Over the last century, Dar es Salaam has transformed from a sleepy Zaramo fishing village into a thriving metropolis of over four million people (and growing). Straddling some of the most important sea routes in the world, it is East Africa’s second-busiest port and Tanzania’s commercial hub. The city is a melting pot of cultural influences, Arab, Indian, German and British

influences can be found in the city’s architecture. Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus and Christians coexist peacefully, with the wail of the azan blending with the sound of church bells in the mornings. Down at Kariakoo, Chinese electronics jostle with chickens in the market, cheerful Tingatinga paintings are stacked next to folded piles of khangas and kitenges, traditional medicines sit alongside neat pyramids of fruit

For the business traveler, there are a number of hotels boasting world-class conference facilities. There’s a mind boggling range of restaurants offering Thai, Indian, Italian,

Tanzania’s best and most inventive musicians are showcased in May at the B-Connected Festival in Mnazi Mmoja Grounds. For film lovers, November sees Dar host the annual Euro African Film Festival. THINGS TO DO IN

DAR ES SALAAM

A lifetime sustainable travel experience

Dar Es Salaam is Tanzania’s largest and most influential city. Yet Mount Kilimanjaro, the northern circuit of African wildlife and the island of Zanzibar are the reasons why many tourists that visit Tanzania miss the largest city altogether. With 4.6 million inhabitants, Dar Es Salaam is a vibrant East African city that includes lots of excitement and plenty of character. Culture, beaches, shopping and food Dar Es Salaam has a little slice of adventure for you to enjoy. However, whatever you end up doing, you can’t miss out on these 25 local attractions that will surely make your time in Dar es Salaam truly memorable.

BONGOYO ISLAND

One of the most entertaining things to do in Dar Es Salaam is swim in the beautiful warm tropical Indian Ocean. Bongoyo Island is a small island off the coast of Dar that makes a fantastic day trip of lazing on the beach, snorkeling and dining on fresh fried fish and chips Since becoming a marine reserve a few years ago, fees have severely increased, but it’s still worth it. Get to the island by taking a boat from The Slipway shopping center. 40 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

TINGATINGA ART CENTER

Tanzanians have long been famous around Africa for their artwork. The modern movement of Tingatinga painting is one favorite style of Tanzanian art. An artistic movement that began with Edward Said Tingatinga, the style is characterized by extremely bright oil colors and cartoon imaginative figures. The Tingatinga center is a rainbow of color and artistic inspiration. You can browse around and buy anything you see!

COCO BEACH ON THE WEEKENDS

Coco Beach, also known as Oyster Bay, is a stretch of beach located on the Msasani Peninsula of Dar Es Salaam. If you are looking for fun things to do in Dar Es Salaam, head over to Coco Beach on the weekend when it’s packed full of local Tanzanians. There are plenty of street food snacks and sometimes live music. The open area is also a place where frequent concerts and parties take place – check the city events guide. Swimming is not really recommended at Coco Beach, though some choose to wade in the water.

JANGWANI AND MBUDYA ISLAND

North of Dar Es Salaam there are a few lovely beaches and islands to enjoy as well. From White Sands hotel in Jangwani, you can take a boat to Mbudya Island, a great place to unwind and eat freshly caught Indian Ocean seafood.

ASKARI MONUMENT

One of the most well-known historical statues of significance in Dar Es Salaam is Askari Monument. Depicting a soldier with his bayonet pointing to the harbor, the monument is a reminder of the soldiers that fought as the Carrier Corps in World War I. The cast bronze Askari Monument is supposedly located in the precise center of Dar.

TANZANIAN BEVERAGES

Everywhere you travel you’ll encounter a new and unique set of local beverages. When you are in Tanzania you may want to sample the selection of locally brewed beer, have a few cups of Dar street coffee and especially guzzle a pungent Stoney Tangawizi.

NATIONAL MUSEUM

If you want to learn more about the history and culture of Tanzania or see some of the fossils that have been uncovered in the country, you’ll be interested in visiting the National Museum.

TEMPLE ROAD

If you are walking around downtown Dar Es Salaam, take a stroll down Temple Road where you will find a selection of religious temples. You can visit a few of the temples and have a look around.

ZANZIBARI MIX

There is one dish in Dar Es Salaam that is rare, but is a gem of an example of an expertly prepared dish that sums up the realm of cultures and traditions of the city: Zanzibari Mix. The makeshift Mama Mumtaz restaurant is not easy to find -in fact, you will probably have to walk to Kariakoo market and ask someone to direct you to it.

TANZANIAN STREET FOOD

Whether it’s roasted maize or mama cooked Tanzanian chapatis also try Mishkaki which is the Tanzanian version of meat on a stick – street style shish kebabs!

INDIAN FOOD

With a sizable population of Indians, there’s a decent selection of delicious Indian food available in Dar Es Salaam. central Dar Es Salaam, is one of the best areas of town to locate good Indian food. APRIL 2020 Dar Life I 41

KARIAKOO MARKET

One of the busiest and most thrilling markets in Dar Es Salaam is the local Kariakoo market. This is the place to go if you are hunting for the best bargains in town or wish to see the authentic side of local style Tanzanian shopping. Make sure you haggle to get the best deals.

KANGA SHOPPING – UHURU ST.

A popular thing to buy in Dar Es Salaam are the colorful pieces of wrap around cloth known as kangas. These brightly dyed rectangles of fabric are available in infinite colors, with infinite patterns and often include a message written in Kiswahili. Head over to Uhuru Street in downtown Dar Es Salaam for a huge distribution selection of kangas.

AZANIA LUTHERAN CHURCH

Originally built by German missionaries in Tanzania, the Azania Lutheran Church is an iconic structure located at Dar Es Salaam’s harbor front. From the cathedral you’ll have easy access to other tourist attractions around town.

NYAMA CHOMA

Nyama Choma (roasted meat – often goat) is wildly popular – and incredibly delicious. Go to a local restaurant, order your choice of meat and wait for it to slowly roast. In Tanzania, nyama choma is served with a few chillies and sometimes a tomato and red onion garnish. Many Tanzanians choose to wash down their nyama choma with a few beers. 42 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

SOUTH COAST BEACHES

Seclusion, peace and quietness is how I would describe the South Coast Beaches of Dar Es Salaam. There are a number of hotels that you can visit, or you can rent your own personal banda that covers the hut for the day. The lanky palm trees rustling in the breeze and the rhythmic wash of waves makes spending a day on the South Coast Beaches one of the most relaxing things to do in Dar Es salaam. One of the best things to do on the South Coast is to go horse riding on one of the best beaches you will ever encounter. The Dar Es Salaam Horse Club is located nearby to the world famous Ras Kutani Resort. Get there by personal vehicle or by local dala dala minivan. You’ll need to cross to the Kigamboni side of Dar Es Salaam by taking the ferry across the port.

SWAHILI DELICACIES

In the evenings, Ali Kuku, Mamboz, Ten To Ten and Natasha are famous for its barbeque chicken and chips, located in the city centre. Other places to try matoke (green banana) are Chef’s Pride (Chagga Street in city centre) or Zahir Restaurants ( Mosque St in city centre).

PUGU HILLS NATURE RESERVE

Pugu Hills is a designated nature reserve located around 25 kilometers from the center of Dar Es Salaam. Along with an opportunity to hike the trails, you can also choose to bird watch or visit the cave which is famous for its colony of bats. You can either get to Pugu Hills on your own or take a day tour.

MWENGE CARVERS’ VILLAGE

Located on the outskirts of town, Mwenge Carvers’ Village is a great attraction in Dar Es Salaam if you are in the market for Tanzanian souvenirs. Though there is a lot of the samesame type of things, if you take the time to browse around you’ll come away with some unique and quality Tanzanian handicrafts.

NIGHT LIFE

Dar Es salaam has a lot to offer when it comes to entertainment and relaxation especially at night. Here is a collection of top venues to kick start your experience in this amazing city! Akira is one the favourite rooftop bars in Dar es Salaam. With a chilled-out vibe and great music, it offers 360-degree sea views. Dar Live has a Zanzibari feel to it, being on the beach, and is open and very casual. The bar is on the beach, nestled among Dhow furniture in a most rustic fashion, open throughout the week. The George and Dragon has a very strong expat following with various activities every night to keep anyone entertained. Trinity is another place with a true Tanzanian feel with live bands and good vibe, located near Oyster Bay. Every Saturday and Sunday get entertained at Mediterraneo with a live band, beach party and bikini party. There are more than five casinos in Dar Es Salaam such as, Sea Cliff Casino, Princess Casino, New Africa in the city where you can have fun, gambling experience and be entertained. Latest on the block and with the best views of Dar by night is High Spirit Bar, Lounge & Nightclub located on the roof top of IT Plaza, Ohio Street and Havoc Nightspot is the freshest addition to Dar’s nightclub scene with spectacular views of the ocean and Dar’s skyline and offering a wide range of drinks and cocktails, dance the night away to the rhythm and eclectic beats by our DJs and special performers. THE SLIPWAY

The Slipway is Dar Es Salaam’s premier shopping and leisure centre. Here, you can shop, drink, dine or watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean. Parents can set their children loose in our waterfront playground, and travelers can relax in our lovely hotel rooms.

BAGAMOYO TOWN

Bagamoyo town located north of Dar Es Salaam, is an ancient East African trade port. The town has been influenced by Arabs and Indians to create a uniquely Swahili culture. On a day trip to Bagamoyo, you can visit ancient ruins, old churches and mosques and tour one of Tanzania’s only colleges of arts known as Chuo Cha Sanaa. If you don’t have your own transportation, you can get to Bagamoyo by local bus or by taking a day tour. 44 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

DAR ES SALAAM FISH MARKET

One of the favorite things to do in Dar Es Salaam is wake up early in the morning and wander around the Dar Fish Market. People gather from around the city to purchase the fresh catch of the day. Arrive at around 6:300 am to catch the most energized fish auction taking place.

FISHING

Latham Island (Fungu Kisimkasi) is a small, uninhabited oceanic island. The island and its associated reefs stick out the Indian Ocean in the middle of nowhere, an insignificant pinhead in the Indian Ocean. This structure promotes currents, and provides haven for baitfish and their predators and is thus a great big game fishing destination. The Island lies 45 nautical miles East of Dar es Salaam so may be fished on a day trip or more advisably on an overnighter, during which the adventurous angler can try for the mighty Broadbill Swordfish. There are several charter operators out of Dar, and they generally fish at Latham itself or for shorter and cheaper outings, work the Zanzibar Channel. Both fisheries can provide exciting sport - offering chances at Black and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellowfin and Dogtooth Tuna, King Mackerel, Dorado, Giant Trevally, bottom fish such as grouper and Red Snapper, and many more. It is an angler’s paradise. If you have a day off in the dark and love to hear a big reel scream, don’t hesitate to take off into the blue water, it’s right at your feet.

VILLAGE MUSEUM

The Village Museum offers a chance to observe a number of typical style Tanzanian traditional huts and learn more about the tribes of the country. Dance and drum performances are held in the evenings on weekends.

VOLUNTEER AND DO IT OFTEN 3 Career Boosting Reasons or Why You Should Volunteer

Y

ou put a lot into your job hunt. You tweak your resume, polish your LinkedIn profile, research companies, and brush up on your interview skills as needed. But, what if I told you that you’re missing something big? Something that 76% of career advisers say will make you way more likely to actually land the job. WELL, YOU’RE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT THIS MAGICAL SECRET FOR SUCCESS IS, AREN’T YOU? ONE WORD: VOLUNTEERING. Here are three reasons to why you should start volunteering today, to boost your career chances: It Looks Good On Your Resume Let’s start with the most obvious one first. If there’s one point that you can’t refute, it’s that volunteer work looks great on your resume. After all, when’s the last time you heard someone complain about a person being too helpful and community-minded? Probably never. I’m sure that the skills 46 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

listed on your resume are nothing short of impressive. But, when you’re willing to use those competencies to help with a deserving cause — even when there’s really nothing in it for you? That makes you look not only qualified, but conscientious. It Presents An Opportunity To Meet New People No, networking doesn’t just need to be done on LinkedIn or at a formal networking event. And, it definitely doesn’t need to be forced, uncomfortable, and filled with awkward pauses. So, this is where volunteering comes in. It’s an easy and completely natural way to meet some new connections in your area. Generally, volunteer opportunities have a pretty friendly, low-pressure environment. This means that you can have genuine, engaging conversations with people who share your interests — without that awkward air of expectations. Chances are, you’ll make more meaningful connections doing this than you ever have around the appetizer table at a networking event.

It Helps You Determine Your Career Goals Donating your time to volunteer is also a great way to gather information and find out a little bit more about what exactly you’re looking for in regards to your career. Perhaps you’ve always worked for a large company and are curious about what life is like with a smaller nonprofit. Or, maybe you’re itching to find out a little bit more about what it’s like to work in a startup environment. Beyond company size, volunteering is also an effective way to discover other important tidbits about how you function. Do you like working independently, or as part of a team? Do you enjoy getting your hands dirty, or do you prefer to do the coordination and administrative tasks? Does working with a certain type of organization make you feel especially inspired and fulfilled? Volunteering presents a non-threatening opportunity for you to figure all of that stuff out. And, that information is undoubtedly valuable when determining your next career move.

Why being generous is critical to your business success By Suhaib Mohammed

OFTEN, ENTREPRENEURS ARE OBSESSED WITH ACCUMULATING MATERIAL THINGS -- MORE TRAFFIC, MORE CUSTOMERS, MORE MONEY.

T

he most vocal and fiercest critics of capitalism, Karl Marx, shouldn’t be blamed. He was right when he called our obsessiveness for wealth and profit as “primitive accumulation.” Worse, our obsessiveness over wealth and profit is a never-ending game. Here are three reasons why being generous is critical to your business success. Let’s get right to it. Generosity Begets Contentment Looking at it on the surface, the act of giving doesn’t make much sense. But when you critically dissect it from the inside, you’ll find out that being generous is not only about losing a sheer of your products. It’s not about being favorable to some folks and doing a disservice to your venture either. It’s quite the opposite. If you give your physical product or a share of your profits to someone, you’re actually doing a personal good to both yourself and your beneficiary. The More You Give, The More You Get When you offer a freemium service to your potential premium subscriber, charge $0.00 for your dropshipping business, or

48 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

give out your 300-page e-book for free to your new blog subscriber, you’re not losing a sale. You’re building a strong relationship with your prospective customer. You’re building a solid connection with your audience. The connection will help your buyer to not only get to know you better, but admire you and trust you. Whatever you sell, whatever you stand for, if you want to stand out and reap more rewards, you have to give more. Giving Doesn’t Just Build Your Business. It Changes Your World When you give out something for free, you’re not only opening the gates of the word-of-mouth advertisement for your startup. In reality, you’re inspiring your audience. You’re building your community. You’re changing your world for the better. Give out some funds or books to a person or your local community. The items you give out will do much more than put a smile in the person’s face. It will directly contribute to improving their life. Sure, that will motivate them to give as well -- when they get their business ideas off the ground -- and the engine of giving back continues to recycle.

Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo Focus on: Zanzibar Art

...I always say ‘’Effort cannot change an Act of God ‘’

Name: Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo Profession: Visual Artist Born: 1986

Born and raised in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo. Popularly known as Kola, has drawn his path into fame with not more than his secondary school art class lessons. A principal theme in Y-Kola’s work is the nature of time. He is also concerned about his cultural heritage as a Zanzabari, and the confluences between religious and cultural thought. He has also become a regular feature at the East African Art Biennale exhibitions, and numerous exhibitions in Zanzibar. He generally operates at a studio at Park Hyatt Zanzibar which he employs as a platform introduce his art to the rest of the world. Kola was the Nafasi Artist in resident for Oct 2019.

56 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

From Tingatinga artists to more contemporary painters, sculptors, photographers and filmmakers, Tanzania is not lacking in artistic skill and variety. While some Tanzanian artists have managed to establish themselves, many more hustle on a daily basis to be recognized for their unique talent. Dar Life caught up with the newly emerging artist of the month; Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo who shared with us a bit about his history, what inspires him, and the role of art in society." DL - What inspired you to start painting? Y. Kola: The only thing that inspired me to start painting is love and imagination. DL - How long have you been an artist? Y. Kola: For about 17 years. DL - When did you start? Y. Kola: 2004, at the House of Art in Zanzibar (Nyumba ya Sanaa) DL - Wow, seems your work has been extensive. Have you done anything that sticks out? I have done different projects to help the community as a volunteer. DL - Tell us about your first exhibition? When was it? Y. Kola: My first exhibition was in 2011, at the Malim Suraka Charity exhibition, in Emerson Spice hotel Zanzibar. DL - Where do you do your work? Y. Kola: Usually in the Old Fort gallery, but sometimes at home. DL - Do you work from life, or from photographs or from imagination? Y. Kola: I work in all three categories. The most important thing is to bring the reality of your feelings to those who love your artwork or style. DL - Where do you feel art is going? Y. Kola: Art in Tanzania can only go up. The network of artists is growing, and more shared spaces and opportunities are becoming available for art, including Nafasi Art Space and Vipaji Foundation. APRIL 2020 Dar Life I 57

DL - What is the place of your work in society? Y. Kola: If I can inspire even one individual to be a better person, I will consider myself successful.

Picture Courtesy of Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo

DL - What technique do you use? Which is more important to you, the subject of your painting, or the way it is executed? Y. Kola: I use oil painting and textured brush strokes. I feel that both the subject and the execution are equally important. You may have a very important subject, but if the execution is done poorly, or inappropriately, then the message may not reach the target.

58 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

DL - Why is your work so pretty! What do you think makes it stand out? Y. Kola: My work is so pretty because when I prepare paintings, my mind goes very deep, I take ideas from others before preparing so that I can do something that others say ‘’ no, he couldn’t have drawn it ‘’ or “he can’t do it.” To purchase any of MY. Q: What is coronavirus? A: Coronavirus is a flu-virus that is currently responsible for the epidemic in China. Q: How does it spread? A: Coronavirus spreads through respiratory droplets, for example sneezing and coughing as well as touching your eyes, nose and mouth after coming into contact with the virus

person, or if you have returned from an affected country in the last 14 days. Q: How can I protect myself and my family? A: It is important to ensure that you practice good respiratory hygiene. That is, cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing, clean your hands as often as you can, self-isolate if you feel you may have been exposed to the virus. ORAL HEALTH DURING PREGNANCY Intelligence & Care by Tasakhtaa Global Hospital Dr Mohamed Shahari Mkawa, (Dds)

Is oral assessment important during pregnancy? It is recommended that oral and dental assessment be done during pregnancy. Poor oral health has a direct negative effect in pregnancy both to the mother and the fetus health. The mass has little concern that poor oral health during pregnancy can lead to complications like low birth weight, premature rupture of membrane and preterm delivery. There are certain myths like “you can’t have your tooth extracted until you give birth” which hinders most pregnant women to seek for dental consultation even during their emergency dental incidences not knowing the risk of dental and oral diseases in the future of their pregnancy. Others even went on neglecting basic oral health care like teeth brushing with fluoride toothpaste and mouth washing as a result ending having periodontal diseases which may lead to teeth mobility or even falling out, although some blames it not to themselves but to the pregnancy itself saying “You have to remove at least one tooth in every pregnancy” which is in true sense not necessarily once you

64 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

take care of your oral and dental health as it is recommended. What brings dental diseases in pregnant women? Among the group of people who are at high risk of having dental and oral diseases are pregnant women. Vomiting during pregnancy can lead to erosion of teeth due to some acid coming out during vomiting nevertheless if it occurs frequently, pregnancy itself can worsen the present gingival disease due to reduced immunity and increased blood flow to the gums. What is the best time for treatment? Whether the disease has developed during the pregnancy or it was there before the pregnancy it is highly recommended that all dental and oral problems be managed as soon as they are diagnosed so as to reduce the risks of interfering with the general health of both the mother and the child. The oral health management guidelines explain that if the dental management requires administering some medications or chemicals to the

mother during the procedure is its better be avoided in the first 3 months so as to reduce the teratogenic effects of drugs to the fetus because this is the time of fetal development, also during the last trimester it is better to avoid elective dental treatment because the mother’s condition at that time may interfere with positioning during the treatment and might compromise her airway or blood circulation. The second trimester is considered to be the best time for dental management although as stated earlier emergency intervention should not wait for any trimester to come but it should be taken care accordingly. What should be done? It is the responsibility from doctors, nurses and the general public to encourage oral health assessment during pregnancy nevertheless including it in routine maternity visits so as to reduce the risks which might rise secondarily to negligence. For more information on oral health during pregnancy, please visit Tasakhtaa Global Hospital or call us at: +255 242 232341.

“Oral and dental health problems are of special importance in pregnant women. Hormonal changes in pregnancy, particularly estrogen changes and reduced immunity, can cause inflammation, bleeding, increased sensitivity to gingiva and increased risk of bacterial infection as a result, resulting in increased gum disease. However, it’s of no doubt only a small number of pregnant women consider oral health in their routine maternity visits, factors being low economy, lack of knowledge about its importance in pregnancy, not having dental problems which necessitates emergency dental intervention and never the least not giving importance.”

The Wild Beaut Paradise for Nature Lovers By Sara Maro

“If you have chosen the southern circuit for your adventure safari, then a visit to Tanzania’s fourth largest national park, Mikumi, is likely to be on your program. Four to five hours drive on comfortable roads will take you to this park which is known for hosting a wealth of Tanzania’s national animal, the giraffe.”

I

f you want to spend your holiday in a majestic natural area, the grand Mikumi National Park is the place to be. Established in 1964, Mikumi is the fourth largest national park in the world, enclosing an area of about 3230 square kilometers. Located south of Dar es Salaam right on the main Morogoro Iringa Highway, it is the first national park stop on the Tanzania southern circuit safari. The word Mikumi comes from a local word for Borassus 72 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

palm trees referred to as Mikuky. Mikumi was the name given to the villages created by a tribal chief of Wavindunda community with the name of Mtwahela Kikuwi (pronounced mm-twa-hhe-laa Kee-kuu-wee). Mikumi National Park has two main sections divided by the main road. The northwest section is where most guests undertake their wildlife and birdlife viewing expeditions made possible by

existing safari tracks. The Mkata flood plains aid the ecosystem by creating pools of water and therefore creating a sustainable environment for the plants and wildlife. The vegetations predominantly found are mixed grassland with acacia, baobab, sausage, tamarind and few small palms trees. Game driving further into the park or staying at the Foxes Tented Camp, itself lying on a hill, the majestic view of the Rubeho and Uluguru mountains can be seen, which

are part of the pre-Cambrian rocks formed over 600 million years ago. The southeast of Mikumi National Park is not conducive to the safari experience because of its underdeveloped infrastructure. Guests staying at the Vuma Hills Tented Camp can experience the rugged and wilderness experience from a geological and Vegetation perspective.

Visiting Mikumi National Park during the dry season can aid a safari experience by the fact that the dried up vegetation and the brown soil creates a superb hue during sunrises and sunsets. Why Visit Mikumi National Park during a Tanzania Safari? • First Park on the Southern Safari Circuit: Mikumi National Park is the first stop on the southern safari circuit, allowing guests an

enjoyable break with a wildlife viewing experience on route to Ruaha National Park. • Excellent Biodiversity: Mikumi offers the opportunity to view a diverse number of animals and birds in a short period of time without too much driving around. • Personalized Wildlife Watching: With relatively few numbers of people undertaking the southern APRIL 2020 Dar Life I 73

What to do Game drives and guided walks are great options. Manu guests enjoy visiting the snake park in Mikumi village. Guests can also visit the nearby Udzungwa Mountains, or travel on for more wildlife safari in Selous or Ruaha. 74 I Dar Life I APRIL 2020

Best Time to Visit Mikumi National Park’s dry season starts around mid-May lasting to mid-November, with patches of transition time between January and February when rains switch from the short to the long rains. Long rains start from around the middle of February tapering off by the middle of May. Getting there A good surfaced road connects Mikumi to Dar es Salaam via Morogoro, roughly a 4 hour drive. There are also road connections to Udzungwa, Ruaha and (dry season only) Selous. Charter flights are available from Dar es Salaam, Arusha or Selous and local buses run from Dar to park HQ where Tanzania Safari game drives can be arranged.

Mikumi Lodges & Camps • Foxes Safari Camp - Foxes Safari Camp is a small and personalized camp in Mikumi. It is set up on a rocky kopje on the Mkata flood plain, which presides over the best game viewing area of the park, the Mwanamboga Waterhole. • Vuma Hills Tented Camp - Vuma Hills Tented Camp is perched above the trees stretching over the seemingly endless wilderness southwest of Mikumi National Park. Mikumi National Park’s wonderful wildlife experience, along with its perfect location on route to Ruaha National Park, makes it a must-visit during a Tanzania safari.

safari circuit by road, Mikumi is one of the most undervisited parks in Tanzania. • Accommodation Fairly Priced: Accommodations in Mikumi National Park cater to all personalities and budgets, making it a mustvisit park for any person visiting Tanzania. • Unique Wildlife Experience: Safari guides often state that it is easier to spot a tree-climbing lion in Mikumi National Park than to spot one in Lake Manyara National Park.
