Sizzling Summer Celebrations

Hello, summer! To celebrate, we hosted a festive Market Day for the residents on 30 September 2023. We will tell you more about the festivities, which were enjoyed by all. Residents are invited to raise a glass on 4 November 2023, as we’ll be hosting a wine-tasting evening featuring handcrafted selections from Friesland Family Wines in Stellenbosch. Stay tuned for more details – we promise it’ll be a “grape” time!

AGM Updates and Board Announcements

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was scheduled for 11 September 2023. However, it was adjourned due to the required quorum not being present. The postponed AGM was held on 18 September 2023. The meeting approved the new proposed

Memorandum of Incorporation for the Estate. The minutes of the meeting will be circulated.

In other Estate news, Henk Lindeque resigned as Director of Legal in July 2023. We wish to thank him for his service to the Blue Gill and Waterfront community. We did not receive any new nominations for Directors, and the Board will remain the same for the next financial year.

A Farewell and a Warm Welcome

We bid a heartfelt farewell to Liz Swart, who has expertly managed our finances for the past decade. As she embarks on new adventures, we extend our warmest wishes for her continued success. We are pleased to introduce Christine Cooley as our new Financial Administrator. Go to page 09 to get acquainted with Christine and learn more about her journey with us.

On to a building bulletin: residents still busy with maintenance and building projects should take note of the closing date, by which tasks will need to be completed before the festive season. Builders’ holidays will commence on Friday, 15 December 2023, and contractors will only be allowed back on site from 8 January 2024. Residents are requested to plan any new building activities or maintenance projects outside these dates. Only contractors who will attend to emergencies will be allowed into the Estate with permission from the Estate Manager.

Refuse collection is on Mondays, including public holidays, except Christmas Day.

Heritage Day was celebrated on Sunday, 24 September 2023. We hope all our residents enjoyed the day with friends and family in a manner true to their heritage.

The Friesland Family Wine tasting event will be on 4 November 2023. Stay tuned! We’ll pour out more details as the event approaches.

Meet Christine Cooley

Charting the Financial Course at Blue Gill

A warm welcome to Christine Cooley, the newly appointed Financial Administrator at Blue Gill. She has been working as a bookkeeper for a construction company for 20 years and started her accounting career in 1997 at an auditor’s firm. Christine was born in Vryburg (North West) and grew up in Pretoria until she was 12. She has been a resident of Boksburg since 1990. She is the proud mother of two children, her son and daughter, who have already started their careers. Christine loves being active and around family and friends.

Welcome, Christine! We know you are suitable for the job and will proudly serve our community!

Security Enhancements

We are happy to report that we have had no serious incidents for the last two months. Maintenance has been done to the cameras and the electrical fence during this period.

Stellar Security Stops Cable Thieves

and Target officers, arrested five suspects next to the Estate for stealing cables in Glen Marais. Mr Wickes Pretorius from Fidelity Security Services handed the stolen cables and suspects to Kempton Park SAPS for processing. Well done to a well-coordinated security operation and for keeping our areas around the Estates crime-free and safe!

Solar Project Progress and Upcoming Decisions

With the help of an electrical engineer, the Directors compiled a tender document for the solar requirements for the Estate as presented at the Special General Meeting on 27 May 2023. Various solar companies visited the Estate to tender for the project, which closed on 7 September 2023. The tenders were evaluated by the Directors in consultation with Consolidated Power Engineering (Pty) Ltd, the consulting electrical engineers for the project and Solar Power, a division of Minobase (Pty) Ltd were appointed.

The ultimate South African one-pot wonder! A traditional potjie filled to the brim with tender meat and veggies is a wonderful way to feed a crowd on a special occasion. This beef and mushroom potjie recipe is so versatile because you can add any other veggies of your choice!

INGREDIENTS

• 45ml (3 tbsp) vegetable oil

• 1 large onion, peeled and chopped

• 3 large cloves garlic, peeled and crushed

• 2 leeks, sliced

• 1kg beef stewing steak, cubed

• 250ml red wine

• 100g tomato paste

• 4 carrots, peeled and cubed

• 2 punnets button mushrooms, halved

• 4 cobs of corn (mielies), cut into 3 pieces (each mielie)

• 5ml (1 tsp) Robertsons thyme

• 1 Knorr Beef Stock Pot

• 1 L water

• 1 large handful green beans, trimmed and halved

• 1 sachet (50g) Knorr Beef & Tomato Soup

add to the oil. Brown the meat well, in batches if needed. Remove from the pot and set aside.

3. Mix in the red wine and tomato paste and set aside.

4. Add the chopped onions, garlic, leaks and thyme to the pot. Cook until there is some caramelisation. Return the meat to the pot and start to layer up the celery, carrots and cobs of corn.

5. Mix the Knorr Beef Stock Pot and Knorr Beef & Tomato Soup into a litre of water and pour over the ingredients in the pot. Then, add the red wine and tomato paste mixture. The liquid should just cover the meat. Place the lid on the pot and leave it to cook for 1.5 to two hours or until the meat is tender. Do not be tempted to stir. Remember to keep adding coals as and when they are needed so the heat remains underneath the pot.

METHOD

1. Heat the potjie pot, add the oil, and leave until smoking.

We have noticed various dogs roaming the Estate and request residents to keep their animals secure on their premises. Please remember that your animal is your responsibility, dogs and cats alike! We thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter.

• Adhere to the speed limit, a maximum of 40 kilometres per hour.

• Stop at stop streets! We are watching and will be taking random videos.

• Secure your animals on your property.

• Walk your dog on a leash. Pick up excrement as per Estate rules. Nobody wants to step in or have to clean up your animal’s parcels, which is solely your responsibility. Bags and bins have been provided around the dam area to assist. Please use these.

• Please attend to your dog’s constant barking.

• The use of lawnmowers on a Sunday must only be between 09:00 and 13:00 as well as between 16:00 and 18:00. No exceptions!
