Covid Policy Reminder

"The Downeasters Chorus takes the health of our members very seriously. Members and guests are welcome to come to our meetings, as long as you are feeling well. We generally follow CDC guidelines. We require that you can produce evidence of at least the first two Covid vaccines if asked. Plus, do not visit us for at least 10 days after a flu-like illness or if you tested positive for Covid, and wait 5 days if you believe you have been in contact with someone who is ill or tested positive for Covid. If in doubt, please take a Covid test the day you plan to come."

Music Notes…

It's still early, and we're a few months out from Clam Festival. But now is the time to start looking ahead to July dates you may want to choose for your volunteer time in the Downeasters booth. Here are the 2023 dates and needs so you can plan your days and shifts:

• Wednesday, July 19 - need 12 people for gear transport and setup

• Thursday, July 20 - need 10 people for cleaning and final prep

• Fri to Sun July 21 to 23 - need 15+ people to run the booth

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Clam Festival Sign-up App

Like last year you will choose your days via the Signup.com app. We will again solicit the help of our colleagues the Nor'easters and Royal River Chorus, but only after there is ample time given to our members, friends, and family to signup. RRC and possibly another Yarmouth org will cover us while we sing on Saturday.

Also, Ryan Norfleet is helping me as co-manager this year. So you will see him on the scene via emails and SignUp.com. For now, save the dates July 19-23 and more info will come soon. If you have any questions please contact me.

PS: if you did not sign up via SignUp.com last year, please send me a separate note so I can add you to the app.

Music Medics update 5/19/23

The Portland Music Medics are about a month away from their first visit with the patients at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Four to Eight singers will be presenting the songs we have been learning in a 15 to 20-minute program. It is time that we have a 1-hour practice to go over the songs and make sure they are in good shape.

For those of you who are planning on being a part of the Music Medics please review the following info.

Arne Gronningsater has graciously provided a place for us to rehearse. On Tuesday, May 23rd from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm we will be meeting at Arne’s home at 100 Summit St., in Portland to rehearse all our Music Medics music. Please come prepared to sing the following songs:

You’ve Got a Friend in Me /Eb

My Wild Chubby Cat (tune of My Wild Irish Rose)/ Bb

{Insert Name} We Love You (tune of Little Eyes) B

Blue Skies/ Gb

Bubble Gum /D

Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie /Ab

Irish Blessing/ F

You should also start becoming acquainted with:

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes /Bb

When You wish upon a Star / Eb

Medical scrubs will need to be purchased at Walmart. You will find them near the changing rooms. You should look for the light blue Scrubstar brand. Get a Unisex VNeck top and Unisex Drawstring pants. I would recommend trying them on as the sizes vary in this style. I have been told that those that participate in this group will need to keep their receipts so that they can be reimbursed by the chapter. Total cost for top and pants should be $29.46. I have an example set I will bring to chorus.

I am looking forward to working with all of you in this community venture.

If you have any questions, please connect with me at 207.233.1116 or glwyell@aol.com.

Performed live at the Coliseum in Seattle, Washington during the Barbershop Harmony Society's 1983 International Convention

From YouTube:

Tim Waurick - If Chopin sang in a barbershop quartet…

YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KQYcZtFpwQ

This incredible tag was arranged by David Wright and originally sung by the Ambassadors of Harmony as part of their International Championship set in 2012! The music for this was derived from Frédéric Chopin's Étude No. 3 in E, Op. 10 and is practically identical to the song “Tristesse."
