Words From Jack Swan Timing is crucial to the whole tone of this magazine. It is really difficult to write a monthly Swans magazine as so much can change in a few days. This mag has got to the printers a day after the Hull game, should it of gone after the Newcastle match, it would probably have a different feel. We are a fickle bunch us football fans. We feel the highs and lows and generally go from feeling that we are the best team in the league to utter shite in less than a week. I generally think that we are slowly getting back to our best and playing the style of football that we both crave and expect but by the time you read this, we may be out of Europe and had a drumming by Norwich and I would be off the pace again. I thought we were outstanding against Man City, deserved far more from the first half and it could have been a very different game. Newcastle was our best performance of the season and then I think we all felt that we are ready to get on a roll and then Hull was just dire. Playing Hull always brings back memories and the media love to go back to that day at the Vetch. It is crazy to think that just over a decade later we are bemoaning a point in the Premier League but that is football. And we are a fickle lot. December is always busy with its fixtures and can give a team the chance to push on or drop down in a very short space of time. We will probably know in a short space of time whether we are in a fight for a top 8 finish, relegation scrap or a dull mid-table bore. Tenth in the table and not playing well, are we really that good? Give me a dull mid-table bore every season. Merry Christmas

Cheers Jack Swan

U AK B’

Our search to find our biggest Jack B’ has brought us to a certain entertaining Scouser. His goals and flair lit up some of our darker and less exciting times and set us on the road that we are now on. I caught up with Lee Trundle during a Swansea Under 21 game.

training, 4 months later, I signed for Wrexham. I enjoyed being in training every day because although my attitude was always wrong, I still wanted to be a footballer and I think going into professional football, in my first 4 games, I scored 7 goals, so I settled in pretty quickly.

Just want to start right back; you spent your early career in the non-league, did you feel like you were better than that level at the time or were you a late developer?

Were you sad leaving Wrexham? You had a great partnership with Andy Morrell, just got promoted, I’m guessing that there was a lot of financial problems behind the scenes.

No, I always knew that I was better than that level. I always knew that I could turn professional when I wanted basically. I don’t mean to sound big headed but it was my attitude really (that was the problem), I’d go out drinking too much with my mates and not turn up for training. Because we wouldn’t get paid to train pre-season, I wouldn’t turn up and you know sometimes I’d rather go down and play 5 a side with my mates rather than go training. I think it was my own attitude which stopped me progressing earlier.

No, they offered my more money, a new contract to be fair. I moved to Swansea and dropped down a level and I think the difference was a couple of hundred pounds so it wasn’t a massive thing money wise. It was more about teaming up with Brian Flynn and Kevin Reeves again, I enjoyed my time under them and I thought that they got the best out of me and so the decision was all about that. If it wasn’t for them then I probably wouldn’t have moved down here because it was a four hour drive from home and I’d never lived away from home and so I would have looked at somewhere closer.

You joined Wrexham in 2001, was it a massive step-up? More training?

Were you sad when Flynn and Reeves left?

Obviously. 4 months before I signed for Wrexham, my girlfriend was pregnant at the time, so my daughter was about to be born and I thought that it is not about me anymore and so I knuckled down in

Very sad when they left because they played a major part in my career, they gave me the chance to play professional football and then brought me to Swansea which was the best move of my career and so I owe them a lot.

Who was the best player you played with at the Swans? I enjoyed linking up with Andy Robinson, he was a class player but I think I will have to say Leon Britton. He has gone through the leagues and adjusted his game and has been class and he’s been brilliant for us.

While we are on Leon, do you think that we would be where we are now without him, not only in which league we are in but also the style we play? I think Roberto always had that style of play anyway and so I think he would of brought somebody in who could play that way and so I think the credit needs to go to Roberto because that was the way he wanted to play. I think Leon then adjusted his game to play the way that Roberto wanted him to, I think Roberto could see what a quality player Leon was and adjusted him into what he wanted. For me, Leon has been our best player.

Did you see yourself as an entertainer?

different player, oozing confidence

Yeah 100% I think that when I watch football I like to see people who go out there are try things on the pitch and do what people want to see and when I get out there I want to do the same thing. It was the way I enjoyed playing football, obviously scoring goals first and then get the crowd going and bring them into the game. As a kid I loved to watch Gazza, I guess he had a major influence on me.

Once you get in your goals, your confidence comes back and I think that he needs to stay in and around that box more: back into people, turn and get his shots in more.

I look at Bony at the moment and I feel like he is the kind of player who needs to be loved to play at his best. Do you think you were the same? Yeah 100%, I think most players are like that, you get the odd player who needs a kick up the ass and need a shouting at but I was never that kind of player. I needed an arm around me and encouraged. I wanted the manager to go ‘come on Lee, win us the game’ and that, and Brian Flynn knew that, which was why I think he always got the best out of me.

Was your time at Bristol City as difficult as it seemed? I think for me, it was a thing where I never ever wanted to leave Swansea. Obviously the money played a big factor. The million pound fee paid a factor with me coming into football so late. My heart never ever left because everything was right for me at Swansea. I love the club, I love the fans, I love living in the city but it was just a money thing, that was my decision, plus moving to a higher level, playing in the championship but really I never wanted to go.

I think Bony is like that and I think that there is more to come from him, if we look at him now he has scored like ten goals before December but I think people are looking at the price tag more than what he is doing on the pitch. When he scored the two goals against Stoke, he looked like a

Do you think you would have succeeded at that level if you were there with Swansea? Yeah 100%, I think if you looked at the way Bristol set up, they had two quick wingers so I’d be laying them off and they would be away from me before I was anywhere near the box. At Swansea, we used to get the ball into feet and that style of play makes footballers. You don’t become a bad player over night if you move clubs but some styles suit you more and the style at Swansea suited me.

I’ve met him a few times over the years and he has always had time for everyone, he’s brilliant with the kids and is and will be a brilliant ambassador for the club and without doubt is worthy a place in our top ten Jack B’s.

TAKE AWAY & RESTAURANT

It has been over a decade since Lee Trundle first put on a Swans shirt and from that moment, time changed for not just him but for the club. Our attendances doubled within his first two years of him being at the club. He can’t take all the credit by a long way, we moved to the Liberty in this time and won a promotion but a large percentage of the first wave of ‘new fans’ came to be entertained by ‘Trunds’ and more importantly stayed because of him.

Let me know what you think. www.jackswan.co.uk

I’m sure some will question whether someone who left the club after only 4 years should be on this list but for me he put us on the map again. We still have a great reputation of being fans ‘second team’ and some of this stems back to then and his Soccer AM days. And let’s not forget that it was with his transfer fee that we signed Ashley Williams, Angel Rangel, and Ferrie Bodde, plus quite a bit of change.

We hear a lot about it in football, fans expecting too much form their side and we have potentially been guilty of it on a few occasions this season. Do we expect too much as fans? I’m certain that there are more than twenty clubs who feel that they are ‘big’ enough to be in the top division. There are probably 20 clubs outside the premiership who think they should be in it, they ‘expect’ to be in it. I had a chat with a few other fans to see what they thought of their clubs current achievements and how they faired with their expectations. Steve Grace: WBA: Out of ten I would say 7.Dreadful start to the season but a run of good results(except for Liverpool) have seen us climb nicely up the table. I worried for us at the start of the season as we ended last season quite poorly and it was a major blow for us to lose Lukaku to Everton. Much happier now though. Jason Appleby: Man City 7 out of ten for overall performance so far. Home form Superb and look like we'll score every time we attack. The new boss has definitely got the boys playing more freely and not as rigid as they were under Mancini. Of course having a strike force of Aguero and Negredo helps...a lot. Away form however is a worry and although individual errors have cost us a few points, Pellegrini is insistent that we can play the same way as we do at home, not sure that's the case - time will tell on this. Truthfully I was expecting City to finish 2nd behind a Mourinho inspired Chelsea, with UTD coming in 3rd, the Fergie factor missing for them. Arsenal have really surprised everyone with their start and if they find another top striker in Jan they could go all the way. Matt Richards: Arsenal Out of 10 so far I'd give us an 8, I think we have matured a lot & have shown the world that we can fight for the title. No manager apart from Wenger will ever build a stadium through sale of his top players whilst keeping Arsenal in the top 4 throughout and now challenging again. We need a striker in Jan to ease pressure on Giroud. At the start of the season I was quietly confident we would get off to a flyer because since the Bayern game we have been on a good run of form. I expected us to be in the top 3 that's for sure. Peter Dailey: Stoke: 7/10 We are playing with a bit more purpose and with any new manager comes a changing period. I’m happy with how we are going but wouldn’t say no to a few more points. Liam Flew: Liverpool 9, I expected Liverpool to finish bout 5 or 6 but now I think they will be in the top 4

Simon Thomas: Manchester United We are the champions of last year and so I fully expected to at least b in the title race this year. Whether Fergie totally overachieved or not I not totally sure but the same players as last year just don’t look anywhere near as good. I’ll give us a 4 out of ten for the season this fa And that is being kind.

Terry Whitehead: West Ham 4/10 I expected us to have quite a relaxing premiership season. We spent a good amount over the summer and yet we are worse for it. I think Sam will keep us up but not sure if he will ever do more than th with us. Rob Melen- Aston Villa 5/10. average. typical villa

Gareth Flew: Chelsea 7/10!! Thought we would finish 1st with Mourihno back Dennis Simmons: Everton 8/10. I’m still waiting for us to go off the boil but we have been great so far. Martinez has come in and got us playing good football and we look dangerous. Lukaku is quality and Gareth Barry is doing well to.

Stephen Taylor: Newcastle 8/10 I wasn’t expecting us to have such a good start to the season although we lost the first two games. I think the Europa League played a big factor last seaso and we are doing well now we are out of that. Just hope we don’t do too well and end up in it again next year

Here’s a great way to make more storage space...

David Hughes: Southampton 9/10 Unbelievable, past all expectations. I think we are where we deserve to be as well and to now boast three Englan internationals? It is crazy

James Coombs: Cardiff: 7/10 Install afromloft ruthfully, fourth bottomladder would be very acceptable this season, and with all the off field activities going on I wou be over the moon if malky was to stayuse and Tan decided to go, the problem is how it would leave us financially, it’s a ve and make more difficult one as we all want to keep the identity of Cardiff City alive – but at what cost is the billion dollar question ?? of your loft!

Table of Expectation Chelsea 1 -2 Man Utd 1 -8 2 -2 Man City 4 -2 Tottenham 4 3 Arsenal Liverpool 5 3 Everton 5 0 Newcastle 7 0 West Ham 8 -9 9 -5 Norwich 9 -2 Swansea 9 -6 West Brom Aston Villa 10 0 Stoke 10 -2 Sunderland 10 -10 Fulham 11 -7 12 4 Southampton 17 -2 Crystal Palace 17 1 Cardiff 17 4 Hull This table shows the league table based on our fans epectations. The final column shows how their expectation has done in reality.

Tomas Parry: Hull 8/10. For any side who have been promoted, the first thing is staying in the league. I think we have done really well so far, competed in every game and are hard to beat. Sue Healy: Norwich 5/10 We spent quite a bit of money, well for us anyway, over the summer and I think most fans expected us to be chasing the top eight or ten places. Gary Hooper looks to be coming good and hopefully we can push on. Dave Summers: Fulham 4/10 Really glad to see the back of Jol, didn’t rate him at Spurs and he did nothing for us. I didn’t expect us to be fighting relegation this year and we have taken some batterings. Diane Thomas: Crystal Palace 6/10. We didn’t expect promotion last year and so expectation was low for this season. Zaha has been missed, sad to see Holloway go but Pulis has started well and if he keeps us up then we’ll love him. Tim Deacon: Sunderland 3/10. Di Canio had to go, he thought he was bigger than the whole club. We seem to be in a total mess to be honest, I can’t see how we are going to get out of it this year, don’t have the goals and leaking loads at the back. It seems that most fans are expecting more from their side than they are getting. The average position which fans expected to finish was 8th. Which brings me on to my bit on Swansea:Jack Swan: Swansea 7/10. We finished 9th last term and I thought that we deserved to be there and could push on a bit from there. We needed the striker, who we brought in and I thought that top 8 was achievable. Europa League may have held us back a bit. I think we are all a little greedy with our expectations but is that really such a bad thing? Surely that is better than assuming your shite? Would players prefer us to be impressed if they only lose 5-0 and we applaud them off the pitch and say ‘well the other team have good premiership players’. Us fans have faith in our players, we think they are good and so we expect them to play good. We do get carried away, but let’s not apologise for it.

I can't stand those people who hate football but still go along to games to deliberately cause trouble and ruin them for everybody else. Bloody referees. Why? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouse-flavoured cat food? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?! Why don't sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

A man meets his friend who has started wearing ear rings. He asks "Since when did YOU start wearing earrings?" Friend: "ever since my wife found them in my car !!" A guy pulls alongside a small boy on the pavement, ‘I’ll give you some sweets if you get in the car.’ ‘No, leave me alone,’ the boy replies. ‘Come on, I’ll take you for ice cream later as well,’ he insists. The boy suddenly stops and turns to the man and says, Go away Dad, I’m not going to watch Cardiff again no matter what you say. David Beckham, when not playing football that day, decides to go horse riding. Although he has no previous experience, he skillfully mounts the horse and appears in complete control as the horse gallops along at a steady pace. After a while, David becomes a little too casual and begins to lose his grip in the saddle. He panics and grabs the horse round it's neck and calls for it to stop. Victoria screams and shouts for someone to help. David slips completely out of the saddle and is only saved from hitting the ground because he is still clutching the horse's neck. David decides his best chance is to leap away, but his foot becomes entangled in the stirrup. David's head is now banging along the ground and he is slipping into unconsciousness. Victoria is really starting to panic now, and screams at the top of her voice. Hearing her screams, one of the supermarket security guards comes out of the store and unplugs the horse. The Ynysmeudwy Arms

Our Head Chef has nearly 30 years’ experience, including working as Head Chef in the Grand Theatre in Swansea, where she was responsible for laying on banquets for the rich and famous, including Royalty. She has also worked as Head Chef at Hollybrook Country Inn & Restaurant in Carmarthenshire, the Fox & Hounds in Bridgend to name a few. After a period of neglect, and standing empty, we are pleased to announce that the Ynysmeudwy Arms is now fully open for business.

She has a wealth of experience including being a qualified baker and confectioner. So, we will be serving up some truly scrumptious home-made desserts!

We have carried out an extensive update and modernisation to create a comfortable, cosy and welcoming place to come and socialise, with Quiz Nights operating on a Sunday, Bingo on a Wednesday and Live Bands performing on selected evenings. All Swansea Football matches are screened live, along with a wide range of live sports, including the Rugby Internationals. As you can see, we are catering for everyones’ tastes, to make the Ynysmeudwy Arms as inclusive as possible.

Our Sous Chef also has a wealth of experience, and is qualified to a high level. He has worked for the last 6 years as Sous Chef at Blanco’s Hotel. We are pleased to have such a quality Sous Chef to be working alongside our Head Chef.

The Ynysmeudwy Arms is now a familyrun enterprise. And is now a local meeting point for the Village and people from further afield, where you can enjoy our stunning rural location.

We are a Free House where we have weekly guest ales. Our prices are extremely competitive. e.g. a pint of Carling is £2.70 and we have special offers of £2.50 per pint on selected days.

This is a new and exciting period for us and we hope we can count on support from the local and surrounding areas.

Look forward to seeing you soon! Merry Christmas!

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed two high-quality chefs with a combined experience of well over 40 years.

They have both worked tirelessly over the last couple of weeks to prepare a menu to suit everyone’s palate. All of our produce has been locally-sourced and we are sure, will be a fantastic dining experience for all – whether you are having a snack or a 3-course meal.

Shl y bo? There is nothing worse in football than fans booing their own players and team. True fans ‘support’ their team and if things are going badly then booing them will never help a player play better. Whenever the fans get behind the Swans we play better, we make things happen. You feel the surge coming from the fans to the players and then back to the fans when the players make something happen. It can never be helpful to boo a player, it generally results in a player either going into their shell and being scared to try something in case they get the dreaded ‘boo’ when it doesn’t come off. Or it makes them try harder and try more ambitious passes and shots to try and make something happen which they wouldn’t usually do. When you go away, there is no better feeling than when the home side boo their team because you feel like you have already won the game and that is how opposition fans and players think when we boo our players. It isn’t just unhelpful to our players but it is a boost to the opposition. We are tenth in the Premier League; there is no reason or excuse to boo our side. The true fans, which have been through the mill, will support the side no matter what. Booing is for the opposition, not our own team.

The club cannot have it both ways. They cannot expect to keep hiking their prices up and driving away true fans and then complain that the new fans boo. Especially when the new fans only know the Premier League, they only know us to be good and so when we aren’t good, they are bemused.

Firstly, I have never booed. I used to get really annoyed down the North Bank when fans would get on the back of certain players, Coates and Watkins would get herds of abuse and I never thought that that was helpful. I don’t think that booing a specific player because of their current I agree that ‘fans’ shouldn’t boo but then ‘fans’ should be form is ever helpful or right or will help them improve. treated as fans, they should be appreciated and supported back. A few seasons ago, I had a seat at the very back of the But, the club are increasingly seeing us ‘fans’ as mere stadium, I chose to stand and a steward asked me to sit. customers. We have a supply and demand business model There was nobody behind me, I was blocking nobody’s at the club which basically means that fans will be charged view but I was told that I was blocking an advertising as much as the club can get away with. If a ‘fan’ of twenty hording. That isn’t treating me as a ‘fan’ so why should I years can no longer afford to go, there are plenty of other behave like one? ‘fans’ who will have their ticket and will pay the extra sum. We are customers and the club is a business. A very well run business that know their market and know how to get as much money from their customers as they possibly can. As a customer (and no longer a fan), surely we deserve the right to a certain level of entertainment or are entitled to express our displeasure if we fail to reach that entertainment.

We are in the world of business. We are mere customers. I wouldn’t think twice about complaining to walkers if my pack of crisps was soggy, to the barman if my pint was flat and so why can’t I complain that my football match is boring?

always ways of watching the game, the interest in the Swans and the premiership is huge the world over. What is it like for you returning to Swansea? It is amazing; I couldn’t have planned anything better. I very rarely get noticed at all, my parents still live in their old house in Penlan and nothing has changed in the slightest. It is quite weird really but then I suppose it would be weird if I couldn’t walk down Oxford Street as I always have. It isn’t possible for me to walk downtown Tokyo but then I don’t know that any different if you get my jist. Is it true that you offered your parents any house in Swansea when your first album ‘Kiram’ went platinum?

AW-10 is the worlds biggest selling artist over the last two years, he’s a household name in houses half the world over but has yet to break through in the UK artist. A Swans fan, I somehow managed to get an interview with him. Jack Swan: A huge thanks for this interview, I’m guessing you are a man in demand. AW-10: I picked up a Jack Swan magazine in the chip shop in Penlan last time I was over and have read a few online, love what your doing and I’m chuffed to be interviewed to be honest. Jack Swan: Do you manage to see many games these days? AW-10: I spend most of my time on the road and I stay in Miami for a lot of my time off, I try and catch a game whenever I am back in Swansea but I’m not able to get to every game. I watch every game which I miss on the TV anyway, no matter what country that I’m in, there are

Pretty much yeah. They have supported me so much through everything and I have been fortunate to make a very good living and I wanted to repay them. I came home with a load of printed out information on houses from all over Swansea, there was a really nice 6 bed roomed house down the Gower with a heated pool and the lot. I gave about ten different sheets and said any house you want and it is yours, they both looked at each other and said ‘this one’, as in their council house which we had all been brought up in. So they saved me a few quid there. They are happy there, I love returning there, it keeps me grounded and I love our neighbours, it is quite a funny story that out of every house in Swansea they wanted their council house in Penlan but that’s who they are. Some of our readers would know of you, your name at least but few will know quite how big a star you are. In 2013 and 2014 you have sold more records worldwide than Justin Bieber and One Direction combined, you have had a number one in more countries than any artist has ever had before, you have earned more money in the last three years than Paul McCartney and Cliff Richards have had combined in his whole career. Does any part of you want that recognition locally? No, not at all. It has been a fluke how it has come about

Without sounding like an ass, I don’t need the money from the UK, globally it is a very small market and as I said before, I love coming home because of the size of the club. Is that money still on offer?

Yeah, 100% of it. We have said that anything made in China is available to the club. The club is now so well run though that I don’t think they want to change anything they currently do. We have a separate bank account specifically for our China revenue and I kind of see it as Swansea City’s rainy fund. Theirday New EP

The George Lights Up Wonderland For Charity We’ve had an incredibly successful three years here at The George, but in that time we’ve also had our fair share of tragedy. The loss of Rob’s father, Reg, last year shortly before Christmas came as a big blow to us all and then on Christmas Day Rob’s Godmother, Brenda Jones, lost her heroic battle against cancer.

through the past three years.

Through the following months Brenda’s husband, Alun, and all of our family friends were a great source of comfort. So this year, we really wanted to do something to give a bit back and show appreciation to our loved ones, our community and all of you who’ve helped us

With this in mind we decided to expand our usual Christmas display around to the front of the pub and increase it’s size. We also wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK in honour of Brenda. Rob & Alun set to work on the display, and have outdone themselves! As part of the display we have a Wishing Tree and also a large Nativity scene. At the front you’ll see some cards and envelopes where you can write down your wish and put it into the envelope along with your donation. We will then hang your card on the Wishing Tree. The response from the community has already been great, and people started making donations even before the lights went on 26th November (we’ll be keeping the display running until January 6th). For the same cause we are also running a raffle at the bar, and we’ve had generous donations of prizes from businesses that we have the good fortune to deal with. The response to all of this really reinforces to us how important it is to take an active part in our community and, among other activities, we’ve been proud to offer support this year to Cwmtwrch RFC Juniors and the Cwm Ramblers. Every year we also select a local OAP group to come for a free Christmas lunch, and we are now getting ready to accept applications for 2014. If you are part of any local voluntary or community run OAP group of up to 40 members then please do write to us to be considered for next year. From a business point of view this year has, once again, exceeded all our expectations and we have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm, loyalty and goodwill of our customers. Thank you all. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2014. See you in the New Year! Rob, Jayne and family

Any incline into how much is in there? Umm…. I don’t know off the top of my head. I’d imagine it must be close to a hundred million quid. We are touring there again in February and so it will increase again. I’m lucky that people are still paying for records and downloads in Asia and South America. People keep going on about the U.S and the UK and Europe but financially their markets are relatively poor. We had a U.S number one with ‘Gifted’ and made less money than what we did with the same number one in Papa New Guinea. It is the way of the world. I hate the term ‘money is no object’ as you come across like you are up your own ass but I have been extremely lucky and I could live a very wealthy life living off the revenue of any one of fifty countries. Has money changed you? You come across as very down to earth? I got asked this for NME the other day and I’ll give the same answer because it came out right and kind of made sense to me and may do to you. I find that money allows me to be me, not worrying about money allows me to be me. I don’t really care about the fancy houses and cars and everything, I like them but I wouldn’t miss them if they wasn’t there. I grew up in a council house, I left school at 16 and was labouring for £25 a day and giving £50 a week rent to my parents, it is nice not to have to worry about how to pay the rent, my cars MOT and things like that. I really don’t think it has changed who I am, I will always be a Penlan boy but it makes life easier and less stressful. You can invent stress though, my brother has real issues as to what to do with his money, constantly looking for worthy causes but I feel happy with what I do with it.

I hope you can help to continue correcting rumour questions. You are good friends with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, did this get further? HAHA, no. This rumour got well out of hand in no time. Angelina has the weirdest sense of humour in the world. She’s crazy, it is really difficult to know when she is being serious and not, I read the paper and they say stuff about her which I know is her just winding them up. I was over their apartment in Miami which is just across the road from mine and Jenifer Lopez was there at the time and her now ex-boyfriend. Angelina turns to Jenifer Lopez and says with a straight face ‘you and Ali (that’s what she calls me) would make a wonderful baby. I’d retire to bring up that child’. Stephen (J-Lo’s Boyfriend) looked a little annoyed and they left pretty sharply afterwards. You never totally know when Angelina is joking but I think she just wanted the house to herself and that was her way of getting rid of everyone. It worked and soon after J-Lo and Stephen split this was in the papers, no prizes for working out where it came from. How do you think the Swans will do this season? I actually think they are doing well. I hear a lot of disgruntled fans but when you look at how we are doing in comparison to previous sides who have been in the Europa Cup then I think we are doing great. I expect a top ten finish and have booked time off to go to Turin for the Europa Cup final. A massive thanks to Aw-10 for the interview, the guy was an absolute pleasure to speak with and a real top bloke and Swans fan.

He boasts the biggest collection of Swans shirts in the world. I caught up with Shawn Bevan to talk all things Swans and shirts.

What was your first game at the Swans and how did it come about? I didn't know a lot about it, it was 1986 against Hereford in the league cup. If I remember right we won 5-1, I was only 3 years old but it stays in my mind that those were my first memories of the north bank, my dad took me for our first farther son swans outing. Actually I was 4. And when did you get your first Swans shirt? 1988/89 at 7, Christmas present and it was waaaaay to big but I loved it. Have you kept every shirt you have ever had? Absolutely they all hold different memories for me How many have you got all together? About 200 or so shirts when you count my own and player worn, plus I have kit bags, training coats, champagne bottles, captain arm bands, grass cuttings from the vetch, keepers gloves and players boots I hear that you are looking to get them all in a museum? It's actually been agreed that they will be, they are all about to be sent away to be framed for when the extension is done on the stadium which will give a

dedicated space at the club for the collection which will be added to by directors from the club that collect shirts. Which one holds the most value to you? I struggle to choose between 3 of them.... 1983 jimmy hajzbic shirt, the 1994 autoglass trophy shirt which was given to me by roger freestone or the 99/00 championship winning shirt from Julian Alsop. The last 2 were given to me personally but I can't call it Did you get your hands on any of the Play-off final shirts? Not yet, I'm trying to get one as we speak but it's hard work, I've got Scotty's shirt from the playoff semi against forest. If you could have any shirt which you don't currently, which one would you want? Alan Curtis testimonial shirt from the first ever game at the liberty, Who is the best player you have seen in a Swans shirt? Roger freestone without a doubt Vetch or Liberty? Vetch field really miss her Where do you think the Swans will finish this season? I think we will be mid table but a decent FA cup run would be nice

PROBLEM PAGES (Ask Jack-Swan) Q: My husband has too many nights out with the boys watching the Swans. A: This is perfectly natural behaviour and it should be encouraged. The man is a hunter and he needs to prove his prowess with other men. A night out watching the footie is great stress relief and can foster a more peaceful and relaxing home. Remember, nothing can rekindle your relationship better than the man being away for a day or two (it’s great time to clean the house too!) Just look at how emotional and happy he is when he returns to his stable home. The best thing to do when he returns home is for you and your best friend to perform oral sex on him. Then cook him a nice meal. Q: My husband is uninterested in foreplay.

By Simon Daniels SKY SPORTS BREAKING NEWS Manchester United have given Wigan permission to talk to David Moyes.......... They haven't told Moyes yet !!

A: You are a bad person for bringing it up and should seek sensitivity training. Foreplay to man is very stressful and time consuming. Sex should be available to your husband on demand with no pesky requests for foreplay. What this means is that you do not love your man as much as you should; He should never have to work to get you in the mood. Stop being so selfish! Perhaps you can make it up to him by performing oral sex on him and cookinghim a nice meal. Q: My husband always has an orgasm then rolls over and goes to sleep without giving me one. A: I’m not sure I understand the problem. Perhaps You’ve forgotten to cook him a nice meal.

I live in the Sketty area and have lived in Swansea all my life. I enjoy travelling to far flung places, loving a last minute deal to a foreign city or an adventure off the beaten track. I am a social worker who loves my job and is passionate about services in my local community. I am a beach lover who loves the Gower coast and all it has to offer. I like to go for meals and drinks with my friends and enjoy the community spirit that is developing more and more in the Uplands. I love to shop and love to support local trade. A keen Swans supporter following in the footsteps of my grandfather and dad; I hold a Premier Lounge ticket so enjoys each game with a great view! I enjoy looking through jack Swan magazine and laughing at the attempts at wit and humour! It keeps me up to date with what's going on with the mighty swans! Lynsey I work for a travel agent in the city centre, I am 26 years of age and am engaged to be married later this year. I have followed the Swans since as long as I can remember, enjoying both the good and the dark ages. The first time I picked up Jack Swan magazine was a breath of fresh air; it was great to hear an unbiased opinion on the club which was clearly written by true fans. The spelling and grammar leaves much to be desired but overall the magazine is brilliant. I read the magazine online and then again in paper. I disagree with as much as I agree with but there is generally food for thought in every article and it is actually the only local magazine/paper which I read and I always read it from start to finish. I had an advert which was £20 an issue last season and I had a couple of jobs quite early on which I was happy enough with and comfortably paid for the advert. Towards the end of the season I was having more calls from Jack Swan magazine than anywhere else. At least 50% of my work now comes from the magazine. I have kept the £20 advert this season and also put in a £35 quarter page advert as well. I’d certainly recommend the magazine to anyone looking for extra work. Mike Harry

We have someone from a different magazine/radio/newspaper/leaflet company coming to sell us some marketing every week, some weeks it is basically every day and generally it is a real hard sell, ‘sign up to day and save x amount’ or whatever. We weren’t interested in advertising in Jack Swan initially, but there was no hard sale, Leon simply said ‘no probs, let me know if you ever do’. Over the next few months, I noticed that the magazines seemed to be everywhere I went and so I rang Leon up and we gave it a go. We have been in ever since, we don’t get millions of calls from there but we get comfortably enough to make it worthwhile and there is never any pressure. Mandie - MAKZ

W A T N?

Famous for his monster long throws, Andy Legg had a great spell with the Swans, scoring 29 times from out wide. The Neath born boy spent a bit of time in the dark side but that is enough about Llanelli. Matty met up with him to see what he’s getting up to. What was your best moment for the Swans?

coming up for Swansea down St Helens at the end of they year. Hopefully it will get a good turn out because it is for a cancer charity and obviously I have had Cancer myself. I play a couple of charity games with the old boys, but I only get my boots on for charity matches these days. Who is the best player you played against?

Probably making my debut. Coming from where I had, Welsh leagues and then to play professional football, put on a shirt and be a professional footballer. I had some great times with the Swans, playing in Europe, winning my Welsh cap; I have loads of great memories with the Swans but probably making my debut, especially as it was against Bristol City. Are you still involved in the game and if so where?

I would probably say Clarence Seedorf was the best player I played against but then you could have picked anyone in that Holland side. But I’d go with Seedorf, he was incredible, so strong, it was really men against the boys, unbelievable. Do you still keep in touch with any of the Swans players and if so who? Yeah, John Cornforth, there are a couple that I still keep in touch with, it is difficult with me living in Nottingham but a few of the boys.

No not involved at the minute. Any hard feelings towards the Swans? No, I owe a great deal to the Swans, they started my career and without them I wouldn’t have had a career and so I owe a great deal to them. I still look out for their results and it is incredible where they have come from. No hard feelings towards the Swans whatsoever in fact I have a great deal to thank them for because they started my career. Who is the best player you played with in your career? It would have to be Ryan Giggs, he was incredible, being in his company in training and in games, and he was just incredible. I was fortunate never to play against him because being a full-back I think I’d of been sent off in no time. Tempted to get your boots back on? No, I play the odd charity game which I enjoy. How do you think the Swans will do this year?

Who is the longest in the shower?

I expected them to finish in the top 8 to be honest, they had such a good year last year and I expected them to push on with the signings they have made, people say that they haven’t been the same side this year but they are in 10th place so they are still on for that top 8 finish.

Corny, because he was so hairy.

I just hope that they get into the final stages of the Europa Cup and I think results will go with them so I think that they will be OK. It is really difficult because they are playing a lot of games and the squad gets stretched. They are starting to get players back again. I have no fear for Swansea, I think they are too good a side to go down and so I don’t put them down as relegation candidates. I spoke to John Cornforth a few months back, obviously you both played for Cardiff and Swansea, when it comes to the Derby, do you have split allegiances?

If Harry Potter had magical powers, why did he need glasses? Probably to make him look intelegent Who doesn’t tarzan have a beard? A very good point, must be all the bananas he eats. A massive thanks to Andy Legg for putting up with Matty. I say ‘putting up’ with every issue, this issue I had the great pleasure of hearing the interview back on Matty’s Dictaphone. How these people put up with Matty I have no idea. Thanks again.

Split allegiances, John was only at Cardiff for a short space of time. I spent five years with them and I had a fantastic time at Cardiff and I had a great time at Swansea. It is a difficult one for me because I owe a great deal to Swansea and I obviously owe a great deal to Cardiff as well. It is a hard one, I’m a Welshman and if I had the chance to play for Wrexham, I probably would have played for them as well.

We are back to normal after our ‘race to find some form’ in the last issue. I still didn’t feel like I had queues of people hammering the door to be on this list but do feel that these players deserve a mention.

2n 3r

Michu He’s been out for a bit but has still done enough to warrant the top spot in my eyes. I feel like he has scored more goals than he has, considerably down on last season. He’s best played behind a striker in my opinion, he wants to get involved and is at his best in the heart of where everything is going on. He seems to have developed a perfect weighted pass this season, there were a few in the first half against Hull which nearly cut them open. He’ll have a lot of work to do to get on that plane to Brazil with the Spanish squad, if he does get there, we can be pretty confident that we’ll be in the top 8. Angel Rangel His injury loss is as big as anyone else. He is so consistent in that right back position, drives forward and overlaps the winger whenever possible and generally has a good delivery at the end of it. Very solid defensively and I get the feeling that he calms the back four in the same way that Ashley Williams does. We may have noticed his absence more because Tiendalli isn’t quite the same player when he has signed a three year contract to when he’s fighting for one but Angel will always be missed. I’m not sure that there is a right back in the league that I would swap him for and the sooner he returns the better. Jonjo I haven’t had the chance to speak to Geraint Evans about his ‘what is the point of Jonjo’ article, I’m not sure he and quite a few of you will disagree with him being in this list. He is a rough diamond without a doubt, needs a bit of shaping and moulding but he has everything that a central midfielder should have. I’m not putting him here because of his potential though, that would be stupid, I’m putting him here because he is the player that wants to make things happen more than any other, especially when Michu was out. He always wants the ball and always wants to do something with it, he may not always do what he wants, but at least he’s making the effort. He’s decent in the air, likes a tackle, can keep it simple, (sometimes) can knock it long and can score some goals. Can and will make mistakes, the more goals he scores and creates, the more we’ll forgive his mistakes. Nobody gives the ball away more for Liverpool than Steven Gerrard: don’t see too many of their fans moaning now. Special Mention: Dyer I can’t ever recall too many more frustrating players, Pablo might be up there too but I have a humongous love/hate relationship with our reformed hand bag thief (still love writing that). On his day he is not just our most dangerous player but one of the most dangerous in the league, he is unplayable at times. And like all players it seems that when one aspect of his game is working, everything does. His defensive qualities can be every bit as good as his attacking ones, I have said for many years that he could be cover for right back. Imagine facing him behind Routledge or Pablo. Wingers always have on and off days, last season he had more off days than on but this year he has been far more consistent. Going in the right direction, without doubt. Any Luck With the Form Searching?

Chico? Not really, don’t feel too confident with him at the moment, I suppose he has had a better month than the previous one. Routledge? Getting there I think, we’ll be seeing the best of him in no time. JDG? One thing us fans hate is no commitment. Win a tackle and we’ll talk.
