“Almost twenty years ago I started my working life in the construction industry as a bricklayer to follow in my father’s footsteps and have attended numerous courses throughout my career to date. However, I would like to say that the Leeds College of Building’s On Site Assessment & Training route was without a doubt one of, if not, the most beneficial and rewarding course I have completed for some time. Taking this route helped me focus on my working day whilst gaining an internationally recognised qualification. Since completing the NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Senior Construction Management, I have recently been promoted and have applied to become a fully Chartered Member of the CIOB which is a benchmark second to none within the industry. I would highly recommend this type of programme to anyone wanting to be at the top of their game. I never dreamed that I would come so far. ”

Clare Elsworth Learning and Development Associate at SES “The learning experience delivered by Leeds College of Building was comprehensive. The course was delivered under the Leeds Beckett University banner, but it is clear that Leeds College of Building maintain their approach to detailed teaching and delivering, which results in a higher quality education. All of the lecturers delivered the information accurately and interactively throughout all of the subjects. Each of the specialist topics provide the students with the ability to perform at their maximum level, away from academia in real life environments. Quality Assurance and its relevance in construction was a key subject on this course and was delivered to the students at an excellent standard by the lecturers.” Lee Firth Technical Programme Manager at NG Bailey “The Higher Apprenticeship offers all the sustainability competencies that are key to the future of the industry, whilst maintaining the core requirements that are essential in construction management, which makes it a highly relevant framework. There’s no doubt it will encourage talented new people into the industry and help to produce quality employees that meet the standard academically and can deliver in the workplace.”

International projects Leeds College of Building are actively involved with international partners to offer both educational and cultural experiences for our students to complement their studies. The projects offer an opportunity to explore new technologies, construction techniques and materials and aim to further inform career choice. The projects have been invaluable in providing the students with the confidence to participate in activities in other countries and to share their experiences of studying and working in construction within different cultures, languages and climates. Leeds College of Building have been working in partnership with Berufskolleg Ost der Stadt Essen in Germany for over 20 years. The links forged with them has allowed students from across the College to take part in an international exchange programme and discover how the lifestyles and work ethics differ with their students working in a similar discipline.

This has also allowed students to visit industry in the UK and Germany and develop an understanding of the supply chain, manufacturing process and modern methods of construction. New technologies and innovative construction processes have been compared and the knowledge gained has proven key to professional development and further provides invaluable information to make an informed career choice. The reciprocal exchanges between colleges also enable an educated view of the career opportunities available across Europe and allow the colleges, students and employers to forge links. Work placements have been arranged offering work experience to complement their studies which enhance their development leading to employment. The College has also worked with partners in Portugal, Holland, France and Russia.
