THE PROJECT
Over recent years, Glasgow Wood Recycling have become increasingly aware of an availability of used whisky casks in circulation, estimated to be approximately 250,000 per annum. No longer useful in the distillation process, the opportunity to think differently about how to maximise the inherent value of these end-of-life oak casks was something we couldn’t pass on. RE-CASK is Glasgow Wood Recycling’s research and development strand which investigates new products and opportunities for these oak barrels. Having developed innovative grading and processing techniques for the staves we’ve been able to unlock huge amounts of potential. As we work towards a more circular and low carbon future, RE-CASK presents an opportunity for us to move closer towards that goal, whilst also providing valuable training opportunities to help combat social exclusion and unemployment within the Glasgow area. We are eager to continue uncovering new applications and practical solutions for these barrels in an ever-changing World.

Full Stave Cladding 2400L x 600W x 70D (approx., depth may vary) Utilising the full length of the whisky cask, the full stave cladding showcases each and every centimetre of the beautiful warm copper and cool silvery tones. Secured onto plywood, the staves are configured to create a simple but very effective pattern.

DESCRIPTION
Moving slightly away from the distinct curve present in the barrel, the block cladding still ensures the unique copper and silver tones are centre stage in each and every panel. Secured onto plywood, the staves are arranged to create a brick-like configuration which can be placed vertically or horizontally.

DESCRIPTION
Adding another layer of colour to contrast or compliment the abundance of tones present in the whisky casks, the checkerboard cladding is capable of providing a pretty unique pop to any indoor space. The choice is all yours!
