Ex Machina

Trash

Director by Alex Garland Starring Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson Ex Machina is a dazzling sci-fi thriller in which a young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a female A.I. A directorial debut for Garland, writer of The Beach and 28 Days Later, Ex Machina is wonderfully seductive sci-fi cinema that will haunt you long after the credits roll.

Directed by Stephen Daldry Starring Rooney Mara, Martin Sheen, Wagner Moura Brazil may still be a place of sunshine and carnival for many Europeans – but Trash shows us the seedy underbelly of a country gripped by poverty. Two boys find a wallet in amongst the daily detritus of their local dump. Only when the local police show up, offering a handsome reward, do the boys realise the importance of their discovery. Written by Richard Curtis, Trash is a film about finding hope in the unlikeliest of places.

Directed by J.C. Chandor Starring Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, David Oyelowo A Most Violent Year dramatizes the struggles of New York City during the winter of 1981, the most brutal and cruel year in the city’s history, and no time in which to attempt to live out the American Dream. Directed by Julius Avery Starring Alicia Vikander, Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites Writer-director Julius Avery’s debut feature film begins in a maximum-security prison where the 19-year-old protagonist, JR (Thwaites), is given a stark choice: experience all kinds of heinous assault at the hands of the yeti-like inmates or obtain protection at a cost.
