This year we find Cinderella transported to the Highlands. We’re also looking at ever more imaginative ways to stage the show. Last year’s sets were fully revolving – this year we’re using a pop up and sliding storybook set.” The story begins with trouble at Castle Lockheart. Laird Lockheart has run out of money and needs his son Rory to marry a rich bride at the Hunt Ball to save the estate. Cue WAGs Ream and Jell (Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters from Essex), a hapless Buttons, the ‘one wumman tartan army’ that is Nanny Mack aka Fairy McGodmammy (Fife’s favourite dame, Billy Mack). Add to the mix some remote controlled haggii, the Great White Stag, an elusive glass slipper, and who knows what will happen at the all important midnight hour?

This will be Jonathan’s 15th panto at Adam Smith Theatre and he will once again be directing Fife’s most popular traditional pantomime, Cinderella. For the first time he is also writing and directing Carnegie Hall’s Christmas show and bringing all the treasured ingredients of pantomime into a brand new story – Sergeant Cracker’s Christmas Quest. Although he is, understandably, a very busy man at the moment, we spoke to him to find out more about the shows we have in store for you. “Cinderella has always been my favourite ever fairy story and this year we have an extra special Scottish twist.

Over at Carnegie Hall, everyone’s getting really excited about Sergeant Cracker’s Christmas Quest. “What a challenge to create a brand new Christmas Show for the whole

family, with marvellous music, “cracking” characters and a fabulously festive story. I hope with Sergeant Cracker we have produced a Christmas classic for this generation”. We enter the Big Ones’ house on Christmas Eve as the Christmas decorations come to life. The race is on to reach the top of the tree and it’ll be tree-mendous fun! Who will win? Will it be old Sergeant Cracker and his best pal Flora the Fairy or will brand new decoration Tiffany and the naughty ‘Aye’ Pod triumph?

We’ve a terrific cast including the popular Iain Wotherspoon as Sgt Cracker and Nicky Auld (of The Happy Gang) as Flora; an enchanting set, original music composed especially for the show by BAFTA award-winning Karen MacIver and a ‘bauble’ choir of talented local youngsters. With plenty of opportunity for audience participation and singalongs – there is also a special guest appearance by a certain red-suited gentleman from Lapland!

Both shows are incredible value for money with family tickets and group rates available. Sergeant Cracker opens 30 November and runs till Dec 26th with tickets from £5– £11. Cinderella opens on 14th December and runs till 14th Jan with tickets from £9 –15.50.

Cinderella – extra adult Party Night Fri 6 Jan – due to popular demand.

A Scalextric set which I discovered, already assembled in a modest figure of eight, early on Christmas morning, probably in 1968. My father and sister had put it together the night before and I can still remember the faint smell of burning which the contact brushes generated... they’d obviously been playing with it for some time. What would you like to find in your stocking on Christmas morning? This will seem strange, but a bottle of good olive oil... but not with an ill-fitting top, which happened last year! What’s your idea of the perfect Christmas meal? Like millions of other people, I like turkey on Christmas Day. Conversely (and I am probably in a minority) I really like brussel sprouts – as long as they are not over-cooked and are salted with lots of butter coating them. Do you have a signature dish like brussel sprouts or glazed carrots? Not a dish as such but a couple of ingredients: I make a tasty chestnut stuffing, and I also follow a very simple Delia Smith recipe for cranberry and orange sauce.

Do you have a favourite Christmas song and if so, what is it? All of the ones that feature in my White Christmas show! In particular, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Silver Bells, and Winter Wonderland – it’s all about triggering memories of happy Christmases in the past. What’s your top Christmas movie? Some Like It Hot! with Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis. Not exactly a Christmas-theme but one of the funniest films ever made. How will you be spending Christmas this year? Relaxing with friends and trying not to feel guilty about over-indulging... perhaps it’d be better to avoid over-indulging, rather than the associated guilt! You can see Todd perform live at Rothes Halls, Glenrothes in Todd Gordon’s White Christmas on Fri 23 December 7.30pm Tickets £16 (conc. £14). Pre-theatre meals available.

Don’t forget we have Gift Vouchers which make a great Christmas present. You can buy and exchange these at any of our venues.

make your own medal You will see in the picture of Sergeant Cracker that he has been awarded several medals for his services to Christmas. What we’d like you do is make your own medals and wear them to the show. Medals are often awarded to people as a form of recognition for their achievements and also to commemorate particular events. So you can make your own medal or one to award some-one special. Pick up a Medal Activity Sheet from Box Office when you book your tickets – we’ve got free ribbon and bottle tops too! Send us a picture of your medal to susanm.drummond@onfife.com and we'll display them in the venue & on our website. Sergeant Cracker will choose his favourites and the winners will receive a goodie bag!
