LakeNationalManyara Park

Imagine the sight of seven mature female lions, each and every one resting in the same three after the long night hunting for food. This is one of the marvelous memories you can take back home after visiting this small, but wildlife rich park at the edge of the Great Rift Valley.

Alovely unspoiled paradise and a scenic gem located 125 km west of Arusha town on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti in the northern tourism circuit of Tanzania, nestling by the wall of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park is one of the oldest and most popular sanctuaries in East Africa. The park has a large variety of habitats, making it possible to support a wealth of

wildlife in its small area. The main habitats include the shallow soda lake itself which occupies 77% of the National Park total area of 330 sq. km, the ground water forest, open grassland, acacia woodland and the rift wall.

Manyara’s dramatic setting was once extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest that I had seen in Africa” and by documentary maker Colin

Willock as “the most luxuriant place in the whole East African Rift”, after visiting the scenic gem Lake Manyara, which is stretching for 50km along the base of the rustygold 600 metre high Rift Valley escarpment. Maybe the short, but full of animals and birdlife, game viewing circuits of Lake Manyara could be described as an introduction of what to expect from your wildlife adventure in Tanzania.

THE WILDLIFE

Upon entering the Lake Manyara National Park visitors are greeted by ground water forest which boasts with ancient mahogany trees, giant fig trees as well as kapok trees. It is a common site to see the crystalclear water seeping directly out of the ground. This area is always lush

green and is also home to the olive baboons who proudly call Manyara their home. Troops of up to 150 individuals joyfully playing and foraging around in the forest can be seen.

Your game viewing here will take you through nature at altitudes between 900 and 1800 meters above sea level. Contrasting with the intimacy of the forest is the grassy floodplain and its expansive views eastward, across the alkaline lake, to the jagged blue volcanic peaks that rise from the endless Maasai Steppes.

Large buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds congregate on these grassy plains, as do giraffes – some so dark in coloration that they appear to be black from a distance. Inland

THE KARIBU KILIFAIR 2023

One of East Africa’s biggest tourism Expo

One of East Africa’s biggest tourism Expo, Karibu-Kilifair took place from 2-4 June 2023 at Magereza Ground in Arusha, Tanzania. The event brought together investors, tour operators, hoteliers, SMEs and several other tourism stakeholders from around the world as part of efforts to adequately support and showcase the tourism industry in East Africa.

The Karibu-Kilifair expo gets even better in 2023 as the three-day tourism expo event attracts over 9000 participants as Tanzania Travel Industry Recovers.

Under the repeated motto “Where business meets wildlife”, KARIBU-KILIFAIR once again provided an excellent marketing platform for the Arusha & Kilimanjaro Region, for Tanzania and beyond, to establish new business relations and to improve existing contacts. The expo was also used in promoting Meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) as a potential tourism product. Tanzania is one of the few countries in the world where MICE can benefit from the attractive wildlife.

Participants included tourism organisations, tour operators, owners of hotels and lodges

as well as safari equipment suppliers. Essentially all parties involved in the tourism industry in East Africa presented their products and services to an audience of more than 9000 patrons among them trade visitors and members of the public.

This year “KARIBU-KILIFAIR” witnessed more than 430 exhibitors from 15 different countries with almost 500 registered travel agents from 38 countries, as well as approximately 9000+ interested travel visitors attending the show.

Parallel to the exhibition, the Karibu-Kilifair 2023 expo comes up with a varied of side-show events such as entertainment programs, business “faceface” networking and gave opportunity for diverse speakers from all around the

These are two events which we merge together, Karibu fair and Killi fair, which makes it a big event, and the purpose is to make sure we serve the tourism industry by bringing all the East African tour operators and others from across the world together as an exhibition and invite the world to come and meet them to buy and to sell the services which are found in East African countries.

world to speakers to conduct educational and informative seminars during the event to present their organisations, products, or messages.

The trade fair provided an excellent opportunity to network and make new contacts with tourism partners of the tourism in Tanzania in addition to learning about local tourist attractions. The fair also had the character of a business networking event for the tourism industry, in combination with a community fair to attract local

people, families & ex-pats on the weekend.

Karibu-Killifair in collaboration with the Tanzanian Government through the Ministry of culture affairs and tourism also offered participants and local and international buyers familiarisation trips to key destinations in the country. The Karibu-Killifair takes place annually, and therefore for the 8th edition of KaribuKillifair 2024 will be held from June 7-9 again in Arusha at Magereza ground.

Frank Yustard Ngimbwa (KADINALI)

Name: Frank Yustard Ngimbwa (KADINALI)

Profession: Visual Artist

Born: 5 May

“...ar t is in my blood.”
50 Dar Life | JULY 2023

From tingatinga artists to more contemporary painters, sculptors, photographers and filmmakers, Tanzania is not lacking in artistic skill and variety. While some Tanzanian artists have managed to establish themselves, many more hustle on a daily basis to be recognized for their unique talent. Dar Life caught up with the newly emerging artist KADINALI, who shared with us a bit about his history, what inspires him, and how he envisions the future of art in Tanzania.

DL - What inspired you to start painting?

Kadinali: I love painting because art is in my blood.

DL - How long have you been an artist?

Kadinali: I have been an artist for more than ten years now.

DL - When did you start?

Kadinali: I started painting in 2000 at the Tanzania Russian Cultural Center, under teacher Ernest Mtaya in the Dar Art Youth Group.

DL - What is a highlight of your artistic career?

Kadinali: Definitely participating in in “Fashion Design” in 2000.

Dar Life | JULY 2023 51

DL - What is your genre of painting and what mediums do you like to use? What technique do you use?

Kadinali: I use style wash, oil and sketches. I paint abstract and realistic paintings.

DL - Tell us about your first exhibition?

Kadinali: It was at the Embassy of Finland.

DL - Where do you do your work?

Kadinali: I work from my home.

DL - Do you work from life, or from photographs or from imagination?

Kadinali: I work from my memories. And I try to recapture a moment, a feeling that I felt then. With my latest work where I have combined photography I obviously used photographs and painting to create the final image.

DL - Where do you feel art is going?

Kadinali: In Tanzania art is going very slow. There

are many beautiful artworks, but the market is unfortunately small.

DL - What is the role of the artist in society?

Kadinali: I think my work is there to show and highlight the ordinary and to make the ordinary special by presenting it in a new perspective in a way. It’s about appreciating the simple things in life.

DL - Do you prefer a perfect smooth technique or a more energetic expressive technique and why?

Kadinali: I like energetic techniques, as using them encourages me to work hard so that when someone looks at my painting, they realize how much goes into painting. I want them to see that it is not easy to be a painter.

DL - What do you think makes your work standout?

Kadinali: I paint with confidence.

INTERNATIONAL FRENCH SCHOOL FUNDRAISING FASHION SHOW

The glitz, the glam and the kids

Proud parents cheered in the audience, the kids put on a superheroes themed show of solidarity in a fashion show geared to help raise funds for disadvantaged and orphaned kids in Tanzania at French International School.

The school believes that fashion helps reduce and fight against inequalities, increases love, helps us feel good about ourselves and empowers others. Fashion is a culture for the French people all over the world, it is our way of expressing our feelings and supporting others in difficult times in life. We strive to improve the environment of poor families, especially orphans, so that they can succeed in the future

62 Dar Life | JULY 2023

French International School organised its second annual fashion show event with the goal to support orphans living in Kagera region, Bukoba Municipal. This year’s event went with the theme ‘Superpowers’ and was organised in collaboration with the NGO Partage Tanzania, whose proceeds are channeled to caring for children’s education and wellbeing.

Fashion show to raise funds for the education of African children is not only a charity event, but also a holiday for children and parents.

In an effort to help the nongovernmental organization Partage Tanzania, a fundraiser was held on June 3, 2023 on the French school campus of the Arthur Rambo School in Dar es Salaam, where funds were raised through auctions of various prizes from sponsors throughout the evening. The fundraising was organized by several sponsors, such as AG energies, Xpress rent a

The event is here to stay and will continue to run every year because it is part of the school’s efforts to give back to the society. This is to bring back the positive vibes to our society; everyone has the right to be happy and it is the responsibility of each one of us to contribute as much as we can to achieve that.

car, hotel Emerald, each of which prepared a surprise for the guests for the ticket draw.

The show included fashion shows from designers such as Nsimbi Trends, Asili by Naliak, Diana Magesa, Blackcherry, Millianna, Noortribe, Primus perfect wear, Bilanfacon and Shahbaaz Sayed.

All proceeds from the show will go to the NGO PARTAGE Tanzania,

which cares about the education of African children.

The children’s musical numbers were amazing accompanied by singer Fadhile. The Fashion Show also carried the message that there is no place for bullying children and that any child can become a superhero, followed by very well thought out collection designs from designers that reflect the motto that every child can become a superhero.

It was quite a refreshing turn of events and being able to enjoy one of lifestyle’s core components, fashion. Watching these little ones confidently and fiercely take to the stage was a good reminder that kids can pretty much accomplish anything they put their minds to and why not accord every one of them this opportunity, even the disadvantaged ones?
