We can comfortably say that it has been a good and very cold winter season but, fortunately, we will have to say goodbye to winter and welcome back summer soon.

What I can say is that the Seaward community must be commended for helping, supporting, and understanding the many changes and challenges that occurred, especially in the past few weeks during the unfortunate day of break-ins. We would like to thank all residents for their

patience and support during the investigation.

From a security perspective, we are still one of the most secure and safest estates in Ballito. I want to thank our Security Trustee, as well as all SEMHOA members, for their great support and the incredible involvement when it comes to security matters.

Being on the front line, I have experienced the good and bad of circumstances, especially when trying to enforce SEMHOA rules and regulations. It is understandable that

not everybody will agree on the rules, etc., but then I ask residents to contact the SEMHOA offices and discuss their grievances and it will be handled in an appropriate way. You can also log a complaint on the Glovent App.

In closing, I want to thank residents for making the effort to treat security staff tremendously and wish all the ladies of the Seaward community a happiest Women’s Day this August.

In this edition, we meet this close-knit family who loves the fulfilling and active lifestyle offered in Ballito and Seaward.

I’m Elsbeth, a mom and the founder and owner of Utopia Memorable Luxury Holidays . I have an unwavering dedication to my business and community. My love for all things Ballito shines through my strong foundation and unwavering support for the town I call home.

When I’m not busy making dreams come true for my clients, I enjoy indulging in my passion for exercise and fitness. Despite my love for adventure, I am also a devoted homebody, relishing moments of tranquillity whenever time allows. Family holds a special place in my heart, and I cherish spending

quality time with my loved ones. My children, Stefan and Annabelle, bring boundless joy and energy into my life!

Stefan is seven years old and attends Ashton International College. He is a sports fanatic through and through and possesses an insatiable passion for all ball sports, be

it soccer, basketball or cricket. Stefan also thrives in the water, where his swimming skills truly shine. Athletics, another one of his many talents, showcases his determination and competitive spirit.

Annabelle, on the other hand, is a remarkable nine-yearold who will be celebrating her 10th birthday in October. Academically gifted, she excels in Grade 4 at Ashton, demonstrating a love for learning and a thirst for knowledge. Her artistic flair is evident in her adoration for art, and her commitment to activities such as taekwondo and marimba highlights her diverse interests.

Completing the family are our two furry companions, Kelsey and Colby. These lovable pets bring an abundance of laughter and playfulness to our lives, truly making the household feel complete.

Two years ago, our family made Seaward Estates our

home, a decision we haven't regretted! With a spacious garden and refreshing pool, our home provides the perfect haven for relaxation and enjoyment. The Estate's central location is a tremendous asset, situated near the school, my business endeavours, and our network of friends and family.

As October 2023 approaches, marking the second anniversary of our move to Seaward Estates, I have been reflecting on the incredible memories we have made in Ballito. From embracing an active lifestyle to fostering strong family bonds, our lives are a testament to the beauty and fulfilment that this remarkable coastal town offers. With each passing day, our family continues to create unforgettable moments that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Caroline Masuku, Cindy Hartley, Melanie Pillay, Nonkululeko Dube, Pravina Chetty, Victoria Radebe, and Zama Khumalo share a resolute belief in the power of unity, whereby their daily encouragement and collaborative efforts enable

them to face each day with unwavering confidence and deliver their utmost excellence.

Harmoniously working hand in glove with the esteemed gentlemen of the SEMHOA family, they fortify their collective resolve and tirelessly strive towards a brighter future.

In celebration of Women’s Day, we catch up with a few lovely local ladies who share all the details about their fantastic businesses.

I am the Director of GC Solar KZN, a part of the national company GC Solar South Africa. I moved to Ballito from Gauteng to join my husband in the business. GC Solar KZN provides hybrid inverters, lithium batteries and other solar components. We will gladly provide free advice to design a reliable solar solution. I own the Ballito-based dog hotel Poppy’s Pampered Pooches. My husband and I have a huge passion for dogs, which is noticeable from the moment you step foot into our selfbuilt dog hotel. Leaving your beloved pets behind when you go on holiday is not easy for most. At Poppy’s Pampered Pooches, your pets have 24/7 human interaction and are free to run, play, chill out on a couch, watch ‘dog TV’, and socialise with other dogs. At night, they sleep inside one of the many hotel rooms that we have on-site. Our carefully sourced staff are all studying animal welfare and have a love for these furry family members, too.

The main aim is to enable a pet’s human family to go on holiday without having the stress looming over their heads of whether their pets are safe and happy. We also offer daycare sessions and an added pickup and dropoff service.

I am an attorney at law and the Director of AR Attorneys and Engineers, which was established in 2001 with branches based in Ballito and Phoenix. Seaward Estates residents celebrated Mandela Day by dedicating 67 minutes to helping those less fortunate. They scoured their living spaces to gather valuable items worthy of donation to the SPCA second-hand store.

Many also generously contributed dog and cat food to support this important cause. Their efforts are truly commendable!

To the SPCA, the impact of these contributions extends far beyond the mere act of donation. They are making a tangible difference in the lives of our fellow beings, both human and furry friends alike.

The residents’ collective actions signify another significant stride towards fostering unity within the community of Seaward Estates. Such acts of selflessness and compassion create an environment where care and empathy thrive.

COFFEE DELIGHTS

If you’re a lover of sweet treats and a good cup of coffee, we have the recipes for you! Society Coffee shares their java-flavoured desserts that are easy to make and mouthwateringly decadent.

BROWNIES

Serves 12

IngredIents

• 115g butter, unsalted

• 115g plain chocolate 70% cocoa solids

• 1 tbsp Society Coffee mochaccino powder

• 1 tbsp coffee liqueur, rum or brandy

• 125g dark brown sugar

• 125g caster sugar

• 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

• 3 eggs

• 85g plain all-purpose flour

• 55g nuts, toasted

• 1 tsp icing sugar to decorate

method

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a 23cm baking tin. Melt the butter, chocolate, and Society Coffee mochaccino powder in a small pan and set aside to cool. Add the liqueur to the mix. Add all of the other ingredients to the pan and stir well to combine.

4. Pour the mixture into your prepared tin and bake for approximately 35 minutes.

1. When baking brownies, a skewer should come out brown with a tiny bit of batter attached to it when they are done. You want them to be just a bit gooey inside.

2. Toast the nuts in a small dry pan for barely a minute till they go golden and release their nutty aroma. Tip them out of the pan immediately to stop them from cooking further.

• 2 1/2 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil

• 3 tbsp milk

• 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

• 3 tbsp flour

• 1/4 cup sugar

• 1/4 tsp baking powder

• 2 tbsp cocoa powder

• 2 tbsp Society Coffee mochaccino powder

• 2 tbsp chocolate chips

(optional)

• Pinch of salt

method

In a large microwave-safe mug mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cocoa, Society Coffee mochaccino powder, salt and chocolate chips.

Add the oil, milk and vanilla extract to the mixture, then stir thoroughly until all of the ingredients are combined.

3. Cook in the microwave for one and a half to two minutes until the mixture stops rising.

4. Set aside to cool for a few minutes, then enjoy!

• 1 cup sugar

• 2 cups flour

• 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

• 1/2 tsp salt

• 1 cup hazelnuts, coarsely chopped

• 2 tbsp Society Coffee hazelnut cappuccino powder

method

1. Preheat the oven to 175°C.

2. Spray the baking tray with nonstick spray or line it with baking paper.

3. Soften the butter and then beat it together with the sugar until the mixture is smooth.

4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and then beat until smooth.

5. Add the sifted flour, bicarbonate of soda, salt, hazelnuts and Society Coffee hazelnut cappuccino powder to the mixture, and then mix with a spoon until all of the ingredients are combined.

6. Once the batter is completely mixed, use

a small spoon to drop the dough into the tray. Make sure that they are evenly spaced apart.

7. Bake for eight to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

8. Set the cookies aside on a tray to cool.

I love my job. Working for IPSS is very important to me. I’m happy I got stationed at Seaward. My colleagues are friendly and my manager is very respectful. I love talking to the residents every morning. They are all so friendly and loving. The Seaward staff is also very helpful and welcoming.
