The new Bill Potts 5.5" Doctor Who figure listing on Amazon has been updated with these lovely promotional shots. Bill will come in the window box packaging that we've seen for the past couple of years in Toys R US (RIP) and they are consistent also with the B&M figures.

Remember those Savage World Retro-Feel Thundercat figures from Funko as shown at Toy Fair 2018? The first four of these are confirmed for an October 2018 release - they will be Mumm-Ra, Slithe, Panthro and Lion-O.

The figures stand about 5.5" tall and are inspired by the original Masters of the Universe figures from the 1980's. While an actual release date was not released early Autumn seems to be the ballpark arrival. Based on what we saw at Toy Fair this first wave of four will be followed by further waves including Jackalman, Cheetara, Tygra, and Monkian

The figure has a different paint application to her top and is a match to the figure that Pearl Mackie revealed over Christmas 2017. At time of posting the item is priced at £15.99 but there is a reduction presently to £12.96. Click on any of the images or HERE to go and order the figure. You can checkout the press release as follows.

After Hasbro bought the Power Rangers in May 2018 we've been awaiting the details on what they intend to do with the line after the end of the current Bandai licence. At Power Morphicon this weekend we got our answer with a first look at a brand new era of Power Rangers figures.

The Power Rangers Lightning Collection will borrow from Hasbro's highly successful Black Series (Star Wars) and Legends (Marvel) in that it will be a 6" super articulated line. The figures will come in boxed packaging and the figures will be released more akin to Star Wars Black Series - with different era's mixed into waves. The US RRP will be $19.99. Hasbro are also going to employ the face print technology to the series.

Our affiliate partner Forbidden Planet have opened up pre-orders for two new Star Wars Black Series 6" figures. The Imperial Patrol Trooper and Dengar were down to be Wave 19 and Wave 20 respectively, but it is indicated now that Wave 19 and 20 have been combined to remove any repacks as part of Hasbro's new strategy for the Black Series - we await confirmation. As with any release there will be solid cases of figures also. There is also a significant reduction in price for these late 2018 releases (applicable to both Star Wars and Marvel Legends across a number of retailers) with the figures now ÂŁ19.99 each. Click through the images to go to the pre-order page, and if you pre-order via these links you are supporting The Mephitsu Archives running costs as we earn commission for each order placed - thank you.

The first wave of this brand new Lightning collection will arrive Spring 2019, but fans at Power Morphicon were treated to a tease of one of the first figures - the White Ranger. You can see from this early prototype some elements of their Marvel Legends articulation - but also new joints such as that hand pivot and foot joint.

Hasbro have promised a new approach to their Action Figure reveals this year, spreading the announcements out across a number of Conventions Worldwide rather than at the traditional big US events like SDCC. At Fan Expo in Canada we were treated to two new figures - one in the 6" line and another in the 3.75" Vintage collection. Dryden Vos will arrive in 6" form to expand the Solo, A Star Wars Story figures further. He will come with an innovative function where his scars will change shade depending on the temperature of the room he is displayed in. He comes with his daggers and his cape which appears to be rubberised and not soft goods. Vos will be a standard release in early 2019.

The Hasbro panel at Fan Expo Canada has seen the Hasbro team confirm four new 6" Marvel Legends figures arriving in 2019. Like the figures revealed at The Unboxing Convention in Mexico, the releases unveiled this time are all comic based figures and very much X-Men themed.

In what appear to be standard releases we have Guardian, Mystique and Weapon-X. Then there is Wendigo who may well be a BAF within an X-Men themed wave.

For the Vintage Collection it was confirmed that Captain Phasma would be released on the Vintage cardback. The figure itself, like a number of the Vintage figures, has been released previously in 2015 as part of the 3.75" Black Series releases at Walmart / Asda. Phasma will also hit stores in early 2019.

Robotkingdom.com have put a new Marvel Legends 6" twin-pack up for pre-order arriving in October. The set is made up of a Miles Morales Spider-Man with unmasked Miles head. And a Spider-Gwen figure.

The 2019 Marvel Unlimited subscriber figure has been announced as Venomized Punisher. This is a repaint of the existing Marvel Legends 6" scale Venom, now with Punisher logo. The figure also includes a couple of guns, previously released with Forge. The figure is free with a subscription package to Marvel Unlimited and will not be released elsewhere. Previous exclusives have included Pepper Potts Rescue Suit and suited Tony Stark. Sadly, the subscription is only valid for US customers so there is no easy way to obtain this as a UK resident.

Spider-Gwen looks to be a repack from her original release back in the Absorbing Man BAF wave. The head sculpt is updated and there are new web shooting effects. Miles Morales is the Space Venom wave figure, but with what appears to be some lightning FX part and what could be an updated head. The figures are part of the Into the Spider-Verse marketing, but we await more details. According to Robotkingdom the set will be exclusive in the US to Target stores. UK retailer In Demand have put this up for pre-order at ÂŁ49.99 with an October delivery date.

Robotkingdom.com have just revealed another new Black Series 6" exclusive. The images are not great at this stage, but the set is based on the Hoth scenes on Empire Strikes Back and includes Han Solo and Princess Leia. Han looks to be similar and use some parts from the original deluxe blue coat release. We would assume, and hope, the head sculpt is updated to the latest Bespin Han head and that face print technology is being used. The jacket is a revised sculpt vs the original and there also appears to be a soft goods scarf and soft goods fur around the collar, similar to what Hasbro used on the Range Trooper. Leia is a re-pack with no obvious updates and the same accessories are pictured in the image vs the single release. The pack sits in a cube Hoth themed box and we would assume there are more accessories packed within. The set is listed as an exclusive, but it is not confirmed where. The indications are that this is a European exclusive destined for Germany first and potentially MCM London, and other conventions later this year. The set will be available in the US, possibly New York Comic Con?

An interesting and potentially worrying development in the landscape of the UK collector market as Forbidden Planet International announce the closure of their online business. Forbidden Planet International will close their website on 7th September and the domain will become a news and events feed for their 16 UK stores. Before the closure there are some savings to be had. This news comes at a time when many businesses are expanding their online offering. We hope this is not a precursor to a bigger issue within FP International. Please note ForbiddenPlanet.com is a separate business to the International brand and is not impacted.

Tamashii Nations have released promotional images and details of their next Star Wars Movie Realization figure, C-3PO.

For those without an Entertainer Toy Store nearby, you can now order a good amount of their reduced Star Wars product online. One new addition is the Star Wars Last Jedi 4-Pack of 3.75" figures, which is in stores and online for just £9.99 (£2.50 a figure). THis was a Kohls exclusive in the US, and this is the first widespread release in the UK.

Like all Realization releases, Threepio has been re-imagined as though he was from Feudal Japan. While this works really well for Stormtrooper and Darth Vader, the look doesn't quite work for me for Goldenrod. The sculpt includes poseable eyes and mouth, although these do look quite comical in some of the promo images - as does the "butt" armour piece. The release will include swap out hand options and a rebel insignia fan accessory. C-3PO is scheduled for a January 2019 release and is priced in Japan at 9,504 yen. That will equate to circa £60-£70 when the UK pre-orders go up through the UK importers.

The upgraded Bandai 1/12 Darth Vader figure kit is due to land in stores imminently.

Other bargains include The Last Jedi Canto Bight Police Speeder or The Last Jedi A-Wing at £11.99 each. Also £11.99 and relatively new arrivals are the Rathtar and Probe Droid. These are not yet online.

This new version of the 1/12 kit see's Vader get some key upgrades. The biggest of these is the new unmasked Anakin head sculpt using Bandai's new facial technology first used on Han and Luke Stormtrooper figures. To replicate his show-down with Luke the right arm can be alternated to one with the hand cut off. The cape, an issue on the first release, has been improved with a softer plastic to aid poseability. Due to the new licence agreement for US distribution, the kit is available from the likes of Big Bad Toy Store as well as the usual Japanese retailers.

Checkout this first look at the SH Figuarts 1/12 Avengers Infinity War Mark 50 Iron-man Nano weapon figure. The figure will be an online exclusive in Japan and will arrive in March 2019. We await more details and any potential wider release via Bluefin

MAFEX have released the details of their 1/12 scale comic book Deadpool figure arriving in 2019. Deadpool is number 082 in the MAFEX line and will be released around May 2019. The figure comes with a boat-load of swap out options from emotive eye options, hands and even three belt buckle options. Less impressive vs other Deadpool figures is the weaponry options which are limited to his Katana's only. You will be looking at circa ÂŁ75 once this is imported into UK / $85 approx in the US.

Medicom will be releasing a MAFEX Evil Gwenpool figure in 2019, number 83 in the MAFEX line. The figure re-uses parts from their Gwenpool figure but there are new sculpted parts, and it looks like there will be some bonus items for Gwenpool if you purchase her evil version. While the contents are not confirmed, the promotional images show different head options, including an unmasked version which will also work on your original Gwenpool. Another bonus for your original Gwenpool is a watch accessory. There are floating comic books with a stand of some description, and a mini Gwenpool accessory. She is armed with twin katana blades. Her cape is soft goods and appears to have an wire skeleton to support dynamic posing. The figure will be released around June 2019 and will be circa ÂŁ65 in the UK / $75 in the US.

Number 84 in the MAFEX line from Medicom is the original Xenomorph from Alien 1979, the Big Chap. The figure looks great, although from the images the posing options are not too good as the stances are a little stiff and not what we would want for an Alien display. Medicom are the third company to bring us a John Wick figure in 2019 following similar figure announcements by Mezco and Diamond Select. The MAFEX version will be a 1/12 scale figure and in the usual highly articulated format of all MAFEX figures. John will come with two head portraits, one normal and one bloody and battered. He has a choice of weaponry including handguns and machine guns. And will be joined by his faithful hound. You even get a pencil accessory for "that scene" You will be waiting a while for MAFEX John Wick with a June 2019 release date.

The figure comes with some neat additions including head options to display the inner jaws etc. There is also an "in progress" chestburster you can add to other action figures - and in the same vein a wrapped facehugger to put on your action figure heads. The Alien arrives in June 2019

John Wick is joining the 7" Select line as a standalone release, as he appeared in his first movie. He will come with a number of weapon accessories and his dog.

NECA have released the following image of the packaging for their upcoming Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5. This Freddy release is in their 8" retro scale with tailored soft goods clothes. He comes with his serving platter. The packaging will be a clamshell design which can be resealed again once opened.

After releasing the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as 1/4 scale figures and then as limited 7" scale releases at SDCC, NECA have finally negotiated a wider release for the smaller scale with individual packed Turtles going into Gamestop stores in 2019.

The figure is due to be released in September, so watch out for it arriving soon at your retailer of choice.

We got our first look at the NECA Buddy the Elf back in February. As we now get close to the September release date, NECA have shared these packaged images. Buddy is an 8" retro scale figure in tailored soft goods outfit.

Each Turtle is priced at $22.99 and is packed in a mini version of the 1/4 scale window box packaging. The figures won't get all the accessories seen in the SDCC sets. Each Turtle will have their signature weapon only, no alternate hands or extras like the pizza boxes.

After a long period of waiting it seems the NECA Predator figure releases are getting back on track. NECA have now released images of their soon to arrive Ultimate Ahab Predator figure. The US should be getting this shortly, expect UK stocks around mid to late September.

Sadly the licence remains limited, initially to the US. However, Ikon collectables in Australia are listing these and NECA have also commented that if they get a UK retailer to handle distribution it could happen?

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring you this mind-blowing GAMESTOP EXCLUSIVE - Individually packaged 7” Scale figures from the 1990 #TMNT movie! They’re not arriving until early 2019, but you can pre-order now on the #GameStop website. They’ll come in a scaled down version of the 1/4 Scale packaging and won’t have quite as many accessories, but at last, the retail release we’ve been working on for so long.

After putting out sets with no text or bio info on the back for a number of years, this boxset goes in to a three paragraph sprawl about the TARDIS and its ability to travel anywhere in time and space - it really is a layman's introduction to the Doctor's time machine. To the side of the text is an image of the TARDIS and the Doctor. The image used on the packaging is the promotional image we saw earlier in the year as these sets were announced and where the colouring of the TARDIS was very very light compared to the prop. Thankfully this seems to have been updated to a darker finish when you compare the image to what we actually get in the box.

While B&M have been bringing us Doctor Who 5.5 inch figure packs for a number of years, 2018 see's them expand to a larger set containing a TARDIS, and a classic 3rd Doctor TARDIS at that. The set is slightly more expensive than the three packs, coming in at ÂŁ19.99

The box opens from the top or bottom and the entire inner section slides out. The figure is sat into an inner tray that itself is slotted into the cardboard backdrop and taped in place. The TARDIS is firmly fixed in place with what looks like a clear strip that comes down each side and disappears in the seam of the door

The box uses the same colour schemes as the other sets with a varying cosmic backdrop that changes from a bright orange cosmic swirl up to a purple starscape and then round into reds and eventually blackness. The box design is brand new with a window that is sandwiched between and upper and lower rail and then wraps round the left hand side. In the window the TARDIS sits to the right with the 3rd Doctor set back a little to the left. Like all of these sets the branding uses the generic TV Movie logo and the character name and features of the set are presented in deep blue inserts. Here we see the confirmation of the scale as the 5.5 inch collectors series, and the set confirmed as the Third Doctor and TARDIS. The final insert sells the fact the TARDIS has opening doors.

In actual fact the TARDIS is screwed into the packaging by means of a black packing bar underneath. This needs removing before the piece will come loose. You then find the plastic strip is protecting the doors in transit, but it takes some patience to feed them in the door so they can be released and the doors will then open. The Doctor's tray is released from the card insert by removing the tape. He is then held into the inner tray with some clear elasticated ties like the other releases.

Looking at the figure first, and this is as good a likeness for Jon Pertwee as we've seen in the range. It is the same sculpt as used on all the 3rd Doctor figures, but the paint on this one is neat, the skin tone not as orange as it's been on other figures and the hair is a nice shade of white with grey wash.

There is a joint at the waist hidden beneath the coat which is actually a rubberised section on top of the harder plastic torso. Like the neck this is simple rotating joint only. The legs are a t-joint type design that will swing out to side and out to front and this allows you to sit Pertwee down or to pose him into some slightly more action orientated stances. Beneath the hip is a thigh swivel, then a knee joint. There are no ankle rockers, although the figure stands easily.

The costume is re-used also from various Pertwee's and is the breasted jacket with sculpted cravat and plain trousers with shoes. The red of the jacket is bold and bright and the shirt beneath this just as bright. The black trim is pretty neatly applied, particularly the very thin lining around the cuffs of the jacket arms and the breast pocket.

Arms are a little more basic than the legs starting with a plug into the torso at the shoulder which limits the arms to rotating on a single axis only from the waist up past the head and round.

This outfit is essentially based on the one Pertwee wore in The Time Monster. The jacket is pretty much spot on (at this scale and price anyway) while the shirt was more a ruffled shirt than an actual cravat.

A bicep swivel tries to help the arm move laterally but as the arm is sculpted quite flat any turning of this joint will throw the look of the arm. Under this is a basic elbow bend joint. The hand is plugged into the wrist so by default can be rotated.

The re-use is more obvious when you compare this 2018 Pertwee with others from the Doctor Who line. These images also show the improvement in skin tone from prior released figures.

Moving to the TARDIS now and this is based on the existing classic sculpt that Character have used previously to make TARDIS versions for the 1st, 4th and 7th Doctor. Each version had amended decor, roof section and light - and this 3rd Doctor TARDIS is essentially identical to the one released for the 4th Doctor.

The Doctor has 16 points of basic articulation - fairly consistent with the Character line as a whole. You won't find expansive moving ball joints or pivots on this figure, instead the joints are more reminiscent of late 1990's figures utilising the large peg and socket joints. This all starts with the head which is cast as a single piece incorporating the head and neck. This then plugs into the torso allowing it to rotate only

TARDIS experts can and will point out numerous inaccuracies. But for ÂŁ20 this is as good a TARDIS model as you can get and for me fits perfectly with the display.

The decor is much darker than the original promo, which is good, with a level of weathering and washes. The decals are black with white text and are accurate to the Pertwee era. The base is black and is based on the TARDIS appearance in Spearhead from Space where the prop had been placed on a black plinth after the original base had deteriorated.

In my opinion this is one of the better decorated TARDIS models we've had and it looks the part for me being dirty and weathered as opposed to the cleaner brighter versions we've had before - as seen in the above comparison with the 4th Doctor release.

As you rotate the TARDIS you will find the sound grill and battery panel that was used on the previous versions for light and sound FX. This TARDIS has neither sound or light effects and while not adjusting this rear panel will save money - I suspect it will confuse some buyers and I wonder if B&M will get any returns due to the TARDIS "not working".

Posed with the figure the TARDIS can look a little small at times but I think that is because we are used to a larger TARDIS in the modern series. If you compare shots of the 3rd Doctor with the TARDIS then his head usually goes up to the top of the windows - which is the same on the model. The door opening is also big enough to have the Doctor propped inside ,poking his head out of the door as though he is about to run off on another adventure.

The one feature that is kept is the opening doors. These work on a spring and clip system. You push the right hand door open first and this clips back. The second can then be opened and clips in the same fashion. Inside the TARDIS all you see is the inner workings and the redundant battery box. While a nice TARDIS interior card insert would have been great - this bare bones interior is no different to all the prior classic releases. Closing the doors in theory work the opposite way to opening them (obviously) but due to limited space it can be tricky. Once you release the left hand door, the space left is difficult to get your fingers in to clip back he other door - that can lead to some difficulties until you work out how to unclip the left door then hold it part way open while you release the other.

I can find very little to fault about this release which gives you a well executed alternative look for the 3rd Doctor as well as a TARDIS to display with him. While some may point out small inaccuracies, you have to appreciate at the current time it is either these innovative but inaccurate repaints, tweaks and adjustments or nothing. Casual buyers may be confused by the lack of sound and light when they see the battery panel, but there is nothing on the box to say these are included. I score the B&M 3rd Doctor and TARDIS box set a 4 out of 5. It is perhaps a cardboard console room insert away from being a 5 out of 5.
