Covid Policy Reminder
"The Downeasters Chorus takes the health of our members very seriously. Members and guests are welcome to come to our meetings, as long as you are feeling well. We generally follow CDC guidelines. We require that you can produce evidence of at least the first two Covid vaccines if asked. Plus, do not visit us for at least 10 days after a flu-like illness or if you tested positive for Covid, and wait 5 days if you believe you have been in contact with someone who is ill or tested positive for Covid. If in doubt, please take a Covid test the day you plan to come."
Thank you for Monday night's rehearsal - I was having a rough, long day and that rehearsal was just what I needed to pick me right up, so thank you all!!!
In competition chorus, we got reps on both the competition songs. That video will be online tomorrow, and I encourage everyone to take a listen and work on the item we've talked about the past months and work on those items this week.
In performing chorus, there was a simple revelation - easy, relaxed singing sounds better, no matter what song we sing. So that is our goal for the month - practice that feeling of no pressure, no tension singing every single week!!! Aside from that, fix the rhythms in Blue Skies and Softly, please!!!
Next week, we will continue building How High the Moon in prep for its debut on the Clam Festival Stage! In addition, we will work more on Blue Skies to bring more of the easy singing to that song, as well as Softly. We will also spend some time with Caroline and Cop on the Beat. See you Monday! -CH
Downeasters - Clam Festival
Opportunity to Volunteer, Friendly Reminder
I hope you all have had a great week. I’m following up to remind you to sign-up and volunteer at the upcoming Clam Festival. The festival is a fantastic event that brings community together and it’s a critical fundraising event for our organization.
I’m pleased to report that as of today, we have 44% of our volunteer spots filled. Kudos to the group and thank you in advance for your willingness to participate. I would like to note that our busiest days will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Here is a quick summary of where we stand:
- Friday, 27/43 spots, 63% filled
- Saturday, 15/50 spots, 30% filled
- Sunday, 16/47 spots, 34% filled
I would like to ask that you give consideration to those days where our current volunteer commitments are lower (Sat/Sun). Further, I wanted to let you know that I plan to extend a volunteer invitation to Royal River and open registrations for them starting on 6/15. Therefore, please set aside some time before then to ensure that you have secured your opportunity.

Downeaster! 6.7.23
Music Medics Update.
We had another good Music Medics meeting and practice on May 31st at the home of Arne Gronningsater’s. Thank You All!
The songs that were reviewed for our presentation on June 20th were:
My Wild Chubby Cat (tune of My Wild Irish Rose)/ Bb
{Insert Name} We Love You (tune of Little Eyes) B
Blue Skies/ Gb
Bubble Gum /D
Irish Blessing/ F
You’ve Got A Friend/
After checking with The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital coordinator, Sharon advised that the presentation room is still not available and has asked that no more than four come for the June 20th presentation so we can sing room to room. She also expects that the next time we sing they should be ready for a group of eight!
We will be working on the above songs at our next official meeting on June 15th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at my home. The address is 36 Ambrose Circle, Gray, ME. Located off of Egypt Rd. in the May Meadow Woods neighborhood.
Medical scrubs will need to be purchased at Walmart. You will find them near the changing rooms. You should look for the light blue Scrubstar brand. Get a Unisex VNeck top and Unisex Drawstring pants. I would recommend trying them on as the sizes vary in this style. I have been told that those that participate in this group will need to keep their receipts so that they can be reimbursed by the chapter. Total cost for top and pants should be $29.46.
I so appreciate working with all of you in this community venture. The sound and presentation moves are really coming together.
If you have any questions, please connect with me at 207.233.1116 or glwyell@aol.com
Thanks, Glenn

Crossroads - Retirement Performance of Lucky Old Sun
YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSZGHn_qc_s
This remarkable performance from the 2009 International Champions, Crossroads, was one we will never forget. Lucky Old Sun was the quartet's signature song and their retirement performance was a gift to us all.
From YouTube:
Tim Waurick Tag- When I Leave The World Behind
YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYaDV04Y0pY
The classic tag to When I Leave The World Behind, but on steroids. There are different variations of this tag, but the original extended tag came from the legendary Bob Disney and the 1992 Mid-Atlantic District Champions, Arcade. The interp and other fun alterations to the original are as sung by Multi-Time International Finalist and MAD Quartet Champions, Wheelhouse. Truly a classic tag on steroids! Out of all of my tags, this is actually one of my favorites that I've done...perhaps because it was one of the early ones from my childhood.
