ABOUT US Marokka is a contemporary design house that creates unique sculptures using modern production methods. Marokka develops innovative designs that take classical forms and reimagine them with modern lines, brought to life by cutting edge 3D rendering techniques. Morokka was founded in 2016 following creative collaboration between Italian architect Enrico Baratella and British designer Andy Downham. Our first commercial project is the Polymals range – 3D printed sculptures of polygonised animal forms. Developing CAD designs of animals, Marokka’s designers were drawn to the raw, stripped back form of the 3D models, and began exploring different creatures in a variety of poses. These were test printed on large format 3D printers, allowing them to refine and adjust the models to achieve the perfect balance between aesthetic form and structural integrity. The polygonised interpretation of animal forms enhances the muscle structure of the creatures themselves and highlights their power, poise, strength and beauty. The appeal of this form lies not only in the contemporary, stylised aesthetic, but also in the unique interplay of light falling upon the many angled surfaces of the piece. The Polymals are printed in PLA eco-plastic that is fully recyclable and biodegradable. Our machines print in layers just one tenth of a millimetre in height, with even the smallest object in the range taking several days to create. The result is a subtly ridged surface that contrasts with the bold, flat panels, adding depth and character and enhancing the effect of light upon the sculpture. In most cases the sculptures are too large to be printed in one piece, so they are printed in modules that are then bonded or interlocked together, with the seams hand finished and an outer layer of colour applied. Marokka retails smaller polymals, such as Frank, the French Bulldog and Gus, the Gorilla, direct to consumers, and accepts larger commissions from brands, retailers, designers and individuals.
