End Corporate Rule - Defeat the TPP! February 4 is the date set for President Obama to sign the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership "free trade" deal). Then it will go to Congress, which has a maximum of 90 days to vote on it. Some free trade bills have been pushed through on Fast Track in 7 days. After February 4, we are in the high danger zone.

If we defeat the TPP, we can defeat the TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and TiSA (Trade in Services Agreement). These are the trifecta of secretly negotiated free trade agreements being used to advance GLOBAL CORPORATE RULE that favors profits over the common good.

Actions to take NOW: Call your Reps to oppose the TPP. Farr, Eshoo & Thompson (Napa) are key.  Write letters to editors. (see Citizen.org/trade or Flush theTPP.org for info.) February 4: Join the Nationwide Mobilization to STOP the TPP. Plan a "TPP is Betrayal" action for February 4 (see FlushtheTPP.org for info) and put your city on the map with location, time, and contact person. Pass a “NO TPP Resolution in your city or county councils. We are working on this in Santa Cruz, CA. When a City or County Council passes a “NO TPP Resolution, it can influence the vote of the local Congress member. Join the Buycott for Trade Justice. (see FlushtheTPP.org/buycott for info.)

ALERT!!!!! Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is Ramping Up Wireless Tech in A Massive Way! Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is ramping up wireless tech in a massive way! They want to become part of the New Tech School franchise that started in Napa, California (www.knowledgeworks.org/impacting-schoolscommunities/new-tech-network) They’re working now to get community approval of the idea. What’s even worse is that they’re exploring building their own private cellular network – cell towers targeting the low-income kids in the three cities in the district—Monterey, Seaside and Marina. The towers will

be on schools and in the cities. This is massive. The research and actions by other governments doesn’t matter to them. No one from the district attended the $12. Mountain View Symposium, entitled “Wireless Technology and Public Health”. But, they budget thousands to attend tech workshops. One board member—an engineer—thinks that Wi-Fi radiation is different than cellphone radiation, and that Wi-Fi is perfectly fine (which is not true!). These children are going to be destroyed by them—their willful

ignorance and smugness is absolutely shocking. They rubber stamp everything presented to them without question. I learned tonight that the e-rate system to fund telecom and tech in schools, libraries, etc. is now pretty exclusively for wireless. It will not fund voice over landline! A word to the wise: pay attention to your local school district. Cell towers on school property don’t need city approval. They can do what they want!! Wireless Radiation Alert Network (WRAN)

THE DAY YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THE WORLD!!! FEBRUARY 22, 2016

The Fukushima radioactive waste continues to accumulate on the west coast and all over the world! So far, three pilot studies have shown over a 10% decrease in radiation when people mentally focused on reducing it. This indicates that the idea in physics of a fixed decay rate for radioactivity is incorrect. This may be a way to reduce the ever-accumulating radioactive Fukushima waste to a safer level by simply using the power of our

thoughts! Please join us, and 1000’s more, on 2/22/16 as we take 15 minutes to pray/meditate/focus our thoughts on lowering the background radiation levels on Earth. Any time of day will do!! http://FukushimaUpdate.com Thank you to Buryl Payne for bringing this to our attention; to Theodora Kerry for summarizing it for the magazine!

UPDATE: Indiana Baby Dies In His Sleep Days After Receiving 6 Vaccine Doses

A

by Augustina Ursino t the age of one, on October 19, 2015, Michael Whitesell was injected with the MMR, varicella, hepatitis A, and flu shot vaccines. This is six vaccine doses given to him, in four injections. He let out a scream never heard before. Three days later, he had a fever and was given Tylenol. He went to bed that night and died in his sleep sometime the following morning. After he was found, his Uncle Thomas Whitesell performed CPR on him, until EMS showed up and took over. Investigators left baby Michael on the floor, on his back, with his little arms out to his side, turning more blue and darker by the minute, while waiting more than 2 hours for the coroner to show up. Investigators didn’t even cover baby Michael up with a sheet. People on the scene, including Michael’s three year old brother Keegan, were walking over Michael’s uncovered deceased body. The doorway where Michael lay connected the children’s bedroom to the living room. Three year old Keegan didn’t know what was going on; he offered his brother some goldfish crackers in his mouth, because he thought he was hungry. He knew something wasn’t

done on them, they even drug tested them on the spot and they came back clean. There was no evidence Michael was hurt by them and yet Keegan was taken by DCF. Both Michael and Keegan were being raised by their Aunt Brittney and Uncle Thomas Whitesell since birth. Their biological mother, Thomas’s sister, lives with some medical issues associated with epilepsy and the children’s biological fathers haven’t really been around to take on the parenting role, so the boy’s mother entrusted her brother Thomas and his wife to raise these children. Everyone was loved and happy and the chil-dren’s birth mother has always been in their life. The autopsy results came in revealing Michael was not abused at all and Thomas and Brittney had Keegan returned to them, but they must file for guardianship, which they have since done. The autopsy report showed Michael Whitesell’s liver and vascular system was congested. The coroner ruled one year old Michael’s cause of death as Sudden Unexplained Infant Death, due to natural causes and the specific vaccines were not listed on the autopsy report.

right but didn’t understand what happened. While this was happening, the Indiana State Department of Families and Children (DCF) were notified and Michael’s three year old brother Keegan was then removed from the home and placed with Brittney’s grandmother, who lived about 25 miles away. Thomas and his wife Brittney Whitesell were told Keegan would be returned, once the autopsy results came back, to prove they didn’t hurt Michael. They were treated like criminals and the vaccines were never looked at. Thomas and Brittney were fingerprinted, had background checks

The medical examiner confirmed Michael had vascular congestion in his Brain, Thymus, Heart, Lungs, Liver, Spleen, Kidneys, Adrenals, Urinary Bladder, Gastrointestinal Tract, Pancreas and Thyroid. Petechiae of the thymus and lungs were noted, along with pulmonary and visceral congestion. The toxicology report came back negative and mentioned his urine was positive for glucose. There was no mention on Michael’s autopsy report of the specific MMR, varicella and Hep A vaccines Michael received just before he died. On the entire autopsy report and pathology report, the only mention of

the vaccines Michael received shortly before was in this sentence the coroner wrote, “Brittney also told me that Michael had received his 12 month

while trying to detox his body from what was injected into him. He was healthy and fine before those vaccines. His family knows the vaccines took his life and they will fight for justice until

Michael and Keegan Whitesell vaccinations and flu shot on October 19th at the office of Doctor ----------.” As mentioned in Michael’s original story, it is unacceptable that a medical examiner doesn’t have to list recent vaccines on the autopsy report, or the child’s recent hospital or emergency room visits associated with a vaccine reaction occurring just before the child died. If Michael’s grandmother Tina did not put pressure on the coroner numerous times each week, he most likely would not have even mentioned the vaccines at all. The immune response brought on from the vaccines was too great for Michael’s developing body to handle and it appears very clear, based on these autopsy findings that Michael suffered a cytokine storm, initiated from the vaccines he was given that caused his immature immune system to over compensate,

Michael’s death is acknowledged. It is rather concerning that all of the ingredients injected into baby Michael could be so positively ruled out. This makes no sense at all. Please take a look at the ingredients listed on the CDC’s website, showing what went through those needles and ask yourself how this could not kill a child, especially when the CDC and vaccine manufacturers admit life-threatening allergic reactions and death can be the outcome of receiving any vaccine.

Leaving you with words from Michael’s grandmother, Tina Whitesell:

“We miss Michael so much and think about him every day. We have filed a claim with the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program because we want justice for Michael. I want people to know the truth! I knew

shortly after hearing about his death, it was them shots that ended his life. Healthy babies just don’t die in their sleep, period! I wonder everyday if this is the day he would have learned to walk. He was so close to walking. He was so happy, always smiling and hardly ever cried. So healthy too, he only went to the docs for his well checkups. Then we lost him. He will always be in our hearts and in our minds. I truly feel for other parents who lost their babies too. It hurts so much. Every 2 years I am going to find an age enhancement artist to keep his photo updated for us, so we will know, or kind of know, what he would have looked like. Keegan is only three years old and his life changed on October 23, 2015. He has a little police car that was used in Michael’s funeral, near his casket. He keeps that car put up and plays with it sometimes and he will tell you Michael gave this to me. Keegan still talks about Michael. He told me he wants the moon to come out so he could see Michael. He tells us that Michael is at the moon or in the stars and that we need to go get him and bring him in, so he doesn’t get cold. Michael and other babies no longer are here but getting the truth out in the open will help save others. My grandson had the right for a full, healthy life and did not deserve this. He deserved to live.” Augustina Ursino is an advocate for vaccine choice. Human and pet vaccine injuries are prevalent and often dismissed by mainstream medical establishments taught to protect the vaccine program. WHO ARE YOU & what did you come here to do? The International Institute of Hand Analysis Philosophy: To understand one’s life from a Life Purpose perspective: What have you come here to do in this lifetime? What must you learn from experience in order to be capable of it? Where are you now? What’s your next step? WHAT IS HAND ANALYSIS? Whereas palmistry is defined as foretelling the future from the lines of your palm, hand analysis seeks to increase self-understanding through an examination of the entirety of your hands. It reveals your soul psychology. As an IIHA certified hand analyst I examine the overall shape of your palm and fingers to determine basic temperament. The lines in your palm are examined to determine primary wiring, e.g., the type of emotional system you have, what kind of computer you possess. Your fingerprints hold the key to your soul psychology.

If you are ready to explore your life map, I invite you to call today for an appointment. 650-799-6950 Learn how you can host a group session and receive a free reading.

Our minds like to check out, and rest. Hypnotic trance is a natural and restful place to be. Or, remember the last time you recalled the joys and pleasures of your last vacation? You can easily imagine yourself there again; smelling the fragrances, tasting the food, feeling the air against your skin, remembering the conversations and views. Identify Your Self Defeating Beliefs by G. Katie Dashtban, Psy.D.

I

t is quite common for most of us to have a set of commonly held core beliefs about ourselves, about the future and about people in our lives. These core beliefs are often so deeply embedded in our core, to the point that we are not consciously aware of them. Below I have listed 7 common core beliefs. Wonder to yourself if Dr. Katie Dashtban you hold such core beliefs and if so, ask yourself “what is it worth to me to change that core belief?” 1) Achievement: Perfectionism. Believing that you must never fail or make a mistake. People will not or show vulnerability. Your worth as a human being is based on your achievements, income, looks, talent, or some other type of status. 2) Love: You believe that you must receive everyone’s approval in order to be worthwhile. You will not taste happiness unless you have someone in your life who romantically loves you. And, if you receive criticism or rejection it proves that there is something inherently wrong with you. 3) Submissiveness: You believe that you should do your best to please others and you are

Page 9

people who care for one another should never be at odds with one another and should certainly not have arguments. You believe all the problems in your relationships are somehow your fault. 4) Demandingness: When in You feel entitled that others should always treat you in the way you expect. And you believe you are right and everyone else is wrong. 5) Depression: You believe your problems could never be solved and that you will never feel truly you are basically worthless, defective or inferior compared to others. 6) Anxiety: You believe that you should always feel happy, dangerous and should be avoided at all cost, and that feeling intense emotions such as depression and jealousy should be avoided. You believe people are powerful, demanding and manipulative. You are under the spotlight; everyone is looking at how you carry yourself and is ready to criticize you. And lastly, you engage in magical thinking: “If I worry enough, everything will turn out okay.” The above commonly held self-defeating beliefs are strongly associated with most of human suffering. Learning to recognize them can be tremendously helpful. Dr. Dashtban is a licensed clinical psychologist with practices in Santa Cruz, Mt View and Fremont. Ignorance Kills - part II Continued from Page 10 head via primarily the health of our mouths‌and that health is entrusted to the dental profession. That is the world we live in‌ in my reality. And I cringe as I see the ubiquitous proliferation of medical facilities under construction. What to do? Spread the information. Expand the concept. from that place. This proprioceptive map is often acclimated to an imbalanced state. When we tell our bodies to relax, we simply resort to our old habits of postural imbalance believing that we are relaxed. I often see self-purported masters of various styles telling their students to relax, with little to no change

or progress being made. This goes on for many years, as the teacher sells their students new forms like a carrot on the end of a stick. This amounts to mere choreography, and the student learns little outside of a routine to show their friends. Rediscovering balance can be a fatiguing practice. It can often be accompanied by intense burning sensations in certain places within the body. This is contrary to most people’s conventional understanding of relaxing and can be off putting to new students, but the freedom and ease of movement, that comes with a daily Wujifa practice, is a byproduct of self discovery and is a microcosm of this strange experience we call life. Trevor Caruso is a Rolf Structural Integration Therapist and owner of Mirror Gate Integrative Therapy in Santa Cruz County. He’s studied internal martial arts and other healing and awareness practices since 1993. He currently teaches ongoing Wujifa classes in Santa Cruz. by Trevor Caruso Progress in Wujifa can sometimes be defined not by learning new forms, but by dissolving old patterns. Maladaptive habitual movement patterns are often learned through improper instruction or when we restrict our training to form practice. In the practice of Wujifa, and often in life in general, progress manifests as we notice connection. The aspiring practitioner, who is able to see the significance of noticing, is generally the one who makes the most progress. Every practitioner I have had the pleasure of training with, has reported that discovering this simple principle has changed their world; for better or for worse depending on their perspective. As we begin on our journey of discovery, we may notice that our intentions, such as the reason why we train, may conflict with other intentions we have. Practitioners may unravel a world of conflict only to discover a new world which can create shifts in other areas of their life. Subtle adjustments in one’s standing meditation practice, for example, can lead to the resolution of health problems which have plagued the body for years. Practitioners will often feel drastic health changes for the better and have more energy and freedom in movement. Practicing Wujifa daily can also create shifts in your somatic emotional responses. This is a by product of integration and contingent upon receiving correct adjustments, which is why it is important to find a competent instructor. If you are ready to take that step onto the path of discovery, I may point you first towards the door of relaxation. Relaxation is an intrinsic piece of whole body connection. Nearly all practitioners who seek out my classes are surprised to discover that they are not as relaxed as they imagined. The idea of relaxation can often be too abstract of a concept for people. We often have misconceptions of what it means to relax. Simply telling someone to relax is generally a futile attempt, which only reinforces their old habits. This is because as the body acclimates towards various holding patterns

Standing work stations are becoming more popular because alternating between sitting and standing helps, too. Many jobs involve lifting. When we carry weight in front of us, there is a lot of pressure exerted on the spine. Every one pound of weight equals fifteen pounds of pressure on the spine. A fifty pound weight equals 750 pounds of pressure. It’s best to keep the spine straight when lifting, and to use the large hip and thigh muscles to do the bending. Keep your loads as close to the body as possible. Be very careful when combining the motions of twisting, bending, and lifting. It puts the back in an extremely vulnerable position and should be avoided entirely. Square your body to the load whenever possible, and use the power of the lower body. You can twist, but not with a bend. With jobs that involve gripping and squeezing with tools, some adjustments can be made for comfort. TREŠ is a gentle, simple and profound technique that facilitates the lengthening and relaxation of the psoas muscle. This relaxation provides a very effective release of physical and emotional tension and stress. The psoas is a very thick, deep and stubborn muscle that acts as a guardian of our lower belly. In its role as protector of our organs, it contracts and tightens, becoming shorter, in response to life’s small and big traumatic experiences. A tight psoas can cause many problems including sciatica and lower back pain.

Elizabeth Martina Bishop Selected Poems 1987-2015 The most comprehensive overview of her metaphysically inspired work published to date

467 Pages $25.25 Available on Amazon.com

The poems in this collection represent a distillation of Bishop's works and showcase her sense of humor, as well as her whimsical approach to the art of writing poetry. While the parameters of her wide ranging poetic style are influenced by ‘sound poetry’ and her affection for performance art, she stands in favor of the idea that poetry may return us to a spiritual place that invokes a ravishing journey of inner awareness, peace, and soulful contemplation. The Ripple Effect of Change by Carmel K. Jud, Founder/E.D. of Rising International January is human trafficking awareness month. By dedicating the first Carmel Jud month of the year to opening our eyes to modern day slavery, the stage is set for opening our hearts. I can’t think of a better way to start the year! lavery has not ended. It’s estimated that modern or contemporary slavery is generating $35 billion annually for the criminals that prosper from it. Despite the fact that it’s illegal, slavery takes place in every region of the world, from Santa Cruz to Sudan. There are more slaves in the world today than at any time in our history; currently estimated at 30 million. Last year, I set out to learn more about slavery in the Santa Cruz area; my home town. As a founding member of the Coalition to End Human Trafficking in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, I had the honor of meeting Betty Ann Boeving, the founder of the Bay Area Coalition. Betty Ann attended one of our early coalition meetings to lend her advice and expertise to our development. It

curriculum teaches foster youth to identify and avoid child traffickers, in addition to providing the youth with the opportunity to earn an income as jewelry makers. The Safe and Sound flagship product is a trafficking awareness bracelet made of safety pins. Yep, safety pins. Creating jewelry from safety pins is relatively easy. You don’t need any prior jewelry making experience or fancy or expensive equipment. Much like the cancer awareness bracelets made popular by Livestrong Foundation, it’s our hope that the Safe and Sound bracelets will bring vital

about the plight of foster youth. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1 in 6 reported youth runaways in the U.S. are likely to be victims of sex trafficking, and 68% have been in foster care. When Betty Ann shared the current research on foster youth, she created a ripple effect of change starting in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. As part of this effect, the organization that I head up, Rising International, launched the Safe and Sound Program. Safe and Sound is a human

One of our local bracelet makers, Devin Gonzalez is a young mother who grew up in foster care. After parSafe and Sound workshop, she shared this story: “When I lived in a group home, there was a girl there. She was 16 and she was a prostitute. All the girls in the home knew she was a prostitute, and didn’t think so greatly about her. They treated her like she wasn’t even there. Looking back, I wish I could’ve been that person to reach out and help her, now that I know that . . . I can. If I ever see her again, I know what to do and say. I hope we’re able to cross paths again someday soon.” The goal of the Safe and Sound program is to continue Betty Ann’s ripple effect. For every Safe and Sound participant (like Devin), whom ers, our hope is that they will in turn educate at least three more, who will educate three more, and so on, and so on. Life constantly offers opportunities to awaken to one’s true identity as Soul, a unique and eternal spark of divine creativity. I recently had such an awakening. A mysterious pain began 20 weeks into my pregnancy. The episodes quickly escalated from irritating to agonizing and lasted up to 11 hours without reprieve. Doctors blamed a necrotic “good luck” and a prescription for pain meds. I endured months of incapacitating pain

approach that quantum mechanics only applies to the microworld and that classical physics is completely separate, ruling all else. Great article, I highly recommend checking it out! The 3rd dimension illusion-of-separation is fueled by the antiquated belief of quantum mechanics not applying to all matter, and it upholds the perception of duality/ separateness/isolation. As long as we communally embrace the belief that the 3rd dimension/physical world is not ultimately our collective creation, whether consciously or unconsciously, then the co-created reality we experience is victimization by the “external world”…the belief that “Someone” or “Something Out There” controls our life empty, and so on. Action Plan for the New Year by Dr. Mercola appy New Year! This year, what do you say we all skip the New Year’s resolution? About half of Americans make them, and most start out strong but come February or March, many have already thrown in the towel. Overall, it’s estimated that 92 percent of Americans fail to achieve the goals they commit to on New Year’s Day. And so, I’m proposing this instead: in place of a New Year’s resolution, make a commitment to simply live better this year. This is an ongoing process, a lifestyle change, not an impulsive resolution that you blurted out at midnight and have all but forgotten by morning. It’s also not something you can achieve overnight. Rather, this is a plan you can live by.

10 Steps to Changing Your Life for the Better in 2016

It’s the start of a new year—what better time to start fresh with some positive changes? The 10 that follow are the crème de la crème of lifestyle tricks you can use to live better and be happier—and, isn’t that really what virtually all of us are after? Below follows a brief introduction to the 10 points I suggest you commit to this year. In the coming months, stay tuned for an updated comprehensive nutrition plan, which is scheduled for release in 2016.

It will include these points in detail along with a plethora of additional recommendations, tips, and strategies to help you live the best life possible.

1. Give Up Soda

Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver damage, some of the health conditions linked to soda consumption. No wonder nearly two-thirds (63 percent) of Americans say they actively try to avoid soda in their diet. If you’re not yet among them, commit to swapping your soda for healthier beverages like water, sparkling water, and, occasionally, tea and/or organic black coffee. When you consume soda your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain— a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

and you’ll feel better for it.

2. Eat Two Meals a Day,

Within an 8-Hour Window

Your body probably only needs two meals a day, and eating this way allows you to restrict your eating to hours each day, while avoiding food for at least three hours before bedtime. As long as you restrict your

3. Get Eight Hours of Sleep Each Night I used to think I was immune to needing adequate sleep. I would night and thought I could function this way. But, I’ve since realized that most adults really need about eight hours of sleep every night. What makes sleep deprivation impact one aspect of your health; it impacts many. Sleep deprivation has the same effect on your immune system as physical stress or illness, which may help

Lack of sleep also decreases levels of your fat-regulating hormone leptin, while increasing the hunger hormone ghrelin. The resulting increase in hunger and appetite can easily lead to overeating and weight gain. Not to is actually the strongest predictor for pain in adults over 50. Small adjustments to your daily routine and sleeping area can go a long way to ensure uninterrupted, restful sleep and, thereby, better health. If you’re not sure how much track of the actual time you’re asleep (as opposed to the time spent in bed). If you need more sleep, I suggest you read through my full set of 33 healthy sleep guidelines (http:// tinyurl.com/297fsme) for details on proper sleep hygiene.

4. Eat More Healthy

Fats and Fiber

Public health guidelines condemn healthy fats from foods like butter and full-fat dairy, and recommend whole grains and cereals — the opposite of what most people need to stay healthy. The latest science suggests healthy fats (saturated and unsaturated fats from whole food, animal, and plant sources) should comprise anywhere from 50 to 85 percent of your overall energy intake. Healthy fat sources include coconut and coconut oil, avocados, butter, nuts, and animal fats. That’s right; butter need not be source of healthy saturated fats, especially when it’s raw, organic, and grass-fed. In addition to eating more healthy fats, most Americans need to can help reduce your risk of premature death from any cause, likely because it helps to reduce your risk of some of the most common chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The solution is simple—in addition to cutting back on sugar and antibiotics, consuming fermented foods will give your gut health a complete overhaul, helping to clear out pathogenic varieties and promoting the spread of healing, nourishing microorganisms instead. Just one-quarter to one-half cup of fermented vegetables, eaten with one to three meals per day, impact on your health. You can even start a new tradition by getting together with friends and family to make big batches of fermented vegetables together. (http://tinyurl. )

6.Sit Less and Walk More, Work on Your Flexibility On average, a U.S. adult spends nine to 10 hours each day sitting, which is so much inactivity that even a 30- or 60-minute workout can’t counteract its effects. While it might seem natural to sit this long since you’ve probably grown used to it (physically and mentally), it’s actually quite contrary to nature. Studies looking at life in agriculture environments show that people in agrarian villages sit for about three hours a day. Your body is made to move around and be active the majority changes occur when you spend the majority of the day sedentary instead. Setting a goal of taking 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day (which is just over can go a long way toward getting more movement and less sitting into your life. This should be over and above any In addition, stand up at work if you can, rather than sitting at your desk. Meanwhile, make it a point keep you functional well into old age. As noted by the authors, “This adds to the ongoing debate about the role of vitamin D3 in nonskeletal conditions. Incidence of several types of cancer could also be slashed in half if more people increased their vitamin D3 levels. One of Dr. Holick’s studies showed that healthy volunteers taking 2,000 IUs of vitamin D3 per day for a few months upregulated 291 different genes that control up to 80 different metabolic processes. This included improving DNA repair to having effect on UV radiation, which has implications boosting your immune system, and many other biological processes. If you don’t know what your vitamin D3 level is, get tested. The vitamin D3 test you’re looking for is called 25(OH)D or overall D3 status and is most strongly associated with overall health. The other vitamin D3 test available, called (1,25[OH]D), is not very useful for While sunlight is the ideal way to optimize your vitamin D3, winter and working indoors prevent more than 90 percent of those reading this article from achieving ideal levels. There’s poorer health and a shorter lifespan. Volunteering also gives you a sense of purpose and can even lead to a so-called “helper’s high, which may occur because doing good releases feel-good hormones lowering levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Giving back is about so much more than even that, though, as it will help you to connect with your community and contribute your time and/or talents to promoting the greater good. Remember, most New Year’s resolutions do fail for one reason or another. So this year, try making a simple commitment to live healthier from here on out. Start slow and small as little changes can make a huge overall difference in your health. And, when you commit to a lifestyle, it’s no longer about meeting a particular goal, like losing 10 pounds. It’s about living a little bit differently, a little bit better, so that ultimately you’re happier and healthier for it. http://tinyurl.com/zouesb8 Printed with permission.

But, eating amounts of protein could actually be worse than eating too many carbs. biochemical pathways that accelerate aging and cancer growth. most adults need about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of lean body mass (not total body weight), or 0.5 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass. In this formula, you must To do that, subtract your percent you have 30 percent body fat, then you have 70 percent lean body mass. Using the “0.5 gram of protein rule, you would need just under 60 grams of protein per day. Substantial amounts of protein can be found legumes, and nuts. Astrology for 2016, “Crossing the Bridge, the Transformative Intention

I

n the clear cold winter nights the stars exclaim their existence! Orion with his jeweled belt climbs toward Southern skies. Look up and wonder at the mystery within which you live! As we turn the wheel into 2016 we strengthen our intentions to recreate the culture and our own lives. The world as we have known it is no longer here and the world to be has not yet taken on its form. “We are here in the unraveling to reweave the world together. Invite yourself to be an agent of ongoing creativity. The deepest power is that of imagination. The Earth is a living being and the human is threaded into the soul of the world.(Michael Meade). The cosmos and the spinning planets tell a story of breakdown of the old paradigm. In this interim time the universe calls on us to raise our consciousness, be courageous in making change, and to recognize our deep interconnectedness with all life. The truth of our relationship with the Earth must now assert itself. 2016 is the year to give form to these truths and to expound upon practical solutions. It is time to root out belief systems formed through the old paradigm, that condemn, shame, polarize, and limit the potential of every human. Each of us has an important role to play, to tend the vision of a lifesustaining world. Each action we take to vitalize and shift our lives into creative possibilities rather than acting out the conditioning of the old paradigm, we create a collective luminosity that transforms our conditions and births a new world and self. The world now calls out to us to awaken!!! To survive we relocate our consciousness to our hearts and cultivate mindfulness. Such a major task of transformation for humanity! It calls on us to harness the arising power of the feminine, the receptive, inclusive, intuitive powers that understand our deep connectedness to life. What holds tight to power is challenged by that which has for many years, has been repressed. Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn linger in their tense square through 2016, challenging us at every level to

take clear actions toward building the foundations for a new world and a new life with radically different views of who we are. Our vision and our consciousness becomes the bridge into the new paradigm. Polarization between peoples, races, governments, and within oneself is the old paradigm, causing a dying way of being on this Earth. The wounds of the old paradigm now surface, and must be addressed, so new levels of integration can take place. “History is asking us to be healers (Fania Davis). We walk an edge between dancer! Saturn and Neptune form a square during the year. This alignment brings forward a confrontation with unrealistic expectations, as well as with our ideals and dreams. It asks us to look very realistically at where we are, what we have created and are creating. Many can feel let down, disappointed or overwhelmed with what they see. But this is our task in 2016, to hold true to a vision of health and wholeness, and to persevere, hold steady, redesign our lives, and have courage to give form to that vision. We will be challenged with fear through its lower manifestation and asked to develop compassion for the world and ourselves as we step into the higher calling of this lineup. At what level will we partake in this Saturn Neptune drama? We take up the courage to face our attachments to old identities that are no longer serve our health and wellbeing and through persevering intention create and anchor a renewed self, a renewed world. Saturn will root out deception. It will confront what is evasive, confusing, hidden. During this time, “old forms of relating, feeling, behaving, along with social institutions, reveal their inappropriateness in the light of new understanding. A tension all that has become obsolete develops. Before us is a challenge to radical re-evaluation out of which new insights, new values, and a new philosophical basis can eventually emerge. (Dane Rudhyar, Leya Rael). Jupiter also squares Saturn this year. On a cultural, societal

Our Light Family is an essential part of the reach of Fiamma D’Amore’s impact. It helps us to deepen our roots and strengthen our voice. You do not have to live locally to bring your own beautiful Light to our Light Family. We welcome you! Fiamma D’Amore™ is launching several initial programs beginning this February! They will be offered both locally and for our non-local community. In the coming year, and still to be scheduled, we also welcome you to our lifechanging core retreat, “The Flame!” For information on how you personally can be part of making a difference through our Light Family, our dynamic membership program,

Its Heart And Foundational Principles There are three Holy Beings who are the driving force behind this ministry. They are the Beloved Archangel Michael, the Beloved Mother Mary and the Beloved Jesus Christ. Their Love, Grace and Guidance channel through and inform all our works. They are creating Fiamma D’Amore™ as a vehicle to bless all life and are at its helm. Other Blessed Beings also contribute to this work, which is trans-denominational. “Fiamma D’Amore” means “Flame of Love” in Italian, and encapsulates the essence of what we teach and enhance through our works. Our primary foundational principles are channeled from the Divine and rooted in Universal Wisdom. They are as follows:

1. That all Life is, in essence, an evolv-

many Blessed Beings of the Spiritual Plane. They were teaching and preparing me for my purpose. It was revealed to me that I was to be used as a channel and axis point for Divine Presence to support us more directly. That when the world was ready, many Blessed Beings would assist us in creating an Institute to help all of life joyfully evolve and align with its higher expression. The Institute is to be an expansive, heart-centered resource to help us transform ourselves, our lives and our world. It is now time for this, and Fiamma D’Amore™ is this Institute.

ing expression and extension of Divine Unconditional Love. 2. That we, ourselves, are “flames” of Divine Love here to fulfill a unique and vital purpose. 3. That Divine Love continually breathes life into us, blesses and protects us, nurtures our growth and prompts us to manifest our beauty and higher purpose. 4. That our true essence may only be fully experienced by nurturing the Flame of Love within us and within life. 5. That through active alignment with Love, life rises to its deeper expression, reflects who we are more fully and supports greater levels of joy, health, abundance, wellbeing, peace, connection and harmony. 6. That the Heart is the voice of the Soul and of the Divine. It is the bridge between physical and spiritual life and the key to our fulfillment. 7. That the pain we see and experience in life does not reflect the nature of Life, nor of Divinity, but reflects our feeling disconnected from our own hearts and the false sense of separation from ourselves, from one another, from nature and from God that that feeling creates in us ~ and correspondingly, creates in our world. 8. That by healing our hearts and strengthening their life and voice within us, Divinity can operate in loving partnership with us, and our lives, and the world around us, beautifully transform in response.

Two Channeled Blessings And Teachings The Holy Ones “at our helm” want me to complete this article with two blessings and teachings that They have channeled for us. The first is an excerpt from a longer prayer called the “Flame of Love Prayer” that is central to the core teachings of our Institute and our Flame Retreat. It is both a prayer and a song, and the music was given to us by our Beloved Mother Mary. It may be used as a prayer or mantra to bless the heart, and to bless loved ones if done on someone’s behalf ~ especially children.

May My Heart Sing ~ A Blessing For The Heart May my heart sing loudly its Love Dance freely its Joy Shine brightly its Beauty Give sweetly its Grace And welcome Courageously Tenderly and gratefully That given!

The second blessing and teaching is a poem that the Beloved Ones channeled to teach us how to love and, really, to live.

Newly Minted

Love all life, each day Like you are newly minted Like nothing restricts you Like you’ve known no judgment Like all fear has been lifted All pain dissolved. Love like your life depends upon it And the joy within you Can no longer be contained! It is an honor and privilege to share my heart with you in this way! Thank you for helping us strengthen and grow this important resource in the name of Love. We welcome you with open arms and hearts!

5 Basic Steps to Boost Your Pet’s Health This Year by Dr. Becker t’s the start of a brand new year and if you’re like me, you’ve made a mental list— or maybe even a written one—of changes you plan to make, beginning today. Most of us with pets tend to include our animal companions in our New Year’s resolutions. Perhaps you’d like to help your dog get more exercise this year. Or maybe you’ve made a commitment to brush your cat’s coat more often to prevent hair balls. Here’s a quick refresher on some of the basics of providing a healthy lifestyle for your dog or cat.

I

Dr. Becker

Five Back-to-the-Basics Ways to Improve Your Pet’s Health This Year When it comes to helping your pet have a long, healthy life, there is no single thing more important than providing him with the right nutrition. To be optimally healthy, dogs and cats need quality protein, fats, and a small amount of vegetables and fruits that provide antioxidants and ger hunt whole prey. Your pet needs unadulterated, fresh, and whole foods that are moisture dense. They don’t tives, colors, additives, chemicals, byproducts, or processed or genetically modified (GMO) foods. Although animals can eat some processed foods, they aren’t designed to consume a lifetime of dry or canned diets. weight. Overweight and obese pets is such a widespread problem that many cat and dog owners don’t even realize their animal companion is too heavy to be healthy. Feeding too much of the wrong kind of food is how the problem usually starts. As a carnivore, the foundation of your dog’s or cat’s diet should be animal muscle meats, organs, and bones. Unfortunately, the foundation of most popular, affordable commercial pet diets is grains, carboexactly the ingredients carnivores are NOT designed to eat. Biologically inappropriate nutrition can contribute not only to obesity, but to a long list of diet-related diseases as well. Lack of adequate exercise is also a big risk factor in creating a too-heavy cat or dog. Our pets are designed to be physically active for optimal health. Not only does lack of exercise help to pack on the pounds, it can also cause extreme boredom and lack of mental stimulation, which in a dog in particular, can result in a whole host of behaviorrelated issues.

“Needless” vaccinations for most pets who received well-timed puppy or kitten shots include: Yearly boosters of the core vaccines (distemper, parvo, and adenovirus for dogs; panleukopenia, calici, and herpes for cats)

Over-vaccinating can create serious short and long-term health problems for your cat or dog. Yes, many pets enjoy long lives despite yearly re-vaccinations, but many others have developed vaccine-associated sarcomas, autoimmune disorders, and other life-threatening diseases. In lieu of automatic re-vaccinations, I recommend antibody titer tests at 3-year intervals to insure your pet remains immune t o the diseases

annual wellness visit to your vet. I also encourage you to have a holistic practitioner on your pet’s health care team. There is a lot that can be done to improve the health and quality of life of your animal companion beyond what traditional Western medicine is able to offer.

Environmental enrichment means enhancing your pet’s surroundings and lifestyle so that he is presented with novelty in his environment, opportunities to learn, and encouragement to engage in instincto enrich your dog’s environment can include: types of toys in varying shapes, sizes, textures, colors, and scents daily exercise/playtime of walks opportunities for social enrichment, for example, visits to the dog park, play dates with other dogs, or involvement in activities such as agility and nose work. Our pets can’t tell us when they hurt or feel sick. That’s why it’s so important for pet parents to do routine at-home wellness exams on their companion animals. This is a great way to detect any changes in your pet’s health as soon as they occur so that you can take immediate action. It’s also a great bonding opportunity for you and your dog or cat. Often, pets aren’t seen by a veterinarian until an illness is in an advanced stage. This usually means the animal has been suffering for some time, and sadly, it often means there’s no way to stop or reverse the progress of the disease. Not every condition can be detected by a physical exam, of course, but you’d be surprised how many potential health crises are averted by an alert pet owner who detects a problem and makes an appointment with their veterinarian. My recommendation for veterinary wellness exams is twice yearly in a healthy pet. Older pets and those with chronic conditions may need to be seen more often. If two visits a year isn’t feasible for you, I strongly urge at least an

Touring History Since 1985, not only has the Golden Dragon Acrobats toured North America continuously it also had copious resident shows featured in theme parks across the United States for many years. Furthermore, in 1990s, the Golden Dragon Acrobats received exceptional reviews from their European Tour 3 years consecutively. In 1998, due to the popular demand, the Golden Dragon Acrobats restructured itself and formed Asian Artists Production, Inc. or AAPI. In the next 10 years, AAPI continued to produce the Golden Dragon Acrobats and also created other shows for different markets. Some of these productions included the Amazing Chinese Acrobats, Circo Magnifico, Dream, Pagoda, and others. The latest of these theatrical productions, Cirque Ziva, was created in 2011 for a five-week run at Asbury Park Boardwalk’s Paramount Theatre, marking the first-ever residency held at the venue in its more than 80-year history. BROOKLYN

With Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 ne of the best films this year luminous, gorgeously captured, deeply soulful, with a timely, much-needed message about immigrants (formerly known as “foreigners). Both visually stunning and deeply felt, this is a surprisingly gripping and intimate story of coming to America, with all the risks, hopes and dreams, as well as requisite heart-wrenching separation from home, family and friends. With brilliant performances throughout, Saoirse Ronan shines in her role as Eilis, an Irish girl looking for a better life in Brooklyn. We witness her coming to fullness, and discovering her true self, as the story progresses. The artfulness of the film makes her gradually, ever-more radiant, making her new world a home. A passionate vision of the 1950s American “melting pot, made remarkably personal, thus a powerful story for all, especially if your own roots were once planted elsewhere (1 hr 52 min).

THE GOOD DINOSAUR

With the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn Entertainment: 4 Message: 4 What if a meteor didn’t wipe out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago? Would they have evolved into the dominant sentient species on earth, and we would be wolf-like half-breeds? Not likely, but plausibility aside, this playful idea comes to life in this visually stunning, engaging adventure. The sincere quest of a fearful Apatosaurus named Arlo (think modern version of Flintstone’s Dino is to discover courage, to “dinosaur up, which will likely resonate with children of all ages, and delivers meaningful messages through the popular Mesozoic creatures. Overall, this breathtaking journey with life-like nature scenes, delivers good laughs and likable characters a lovely treat for the whole family (1 hr 40 min).

JOY

With Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper Entertainment: 2.5 Message: 3.5 Based on the true story of Joy Mangano, who built an empire out of nothing, and directed by David O. The uneven screenplay and lack-luster script are nearly saved by ennifer Lawrence’s Golden Globewinning performance. Bradley Cooper, playing advertisement executive Neil

of the original 1977 George Lucas creation. After 38 years, seeing Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and the rest of the gang again, along with various droids and dark characters, feels almost like a “family reunion (depending on how many Wookiees are in your tribe). In addition, the new crew brings great acting chops and fresh energy to the mix. While special effects remain stellar, new vision and meaning bring dimensionality to this film, reviving the franchise. As in previous episodes, we could do without all the protracted battles, but hey, it is Star WARS. If you are a fan of the Lucas originals, you will likely love this epic creation (2 hrs 16 min).

THE MARTIAN

With Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 Ready for a training mission on Mars? It is so much like being in space, with a hefty dose of real-world science, humor and heart. This creation by Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner), based on the bestselling 2011 sci-fi novel by Andy Weir, delivers, big time. iding on the coattails of NA A’s whispers about future manned missions to Mars, and recent findings of water on our red neighbor make for exciting, intelligent and meaningful entertainment, in all its terrestrial realness. At the center for much of the film, Matt Damon (Golden Globe for best actor fills his character’s space boots beautifully, with great humanity and an indomitable and ingenious spirit, daredevil courage, and great comic timing. Damon’s fine performance delivers lots of fun and fantastic teachable moments, including those about sustainability here on spaceship arth, for re ection and admiration a fabulous film to take the whole family (2 hrs 21 min).

SISTERS

With Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, John Cena Entertainment: 3 Message: 2.5 While uneven, there are plenty of good laughs and goofball humor to keep us entertained. The talented duo is hard to resist, even as they get raunchy and slapstick silly. Though not their best collaboration, if you enjoy the popular comediennes, this oddball coming-of-age tale of girls behaving badly makes for unselfconscious, playful, trashy fun (1 hr 58 min).

THE BIG SHORT

With Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Gosling Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 The Big Short is a factual and scathing commentary on US “too big to fail arrogance and greed on Wall Street. A well made, penetrating and at times unnerving portrait of the ethical “race to the bottom that led to the collapse of financial markets when the housing bubble burst in 2007-2009. A great way to learn more about the economic collapse while being wildly entertained, it is an intelligent comitragic view from the “other side (contrarians and watchdogs) based on Michael Lewis’ best-seller The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. Steve Carell is fantastic as Mark Baum, a short-tempered money manager with a moral backbone, and Christian Bale, playing a brilliant, eccentric and antisocial hedge fund manager. Both provide stellar performances. Watching this genius creation more than once may be necessary if you want to truly understand history. A lot happens, and while there are plenty of creative teaching demos and hilarious celebrity cameo illustrations, the complexity is somewhat bewildering. Question is: have the powers-that-be learned anything? Are the reforms enough to ensure that the global casino doesn’t yet again fall to pieces, or perhaps that’s exactly what is necessary to realize deep, systemic change? (2 hrs 10 min).

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

With Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega Entertainment: 4 Message: 3 Couldn’t imagine a better continuation of the Star Wars saga! Two sequels and three prequels later, this well-crafted installment by J. J. Abrams picks up the main threads
