Swans are in the premiership, shhhhhhh!!.

It’s all a bit quiet at the moment. We’ve become a West Brom or a Fulham, nobody is talking about the Swans. We’re now expected to do well, in the eyes of the media we’re not in the ‘win the league race’ or the ‘relegation scrap’ we are merely an established Premiership mid-table team who don’t need too much coverage.

As ever we’ll know more this time next month but I’m optimistic for a good season. I’d be more than happy if the media keep quiet although a little bit of coverage for us winning the League cup will be nice.

Ej Ja Sw

And with 3 draws and a hardly fought win at home to Wigan in our last nine games isn’t its not surprising that we’re not getting the same coverage which we got after our thumping start to the campaign. But we have a new direction and for the first time I feel as though I can see improvements to last season and I feel we know what we are supposed to be doing. We are more direct but still patient which if mastered could be a magical combination. Too many times last season we had huge amounts of possession, looked very comfortable and yet never looked like scoring. Nobody does pointless passes this year, every pass has a purpose, an aim and the main aim being to get the team into a more forward position. Our squad is looking brilliant, for the first time I’d say we had a half decent second XI. I’m worried that we may be short in midfield if Michu continues to play as a striker but we may have a ‘Ben Davies’ in midfield who can step up if required. Both Davies and Tremmel have really impressed this month. Davies has settled in and made the position his own, we expect that Taylor will walk back into his left back slot but a mega money move for the former Wrexham player will look more attractive if it came knowing that we have a younger proven premiership player already at the club. Is it the same Tremmel that nearly gave me a heart attack against Stoke last year? I was calling for Alan Tate to replace him that day but this season he looks incredibly at ease and equally important is that the whole defence seems to have faith in him. This month, like them all is a tough one. Liverpool visiting will be fun, it will be interesting to see what reception fatty gets and I hope that Mr Allen gets the biggest cheer a returning player has ever had at the Liberty.

Jack Swans Movember Attempt

Misn i? We are premier league, we are in demand and yet it seems that at times we’re a bit slow to react to our new popularity. It seems that our sexy centenary shirt isn’t available in the many countries wanted a piece of the Swans. We spent our summer on tour in the U.S and yet apparently it’s hard to find a shirt there, we have huge interest in Denmark at present and although the club shop online will post them out there doesn’t seem to be shops stocking them. We play attractive football in the most watched league in the world; we have manager known the world over and we’re unique as we’re the only decent side in an entire country. Now is the time to push brand-Jacks and secure future interest outside of South West Wales.

Moore time up-front?

Reading at home, Swansea are 2-0 down at home to a side who look certain to get relegated, we’ve lost our previous 3 games and a perfect start looks to have disappeared. The coach brings on Luke Moore who has looked dangerous in the small amount of time he’s had in previous games. He nearly scores with his first move and forces a great save from their keeper on more than one occasion.

I think, since changing, we are harder to beat as our balance is definitely better with JDG alongside Ki and Leon in the midfield and with Michu up top but we also miss him in many ways. The goals are obvious, I think they will come but none of our midfield three has scored for the club in the premiership and Michu has only one goal since playing the more advanced role- and this was from a corner.

His second half performance went a long way in Swansea taking a draw from the game and many of us hoped and expected him to take the lead role over a struggling Geordie striker who offered little. Laudrup surprises us all and pushes forward Michu at home to Wigan. He gave clues all week talking about his desire for a clean sheet and although we didn’t get it, we did look a lot more solid. But the question being asked is:- Is Michu a striker?

I also think he gives a much needed bite to the midfield that we seem to miss at certain times when he’s not in it. The first ten minutes of the Southampton game we looked like champions, we totally took the game to them, dominated possession like only the top teams do away from home and we were the only side in the match. When the tide changed our whole midfield went missing, there were patches of the game when nobody was interested in scrapping, nipping in to win free kicks, 50 – 50s and to change the momentum.

I think a better question is ‘is he a good striker?’ and for me it is obvious, yes he is. He’s a top quality striker. He’s a nightmare, he’s big, strong and his work rate is immense, he is top, top quality and is the best striker we currently have at the club. I’ve heard people say that he doesn’t make an impact upfront and I really don’t see what games their watching. It’s true to say that he hasn’t scored as many and possibly won’t score as many goals as he would from the advanced midfield position but he brings players into play very well from up top and I’m sure it is no coincidence that Ki and Hernandez’s form has come to light while the big man is up there. I was worried this time last month that we were too easy to beat and since then we got a point against the European champions, deserved a point away to the premiership champions and got a decent draw away to a fighting Southampton (we also beat some team that used to be good in the 80s and now live in the past paying obscene amounts of money for overrated managers.........but their not even worth mentioning)

Michu does that. He did it from upfront against the saints but it’s difficult for him to have an impact in the tempo and momentum of the match from further up field. He has more to him than Siggy last year or anyone currently at the club, if we could clone him and have him playing behind himself then there wouldn’t be an issue but at the moment it’s really difficult to know what to do with our best player. Continues next page

Mi pe f Lpo mat

Graham doesn’t seem to be at the races this season yet although by all accounts he and Michu were linking up like Cole and York in their hay day pre-season. It could be that our Great Dane has faith in DG10 and the old motto ‘form is temporary and class is permanent’ and the best way to get that form back is to bring him off the bench and get goals. Schakter for me hasn’t looked anywhere near as dangerous as Moore although neither have had a fair chance. He turns well and he could turn out to be real quality but I haven’t seen anything too exciting yet.

Kemmy. If Kemmy can come in and add that much needed bite and fight into the midfield and prevent those lapses in the match then we may not miss Michu in the midfield as much. Having said this he won’t contribute to the goals like the big Spaniard. I expect us to get a player in January and who we get in will probably give away Laudrups thoughts. I expect he will bring in another advanced, goal scoring midfielder which will keep Michu up top and give us more options but we’ll see.

I would have liked to see us give Moore a chance. I feel so sorry for him. How since the Reading game he has dropped from second choice striker and pushing himself to front of the queue to being forth choice striker and not kicking a ball since coming off the bench and changing the game that day.

I’m really happy with how things are going, I feel like we are progressing unlike a month ago and I feel like we are developing ‘Laudrups team’ as against clinging on to the remains of Brendan’s. Its interesting to see these changes and to see how a football genius wants to play. The answer could be a simple one and could be a case of Michu up top for away games and the tougher teams and play him behind when home to the ‘lesser sides’.

If Laudrup continues to overlook Moore then the answer could be a bizarre one and could be

Time will tell but things are on the up and wherever Michu plays he is class.

Where’s Mark Gower? A feature specially for IceJack, but where is Mark Gower? We are looking a bit light in midfield now Michu is up top, Kemmy being our only real cover before we must do a man hunt and find Gower, dust the cobwebs off him and let him loose. Should he still be at the club? He’s never been brilliant for us but never let us down. I find it bizarre that he is still at the club after hearing that he wants to be playing football. Surprised he didn’t get a loan move to a championship club. WIthout meaning to sound disrespectful I think that his his level and where he can make a decent impact. Personally I’d of preferred to keep Orlandi and seen Gower leave but contracts were involved and he’s here. Or is he?

H er & Fabor bu A K Christopher Austin: Ki because were 10 million better off. And I don't think there is that much difference anyway. @dentontoast: Ki,he seems 2 always have bags of time on the ball, confident to hold onto it and not just make an instant pass for the sake of it @barrydoom: Ki, he doesn't need Leon Britton to be on the pitch to be effective, and he is a lot more versatile, could play no10 or at CB @RhysAlmighty: Both Ki has an excellent long range shot and work rate, but I'd have to go with Joey because I like homegrown talent Kevin Evans: ki cos he is a better footballer than allan Christopher Saunders: Ki by a mile I've never seen a player that doesn't give the ball away and his through ball at man city was amazing. Alan Godrich: Joe sideways and backwards no real shot on him , Ki got a hell of a shot on him ,got an eye for a great pass , both shield the ball well , Ki for me ,And those scoucers were mugged by Huw Matt Richards: Allen for versatility all over the midfield like a young Leon Britton, and threading a killer pass... Ki for strength, tackling ability, long distance shooting, set piece specialist and he can play further up the field as well as DM. If I had to pick one, i`d go for Ki, he is the more all rounder, Allen is a DM and does his job well.

Every manager has different ideas and all us ‘want to be gaffas’ and football manager dreamers have our own style, way of playing and perfect XI. We’ve been spoilt at the Swans with attractive passing football which has brought results and we’re blessed with having had two quality footballers playing in the space just in-front of Leon and behind the attractive midfielder but the question is:- Would you prefer Ki or Allen? Without looking at stats, my initial thought is that Ki is a more attack minded player than Joe. He will score more goals and create more although Joe will help a side dominate possession, control the tempo of a game and sit back when required. The stats (although very early in Ki’s PL career) show a more creative Allen than I remember:Allen in Premier League: Goal every 971.5 minutes Assist every 971.5 minutes

Ki in Premier League: 643 minutes with no goals 643 minutes with no assists

Incidentally all of Joe Allens goals and assists came from his time at SA1 and so neither player has had a direct influence on a goal this season. I actually believe that Joe is more vital to Liverpool than he ever was with us and that Ki gives a better balance to the side. Our South Korean is compared with Steven Gerrard in his home country and I think it’s true to say that he and Stevie G are alike where Joe is more like Leon Britton. Joe is brilliant and I don’t want to come across as having sour grapes for him leaving but I do feel that playing both him and Leon had huge drawbacks last season. We dominated possession in games but generally went sideways and backwards without creating much. Ki craves creating chances and wants the chance to shoot and to get forward. Although the stats don’t back me up at present I would say that over time Ki will score and create more goals than the Narberth boy and although Joe is very neat and tidy I expect him to leave the goals and assists to his team mates. Joey will be higher in the passing completion percentage table which will keep Brendan happy but he’ll do well to finish above Mr Britton.

Swans fans were so chuffed Dyer scored against his old club Southampton they held him high. 9

Laudrup on our cup run and the prospect of Europe "At Getafe it was the same," recalled Laudrup, a 1992 European Cup winner with Barcelona. "They were a smaller club that just started to play the Spanish Cup and we went on and suddenly we were in the final, where we lost to Valencia. "But to be a small club in the final, it is great. In that season at Getafe, it carried on in the Uefa Cup where we played Bayern Munich in the quarter-final. "We also beat great teams like Benfica and Anderlecht in Europe. It was great. "Bigger clubs are more used to making finals, it is different for smaller clubs. It is the first time this club has gone so far in this cup and it is the shortest way to play in a major final and have success. "We all agree, and me included, that the league is always the most important because it is our daily bread. But a cup run is fantastic.

Rotrd A

In the 1982/83 season we beat Braga 3-1 on aggregate to qualify for the first round of the European Cup Winners cup. We’ve totaled seven seasons of a European venture with our first being in 1961 and our last coming as recent as 1992 where we entertained Monaco (Entertaining being as kind a word as I can use, losing 10-1 over the legs). We played Sliema Wanderers from Malta in the first round in 1982 and had an aggregate win of 17-0. We eventually went on to lose to Paris St Germain in the next round. We went down from the top flight at the end of that 1983 season having finished 6th the previous year and whether the exciting trips abroad played a part we will never know but what we do know is in our entire history it was over this season where we recorded our only ever European competitive victories. So would we want European football next year? We have arguably the best side and the best squad which the club has ever had, a European manager and the world is a smaller place than it was even in the eighties. We have a goalkeeper who travels with the Dutch squad when fit, a South Korean who flies back for international matches in between games (and maybe his sisters wedding, we’ll see) and JDG who has apparently set his allegiances to Canada and will soon be flying back and fore across the Atlantic. So I think the fatigue from travelling isn’t the same issue as it once was. C

People worry about the pre-season which can start really early but I think that competitive games are surely the best pre-season training. I would always prioritise staying in the league over a cup run but it doesn’t need to be an either-or. Liverpool played the billionaire Russian side the other day away from home without their best players who stayed at home. Nobody can convince me that the likes of Monk, Tate, Moore, Graham, Schakter, Kemmy, Gower and Obeng wouldn’t fancy a trip out there and the very worst that can happen is that we lose and end up out of the competition. We are progressing and have a new found fame and interest abroad, the possibility of going on a European tour and showing off our football, manager and voices appeals to me. I also think that we will become even more attractive for foreign players if we did achieve football on the continent. MY

My missus crashed her car into some guy this morning. She told the police the guy had been on his mobile and drinking a beer from a can at the time. The police said he was entitled to do what he wanted in his own conservatory I always thought microwaves came from friendly dwarves An elderly couple was watching a Discovery Channel special about a West African bush tribe whose men all had penises 24 inches long. When the black male reaches a certain age, a string is tied around his penis and on the other end is a weight. After a while, the weight stretches the penis to 24 inches. Later that evening as the husband was getting out of the shower, his wife looked at him and said, "How about we try the African string-and-weight procedure?" The husband agreed and they tied a string and a weight to his penis. A few days later, the wife asked the husband, "How is our little tribal experiment coming along?" "Well, it looks like we're about half way there," he replied. "Wow, you mean it's grown to 12 inches?" "No, it's turned black." I phoned the local council and asked what precautions they had taken against a Dalek invasion. They told me steps had been put in place. More Jokes by Spense

Laudrup on vacation was inside a church in Cardiff taking photographs when he noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read '£10,000 per call' The great Dane, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for. The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for £10,000 you could talk to God Laudrup thanked the priest and went along his way He then travelled to Merthyr, Barry, Abergaveny, Ebbw Vale, Penarth and Splott. In every church he saw the same golden telephone with the same '£10,000 per call' sign under it. Laudrup, upon leaving Cardiff decided to travel up to Swansea to see if Swansea fans had the same phone. He arrived Swansea, and again, in the first church he entered nearest the Liberty, there was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read '50 pence per call' Laudrup was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign. 'Padre, I've travelled all over south Wales and I've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to heaven, but in Cardiff the price was £10,000 per call. Why is it so cheap here?' The priest smiled and answered 'You're in Swansea now my son ... it's a local call'

@Dazthe Jack It's gone well. We look more exciting going forward and just a few players short of being a really good Premier League team Robert Day It's going great at the moment , we look like we can score at anytime this season Dan Creaser Another step forward as I see it! Carried on the good work of previous managers! Matt Myatt i feel they are doing the right things and playing well, moving and passing the ball and keeping it, feel some of laudrup comments aint been great saying we aint in the same league as the man city and the man utd but we are in the premiership. think swans should be looking at a top ten finish this year and keep the good work up

Gea D? Laudrup took over at a difficult time, I’ve said before that Brendan took over an easy job, we weren’t losing players; we had money in the bank and a good squad harmony who were pleased to see Souza leave. Well I think our Dane took over a difficult job: our players were very attached to the previous manager and we had a summer full of rumours and players departing. It’s been a few months now and we are in a position where we can begin to judge our manager. His tactics have been interesting; he plays at a far faster tempo to what we have seen before and he’s bold with substitutions. In the last two games (Southampton and Chelsea) he acted the very moment we went behind, both times mixing it about a bit and becoming more forward minded. It’s early to comment on his man-management style, we have had early rumours of discontent but that’s early days and it may be players who feel their nose has been put out of joint a bit. I like his dealings with the media although I do feel that he’s given himself away a few times and is possibly a bit to nice and honest at times. Predominantly he will be judged on his results and his results have been good, we lye mid-table and are playing good football. Replacing the players that we lost over the summer was always going to be his first important job and here is how I feel he has done:There is still a question mark over Chico, he’s been in and out of the team so its hard to really judge him but he’s doing well enough - even if slightly mental. Chico or Caulker? Caulker

Ki has been magnificent; he looks great on the ball and loves to find a pass, a real quality signing with more to come. Geraint Evans About as well as Allen or Ki? Ki I expected, a lot more dangerous in attack. Although Supposedly, we were signing Pablo whether Scotty went or not, bizarrely it with Huw at the top I'm fairly may turn out Scotty went to Man City for first team football. certain we'd do well with any Sinclair or Hernandez? Pablo manager. Except maybe ab The biggest loss over the summer by a untrained monkey or steve country mile (and I include Brendan in kean. that). Siggy seemed irreplaceable and although it would be great to have him @Chippie77 I think we’ve done outstanding this season playing behind his replacement, I can’t so far and were getting better say I’ve missed him. Siggy or Michu? Michu #Brendanwho?? Chris Stevens: He’s done well and improved the team in attacking areas

Overall I think Laudrup has done a great job and I’m excited to see his side develop.

There has been a few stand out performances this season. Chico at times looks briliant, then not so much so, then brilliant and the injured, Leon had the best game I’ve seen in a Swans shirt for years against Chelsea but then a little quiet against Southampon. Williams is getting there after a very poor start, JDG is showing signs of quality and sometimes not so much so and Ben Davies has become a man my son. But these are the guys who over the season have impressed:-

3rd

Michu: Whether upfront or in the attractive midfield role he’s our best player. Its a struggle to see anyone competition with him to be top scorer this year but he’s bringing players into the game and winning possession further upfield like we have never had before. He’s strong and a real handful for any marker. He is still learning his trade in the UK and heaven knows he may even improve but at £2 million he’s been the buy of the premiership so far. The scary thing is that he’s not even close to getting in the Spain squad. He’d walk into most. Rangel: He has been the best right back in the league both defensively and going forward. It seems that increasing amount of our moves start or has him involved at some point of it. He may have an unofficial more senior role in the club with the influx of new Spaniards or he may be enjoying the extra room in front of him while our wingers cut infield but he is clearly enjoying his football at the moment and I’m enjoying watching him create himself and the team chances. Ki: He nearly has it all and he nearly pays his own wages with additional shirt sales in his native country. A perfect 45 out of 45 second half passes against the European Champions will look good on any CV but the two last ditch challenges against Southampton will last longer in the memory. He seems to have more time on the ball than any other player and has a brilliant eye for a pass. I think there is more to come, I hope to see him impose himself more on games and control the midfield for an entire 90 minutes as against in patches as he has in certain games. Special Mention Gary Monk: I’m so f*cking board of defending our club captain. As I write this he has played two games and conceded two goals, one of which was against the European Champions. If anyone can convince Vincent Kompany to be our reserve centre back and earn a modest premiership wage while representing the club well and not rock the boat then please do so but until they can we have a player who can come in and do the job at any point, has never once let us down and it clearly respected and liked by his fellow professionals. Sometimes football fans disagree but other times some are just idiots – he’s as good a cover as we can ever realistically get and I’m proud that he’s our captain.

W N?

One of the magnificent seven and another player who never left these parts after arriving in South Wales. Matty got in touch with Paul Reid to see how he’s doing these days. Where are they now? Paul Reid Are you still involved in the game if so where? Yes I am manager at Afan Lido. What was your best Swans moment? The trip to Wembley last year with my son. And scoring on my debut at the vetch. What was your worst Swans moment? Being released by Brian Flynn. Any hard feeling towards the swans? No none at all, I still live in the area and its great to see them doing well in the premiership. Best player you’ve played with? Gary McAllsiter Best player you’ve played against? I have been racking my brains over that one it’s a tough one, I’m going to say Gifranco Zola. Any funny stories from your time at the swans? I’ve got a few, one was an away trip on new years day where Mumford had been on the piss the night before and despite us not being in the squad Flynn insisted that everyone travel to the game and I had to escort Mumf on and off the bus in to the service station because he couldn’t walk straight and he just kept asking me to hold on to him. Where do you think Swansea will finish this season? In the top 10 I think, I haven’t had much chance to watch them this season because I am managing on a Saturday with Lido but I think they will finish in the top ten. Who was the longest in the shower? Certainly not mumf…. Probably John Williams. If Harry potter has magical powers why does he need glasses? Fuck knows why does he? So he can pull all the birds. How doesn’t Tarzan have a beard? The trees knock it off when he swings through them. Huge thanks to Paul for putting up with Matty. Matty says he was a top bloke and great to deal with. Are you or do you know an Ex-Swan? Get in touch if you would like an interview with the one and only Matty.

Jack Swan Fantasy Football League WINNER IN OCTOBER

If you ever needed proof that anything is possible then this months winner is clearly that. In the average month simply being able to spoon feed himself is usually an achievment for Lewis Wheeler yet this October he done something remarkable and his team Bang Tidy had the most points in our Jack Swan league. He’s won himself a T-Shirt which will soon be covered in baby food stainsbut at least he’s won one. If he can then anyone can. Is Brendan the man for Liverpool? S

o Brendan is here to scout our players, drink Huw’s wine and moan about refereeing decisions (hopefully). It will be interesting to see what sort of reaction our faithful will give him, I expect it will be muted with the odd cheer and the odd swear word, with hopefully a final reaction of laughter. He will be up against a new Swansea; a different club to the one he left, the chances are that only Williams, Rangel and Leon will start from the starting eleven we finished the season with under the Northern Irishman. And Davies, Tremmel and Routledge will all have a point to prove with the later being the first name on my team sheet for that reason. It’s a new Swansea and the Brendan retuning is a different man to the one who left. Gone is the charismatic, laid back and instantly likeable man who players and fans alike seemed to adore. I can’t help but smile when I see him moaning about refs and having a far from relaxed approach to the media. His blood pressure must be far greater than at anytime under the Swans. He came out this week saying that if Liverpool finishes higher than last season it would be an achievement. As achievements go, I wouldn’t rate it that highly should he finish in the top eight. His squad bolster more England internationals than any other including the England captain, he’s been able to afford to loan a 35 million pound man out and he has the hottest striker in the league, even if he is a complete dick. His predecessor lost his job on his league form, guiding the club to two cup finals and winning one. Their currently lower in the league than under King Kenny, far from certain to qualify for the later stages of Uefa cup (or whatever it’s called these days) and already out of the league cup, being totally out played at home to a masterful side in a more developed stage of transition. So it would be fair to say that he hasn’t yet set the world alight at Merseyside. His philosophy (which he learned from Swansea) will take time to achieve but I can’t help but feel that Steven Gerrard doesn’t fit well

into a possession style of play. I’m a big fan of Stevie G and not just because he makes my hair style look more fashionable but he is an all or nothing kind of player, he plays killer passes very often which must frustrate a patient manager like Brendan. If there does become friction with the captain and the manager then I can only see one winner. King Kenny he may still be but Prince Stevie is becoming equally worshiped at Anfield and fans and board alike will back him over anyone if problems do arise. Its not an easy job, they don’t have the quality which they used to and should still have but their squad should easily be in the top six and challenging for forth place. There has been much wasted money over the years, Downing and Carroll being the obvious ones but the side Brendan inherited isn’t atrocious. The back 5 is the best outside of the top 3. Louis Suarez is the best striker on current form and the midfield boasts the England captain, £20 million man Joe Allen and then a choice of England internationals Jojo Shelvey or Hendersson (with a Brazilian international injured). Out wide they could have 2 England internationals in Sterling and Downing. The players I have left out will probably cost more and earn more than the whole England squad. I have no qualms with our promotion winning manager taking the Liverpool job as I have said in the past. Like many I have major qualms with him taking our greatest home grown talent for generations after saying that he wouldn’t and for that reason I don’t trust him as far as I could throw him which in his case isn’t very far. I do hope he fails, I hope to be able to see his face knowing that he was very lucky at the Swans and took it for granted. In my head I do think he’s a good manager and do think that he may get it right eventually but don’t tell me that the top 8 is an achievement.
