are able to feel the centre of effort exactly where is needed, thanks to the new geometry of the sail, we can’t wish for more: developed to fit the average height of us girls. It makes it easier, lighter and more fun to go into bottom turns, or for simply having the pleasure cruising. On the water, I finally get distinguished, not only from my biking and long blond hair, but also for the dedicated graphics of the sail!

It has power and this year I’m so excited about it, as it’s not only the power, but allows to go radical as being on a four batten sail. The new weight is not making any 3-batten wave sail feel so confident anymore. The comfort of the sail in rough conditions, the speed in the rotation for executing moves, has is making this 5 batten wave sail become an amazing handling and powerful sail. I believe it’s a true masterpiece and no one could say anything about this, you ask, it delivers.

I’ve been freestyling many years and last year I won with the 2G version, the PWA indoor freestyle event in Warsaw. I realized the high potential of the sail I had in my hands, and after a whole season, I had exactly in mind what extra characteristics I wanted from it. On the 3g is all there. One of the reason of joining the Black Team and Point-7 was because I knew that the riders were followed and considered a 100% for the development. In this case, I had the opportunity to express the style of my experience directly on the Slash once again! Throw it, shake it, and make it dance!

After using the cam sails the whole year round, jumping on the AC-X feels like opening the soft top on your car and going full speed through an empty road with beautiful scenery around you. Last year I had to try it, after we had our boss in Fuerteventura testing it with us, while we were on our race sail. He was smiling and overtaking riders on their race sails. Yes his fast, but he wouldn’t be without an actual sail that gives power to push on the fin as a real racing product.

I was surprised last year when we raced this sail on the real course. It was amazing fast, so less surprised when I saw it as a test winner on Planche Mag in 2015. It brings me back to one of the memories that will stay for the rest of my life. I was on the water with our forever friend Alberto Menegatti, and he could not overtake me, him being on the AC-1. I remember his face, going through his notes on fins, battens and boards. For him it was not possible that the AC-K could be so fast, it had to be that he had part of his own gear, which was not working. He changed for few hours to try to get faster than me, but only later, when he tried the AC-K he was back to be smiling again and his confidence was back! We really pushed the development of this sail and have left no gaps… Enjoy being kings out there!

We dedicate this Zero16 version to Alberto Menegatti that he would have loved to have in his racing and go for the PWA Title. I remember him telling us how happy he was of his Zero15, which he never had unfortunately the chance to bring into racing. Our motivation to achieve the goal of Alberto is in all of us, and now for 2016, we are motivated more than ever to supply a racing product that would give advantage to do this, to our Black Team. We pushed our prototyping schedule, by exploring the differences in details on each different size to get to the optimum. This is our passion, the art of racing, our goals, keeping the extra edge we have on our racing product.

BOOMS

The boom is what we feel with our hands when sailing. It’s what makes us feel the wind in the sail. A alu boom does not have to have only a good price, a carbon boom does not only have to feel light and stiff. There is a lot more behind the boom which is more important than these factors. It needs to bring comfort and safety. With the Point-7 Black Team the main focus to start from was the curve of the boom. This is not about having a curve of the new generation as many might call it. It’s about of having a curve which allows front and back arm to sit in a comfortable position while sailing, automatically positioning the sail in the right angle for the wind to enter and exit. This stance varies with the wind strength and windsurfing discipline. The needs of a wave boom curve is very different from the curve for a slalom boom. Also a slalom boom for strong wind, is very different from a boom for light wind slalom. One needs to offer control and the other power. You can have the lightest and stiffest boom, but if this main fact is wrong then, the boom will feel heavy and uncomfortable. The stiffness on carbon boom are also very important. The right mix between reflex and comfort need to be found. This can be done by a good mix between the flexibility of the front head and the tubes. The weight needs to be front oriented on the boom, leaving the tail end of the boom light. A heavy tail-end will make a light boom in general feel even more heavy then it really is. These are only few points in the books of our BLK TM.
