THE PROJECT
Over recent years, Glasgow Wood Recycling have become increasingly aware of an availability of used whisky casks in circulation, estimated to be approximately 250,000 per annum. No longer useful in the distillation process, the opportunity to think differently about how to maximise the inherent value of these end-of-life oak casks was something we couldn’t pass on. RE-CASK is Glasgow Wood Recycling’s research and development strand which investigates new products and opportunities for these oak barrels. Having developed innovative grading and processing techniques for the staves we’ve been able to unlock huge amounts of potential. As we work towards a more circular and low carbon future, RE-CASK presents an opportunity for us to move closer towards that goal, whilst also providing valuable training opportunities to help combat social exclusion and unemployment within the Glasgow area. We are eager to continue uncovering new applications and practical solutions for these barrels in an ever-changing World.

DESCRIPTION
Bench L1000 x W400 x H450 Carefully engineered to compliment the dimensions of the staves, the RE-CASK bench is composed of a stainless-steel frame and oak stave seating panel, each possessing a completely unique character. The bench is supplied in two parts and can be secured to the ground. These benches are incredibly hard wearing and durable, making them well suited to outdoor spaces.

Bench with Back L1000 x W500 x H700 Complimenting the unique character and dimensions of the staves, the RE-CASK bench with back is composed of a 3-piece, welded stainless steel frame, designed to offer extra support and comfort.

Double Bench L1000 x W800 x H450 Ideal for outdoor leisure and public spaces, the RE-CASK double bench is composed of a 2-piece welded stainless steel frame which showcases two oak stave seating panels. The double width of gives the bench multiple uses dictated by the user.

Standard Table L1500 x W750 x H800 Constructed with timeless industrial style, the RE-CASK table highlights each of the unique stave panels using a classic stainless steel frame. Made from reclaimed oak and high quality steel, the table provides excellent durability against general damage, corrosion and weathering – making it ideal for heavy use, time and time again. Paired with the RE-CASK Bench, our RE-CASK tables are guaranteed to create a striking focal point to any indoor or outdoor space.

Wheelchair Accessible Table L2000 x W750 x H800 With an unobstructed 500mm extension, this table is designed to cater to those in wheelchairs. Featuring two oak stave panels and a highly durable 2-piece stainless steel frame with legs matching the other pieces in the range, this is an inclusive, unique and hard-wearing outdoor table option.

The RE-CASK stool/side table mirrors the same timeless industrial style reflected throughout the range, featuring a crossbar for added stability which sits out of obstruction to avoid discomfort when seated.

Sustrans Bench L2785 x W850 x H550 Pocket Places: Kilbarchan Primary School Commissioned by Sustrans Scotland, Glasgow Wood Recycling were asked to design a bench which would help create a more attractive walk, scoot or cycle to school. Utilising the subtle curve of the oak staves and highlighting the warm honey and copper tones with a contrasting electric blue frame, the Sustrans bench truly is a statement piece. Sunk and secured into the ground, the bench sits at a comfortable height to take a special pit stop on the daily commute.
