SCHOOLMA TRIX

We understand learning as a full formation focusing on the intersection between intellect, body, emotion, individual and collective matters, so ethics and morals are highly valuable notions in our community. We are committed to creating an atmosphere of respect, in which all members of our community are valued and appreciated, acting directly on the construction of an environment in which our learners are able to develop their moral character and to understand the implications of their actions.

We teach our learners how to recognize the importance of respecting others in their beliefs based on our Honor Code, which states three fundamental pillars:

Respect for Itself Respect for Others Respect for the Environment

To nurture an ethical and moral behavior in our learners we offer a solid base of knowledge with tools and resources such as classes, assemblies, talks, field trips and fairs aiming the questioning of decision making, its problems and solutions in a great culture of thinking, developing learner’s critical thinking and inspiring them to apply the Habits of Minds into our routines. These resources support our learners on reflecting about their choices, its pros and cons and to develop a better understanding of their decisions.

WHAT'STHE M A T R I X A B O U T ?

In order to make our learners conscious of their actions, we created a referential Matrix proposing different consequences by levels. The Matrix proposes guidance for a healthy and constructive demeanor in our campus, always considering dialogue openness, active listening and reparation as the source for the construction and strengths of relations in our community. Our consequence levels are:

Strike: an orientation registered as a warning by the educator when needed Dean's Department verbal orientation and/or Reflection Form (via Google Forms)

Written Warning

Suspension: learner’s suspension for a specific period. The learner must stay at home during the established period doing activities aligned with the ongoing classes as directed by educators.

GUIDE LINES

We understand every space in our campus as a learning space and every break or lunch time as a learning time. This mindset is set so learners are able to live an active and meaningful learning experience within the whole school period, developing integrity and community values based on our daily Habits of Mind. Our referential matrix supports the expectations that we have on our learners, guiding them at every space in order to understand these expectations, aiming for the learner's self regulation and autonomy.

BLUE COURT, RED COURT, SOCCER FIELD

We expect learners to be able to spend time together in a respectful and healthy way, to develop teamwork, live in harmony and in a deep cooperation during their playtime. We strongly believe in the power of sports on learning since respect for itself, respect for others and respect for the rules of the game are essential notions for the development of a strong and healthy community. The Habits of Mind mobilized for this objective are:

Thinking Interdependently Managing Impulsivity

CAFETERIA

We understand lunch time as a crucial moment for learners to develop community values, self regulation and responsibility. Since the cafeteria is an active space, learners should be able to understand that a strong behavior keeps the cafeteria clean and tidy for everyone and avoids food waste, essential notions to build a strong community. The Habits of Mind mobilized for this objective are:

Thinking Interdependently Gathering Data Through All Senses

Listening with Understanding and Empathy

Managing Impulsivity

AUDITORIUM

Our auditorium is one of the most important learning spaces on campus with an energetic routine of international conferences, events, classes and overall learning opportunities. We expect learners to develop interaction skills, attention, active listening, critical thinking and community values in this learning space. The Habits of Mind mobilized for this objective are:

Questioning and Posing Problems

Remaining Open to Continuous Learning

Responding with Wonderment and Awe

Listening with Understanding and Empathy

MAKER SPACE AND MULTILABS

The Maker Space and Multilabs are the core of our community since our focus on Project Based Learning demands an advanced space of technology for project development. Since this is such an important space, our expectations for learners when using any Maker Space ou Multilabs are much higher in a sense that precaution, responsibility, maturity and focus are non negotiable guidelines here. Handling tools and developing high tech projects demands safety, which demands the development of self regulation and autonomy. The Habits of Mind mobilized for this objective are:

Taking Responsible Risks

Creating, Imagining, and Innovating Striving for Accuracy Thinking Interdependently
