Climate GeoEngineering The New Year is bringing more awareness to people worldwide on many fronts. The climate geoengineering issue unfortunately has not gone away, but the good news is there are many more millions awaken! The following are some of the latest news around the climate geoengineering/ chemtrail issue: PLEASE SHARE FAR AND WIDE!

Oregon Blue Skies Project group invited former military physicist, RichardAllanMiller to speak about climate geoengineering and what the public can do about it. It was a fascinating talk. He had new health protocol information, which was quite helpful to the 70 plus group in attendance. Here’s the link to the Ashland talk. He was quite a fascinating and inspiring speaker on not only the geoengineering issue, but his discussions on metaphysics. 2) Climate GeoEngineering film Shade is worth the watch.

Great new info! In the film Arizona citizens concerned about the toxic fallout, pool together twenty citizens and take blood tests. The results are that 90% of them say their doctors report dangerously high levels of aluminum, barium and strontium in their blood (these tests confirm what citizens worldwide have found in similar blood tests). And for friends who still deny that our government would do such things, about 50 minutes into the film, you will see Freedom of Information documents in a mainstream media news show, showing in the 1950’s and 60’s the army was conducting aerosol experiments using radioactive particles and chemicals in Texas and Missouri on the unsuspecting public. They used planes, sprayers on buildings and on station wagons. Wow a must see and share! See:

3) GeoEngineering Dangers Discussed by Officials, Agency Scientists, and Other Experts by Dane Wigington.

On November 21st, 2014, a diverse panel of experts was assembled in Northern California to discuss the profound environmental and human health dangers posed by the ongoing global climate engineering programs. Northern California media completely

blacklisted this important event and gave it no coverage whatsoever even though they were notified in advance. There were nearly 500 concerned citizens in attendance from locations throughout the state, and from locationsas as far away as Alaska. Some of those present in the audience also included city officials, county officials, and other public agency personnel. Why did mainstream media totally ignore this major gathering which presented hard science data on the dire issue of climate engineering? Because corporate media’s job is to block credible data from reaching the public. All are needed to help sound the alarm on the lethal GeoEnginering Programs. Mainstream mediawill not help us in this critical battle, it’s up to us. 7) Alexandra Hunter Puts Arizona On Legal Notice to Stop Chemtrails

Alexandra Hunter (Lexie) is interviewed by Dr. Dan Koontz, MD on KFNX 1100 Independent Talk Radio on the subject of covert GeoEngineering, aka“Chemtrails. Hunter presents evidence that the State of Arizona has ultimate responsibility and oversight to protect it’s citizens from sources of pollution even when aircraft are demonstrated to be – or cannot be ruled out – as the source. This was Lexie’s first major interview following the forum convened by State Senator Kelli Ward, MD. on 6/25/2014 where the house was packed with citizens from Kingman and surrounding communities demanding the State take action to protect residents from documented aerosol toxins and diagnosed health consequences.

8) Video excerpt from Dr. Kirkby’s 2009 CERN presentation http://vimeo.com/115506310

This video excerpt from Dr. Kirkby’s 2009 CERN presentation makes it clear that IPCC climate scientists, GeoEngineers and government agencies are fully aware that jet aircraft are dumping aerosols into the atmosphere with the effect of deliberate and covert climate manipulation using aerosols of unknown toxicity. Jasper Kirkby is a particle physicist currently engaged with cloud physics research at CERN – the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Full Article here:

Santa Cruz Move to Amend ~ January 25th Santa Cruz Move to Amend will hold its first meeting of 2015 on January 25 to plan its goals for the year. Marsha Hudson and Betty Gaddam will host the gathering which will meet in a private home from 1:30pm to 3pm.Those members who attend will view the Move to Amend film, “Legalize Democracy,” and will discuss and decide how they wish to focus the group’s plans for the coming year. This local group is but one part of a coalition of hundreds of like-minded groups and tens of thousands of individuals nationwide who together form the Move To Amend organization. Springing as a result of the 2010 Citizens United ruling of the Supreme Court that granted “personhood” to corporations. Move To Amend members are committed to social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and building a vibrant democracy genuinely accountable to the people of the United States and not corporate interests. Move To Amend proposes an amendment to the US Constitution which would unequivocally state that “We, the people of the United States of America, reject the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution stating that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.” Inalienable rights belong

..

..

to human beings only, not corporations. Money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and its use in political campaigns can be regulated. More information on the mission of Move To Amend can be found on their website www.movetoamend.org. In 2014 the local Move to Amend group engaged in several activities. They mounted a petition campaign to place a resolution in support of a constitutional amendment on the November 2014 California ballot. They wrote and explored the production of the informational hour-long theatre piece “MTA - The Musical” and created a three-minute video of singers and dancers from that musical. (The video can be viewed on YouTube by searching under “Move to Amend the Musical.”) They brought 2014 to a close by dazzling downtown Santa Cruz with a Flash Mob event, singing “Corporations Are Not People” to the familiar tune of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Anyone interested in attending the local meeting is invited to call Marsha Hudson at (831) 425-8167 or Betty Gaddam at (831) 4641550 for directions to the meeting. Those who aren’t able to attend, but still want to become members of this group, are encouraged to call Marsha or Betty as well and leave their contact information. http://movetoamend.nationbuilder.com/contact

Freedom Forum Presents

There's No Place Like Utopia Filmmaker Joel Gilbert journeys across America to find out what's at the end of the Utopian rainbow. From the ruins of Detroit to the slums of Chicago's South Side, and from Denver's illegal immigration invasion to Newark's urban removal project, Gilbert pulls back the curtain on the "progressive" utopian fantasy. There's No Place Like Utopia is a humorous and horrifying exploration of political correctness and remaking "the world as it should be" as promised by the president. But is Utopia a real destination for America? Or does the true path to happiness still remain in community, family and hard work - back home in Kansas? 110 min 7 pm Wed. They attempted a utopia with characters abiding by the same principles and attitudes that define our current system - but severe our natural inclinations to help and support each other. Fox made sure that the most “diverse” types were cast for optimum “reality”. It turned out to be a good example of the fears and anxieties that govern and separate us - but more importantly the desperate desire to transcend them. We look to create a Utopia based on a completely different script that cuts out the middle man. We are putting our efforts into starting a new type of community that is fundamentally different from the foundations of the grid system. We are approaching this venture embracing all the technologies and information available today. Thus we are building a community where anyone can create anything they need with the help of 3D Printers, ShopBots, open source software, and the collective creativity and coherence of everyone in the circle. We are now digitally cutting the first geodesic dome home which will be completely self sustaining and designed with humans and life as the focus - and a better way of living together as the goal.

by Aaron Carvajal o you remember the days of typewriters and TV antennas? These were great technologies for their time, but are now relics of history and unknown to most. The developments of the last few decades have certainly changed the world rapidly. It is safe to say that the technologies and methods we use today will soon become history as well. Now we have the quickly growing development of affordable machines and printers that create objects. Your imagination is the limit. We believe today’s emerging technologies will help bring back our dependance on each other instead of the current set up where banks and insurance companies are in charge of our homes and security. The ability to print your own home is here now. We are currently creating the first prototypes of a geodesic dome home kit cut with a ShopBot, using the most common 2x4 lumber and plywood. For the majority of human existence (pre-civilization), humans have lived together in daily cooperation and communication. This is the story we would like to build our foundation upon, what we believe is the true human story - before the grid. This story involves minds and souls freed up to live, communicate, and create everyday. The tools and technologies at hand allow us to continuously improve on the design and building of our homes as well as most anything else we may need. Our plan includes the use of modern technologies to

his is Part One of a Three Part Series and will explain why the American Indians grew their crops of squash, beans and corn together as one, and will discuss the health benefits of doing so. Each series, starting with squash, will feature one of the crops and how to choose the best seeds and successfully grow them for yourself. Please enjoy, and start planning your spring garden!

Winter Squash Peruvian Acorn Squash with Rocoto Pepper and onions, squash soup, roasted squash with Rocoto salsa, and squash seeds topped with Rocoto power.

About Winter Squash

What are the Three Sisters? The Three Sisters were the principal crops of the Iroquois and other Native American groups of the northeastern United States about the time the Europeans arrived in the 1600’s. The Iroquois had been planting the three crops together since the 1300’s. Cultivation of crops brought a change in their way of life over time from hunting and gathering in the wooded areas to farming crops in fields, which were cleared patches of woodland. Although they were experts in the cultivation and widespread use of native plants, the Three Sisters became the basis of their economy. The corn, beans and squash complement each other nutritionally. The corn provides carbohydrates, the dried beans are rich in protein and balance the lack of necessary amino acids found in the corn, and the squash provides vitamins from the fruit and nutritious and tasty oil from the seeds. Native Americans recognized this complementary dietary benefit and the crops were adopted into the spiritual family of man as the Three Sisters. This relationship was held sacred and was almost universal among the settled, agricultural native people of the Americas. According to Mother Earth News, February/March 2001, “The elemental botanical differences between these three species guarantees that they will not all succumb to a single nutrition conflict, pest or meteorological event. Their growth habits and footprints on the land are markedly different, as are their nutritional requirements. Beans can thrive in half sun or in a short, wet, cool and sunless summer that won’t mature corn naturally and where those few squash that do develop are small and all seed. High winds that mow down corn and whip-shred the large, fragile leaves of cucurbits will not much bother the small, tough leaves and wiry stems of beans. And well-rooted corn will stand up to the droughts and deluges that wilt or wash out less well-rooted species.”

Winter squash is one of the richest sources of plant based anti-inflammatory nutrients with such properties as omega 3s and beta carotene, which are important for a strong immune system to help protect against colds and flu. It is an outstanding source of antioxidants and has a good amount of mineral manganese. Not only does winter squash have anti-inflammatory benefits, it also promotes optimal health and has potential in the area of cancer prevention and cancer treatment. Prostate cancer is the cancer type that has been of the greatest research interest in this regard. A second area of high potential is its health benefits with blood sugar regulation and the prevention of type 2 diabetes. Evidence in animal studies show improvement in blood sugar and insulin regulation. And, it is believed that future research will highlight the health benefits provided by winter squash for prevention of cardiovascular disease. All in all, what a tremendous Superfood! Roasted Corn Pudding in Acorn Squash - Try this recipe on for size! Prep time: 15 mins; Cook time: 1 hour 20 mins; Yield: 2 acorn squash halves; Oven temp: 375

Ingredients:

• 1 small acorn squash, cut in half, lengthwise and seeded • 1 tablespoon olive oil • 1 cup milk • 1 egg plus 2 egg whites • 1/2 cup fresh corn • 1/2 cup chopped scallions • half of a jalapeno, seeded and finely diced (optional) • pinch of nutmeg • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1/3 cup shredded white cheddar (or other favorite cheese)

Directions:

side up on a baking sheet sitting flat; use a knife to level if necessary. Cover the squash with foil and bake for 40 minutes or until tender. In a bowl combine milk, corn, jalapeno, eggs, nutmeg, salt and half of scallions (and throw in some kale squares, too!) . Puree the mixture. Fill the squash halves 3/4 of the way with the mixture and carefully place back into the oven, uncovered. Continue baking for 30 minutes or until squash is tender and pudding is set. Once baked, sprinkle with cheddar and briefly broil; you want the cheese to melt, not burn. Serve with remaining scallions.

Dostal Cucumber Squash According to Seed Savers Exchange (SSE), 2015 Catalog, the Dostal Cucumber Squash was donated to them by Arthur Dostal and was described as a Nebraska heirloom. The variety was originally grown by Arthur’s parents who resided in Iowa. They received the squash from family and friends. The Dostals were impressed with the variety and the fact that it could keep well in storage until spring. SSE agrees, as they have found the results to be the same at their test farm in Decorah, Iowa. Because of this appraisal, and for the reason that it grows well in many regions of North America, and is absolutely delicious, it is our recommendation as an excellent choice for a component of the Three Sisters. Aside from its heartiness and long storage capability, the Dostal Cucumber Squash is an appetizing winter squash with rich flavor and a smooth and buttery texture. It is cream whitegreen as a summer squash and matures to dark green, with a size and shape similar to a cucumber. Good food and excellent nutrition; it doesn’t get any better than that!

THE WHOOPING COUGH OUTBREAK

W

by Dr. Amy Kelchner, ND hooping cough, aka pertussis, is on the rise again in California. This is not a surprise since the disease tends to peak every few years, but it raises the whole question of childhood vaccines. The issue is complex and the answers are not always easy. Vaccines are a controversial topic, largely because we don’t understand their long-term effects. Studies are woefully inadequate, and they tend to isolate factors that act in concert with one another. Vaccines are inflammatory in nature and contain toxic ingredients that can be particularly damaging to a developing fetus or child. On the current CDC schedule, children are given 6 doses of 9 vaccines by the first birthday, 48 doses of 14 vaccines by age 6, and 70 doses of 16 vaccines by age 18. What we know about immune development brings into question the wisdom of giving so many vaccines so young. When dosed on schedule, vaccines actually change the way the immune system develops, and may create a propensity for allergy, autoimmunity, and chronic cognitive dysfunction. Although vaccines may prevent specific diseases, a baby’s general state of health does not benefit from them. On the other hand, certain vaccines can be beneficial when used judiciously, and the pertussis vaccine is worth consideration. Whooping cough isn’t fun. It’s a spasmodic cough with breathlessness and vomiting that can last for months. Homeopathy and herbs can reduce the severity. Antibiotics can reduce the spread. Nothing heals it but time. In babies under 2 months old it can overwhelm the respiratory system and cause distress and even death; but babies can’t handle the vaccine until 2 months, and it probably doesn’t work until they’re at

least 6 months old. If mom has been vaccinated recently, she will pass on antibodies to baby. The family can “cocoon” the baby by vaccinating family members including older siblings. When baby is held close to the healthy nursing mom, antibodies are made on the spot and given in the breast milk, protecting baby from all manner of disease including pertussis. The pertussis vaccine is given as a combination vaccine with diphtheria and tetanus, takes 2-4 doses to have its full effect, and needs to be repeated every 5-7 years. Adverse reactions tend to be mild. This vaccine is best given away from other vaccines, especially Hib. Since immunity passed on in the womb protects the baby from disease and makes vaccines largely ineffective for the first 6 months of life, I recommend waiting to give vaccines. Always feed your child a diet of nutrient-dense, whole foods, and breast-feed as long as possible. Never vaccinate a child while sick, even with a minor cold, and don’t vaccinate children who are behind on their developmental milestones. Other factors to consider when deciding whether to vaccinate include potential exposure to each disease, diet and lifestyle, and the child’s age and health status. For more information about vaccines, I am offering one hour one-on-one consultations, and will give a talk in January covering all of the childhood vaccines. Dr. Amy Kelchner, ND has had a holistic family practice since 2003 with a focus on pediatric health and craniosacral therapy. Because building a child’s health can make a lifetime of difference, she loves to empower parents to care for their children naturally and prevent unnecessary medication. Her great joy comes from working with people who are seeking wholeness, for themselves and their children. Call (831) 477-1377 for more information or to make an appointment, www.scnmc.com.

Broccoli-Sprout Compound May Improve Symptoms of Autism; Help to Detox Environmental Pollutants

Sulforaphane, found in high amounts in broccoli sprouts, can significantly improve your blood pressure and kidney function by normalizing a process called DNA methylation. Preliminary research suggests sulforaphane may also be of particular benefit for those with autism—improving verbal communication and decreasing repetitive behaviors. Broccoli has the ability to affect gene expression and promote detoxification of harmful environmental pollutants. Sulforaphane influences bacteria as well. Broccoli sprouts have been shown to inhibit Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria thought to cause gastric ulcers. H. pylori may also play a role in autism. Autistic children are known to have higher levels of environmental toxins in their system, as well as fewer health-promoting gut bacteria. http://tinyurl.com/kbkazlm

American Meat Production Uses More Antibiotics Than Ever, Despite Growing Threat of Antibiotic-Resistant Disease in Consumers The routine use of antibiotics to promote growth in food animals promotes antibioticresistant bacteria and drug-resistant disease in humans.

Meat tainted with drug-resistant bacteria can cause disease if the meat is improperly handled or under cooked. Two million Americans are infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria each year, and at least 23,000 of them die as a result. A fecal transplant may be an effective cure in cases where patients fail to respond to antibiotics. http://tinyurl.com/qxqvyv7

by Sayer Ji Fluoride is put in your drinking water ‘for your teeth’ without your consent, but did you know that it could also be calcifying your arteries? A few years ago, we reported on a study evaluating a new diagnostic technology that inadvertently revealed a link between fluoride ex p o s u re a n d coronary artery disease. Our report stirred up quite a lot of controversy and criticism, even leading one of the most respected figures in alternative medicine (deservedly so) – Dr. Russell Blaylock — to call us out on Infowars for our allegedly sophomoric interpretation of the following article: “Association of vascular fluoride uptake with vascular calcification and coronary artery disease.” As one can see, the study’s results revealed a hitherto largely unknown connection between fluoride exposure, coronary artery disease and cardiovascular events (e.g. heart attack). “There was significant correlation between history of cardiovascular events and presence of fluoride uptake in coronary arteries. The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events.” The argument, at the time, was the study was simply about a new diagnostic technique and shouldn’t be ‘read into,’ and that, presumably, the increased fluoride uptake value observed in patients with a higher frequency of cardiovascular events was a an ‘effect’ of the heart disease itself and not in any way indicative of fluoride’s causative role as a cardiotoxic agent — despite the fact that fluoride’s cardiotoxicity has already been consistently demonstrated in the biomedical literature.

Now, a provocative new study published in the journal Toxicology not only provides some vindication for our previous interpretations, but also raises serious concern over the cardiovascular complications associated with water fluoridation practices, showing for the first time that despite exhibiting an anti-calcification effect in vitro (cell model) fluoride exposure at levels found in people who drink fluoridated water exhibits artery-calcifying effects in the more important in vivo (animal) model. Titled, “Effect of water fluoridation on the development of medial vascular calcification in uremic rats,” the study opens with a description of the common medical justification for public water fluoridation: “In order to improve dental health in the population, fluoride is included in tooth pastes and mouthwash solutions or is added to public water supplies at 0.5–1.5 mg/L (WHO, 2008), which has been a common practice in some countries since 1945.” And yet, the study acknowledges that fluoride is a well-established toxicant that our body has to either incorporate into its tissues or excrete through the kidney’s to sequester or eliminate: “More than 90% of ingested fluoride is absorbed through the intestine and quickly distributed between plasma/soft tissues and calcified structures, where it can be sequestered for years (Buzalaf and Whitford, 2011). When water is fluoridated at the WHO recommended levels, the range of plasma fluoride concentration is usually 1–6 uM (Husdan et al., 1976; Singer and Ophaug, 1979). Fluoride is not under homeostatic control, and it is cleared from the plasma within few hours by the complementary action of calcified tissues and the kidneys.” Page 15

The National Sleep Foundation provides these tips‌ ‡ Stay on schedule. To the extent you can, stick to the same bedtime and wake up time to train your body to keep with a healthful sleepwake cycle. ‡ Get ready. Relax before you go to sleep. In particular, turn off your electronic devices, such as your computer and television, about an hour before bed and let quiet time replace distraction time. ‡ Skip the cat nap. Just as snacking can ruin your appetite for mealtime, napping can leave you sleepless at night, so make an effort to limit daytime naps and, as mentioned above, reinforce a sleep- and wake-time schedule. ‡ Don’t force the issue. ChiroPraCtiC Corner: SPinalglide ergokinetiC ChairS a hiStory and review

S

by Sylvia Skefich, D.C. pinalglide egokinetic chairs are unique in their design which enhances the fluid mobility of the whole spine through a mobile seat bottom. Spinalglide is the only chair with dual sided, independently moving seat pads. Structurally, ligaments “give out” after 10-12 minutes of sitting in a static position, leaving the muscles to take over. This leads to tension, inflammation, and even fibrosis (or eventual stiffening). Keeping the pelvis mobile when seated eases fatigue, promotes circulation, promotes disc health, and keeps the brain happy. The body is supposed to be in motion during the day. The Spinalglide chairs include two types of stools (including a Drummer’s Glider), and three types of office chairs. A study by the Brunel University of London shows that the mobile seat pads of the Spinalglide chairs promote greater motion of the low back and of the upper back during office tasks, as compared to a common office chair. Increased healthy motion enhances circulation, tissue health, and productivity. “Pitch, roll, and yaw”—originally nautical terms—communicate how a boat can move in the swells of the ocean. Imagine a see-saw…”Pitch” is if the see-saw did log-roll type motions (like a canoe rolling side to side). “Pitch” is the teetering motion natural to the see-saw itself. And “yaw” is if the see-saw did spinning motions, like the hand of a dial. All of these motions happen in a combined way in the human body, and the Spinalglide chair pads are designed to reflect and allow those motions. I learned about “pitch, roll, and yaw” while in my cranial studies, specifically under Richard Robertshaw, D.C. Not coincidentally, Richard Robertshaw is the developer of the Spinalglide ergokinetic

chairs which are designed to allow for the natural pitch, roll and yaw of the pelvis. Dr. Robertshaw has been developing his chairs for 14 years. He has surmounted the challenge of getting his idea to market, has rebuffed manufacturers’ pressures to compromise his designs, and has faced patenting difficulties. However, the primary challenge, says Richard, always with a wry and dry wit, is to have…a garage. “Most successes always seem to come out of garages.” He also advises, “Don’t let people dissuade you of your idea.” You can view the Spinalglide chairs at Spinalglide.com. If you wish to order a chair, the best way is to call Dr. Robertshaw’s office and speak to the receptionist. His office in downtown San Francisco is where you can demo the chairs. I look forward to receiving my “Musician’s Glider” chair that I have ordered for the office. I originally purchased the “Executive Glider” model (a regular sized desk chair), but arranged an exchange within the three week return period for the more petite version. When I took the chair away from my receptionists, they were sad, but are glad to know a replacement is coming soon. Ergonomic computEr chair BEnEfits

If you spend most of your time sitting in front of a computer, either for work or play, you might be noticing that your body is suffering the consequences. It’s not uncommon to experience aches and pains from remaining in a seated position for long periods of time, because the body simply isn’t designed to do so. There is something you can do about it, however. Let’s take a look at the health benefits of an ergonomic computer chair to see if it might be a good choice for you. A quality ergonomic computer chair provides superior support to the spine and promotes good posture. It does this through various adjustments such as the Page 12

height and tilt of the backrest. When the body is in proper alignment, there is less strain and stress on the muscles, and you’ll have fewer aches and pains after a few hours of sitting. Standard chairs, particularly when they’re not adjusted properly, don’t promote this natural alignment. This means that you’ll be slouching more as you work, and the muscles of the upper back, shoulders and neck will be strained to hold the unnatural position. At the same time, your lower back (lumbar region) will flatten out against the back of the chair, throwing out the natural curve of your spine. http://healthdailyonline.com/2011/02/ ergonomic-computer-chair-benefits/

Fluoridated Water Can CalCiFy arteries, study Finds

Those with chronic kidney disease have a harder time clearing the fluoride, which results in increased blood plasma levels, especially as the length of exposure increases. The study noted that in healthy people, almost without exception, fluoride accumulates in the aorta, and in the elderly can exceed 100 ug/g [microgram/gram] tissue. Since atherosclerosis involves the gradual hardening and final calcification of the arteries with a form of calcium known as hydroxylapatite, fluoride’s role in replacing hydroxyls within hydroxylapatite crystals to form fluorapatite can be considered enhancing the cardiotoxicity of these calcium deposits due to the fact that fluorapatite is less soluble than hydroxylapatite and therefore more resistant to the body’s demineralization mechanisms (or de-calcification with natural substances such as magnesium, hawthorn or vitamin K2). The

authors address this point: “From a therapeutic point of view, this incorporation [of fluoride into hydroxylapatite as fluorapatite] may involve an additional problem, because these calcifications will be more difficult to eliminate, if at all possible.” The report discussed how despite the observation that fluoride accumulates in the main arteries, “the effects on the vascular wall are not clear.” A brief review of the literature shows highly contradictory results, with some studies implying fluoride exposure actually reduces aortic calcification and others showing (as would be expected) deleterious effects on the cardiovascular system. This uncertainty was one of the main reasons they designed their Sayer Ji, Founder of GreenMedInfo Study can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/ ortt78u. Printed with permission.

by Margie King esearchers from the University of California Davis say the U.S. government is all wet when it comes to demonizing high fat foods. In fact, a new study shows eating high fat whole walnuts or walnut oil can slow prostate cancer growth. The researchers wanted to know what it is about walnuts that give them the prostate cancer powers observed in earlier studies. In their study published online in the Journal of Medicinal Food, the researchers fed animals either whole walnuts, walnut oil, or an oil mixture with the same fatty acid content as walnut oil.[i] After 18 weeks, the walnuts and the walnut oil slowed prostate cancer growth. They also reduced cholesterol and increased insulin sensitivity. And, they reduced levels of the hormone IGF-1 which has been linked to both breast and prostate cancer. The walnut-like oil did not have the same benefits. In other words, it isn’t the omega-3 fats in walnuts that have the anti-cancer effects. It’s something else but the scientists couldn’t pinpoint what it is. They ruled out fiber, zinc, magnesium, and selenium. And, they noted that as with many foods, the health benefits cannot be broken down to one compound. It’s multiple components that nature combined into one natural food that produces health benefits. That’s why whole foods are more than the sum of their parts. Walnuts Help Beat Stress According to researchers at Penn State

University, a diet rich in walnuts may prepare the body to deal better with stress. In a study of 22 healthy adults with elevated LDL cholesterol participants were subjected to stress either by giving a speech or immersing a foot in cold water. The results showed that when participants were following a diet that included walnuts and walnut oil, their blood pressure and stress responses were lower. Unfortunately, the standard American diet includes no nuts at all on a daily basis. But, just a quarter cup of walnuts provides more than 100% of the daily recommended value of omega-3 fats, along with high amounts of copper, manganese, molybdenum, and biotin. Look for walnuts that are marked organic and raw. Otherwise they may be irradiated and pasteurized. The papery covering of a shelled walnut is very bitter and most people don’t like it. But, up to 90% of the walnut antioxidants are in that flaky cover so it’s worth eating. Once out of the shells, walnuts can become rancid. Store them in an airtight container in your refrigerator or freezer. And don’t leave them there too long. Throw them on salads or in smoothies and yogurt. And of course, bake them into brownies, cookies, cakes and breads. Margie King is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition®. Thanks so much to The Connection Magazine and Dr. Biles for the eloquent articles honoring the recent passings of both Jeff Green and Dr. Stanley Monteith, two of our nation’s most devoted warriors for health freedom. Not only did both of these heroes work tirelessly to alert citizens throughout our nation to the dangers of fluoridation, they both played a significant part, along with Connection Magazine, in activating our local community to successfully resist efforts by our illustrious elected officials, led by perennial city council member Cynthia Mathews, to fluoridate both the cities of Santa Cruz and Watsonville between 1998 and 2002. Both campaigns required years-long educational outreach, for which Dr. Stan’s daily radio shows and Connection’s monthly issues and special publications were indispensable, but it was Jeff Green who led our charge into the electoral arena where citizens, with their votes, can undo even the bestlaid plans of misguided/misinformed politicians. Based on his years helping citizens in other communities, he was able to strategize, with a too-small crew of locals, the best initiatives to enable our communities to fend off the fluoridaters. And, we were grateful to follow his lead, and so were the voters. The Santa Cruz City initiative established our right to vote on future efforts to fluoridate, while the Watsonville initiative established common sense health standards that no fluoridation product can ever meet. While Santa Cruz officials did back-off for now, Watsonville’s politicos pushed forward with a fraudulent court case and attempts to contract with the California Dental Foundation for initial funding of the project. Jeff Green stayed involved during the several more years it took to get these ‘would-be poisoners’ of the well to back-off too. So, the next time you take a drink of your fluoride-free tap water, please raise a toast to Dr. Stan and Jeff Green, who both left this world a better place than the one they were born into. And, while you’re enjoying your water, please send your thanks and prayers for health and abundance to the publishers of the best health-promoting magazine on the Central Coast, Pattie Mills and Thom Coby. We are so grateful for all you have done and continue to do!!!! theodora kerry, santa cruz

Dear Council Members and Fellow Citizens,

After many years of peaceful protests by concerned Americans over the rampant corruption and theft of our economy, natural resources and rights protected by the Constitution, the ruling Oligarchy has chosen to bring highly destructive and lethal military weapons of war into our communities through the militarizing of our local Police Departments. This action is a last desperate attempt by the criminal 1% (which brought down the world economy in 2007) to suppress the rising tide of peaceful assembly and protests resulting from the open, in our faces violation of law, human rights and the Constitution. After seeing the video of the City Council on Youtube regarding the purchase of the Armored War Vehicle from the war in Iraq they are bringing to our community, all I can say is SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU CITY COUNCIL!! This will come back to HAUNT YOU in the future. An Open Letter (on public record) Dear Santa Cruz City Council,

I was present at your body’s last meeting Dec. 9 when the vote for the BearCat was pulled from the consent agenda, where it was buried, quite apparently in the hope that your constituents wouldn’t have to worry their pretty little heads about it. At that meeting, the police admitted that the offer to be funded by federal officials was about to time out. But, there was no mention that the City Manager, at least, had known that the grant for the Counter Attack Truck was available since May of last year. At that meeting, I said in my generously allotted two minutes, that Barack Obama, during his 2008 campaign, called for the establishment of a “civilian national security force to be “just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as the U.S. military. That is extremely hard to imagine considering the size, power and funding of U.S. military might. But, since that time, we’ve seen the police in this country not only provided with astonishing amounts of military equipment, but also more and more trained in military tactics, and in a chain of command through the Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF’s) that goes right up to the federal administration in Washington, DC. Among other things, more and more American police are being financed by various sources, including the Anti-Defamation League, to travel to Israel to train with the Israeli police. That is, our police train with forces who act as part of an occupying army in the territories captured in 1967. The way that the police, in conjunction with the National Guard, were behaving in Ferguson is in perfect harmony with the new police understanding of their role on their home turf, occupiers over an enemy insurgency. We Americans tend to be identified with the technological things we acquire. I’ve seen several YouTubes of police or sheriff’s officers demonstrating their new Homeland Security funded armored vehicles, at parades or county fairs, etc. To me it seemed obvious that these guys were very identified with the machines they were showing off. Their body language and the ways they talked seemed to show that they felt emboldened by, more powerful in association with their War Wagons. The police in New York City have now, on at least three very public occasions, turned their backs in unison to Mayor Bill DeBlasio for what they regard as treason, acknowledging that the population that the police think they’re in authority over have legitimate causes to fear the enforcers. More and more, U.S. law enforcement sees itself as separate from, even at war with, the people who live in their territories. I think the arguments that accepting a brand new, three-quarters of a million dollar armored truck from the federal government is simply prudently responsible for the protection of our first responders, are not convincing in the context of the other implications of this acquisition. Having this truck will, in a very real sense, make Santa Cruz part of the territories under occupation within the United States of America. An SCPD representative has already stated that the department had considered requesting the use of a BearCat from outside of Santa Cruz during the Occupy protests. The Santa Cruz Police don’t seem to want

any limitations on how they will use their new weapon. SCPD possession of an armored truck can only further and reinforce the increasing sense of separation that’s developing between law enforcement and the people that they supposedly “Protect and Serve. I have great trust in the abilities and resourcefulness of our police and sheriff’s departments to deal with any situations that will realistically and probably arise in our communities, without needing to deal with the presence and maintenance of a BearCat in Santa Cruz. I suspect strongly that most people in Santa Cruz, the people whose votes you ask for when seeking election, will not like the idea of having a military vehicle in their community. The fact that someone in our city government, if not you on the council then certainly your staff, may have had the same suspicion when the approval of acquiring this truck was buried in the consent agenda of the last possible City Council meeting that could approve the contract for the DHS grant. That guaranteed that the council had no choice but to make the snap approval unless they wanted to “let down the entire chain of authority that had lined up the deal—Staff, JTTF, Homeland Security and all. Who do the City Council think that they represent? It struck me at the last meeting that Council Members, in general, seemed like they felt like they represented the authority of Santa Cruz. If you consider, you can see that Santa Cruz is just us, it’s not some Great Formal Officialdom. The people coming before you are your neighbors, not your enemies. Please don’t think of us as some kind of foreign insurgency. sincerely, Bruce Tanner, Santa Cruz

Phthalates and BPA Linked to IQ Reductions in Children, but FDA Reasserts the Chemicals’ Safety

A

by Dr. Joseph Mercola, MD number of chemicals found in plastic products are known to act as endocrine disruptors. Being similar in structure to natural sex hormones, they interfere with the normal functioning of those hormones. This is particularly problematic in children who are still growing and developing, as the glands of your endocrine system and the hormones they release influence almost every cell, organ, and function of your body. Your endocrine system as a whole is instrumental in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism, as well as sexual function and reproductive processes, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals have in fact been linked to a number of reproductive health problems. Phthalates are among the most pervasive of all known endocrine disrupters. According to estimates by the Environmental Protection Agency1 (EPA), more than 470 million pounds of phthalates are produced each year. They’re primarily used to make plastics like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) more flexible and resilient, but they can also be found in air fresheners, dryer sheets, and personal care products like shampoo, shower gels, and makeup. Their prevalence in personal care products is thought to be the reason why women tend to have higher levels of phthalates in their system than men.

days when they drank the same beverage from glass bottles, which don’t use BPA linings, there was no significant change in their BPA levels or blood pressure... [T]he findings suggest that for people who drink from multiple cans or plastic bottles every day, the repeated exposure over time could contribute to hypertension.” The amount of BPA leaching from the lining of cans may actually be more significant than previously thought. After drinking from a can, the levels of BPA in the participants’ urine rose by about 1,600 percent, compared to when they drank soy milk stored in glass. According to the authors, the effects may be caused by the fact that BPA blocks estrogen receptors that are involved with repairing blood vessels and controlling blood pressure. By disrupting your thyroid hormone, BPA may also affect your blood pressure indirectly. Lead author Dr. Yun-Chul Hong told the New York Times:13 “’Clinicians and patients – particularly hypertension or cardiovascular disease patients – should be aware of the potential clinical problems for blood pressure elevation when consuming canned food and beverages.’ ...He recommended that people choose fresh foods and glass bottles over cans and plastic containers, and he urged manufacturers ‘to develop and use healthy alternatives to BPA for the inner lining of can containers.’” Amid Negative Publicity, FDA Reaffirms BPA’s Safety The industry trade group, the American Chemistry Council, has continually insisted that BPA is safe,14 and has opposed both state and federal legislative proposals to ban the chemical. Interestingly, just three days prior to the online publication of the featured BPA study, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an official announcement15 in which it reaffirms BPA’s safety. After a four-year long review16 of 300 studies, the FDA has concluded that “BPA is safe at the current levels occurring in food.” The agency also stated that “the available information continues to support the safety of BPA for the currently approved uses in food containers and packaging.” It is beyond irrational to conclude anything other than this verdict is a favor to the chemical industry. There is damning evidence against the use of BPA—particularly in food-related products that is being ignored. Ironically, Bloomberg,17 in reporting on the FDA’s announcement, even mentions that there are “more than 800 academic studies that have concluded bisphenol-A could harm reproduction and development.” So why did the FDA only review 300? And which 300 did they choose? And if there are 800 showing developmental harm, how is it that they managed to pick 300 that fail to make such a connection? FDA’s Assessment Is NOT in Line with International Findings The fact of the matter is, when industry funds research, the results are FAR more likely to support the industry’s claim of safety and effectiveness, and we know that many BPA studies were funded by the chemical industry. As discussed in a previous article, there’s also a hidden network at play. Not only has the chemical industry borrowed the tobacco industry’s strategies to keep their products on the market, they’re also using tobacco industry ‘experts’ to back up their safety claims... For example, industry-funded studies get published in certain journals that in many cases have links to

more than six points lower than children exposed to lower levels of the chemicals... The results from this study were not entirely what the authors expected. ‘We are a little surprised at the magnitude of the IQ drop,’ Factor-Litvak said... ‘We are not happy about the finding since phthalates are very ubiquitous in the environment.’” The exact cause for the reduction in IQ is still unknown, as this was only an observational study, but previous animal research has found that:6 Phthalates may affect the activity of aromatase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen. Estrogen plays an important role in brain development The chemical may interfere with the production of thyroid hormone, which plays a role in the timing of brain development Phthalates may also disrupt brain activity related to the neurotransmitter dopamine, which can produce symptoms like inattention and hyperactivity BPA Can Have a Direct, Immediate Impact on Cardiovascular Health Phthalates are not the only endocrine disruptor that can produce chronic health problems. Like phthalates, bisphenol-A (BPA) can be found in countless personal care and plastic products, including the liner of canned goods, plastic- and non-stick food containers, plastic wraps, water bottles, and cashier’s receipts. BPA, which mimics the hormone estrogen, has been linked to: • Structural damage to your brain • Early puberty, stimulation of mammary gland development, disrupted reproductive cycles, ovarian toxicity,7 and infertility8 • Hyperactivity, increased aggressiveness, and impaired learning • Heart disease • Increased fat formation and risk of obesity • Stimulation of prostate cancer cells • Altered immune function • Increased prostate size, decreased sperm At Headwaters Outdoor School we teach skills that all Earth People have used production, and throughout time to survive in kinship with the Earth. Phthalates Now Linked to Reduced IQ in Children While previous research has linked phthalate exposure to birth defects, low sperm count, polycystic ovary disease, and early or delayed puberty, just to name a few, recent research suggests prenatal phthalate exposure may also lead to reduced IQ in children.2,3 They also found an association between phthalate concentrations in the mother’s system during pregnancy and the child’s ability to concentrate, working memory, their perceptual reasoning skills, and the time it took for the child to process and retrieve information at the age of seven. As reported by CNN Health:4 “Women who had a high amount of the chemicals called di-n-butyl phthalate and di-isobutyl phthalate in their bodies during pregnancy gave birth to children who had markedly lower IQ scores, according to a new study running in the journal PLOS One.5 The study found that by the age of seven, children exposed to more of these chemicals had IQs that were

the tobacco industry. The chemical industry has also relied on scientists that previously helped discredit the science linking smoking and second-hand smoke exposure to disease. Leaked minutes18 from a 2009 meeting of the BPA Joint Trade Association also revealed some of the tactics involved in shaping public opinion, regardless of the scientific facts. Members of this trade association include the American Chemical Council, the American Chemistry Council, CocaCola, Del Monte, and many others. In this meeting, they explored a variety of messaging strategies. The attendees agreed that “the holy grail spokesperson” would be “a pregnant young mother who would be willing to speak around the country about the benefits of BPA.” One of the most disturbing aspects of the chemical industry’s efforts to hide hazardous effects is that they purposely target those who are the most vulnerable to damage, such as young children and pregnant women. The FDA’s assessment also flies in the face of a recent report co-produced by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), titled: “State of the Science of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals,”19 issued on February 19, 2014. This report suggests an outright ban on endocrine disrupting chemicals may be needed to protect the health of future generations. Touted as the most comprehensive report on endocrine disrupting chemicals to date, it highlights a wide variety of health problems associated with exposure, including: • Non-descended testes in young males • Breast cancer in women • Prostate cancer in men • Developmental effects on the nervous system in children • Attention deficit /hyperactivity in children • Thyroid cancer According to the report: “The diverse systems affected by endocrine-disrupting chemicals likely include all hormonal systems and range from those controlling development and function of reproductive organs to the tissues and organs regulating metabolism and satiety. Effects on these systems can lead to obesity, infertility or reduced fertility, learning and memory difficulties, adult-onset diabetes or cardiovascular disease, as well as a variety of other diseases.” Beware: BPA-Free Claims Are Not an Assurance of Safety In response to consumer demand for BPA-free products, many manufacturers have switched to using a different chemical called bisphenol-S (BPS). However, BPS appears to be just as toxic as BPA. In some cases, it appears to be even worse! Trading one endocrine-disrupting chemical for another is hardly making products any safer so, unfortunately, the “BPA-free” label may not mean much. Last year, researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch discovered that even minute concentrations—less than one part per trillion—of BPS can disrupt cellular functioning. Metabolic disorders like obesity, diabetes, and even cancer, are potential ramifications of such disruptions. Other animal tests20 also show that BPS has very similar effects as BPA. For example, researchers studying the effects of BPS on zebra fish embryos found that fish exposed to BPS in similar concentrations as that found in the water of a nearby river experienced explosive neuronal growth, which led to hyperactive and erratic behavior. Fish embryos exposed to BPS had a 170 percent increase in neuronal growth; while those exposed to BPA had a 240 percent increase. Another study using rats found that exposure to either BPA or BPS caused heart arrhythmia in the females. Here, the dose used was similar to concentrations found in humans. The researchers discovered that BPS blocked an estrogen receptor found only in the females, which disrupted the calcium channels.

by Adora Deva anuary is usually the month that everyone makes commitments once again to take care of their health, as well as make any changes that are wanted for a better life. One definition for success: failure and perseverance. We have to be willing to start again and take that first step toward our goal. Part of this starting again is self acceptance knowing that we might not be where we want to be, but we are not where we were. We also know if we learn from our mistakes that they are learning’s that push us forward on our evolution. With self acceptance we learn to love our self as we are. One of my favorite quotes says it perfectly, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”—Oscar Wilde Now that’s really funny, and so true. So often we seem to not be completely happy with whom we are, or have been. We can fall into comparing ourselves with others, and are often harder on ourselves than with anybody else. Did you know that a study recently found that many people see themselves as being less attractive or worthy than others? What if we could be happy with our successes and forgiving of our failures? Haven’t those failures taught us a great deal – about forgiveness, acceptance of ourselves and others, and how we can do better? What if we saw ourselves as we really are? Try this: just close your eyes and imagine a small, smiling child playing with all that innocent joyous wonder in who they are. Each one of us has that natural spark of the Divine within us, like a wondrous, accepting child. How would it feel to

Wow! “To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.”—Thich Nhat Hanh We can connect with that self-accepting part within us by “choosing” to be loving, kind and nurturing to ourselves like we are with others. We can start by “catching” ourselves being good! We can make a list of what we’re grateful for, our accomplishments and what we love in ourselves to begin strengthening that muscle. By practicing, we begin to see the natural beauty that we truly are. We make that choice, that we deserve to be loving and happy, realizing that is our true nature that comes from within our own being. We can tell ourselves, I am loved, just because! As you open to love, become inspired and connect to your joy and passion for life, you are able to recognize your own divinity and all is possible. “New You in the New Year” ( If you have been reading Connection Magazine over these last 22+ years, you know that we have featured a lot about vaccines. The THEME for January is usually, “A New You in the New Year”. In this issue with this same Theme, we are presenting a History of Vaccinations; what really are vaccinations to help us each and all understand them, as well as where we are now related to the misuse of vaccinations. Please be proactive and take charge of your life, your children’s lives and educate yourself for your own health, well-being and safety. In Health, Pattie & Thom

The Forgotten History of Vaccinations You Need to Be Aware Of by Dr. Joseph Mercola, MD Vaccines are one of the most controversial medical therapies, and it’s impossible to make an informed decision unless you know both sides of the story. In the process of knowing both sides, the historical context is critical. Dr. Suzanne Humphries, author of Dissolving Illusions: Disease, Vaccines, and the Forgotten History,1 is a nephrologist who has committed a large portion of her medical career to exposing the “lost history” of vaccinations. Barbara Loe Fisher of NVIC commented that this is one of the rare books that conducted in-depth research documenting the medical history related to mass vaccination programs and infectious diseases. I have read the book from cover to cover and would strongly recommend that you pick up a copy if you have even the remotest interest in this topic, especially if you believe in vaccines as the comprehensive documentation will likely cause you to reevaluate your position. It is an absolutely fascinating read, and in some ways demonstrates that enforcement of vaccines programs could be far worse compared to historical standards when people were imprisoned and even killed when they refused to comply. I will likely reread the book again so I can be well armed to articulately express my concerns on why one needs to have serious reservations on the validity of vaccines, based on historical precedents.

Why This Book Was Written

Dr. Humphries’ interest in this area began in 2009, when several of her patients told her that they’d been perfectly healthy until they got one

vaccine or another. Prior to this, she’d been, as she says, “agnostic” about vaccination. “I had vaccinated my dialysis patients; I, myself, was vaccinated; and I pretty much believed what I was taught in medical school,” she says. Then she started noticing that her patients were being ordered to get vaccinated on their first day of admission into the hospital—often, when they had serious diseases: inflammatory diseases, heart attacks, congestive heart failure, and one patient with cancer on chemotherapy. “My patients were getting vaccinated on their first hospital day before I even saw them, and the order had my name on it,” she says. “This alerted me that there was something going on that I had not approved of. I complained to the hospital administration about it. It was from resistance that I was met with that, ironically, led me into this path.”

Countering Vaccine Arguments Led to Startling Conclusions

The conventional paradigm states that vaccines are safe and effective, and can be given to virtually anybody regardless of how sick they are. In order to address and counter the arguments she was given for this routine policy, she had to research vaccination, which led her to discover that there is absolutely nothing in the medical literature to support vaccinating an acutely ill person. “At some point, they called in an expert to set me straight,” she says. “The arguments that I got from the experts still were not lining up with science. They were not supporting the paradigm... My patients were acutely ill, they had inflammatory diseases, and

I didn’t want them vaccinated. I was told that I was confusing the nursing staff by discontinuing vaccines in my patients. That was how it all started.” Arguments often used by vaccine advocates include the oft-stated “fact” that diseases like smallpox and polio were eradicated by vaccination. Hence, vaccines rank among the greatest medical interventions known to man. As a result, she ended up researching smallpox and polio—even though it really had nothing to do with what was happening to her patients. Alas, this was when Dr. Humphries started coming to some really startling conclusions. “In my research, I was startled [to realize] that what I found was completely counter to what I have been told and taught my entire life. I now don’t believe that smallpox vaccines eradicated smallpox. I now don’t believe that polio vaccines eradicated polio. The stories are very twisted, long, and complicated, and the vaccines have changed over time. It’s really easy to kind of throw up smokescreens here and there and make whatever argument one might want to, because people are so ignorant and because the story is so complicated.”

The Story Behind the Smallpox Vaccine

Every vaccine has a story behind it, Dr. Humphries says. The smallpox vaccine, for example, was actually developed long before the medical establishment knew anything about the human immune system. The revealed true story on smallpox alone is enough to purchase this book, and is far more detailed than the summary in this article. The vaccine was actually developed based on a rumor circulating among dairy maids. The rumor was that when a dairy maid had been infected with cowpox—which is a common infection on the udder of the cow—she would no longer be susceptible to smallpox. The rumor was a persistent one, as rumors can be, despite the fact that there were plenty of dairy maids who developed smallpox after having cowpox. But this rumor is what led Edward Jenner to develop the first smallpox vaccine. “Basically, it was made by scraping pus off the belly of a cow,” Dr. Humphries says. “Sometimes there was some goat genetic disease in there. There was horsepox mixed in there. There was sometimes human pox mixed in and some glycerin. They would shake it up; they would take kind of a prong, and puncture the skin several times... What I didn’t realize was that there were many people who devel-

oped serious smallpox disease and died after they were vaccinated. The severity of disease was often worse in the vaccinated than the unvaccinated.

There are statistics that show that the death rate was higher in the vaccinated than the unvaccinated.”

When the smallpox vaccine was developed, there was also no way to accurately diagnose the type of pox disease a person had. It may have been chickenpox, monkeypox, or smallpox, but back then, any kind of pox disease was considered smallpox—even though the vaccine didn’t actually have the human smallpox virus in it. Animal pox virus was always used.

According to Dr. Humphries, it was the most contaminated vaccine that’s ever been on the market. “If you look at a town like Leicester in England, that town was noticing that they had one of the highest vaccination rates in the vaccinated world and their smallpox breakout was higher than ever,” Dr. Humphries says.

“The people in the town had a rally. The mayor and some of the health officials were there. They all agreed that they were going to stop vaccinating... The result was quite different from the predictions. The predictions were that there was going to be a bonfire of disease set upon the planet and that these people in Leicester were risking the health of the world by not making vaccination mandatory. But, once they stopped smallpox vaccines they had the lowest rate of smallpox infection and deaths. What we show in our book— and, we show the graphs of the disease rates and the death rates—was that both of them went down precipitously after the vaccinations were stopped. That story right there tells you that vaccines were not what made the disease go away; what made the disease go away was isolation and sanitation.”

Cellular versus Humoral Immunity

When Jenner developed the smallpox vaccine, they didn’t know anything about cellular and humoral immunity, and that’s an important part of the vaccination puzzle. The smallpox vaccine, for example, does not produce cellular immunity, and that’s a problem... It produces humoral immunity, and it produces it in an imbalanced way that actually distorts your immune system, which might

even predispose you to cancer. “[It] really depends on what vaccine it is and on what age it’s given. Giving an infant a vaccine, you’re almost always going to give them a T helper 2 (Th2)-slanted disposition, which is really an unhealthy place to be. If you wait longer, you can generally get more of a Th1. But, these are all [part of] the adaptive immune system. When you talk about the cellular immune system in general, we’re talking about the immune system that’s already there, ready and able to fight disease. That’s the innate immune system. Vaccines really don’t affect the innate immune system very much. They affect the adaptive immune system. Some of them do ramp up the cellular immunity. But, mostly it’s in order to make the antibody, because cells have to make antibody. They usually do both, depending on the age and the vaccine. Mostly they’re going to give you the less desirable form of immunity, which is T helper 2 immunity, but that’s not always the case. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) will actually make more of a Th1 than the other ones. It’s really different, depending on which vaccines we’re referring to.”

Antibody Is the Wrong Way to Ascertain Immunity

One of the major arguments against vaccine-induced immunity is that it primarily stimulates the humoral immune system and not the cellular immune system. Antibodies are produced by the humoral immune system and then routinely measured to determine “immunity.” The problem with this approach is that you can have high antibody levels and still get the disease if your cellular immune system was never stimulated. One of the reasons this has occurred is that it’s very difficult and expensive to measure the cellular immune response. When you use antibody titers or levels to check for immunity, all you’re doing is getting a picture of what happened (you had an immune response); it doesn’t tell you whether you’re going to be immune in the future, because antibodies are only one aspect of the immune response. For example, those with agammaglobulinemia—a disease where you cannot make antibodies— can get infected with measles, and still respond to subsequent challenges of the virus in a normal healthy fashion and not get sick. These individuals will recover fine and will have lifelong immunity to measles, the same as someone without the diseases who is naturally infected with measles. Traditionally, the way immunity is determined is to do a test that measures antibodies, which is the humoral immune system. But, there’s no good way to assess the cellular im-

(or ‘No You in the New Year’) mune system. It’s a really imprecise science at best. As Dr. Humphries notes: “It’s not only imprecise; sometimes it’s downright inaccurate. You can have very high antibody levels, like numerous case reports of people who have hugely high antibody levels for tetanus, or normal antibodies, and have gotten some of the worst cases of tetanus. I have papers that show that people without antibody for polio have actually been able to respond to the virus as if they were already immune. The antibody really is a wrong roadmap to look at to tell what’s really going on. Sometimes, there’s correlation, but it’s certainly not a given.”

The Story Behind the Polio Vaccine

The other prime argument for the justification and support of the vaccination program is the alleged success of the polio vaccine. But here again, the historical perspective fails to support the vaccination paradigm. To this day, most people are still being vaccinated for polio, yet we’re still hearing about disease outbreaks. And, these outbreaks, it turns out, are directly caused by the vaccine itself. “The story behind polio is absolutely fascinating when you look at the politics that went on researching the vaccine, and how scientists were fired if they disagreed with the program going on through the National Foundation of Infantile Paralysis (NFIP) in the late 1940s and early 1950s. That was the vaccine that Jonas Salk developed,” Dr. Humphries says. Before the Salk vaccine became available, if you were admitted to the hospital any doctor could diagnose you with polio based on two physical examinations within 24 hours, to check for paralysis in one or more muscle groups. We now know that a number of viruses can cause paralysis, but back then, all instances were thought to be due to polio. When the polio vaccine was developed, a problem emerged. Swedish scientists were trying to tell the US scientists that formaldehyde inactivation was not going to work as planned. Their warning, however, fell on deaf ears. This was unfortunate, as they turned out to be correct. Live poliovirus, which was put in an injectable vaccine, would appear to be inactivated right after it was made, but sometimes it would “resurrect” in the vial... In essence, the formaldehyde did not kill off all the polio viruses in these vaccines, which led to live polio viruses being injected. Something had to be done to make it appear as though the vaccine was working. So, what they did was change the diagnostic criteria for diagnosing polio. Sadly, this is a very common practice in medicine. When the observations don’t fit your expectations, change

or rig the system so they do. With polio, the original criteria was two examinations within 24 hours. This was changed to two examinations within 60 days, because within 60 days, most people would recover from their bout with polio. “All those people who were formerly called polio were no longer categorized as polio because they recovered from their paralysis within that time,” Dr. Humphries explains. Then, there was the issue of testing. Prior to the vaccine, there was no testing done on blood or stool samples. After the vaccine came along, there was an epidemic in Michigan around 1958. About 2,000 people were diagnosed with polio. In disbelief over the outbreak, serological testing was done, and they discovered that the polio virus was found in only a small minority—about one-quarter of those who displayed symptoms of infection. Interestingly, in the remainder they discovered no virus at all! And, subsequently, those patients were no longer “counted” as having polio. “So simply by doing the diagnostic testing and changing the diagnostic criteria, the rates of polio [seemingly] plummeted, whether or not there was ever a vaccine. These were the kind of things that were going on back then,” Dr. Humphries says.

Oral Polio Vaccine Propagates Transmission of Vaccine Virus

It’s important to realize that the polio vaccine does nothing to prevent transmission of the virus. When you take an oral polio vaccine, the virus can still populate in your bowel, be excreted, and go on to infect another person. And, according to Dr. Humphries, the only thing the injectable vaccine theoretically does is to give you some blood immunity, similar to tetanus. This means it is only going to be effective if your blood meets the virus before the virus meets your nervous system. Once vaccine makers realized just how difficult it was to inactivate the polio virus, and many people ended up contracting polio from the vaccine, they decided to abandon the injectable polio vaccine and create an oral vaccine instead, which is more similar to the natural route of infection. Again, controversy ensued. The oral vaccine did interrupt transmission of the wild type virus, but it propagated transmission of the vaccine virus instead. “The fact of the matter is that you can attenuate a virus all you want, which means that you pass it through different animals to make it mutate enough that it’s not quite as lethal or virulent at some point. But, once you put that vaccine or that virus back into its natural host, it mutates back to the way it was,” Dr. Humphries explains. “You can give a baby an oral

polio vaccine and it can be attenuated. But, even in the vial, before you give it to that baby, those viruses are starting to revert back to their former problematic state. And then once the baby swallows that, the baby will generate some immunity in the intestine. But, what’s going to come out of that baby is going to be mutated vaccine virus. Often times this is problematic, especially in people who are immunosuppressed.” In the 1990s the US quit using the oral vaccine, and switched back to the injectable vaccine. To address the hazards of injecting improperly or inadequately inactivated polio virus, certain adjustments to the formulation were made. Modern polio vaccines are propagated and inactivated differently from earlier versions, and different countries also use different strains of the polio virus. Older polio viruses used to contain three strains of the virus. Today, some countries will only use one or two.

Polio Was ‘Eradicated’ NOT by the Vaccine BUT Through Redefinition

As noted by Dr. Humphries, it’s very easy to defeat the polio vaccine argument, as most incidences of polio disappeared because the disease was redefined—not because there was an actual change in disease prevalence. In fact, it could be argued that the vaccine did more harm than good, since some versions caused polio, and others propagated new mutated strains of the virus. According to Dr. Humphries, at one point, the only polio cases in the US were vaccine-induced. Yet, even though there are no cases of wild polio being discovered, the polio vaccine remains part of the US vaccine program... “Even today, you can just go on to the CDC website and the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). You can see that cases of polio in this country by and large occur when people get the oral vaccine in another country and then come here. When they say that polio is only a plane ride away, the truth is that disease from polio vaccine is also a plane ride away... Like I said, the injected vaccines do not interrupt propagation of the virus. If somebody comes to this country who has recently had an oral polio vaccine and he’s shedding a highly virulent strain, people in this country can start passing it around.”

Polio Epidemic Historically Related to Increase in Sugar Consumption

Here’s another interesting tidbit that no one ever talks about: In the past, it has sometimes been suggested that a large part of the polio epidemic was related to increases in sugar consumption. Dr. Benjamin Sandler

wrote an entire book about this, and Dr. Humphries refers to his work in her book as well. She explains the connection as follows: “Polio’s an enterovirus [i.e. a virus that enters the body through the gastrointestinal tract and thrives there]. The integrity and the flora population in your bowel is extremely important when it comes to dealing with any kind of bowel infection. A diet that’s high in sugar is going to 1) impair your cell-mediated immune system and 2) trash your gut flora... [It was] shown that in populations who cut back on their sugar intake, the rates of polio plummeted... But, it was so unbelievable that nobody really listened to him. It was the same as when Dr. Frederick Klenner tried to say that he cured 100 percent of patients with intravenous vitamin C and [it] just didn’t register. The... low-sugar diet was very effective because of the effect it has on the immune system and on the bowel flora. The same with dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT); DDT really trashes the bowel, the intestinal walls, and the flora.... Not only can DDT give you all the symptoms of polio all by itself, it can also make the polio virus much more virulent and active in the body for the same reason: it disturbs the normal function of the bowel.” DDT exposure has also been linked to Alzheimer’s disease, and it’s worth noting that the contemporary equivalent of DDT, glyphosate, according to Dr. Don Huber, professor emeritus at Purdue University, is far more toxic than DDT. It definitely has been shown to decimate your microbiome, and glyphosate preferentially kills bacteria known to be beneficial for human health.

‘You Cannot Dabble in the Topic of Vaccination’

Dr. Humphries left a successful practice making more than $300,000 a year to be a poorly paid researcher. For her, it was worth it, because her integrity wouldn’t allow her to turn a blind eye to what she now knew to be wrong. “If you want to make these [vaccine] arguments, we have to have information and we have to have knowledge. We have to understand the history, the medical literature, the biology, the chemistry, the physiology, and the immunology. That is not easy. You cannot dabble in the topic of vaccination. If you do, you’re likely going to be toppled by the pro-vaccine lobby because they’re doing their homework. I felt it was more important to do my homework and make these arguments that I wanted to make... I do lectures if people invite me. I have toured through Scandinavia. Our book has been translated into two different languages... Right now, I’m

really immersed in the topic of infant immunity because there is so much information that has just come out in the past few years that, in my opinion, turns the vaccine paradigm for infants completely on its head. Instead of arguing about any particular vaccine, if you understand the way the infant immune system is designed, you can automatically see that if you were going to toss any kind of a vaccine in there, you might give them some short-term immunity, but you’re also going to change their immune systems so that it can’t function the way it was designed to function... The arguments against vaccines, when you really understand the infant immune system, I think are irrefutable.”

Science of Epigenetics Changes Everything Yet Again...

Epigenetics is another field where biology is being turned on its head and all the old paradigms are being tossed out. Epigenetic science now tells us that our genes are NOT our destiny, and the problem is that once you start to epigenetically tinker with the infant immune system, you are basically depositing what Dr. Humphries refers to as “little cluster bombs” that will eventually “explode into a big problem.” As an example, she cites a study by Nikolaj Orntoft, in which African girls were injected with a tetanus vaccine to see which genes might be upregulated or downregulated. What they found is that there’s really no way to predict which genes will be affected. So, not only will each individual have a unique response to any given vaccine, based on their current health status, we’re also epigenetically predisposed to respond differently in terms of the side effects we might develop. This means that having a vaccine compensation table for reimbursement for vaccine damage is nonsensical as we’re bound to have different genes upregulated after vaccines are given. “We can have cancer genes upregulated, or autoimmune diseases upregulated. This has been shown in modern literature that used these highly sophisticated gene techniques to actually watch what happens after the vaccine is injected. I think this is really powerful information to show that, when vaccines started, they knew nothing about the immune system. Then scientists knew something about the immune system, but now we know about the genetics of the immune system and the epigenetics of the immune system, and that’s got to be taken into account...”

“New You in the New Year” (or ‘No You in the New Year’) Most Doctors Are Completely Uninformed, Which Means You Cannot Make an Informed Choice Dr. Humphries stresses the importance of “thinking long and hard” about how much information you’ve been given before your child is given a vaccine. “[Vaccines] can have tumorigenic kidney cells of a cocker spaniel in it. It can have fetal cells with retroviruses. [It can have] aluminum, which is one of the most horrible things to inject into any sort of life form, especially into a muscle... Parents really need to know that their doctors are not informed and therefore they cannot give informed consent, and that they really need to think about it because you cannot unvaccinate. The fear of, ‘Oh, what if my child gets a disease’—that’s where knowing the history is really important because what we’re talking about is what conditions people are susceptible to. That’s really more important than transmission. Because, yes, measles transmits very rapidly through the population, but it actually has a lot of benefits to the immune system—so much so that they’re using it to treat cancer today.” We really need to understand each disease—what the risk of it is, how it’s transmitted, what the vaccine effectiveness is, and what the risks are. Dr. Humphries also notes that the human body is designed in such a perfect way that there is a system in place to handle just about anything that happens to it, provided we’ve treated our body properly. “Babies who come into this world in a normal and natural way, who are breastfed for an appropriate amount of time, that’s the best protection you could ever give to your baby’s immune system or brain. Consider that when the fear starts to creep in. If you’re breastfeeding your baby, you’re already giving the most powerful thing on the planet that can be given to that baby,” she says.

More Information

People have been scared into believing vaccines are the answer to prevent disease, but

when you look at the historical evidence, the arguments used simply fall apart. There’s just no question that improving your innate immune system—through reducing sugar and processed foods in your diet, improving your gut flora, leading a healthy lifestyle, and having adequate vitamin D levels, ideally through sensible sun exposure—will provide a far more effective immune response and virtually eliminate any risk of developing a life threatening infection.

The key is to have the courage to trust in this truth—that your body is designed to maintain health.

Its natural course and direction is to be healthy not sick. If you have a healthy lifestyle, exposure to nearly all of these infectious agents will ultimately make you healthy and stronger. This is similar to exercise, which actually tears your body down to make it stronger. Nature actually knows what it’s doing, whereas, putting chemicals into your body based on human theories (or rumors!) that are oftentimes completely wrong, is unlikely to produce better results. As noted by Dr. Humphries: “We have a highly profitable, lucrative religion that involves the government, industry, and academia. That religion is vaccination. People believe in vaccines. They’ll tell you, they believe in vaccines. But, you ask them what they know about vaccines, and it will be almost nothing. In fact, the people who argue the loudest usually know the least when it comes to trying to convince you to take the vaccine. That’s been my experience. Medical schools are bereft of information on the history of vaccination, on the contents of them, and the potential problems. We have the go-to doctors, like Dr. Paul Offit, teaching doctors how to talk to vaccine-refusing parents. We have doctors like Dr. Robert Jacobson putting out PowerPoint presentations to give to doctors, literally telling them to persuade the parents rather than to inform them... Doctors are really being systematically brainwashed. Not only that, but if doctors do start to see problems... wake up to it; do their

My colleagues would come to me with their medical problems... But, once I started to argue against the practice of vaccination, I was automatically tossed into the category of a quack...” To learn more, I couldn’t more highly recommend Dr. Humphries excellent book, Dissolving Illusions: Disease, Vaccines, and the Forgotten History, available on Amazon. You can also find more information on the book’s website, www.dissolvingillusions.com. I have read it cover to cover and plan on doing so again as there is loads of powerful information that helps combat the blindly foolish acceptance of nearly all media and professionals on the value of vaccinations.

Protect Your Right to Informed Consent and Defend Vaccine Exemptions

With all the uncertainty surrounding the safety and efficacy of vaccines, it’s critical to protect your right to make independent health choices and exercise voluntary informed consent to vaccination. It is urgent that everyone in America stand up and fight to protect and expand vaccine informed consent protections in state public health and employment laws. The best way to do this is to get personally involved with your state legislators and educating the leaders in your community.

THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY.

National vaccine policy recommendations are made at the federal level but vaccine laws are made at the state level. It is at the state level where your action to protect your vaccine choice rights can have the greatest impact. It is critical for EVERYONE to get involved now in standing up for the legal right to make voluntary vaccine choices in America because those choices are being threatened by lobbyists representing drug companies, medical trade associations, and public health officials, who are trying to persuade legislators to strip all vaccine exemptions from public health laws. Signing up for NVIC’s free Advocacy Portal at www.NVICAdvocacy.org gives you immediate, easy access to your own state legislators on your Smart Phone or computer so you can make your voice heard. You will be kept upto-date on the latest state bills threatening your vaccine choice rights and get practical, useful information to help you become an effective vaccine choice advocate in your own community. Also, when national vaccine issues come up, you will have the up-to-date information and call to action items you need at your fingertips. So please, as your first step, sign up for the NVIC Advocacy Portal.

Share Your Story with the Media and People You Know

If you or a family member has suffered a serious vaccine reaction, injury, or death, please talk about it. If we don’t share information and experiences with one another, everybody feels alone and afraid to speak up. Write a letter to the editor if you have a different perspective on a vaccine story that appears in your local newspaper.

Make a call in to a radio talk show that is only presenting one side of the vaccine story. I must be frank with you; you have to be brave because you might be strongly criticized for daring to talk about the “other side” of the vaccine story. Be prepared for it and have the courage to not back down. Only by sharing our perspective and what we know to be true about vaccination will the public conversation about vaccination open up so people are not afraid to talk about it. We cannot allow the drug companies and medical trade associations funded by drug companies or public health officials promoting forced use of a growing list of vaccines to dominate the conversation about vaccination. The vaccine injured cannot be swept under the carpet and treated like nothing more than “statistically acceptable collateral damage” of national one-size-fits-all mandatory vaccination policies that put way too many people at risk for injury and death. We shouldn’t be treating people like guinea pigs instead of human beings.

Internet Resources Where You Can Learn More

I encourage you to visit the website of the non-profit charity, the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), at www.NVIC.org: • NVIC Memorial for Vaccine Victims: View descriptions and photos of children and adults, who have suffered vaccine reactions, injuries, and deaths. If you or your child experiences an adverse vaccine event, please consider posting and sharing your story here. • If You Vaccinate, Ask 8 Questions: Learn how to recognize vaccine reaction symptoms and prevent vaccine injuries. • Vaccine Freedom Wall: View or post descriptions of harassment and sanctions by doctors, employers, and school and health officials for making independent vaccine choices. If your pediatrician or doctor refuses to provide medical care to you or your child unless you agree to get vaccines you don’t want, I strongly encourage you to have the courage to find another doctor. Harassment, intimidation, and refusal of medical care is becoming the modus operandi of the medical establishment in an effort to stop the change in attitude of many parents about vaccinations after they become truly educated about health and vaccination.

However, there is hope.

At least 15 percent of young doctors recently polled admit that they’re starting to adopt a more individualized approach to vaccinations in direct response to the vaccine safety concerns of parents. It is good news that there is a growing number of smart young doctors, who prefer to work as partners with parents in making personalized vaccine decisions for children, including delaying vaccinations or giving children fewer vaccines on the same day or continuing to provide medical care for those families, who decline use of one or more vaccines. So, take the time to locate a doctor, who treats you with compassion and respect and is willing to work with you to do what is right for your child. www.drmercola.com Printed with permission.

FINDING THE WORDS

W

by Susan Springfield hat does God feel like? That is the question posed in an on-line survey by Neuroscientists Andrew Newberg and Mark Waldman in the book, How God Changes Your Brain. Of the nearly 5,500 words that people used to describe their conception of God, very few people used the same words, phrases, or expressions in their descriptions. The authors concluded that spiritual experiences are unique, at least when it comes to our ability to describe them in words. I wish they had worded their question differently. What if they had asked, “Do you have experiences that feel spiritual? What feelings do you feel?” I am one of those people who think there is value in finding words for the hard-to-express. I have friends who think it diminishes a deep experience to describe it, and that may be true, but words, for me, make fleeting feelings real. I find value in building my spiritual vocabulary.

Some experiences I would describe as “spiritual” not because they are unusual, but because they are amplified. Feelings of great love, deep peace or profound joy, feel spiritual to me. Sometimes I feel spiritual feelings as a sense of context and perspective. I feel myself in my own life and at the same time, as part of this complex and evolving whole. It is similar to feeling a part of history, but on an even larger scale. Spiritual feelings can surprise me. I’ve had dizzying moments when two world views seem to collide and I am sure that nothing can ever be the same as it was before. (And it hasn’t been.) In other moments, in the midst of fear, I’ve felt an instant of truth where I know that everything will work out. This feels spiritual to me. I’ve been jolted by a sense I can only describe as “recognition.” I feel I am meeting up with something or someone my very soul has been waiting for. Sometimes, what I recognize is the goodness of my deepest self.

TOGETHER WE CREATE

T

by Candace Stuart-Findlay he start of a new year tends to invoke thoughts of new beginnings; at least it always has for me. However, just in the last six months, I have experienced a deeper understanding of what it means to begin anew. Being that we are, in truth, fields of electromagnetic frequencies, every shift we create in the frequency we transmit and receive has the potential for a “new beginning!” Wow… how empowering! Let’s breathe that in for a moment. So, if our day-to-day experiences are not joyfully fulfilling, it is because we are in a self-perpetuating loop of predominantly transmitting and receiving Fear/Anger energy. (Remember, what we experience in the physical world is the after effect or result of what frequency, Fear/Anger or Love/ Joy, we first transmitted, be it consciously or unconsciously. It becomes self-perpetuating when we see the deflating, valuediminishing events and transactions as “happening to us”, rather than co-created by us, and react to them by feeling more Fear/ Anger energy.) Knowing that our outside world is merely a reflection of what we first transmitted provides us with an instant feedback tool. (How cool is that?!) It also clarifies our unconscious focus by revealing to what are we predominantly paying attention.

THE

SHIFT!

That instant feedback empowers us to recognize when we are on Fear/Anger transmission overload. This then gives us the power to know when to shift back into our Love/Joy frequency transmission mode. Every “Now Moment”, every moment that we are aware of our predominant frequency transmission, is an opportunity for a New Beginning! Feeling self-critical? Recognize it, and immediately invoke something that makes you feel good! Signal the Universe/Quantum Field that you are open and ready to receive more Joy by feeling good now. Shall we create an expanded field of Love/Joy energy in 2015? I vote YES!

I think of these feelings as spiritual, and I try to savor and cultivate these experiences. At times, I am overwhelmed by the strength of these feelings and I cry with gratitude. Other feelings are subtle and need a little coaxing. Sometimes, they drift by, and I notice them only in passing. Words help me. Since reading the Good Times article on lucid dreaming by Maria Grusauskas, I’ve begun writing about my dreams when I wake up in the morning. The process is like trying to capture smoke. Dream fragments are elusive and fragile, but if I can remember a tiny piece of the dream, I can reel in other details. Words bring the dream back to life. Sometimes, finding the right word makes the dream metaphor crystal clear. Spiritual experiences can feel as elusive as dreams. When I give these experiences my attention, when I dignify them, I issue an invitation for more. Spiritual feelings may be beyond words, but there is value, for me, in finding the best words I have. by Karin Leonard elcome aboard 2015! The youthful spirit of a brand new year is a powerful potion. Intentions are fresh and visions clear, and the dynamic drive of starting over energizes January. With a surge of enthusiasm and hopeful dreams we embark on another adventure. This article series is meant to inspire your launch into a year of SURIRXQG IXOĂ€OOPHQW DQG WR SURYLGH IXHO IRU the journey. Use Your Inner Compass As you set sail, knowing where you are headed helps to steer your ship. Sure, you might not be able to predict the wind or ocean currents, yet your direction is up to you. Being precise in your intentions gives you a greater chance of actually arriving at your destination. Not sure where to go? Even if you feel unclear, the deeper truth is you do know what you really want. Your greater authenticity may be veiled by perceived limitations, “shouldsâ€? and all kinds of reasons for why you can’t live the life you yearn for. Your reality-based mind might keep tight rein on the dreams your heart and soul desire. For what price? Who says you can’t create what you want? And why give power to those voices, rather than the song of your soul? Life is all about choice. You are the captain of your ship, and if you say something is not possible, it won’t be. However, when you lift the deceptive fog of conditioning, a whole new world comes into view. Like a sailor who has been staring out at endless seas, suddenly, there is land, and it is as real as the rocks of Gibraltar. Create Your Itinerary So, all “ifs and butsâ€? aside, what do you want? What are the dreams and themes of your life? What destinations do you want to set sail for? Dream big. Take a walk on the beach, make a date with your journal and envision the life you want. Don’t let yourself be restricted by what you think is possible. Looking back many years from now, what will have you feeling IXOĂ€OOHG DQG JUDWHIXO" In making a plan for 2015, consider the changing energies throughout the year. Your plans, and what emerges in the universe, in your life and in your day, can form a dynamic synergistic dance — as you notice and sail the currents. As a matter of fact, the greater the accomplishments, the greater may be the caliber of the help involved. Hire experts for maximum results — having dedicated allies on your side creates synergy for you to succeed on a whole new level. Last but not least, don’t postpone happiness until you have reached you destination. Your life is happening right now, not when your ship comes in. by Megan Montero he new year brings a great opportunity for a fresh start and there is no better place to begin than clearing clutter at home. Clutter is anything that no longer serves a purpose in your life. Clutter can even be things you love if they are scattered around and unorganized. Is your closet so crammed with clothes that you can’t find anything? Do you have a room where you throw everything you don’t know what to do with? Do you bump into furniture as you walk through your house? Clutter can inhibit the flow of a healthy life. If you answered yes to these questions then you could benefit from some clutter clearing. We are connected energetically to everything we own. Having stuff is not bad, there are many things that are useful and meaningful to daily life. Objects that we have negative emotional connections to, or unused, unloved things can hold us back from living full lives. Every aspect of our health is connected to a specific place in our home. energy blockages in our homes and this can create blockages in our health and in our life. Have you ever noticed how overwhelming it feels to be in a home that is filled with clutter? My clients who have clutter feel overwhelmed, stuck, and their lives are either chaotic or at a standstill. My clients are amazed and energized by the movement and good fortune in their lives after clearing their clutter. Clutter clearing guidelines: Are you keeping things that serve no purpose in your life? Keep only things that you absolutely love and find useful. Ask, “Why am I keeping this? Is it worth it to maintain this?” Do you have possessions that bring up things about the past that you are ready to leave behind? Clearing clutter can feel really good. Once you let go of the things that are no longer serving you the weight of this burden will be lifted and you may want to get rid of more stuff. Taking

the time to go through your things will actually create more time for life in the future Clearing clutter is a process of letting go that often happens in layers. Things we are not ready to let go of today, we may be ready to let go of tomorrow. Our society tells us that the more we have the happier we will be. The truth is that most people find having less is more and having more is a burden. The more conscious we make our choices about what we buy and keep, the better we will feel. The value and meaning of what we surround ourselves with increases when we clear our clutter. This creates a sacred space to live and thrive in. Keep carving out time to go through your stuff, you will be surprised at the changes it brings. Megan Montero is a Feng Shui Consultant and offers De-cluttering and Organizing coaching. endless, and mostly fruitless, gossip about freedom, states of consciousness, teachers, and teachings that fuels the endless search for states of consciousness—requires the willingness to call off the search and be ruthlessly honest with yourself. What is the real reason you are looking for freedom or enlightenment? Do you secretly think it will give you magical powers? Or maybe provide you with notoriety or fame? Or maybe simply you are looking for freedom in the hope that it will end your deep sense of self-hatred? But what does your search for freedom actually avoid? Initially, the search is essential. You have to begin the search in order to discover the teaching and teacher that supports your spiritual evolution. Yet, if you continue to jump from teacher to teacher, and lineage to lineage, it keeps your spiritual evolution superficial. If you continue looking for freedom, there is no real opportunity for deepening or the development of spiritual maturity. The process of seeking, and never

finding, is simply an avoidance of the naked intimacy of the bliss of freedom that is alive in your heart right now. It is a form of self-torture that lives in the promise that you will find freedom somewhere else, which keeps you constantly looking for what you hope will give you the happiness you are looking for. Sooner of later, seeking will transform into spiritual suffering. Or you can read these words and find yourself wondering how bliss can be inside of you when mostly you feel sad, or, deep down, you feel worthless and unlovable. It is simply essential to stop seeking in order to give yourself the opportunity to discover what is really going on inside of you. This stop can be uncomfortable. When you call off the search, the deeper unwanted emotions can come to the surface. Often, self-hatred, or the deep sense that there is something wrong with you, is lurking just underneath the constant distraction of seeking happiness or freedom. Once you stop, you can cut through the deep root of self-hatred by noticing that it is fed by your own internal conversation and deep belief that you are worthless. This internal conversation can often be traced back to something that happened in your childhood—a moment frozen in time—the source of the deep sense that there is something wrong with you. Often this long forgotten memory remains as a kind of immaturity, or shadow child, that has been abandoned in your subconscious. Page 29

cleaning emotionally and physically It’s really important to understand that you were not alone in how you felt in 2014 for some. It was like a widespread epidemic feeling lost and not knowing what direction to take. As January 1, 2015 the Universal energy shifted from difficult to the doors of opportunities opening. There are certain events that are sure to happen in this New Year so you will want to pay attention to any knock at your door. The “8” Universal Year will be a year for new energies for business, finances and getting organized for you to move forward in a positive new direction. It’s time to prepare for the rewards that 2015 will bring for those who are willing to step up to the plate and go for it. level. It was a year to confront and resolve what needed to be offloaded so you could prepare for the “8” Universal Year. This is a time for rejoicing; going from lack to abundance. However, for those individuals who were unable to make the necessary changes last year, they may lose a great opportunity and remain stuck if they didn’t address the conflicts to resolve them. There are nine Universal Years that repeat in 9-year cycles throughout your life and are calculated by adding the numbers of the year together (2+0+1+5= 8). Each Universal Year brings with it a new assignment as listed below. 1 Universal Year = Year to positively move forward to take action 2 Universal Year = Year of peace and harmony working on partnerships 3 Universal Year = Year for social activities and communications 4 Universal Year = Year for nose to the grindstone for rebuilding 5 Universal Year = Year of changes 6 Universal Year = Year of personal adjustments, relationship building 7 Universal Year = Year for total evaluation and off-loading obstacles 8 Universal Year = Year to restructure and financial opportunities 9 Universal Year = Year for spring

by Joanne Justis bet if you asked anyone close to you or even a stranger for that matter if they had a good year in 2014, you would not find too many happy campers. 2014 was a very difficult Universal Year for most people. Before I explain why this was, it’s important to understand that Universal Years bring in new energy frequencies as we leave one year and enter a new one. The Universal Year, which is not personal to you, is the Universal energy shared by everyone in the world on a calendar year, i.e., 2013, 2014 etc. Either way, the numerical value assigned with each passing year still factors into the bigger picture of what’s going on in your life. With that said, 2014 was a “7” Universal Year that was intended to be a year for completions, seeking the truth possibly, pursing education, personal development and going within. It was not meant to be a “social” year in general but a time to remain more secluded. Most everyone I’ve come in contact with are either struggling financially, dealing with health issues, relationships or experiencing all three challenges. The purpose of this past year was for you to identify the obstacles and then take action to resolve them. The “7” Universal Year then was a year for total reevaluation of all areas in your life. The purpose was to eliminate barriers or whatever was not working, both on a personal or professional

Have You Heard the Call of the Soul?

February 6–8 California ECK Statewide Seminar in Seaside

H

by Heather W. Davari ave You Heard the Call of Soul?—the 2015 California ECK Statewide Seminar February 6–8, along Monterey Bay in Seaside—offers an opportunity for truth seekers from any faith to learn how to ride the waves of life’s uncertainties with grace. But what exactly is the call of Soul? For me it’s those subtle, or not so subtle, nudges that urge me out of my comfort zone to scale greater spiritual heights. “If you are a sincere seeker of truth, you realize that something within you is constantly pushing you from the nest. You know the answers you seek do exist somewhere in this world. This inner force that pushes you to find the answers is an urge you have no control over,” writes Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar. “It is the call of Soul.” As a youth, I experienced the call of Soul as a desire to fulfill an unspoken promise, specifically to serve purposefully through my work. I have traversed the country and countless job paths, unwilling to settle

for anything less than my “calling.” Like many people, though, I’ve found that passion sometimes has to take a back seat to bringing in a paycheck. Feeling creatively and financially unfulfilled by my current station, I am faced with two choices: accepting mediocrity or pressing onward into the unknown of a new career path—again. The call of Soul can be an uncomfortable proposition to our human state of consciousness, which seeks only changeless comfort. Whereas Soul, our true and lasting identity, seeks ever richer experiences designed to lead us to a greater understanding and capacity for divine love. For some, the call means opening the heart to a new relationship, accepting the departure of a once-trusted friend, or dealing with the death of a spouse. For others, it’s finding their way after being fired from a job. Yet these sometimes inconvenient, often downright painful scenarios are a gift

of divine love. It is when I, as Soul, have found my greatest opportunities for growth. When else do we put forth such effort to summon our God-given creative powers than when we are in a self-created pickle? In these moments of frustration I am called to look deeper within—to slow down, open my spiritual eyes and ears to my inner guidance. Gratitude becomes my elixir as I surrender to this spiritual metamorphosis. For many, it is easier to resist their inner truth—stay in a stagnant relationship, endure an unfulfilling job—than to brave the unknown. But for me, I know that I am only cheating myself out of the confidence, joy, and renewed love of life that can only come when I trust the bounty of the universe and take a chance on myself. Please visit www.CallofSoul. com or call (877) 504-6364 for more information about “Have You Heard the Call of Soul?” the 2015 California ECK Statewide Seminar February 6–8, in Seaside. All faiths are welcome. Heather Worthington is a freelance PR professional, marketing writer, and community builder based in Los Angeles.

by Christopher Love have to begin this New Year article by giving thanks for the rain. The drought has been long. Presently the mountain slopes are white and I am stoked to report that the river is flowing once again. No matter if you celebrate the Gregorian, Chinese or Tibetan New Year, all three of these transitions happen within approximately fifty days of one another. The people of Earth have celebrated calendar changes ritualistically for thousands of years. I did some research and found that there are recordings of Lunar calendars that date back 8,000 years. One common ritual that people all over the world engage in at the beginning of a new year is taking time to reflect on, assess and integrate the past. During this process care is given to recognize key learning points and insights. For many these insights bring about changes and New Year resolutions. The year of the Goat or the Sheep? A NEW VISION

T

OF

HEALTH

by Joy Binah he time has come to make a commitment to love yourself! Welcome the New Year with a new vision for health and vitality! It’s time to get real and throw open the kitchen cupboards! Clear out the processed, toxic foods that lurk in your cabinets—you now know which ones they are—and make a commitment to truly feed your body. What type of salt are you using? Beautiful pink Himalayan salt is packed with minerals. How about fats? It’s important to get to know your fats and have the right ones available in your pantry; coconut and olive oil are musts! The abundance of low glycemic sugars will make it easy to toss the highly refined and processed white sugars out for good. We have unknowingly eaten our way into this health crisis and we must take charge and, knowingly, eat our way out! Get your grocery list together; it will be fun and exciting to begin! Consider buying a couple of the ingredients I’ve listed and begin becoming acquainted with their versatile uses. I’d start with chia seeds and goji berries. Start using chia in dishes you already make such as soup, salad, yogurt and, if it moves you, go ahead and give the chia breakfast bash a try. Goji berries can also be included in a wide variety of dishes you already eat, so drop in a handful or eat them right out of the bag. It’s not necessary to make the recipes to enjoy these superfoods. Consider making a big pot of quinoa, enough to have plenty left over to incorporate in other quick and easy meals like a soup or salad. Quinoa is great cold with lemon, olive oil and salt; how easy is that? Experiment with concocting a green smoothie that appeals to you, and make it taste

delicious so you’re sure to indulge every day! Pick what appeals most to you and begin there. Know that as you’re making this commitment to your health and well being, you are also committing to a healthier future for yourself and our beloved planet. I offer a simple, powerful mantra or prayer for your journey: The food that I am eating, absolutely and unconditionally, contributes all of its nutrition and intelligence to positively affect the quality of my life on all levels: physical, emotional and spiritual. And it supports my ability to step into the highest vision of my Self with enthusiasm and vitality! My gift to you is a free monthly TV show that you can access through my website: www. ConsciousInTheKitchen.com. Take Back Your Power and do it with Food! Ingredients, easy recipes, sustainability and community connections support and reclaim the joy of simple food preparation that truly nourishes the whole family. Food demonstrations. Engaging interviews and stories with community notables such as local food authors, sustainability experts, gardeners, health care practitioners and entrepreneurs. On-site visits to local farms, stores, restaurants and farmers markets. Stress: You Can Run but You Cannot Hide

DID YOU KNOW THAT . . .??

Asparagus Asparagus is high in glutathione, an important anticarcinogen. It also contains rutin, which protects small blood vessels from rupturing and may protect against radiation. Asparagus is a good source of vitamins A, C and E, B-complex vitamins, potassium and zinc. Avocado Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat, which is easily burned for energy. An avocado has more than twice as much potassium

as a banana. For a delicious, creamy salad dressing, mix together avocado and fresh carrot juice. Beet Greens/Root Beet greens contain notable amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus. They also contain vitamins A, B-complex and C. Beet roots are high in carbohydrate levels and should therefore be used sparingly. The moment you fully meet this shadow child—and consciously invite this long abandoned aspect of yourself to rest in the infinite safety and love of your heart—the deep root of self-hatred simply vaporizes. Discover t he Therapeutic Benefits of Massage

T

by Danna Norek he health and wellness benefits that massage offers are more abundant than once thought. Emerging research points to a growing list of advantages that range far wider than simple anxiety, tension, and pain relief. One of the most interesting benefits uncovered is a possible link to improved immunity. Studies have shown that those who receive regular massage have lower cortisol levels in their saliva. Cortisol is the “stress hormone, and it is linked to a lower immune function. Cortisol actually kills off the cells that are necessary for healthy immunity. Lowering this hormone in the body not only can lead to greater immune response to foreign invaders, but it also leads to lower stress and anxiety levels. Lowering cortisol levels has also been linked to a greater ease in losing weight and keeping it at a healthy level. The mental health benefits from lowered stress levels and regulated anxiety are probably worth it alone. However, there are even more advantages your body reaps from getting massaged regularly. Studies have indicated that regular massage helps with hypertension. Massage helps reduce anxiety, which contributes to high blood pressure. This is probably a part of the reason that it helps to regulate blood pressure. However, there is also another factor that contributes to this function. The vagus nerve actually helps regulate a person’s blood pressure, and massage helps to stimulate this nerve

into action. The more obvious benefits of massage are its excellent ability to temporarily reduce and manage pain. It can be used to relieve muscle pain, pain associated with nerve damage, and even joint pain. The manipulation of the soft tissues helps increase circulation, which may aid in healing as well. Enhanced circulation also leads to better skin tone and healthier soft tissue. This enhanced circulation and manual pressure also helps to

deliver oxygen and vital nutrients to the cells. Massage is even believed to help enhance the elimination of toxic substances which are transported out of the body by the lymphatic system. This lymphatic drainage, while beneficial, needs to be helped along by you. Hence, it is always recommended that one drink plenty of purified water after a massage, to push the toxins through the elimination process quicker. Overall, massage is a great way to reduce stress, unwind, and enjoy some “you time. It’s important to remind yourself of the other benefits that massage offers if you start to feel a little guilty about it. Massage can be an excellent complement to an otherwise healthy lifestyle and diet. 6 Months For The Arms, 3 Years For The Legs

W

Martial Arts

By Trevor Caruso

hat is progress? In the art of Wujifa, we have a saying, “6 months for the arms, 3 years for the legs. In one’s training, be it casual or diligent, the body takes time to progress. Traditionally, the aspiring Internal Martial Artist would train for at least a full 7 hours per day. During my visits to China I studied with the monks in the temple, or with Master Yao Chengguang. There we would train a vigorous 12-14 hours a day, 7 days per week, only resting to eat. In our culture, here in the west, I find this to be a more difficult task because our facilities do not accommodate a system for this type of training unless we are able to live a work-free life. So how are we in the west to train if we are on the internal path, given that we are limited with our time? One way is to incorporate. After a practitioner discovers some of the basics, we can easily begin to incorporate our practice in everything we do. Remember, Wujifa is a pathway of noticing connection. There are many pathways, but one summit. In noticing our bodies and the way we connect to ourselves and the world around us,

we inadvertently are making connections, both physically and mentally. The body changes physically, through time, as we step onto the path of discovery. Therefore, simple tasks, such as opening doors or drinking a cup of

tea can become a deep and liberating experience as we discover holding patterns and isolated strength within ourselves. Another important aspect of training is receiving regular and proper hands-on adjustments to facilitate these connections and encourage discovery of connection in the practitioner from a competent instructor. There are few ‘tricks’ that can simply be shown to the aspiring practitioner which develop connection. Connection is developed through a long path of discovery; a

noticing which is often subtle in nature. What follows is development of tensile connective tissue structures as the body uses a more holistic approach to movement. When we talk of progress, we must talk of the time it takes for the body to develop the various connective tissue structures which facilitate whole body movement. There is a re-organization of the tissue matrix itself. This is a complex process. Anecdotal evidence implies that the muscle/tendon changing process, as talked about in the martial arts, can take months or even years to develop. In the case of an injury, the remodeling phase of ligaments and tendons often takes months for connective tissue to repair. This speaks to the slow processes that underlie progress. So we are talking of progress here as a very physical process. As one starts on the journey of discovering connection, we trade brute strength, bracing, choreography, or isolated strength for whole body movement. As the dantien (the area of the lower abdomen) moves, so does the rest of the body. This type of movement is not simply choreographed, but instead, a byproduct of connection. It is the result of years of diligent practice.

THUMBNAIL MOVIE REVIEWS

by Karin Leonard & Daniel Robin ach month, we select our favorite or otherwise important films to be featured on this page. We rate them, subjectively, on a scale from 1 (worthless) to 5 (awesome) in terms of their entertainment and message. We leave the plot details and storytelling to the filmmakers and instead attempt to characterize, highlight strengths and flaws, and hint at purpose. Reach us at movies@innerevolution.com. Enjoy!

With the voices of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, Jamie Chung Entertainment: 4.5 Message: 4 ildly creative and innovative, with amazing animation and meaningful messages splattered and embedded throughout, this Disney California/ Japan amalgam in the streets of “San Fransokyo” is sure to delight the whole family. Inspiring kids towards careers in science and technology, and making “nerddom” cool, pointing to ethical choices, makes this both educational and entertaining. Baymax, an oddly huggable nurse-robot, is uncompromisingly dedicated to healing and nurturing. Solving conflicts without such extreme violence – while still keeping kids engaged – could be the next step in superhero evolution (1 hr 42 min).

Big Eyes

With Amy Adams, Krysten Ritter, Christoph Waltz Entertainment: 3.5 Message: 2.5 er stellar performance as real-life artist Margaret Keane earned Amy Adams award recognition, a well-deserved honor. Christoph Waltz as her “charming,” con artist husband, who steals the “soul of an artist” by taking away her ownership rights and her dignity. Amplified by the submissive housewife atmosphere of the 50s and early 60s, when female artists hardly had a voice, it’s tough to witness, especially if you create art yourself. A cautionary tale, told up close and personal, with tremendous power. In preparing for her role, Amy Adams spent time with Margaret Keane herself, who, at age 88, still paints daily (1 hr 48 min).

Myles, phenomenal blues guitarist, full of humor, very entertaining. Fri. Jan. 30th, The Joint Chiefs, local favorites playing funk, soul and R&B. Don Quixote’s: Thu. Jan. 29th, Adrian Legg, voted “Guitarist of the Decade” by Guitarist magazine, “Guitar Player’s Reader’s Poll Winner for Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist of the Year” four times, also possesses a very clever wit and a knack for a good story. Sun. Feb. 8th, 2pm, Lacy J. Dalton & The Dalton Gang, referred to as “Country’s Bonnie Raitt”, she brings each and every tune to life. Also Santa Cruzbased singer-songwriter Bonny Getz inspires and delights by weaving myth, metaphor and magic into her songs. This is a benefit for the “Pregnant Mare Rescue Foundation”; please support this worthy cause, silent auction and raffle tickets too. Concerts in Retro: Here are my reviews of some

recent shows. Remember this is only my opinion. At The Catalyst: James Durbin succeeded in keeping me on my feet with my fist in the air pumping! I miss true rock n’ roll concerts but I got to see one this night. An avid rock fan himself; he infuses youth into his songs and performance, clearly having fun himself and projecting the vibe into the audience. He is the new generation of rock n’ roll and we need more! His instrument, his voice is strong and unwavering. He performed a few covers such as Guns N’ Roses “Nighttrain” along with songs off his two albums, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster and Celebrate. We can depend on James Durbin and his desire to bring rock ‘n’ roll roaring back to the forefront where it belongs. Once you see James Durbin live you know he is destined to be a rock and roll mega superstar! Opening up was Talky Tina, from San Jose, alternative/power pop/punk trio that all sing. They have a lot going on and two CD’s to prove it. With themes of surf punk and British punk they are a fun band and I’m hoping to see more of them. Are you a local band that would like your CD reviewed in this publication? Send your CD to Music Connection, c/o Janet Leonard, PO Box 3916, Santa Cruz, CA 95063. Call (831) 325-4605 or email janetfaplanet@ gmail.com to tell me about gigs for live reviews. Put “Music Connection” and your band’s name in the subject line.

executed and visually stunning, intelligent and emotionally rich, this is both an intellectual exploration and a journey of the heart. Director/writer/producer Chris Nolan’s work (Memento, Inception) tends to be more low key and thoughtful while being no less entertaining or imaginative. Be prepared to be stunned, challenged with great ideas and touched deeply (2 hrs 49 min).

Knightley, Allen Leech, Rory Kinnear Entertainment: 4 Message: 4 Golden Globe nomination for best picture ased on real life events and the troubled life of math genius Alan Turing, inventor of the modern day computer, and breaker of wartime “unbreakable” Nazi codes, with Keira Knightly as his female counterpart, herself also born too soon to have her talents recognized. Cumberbatch shines in his brilliant, Golden Globenominated portrayal of a complex, radically innovative and secretly gay man – at a time when homosexuality was illegal. The story is at once gripping and painfully poignant … a must-see (1 hr 54 min).

Into the Woods

With Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp Entertainment: 4.5 Message: 3 Golden Globe nomination for best musical o much to like in this fabulous musical tapestry of the well loved Brothers Grimm fairytales, from Meryl Streep’s sensational witch to Johnny Depp’s delicious wolf. Watch for the hilarious duet of princes in “agony”, and many delectable surprises. Although this is a Disney production based on Sondheim’s popular musical, there is rich darkness to the stories and characters, capturing the deep, soulful and somewhat disturbing archetypes of the tales themselves. Stories of caution, love and coming of age, as they were meant to be (2 hrs 4 min).

S

Selma

With David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Tom Wilkinson, Oprah Winfrey Entertainment: 4 Message: 5 Note: Graphic Violence his powerful depiction of the famous, historic march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965, demanding voting rights, took a long time in the making. David Oyelowo’s stirring and inspiring portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King lets the legendary preacher and non-violent, visionary leader come to life again, capturing the heart and soul of the civil rights movement. Oprah adds her influence as producer and power as activist Ann Lee Cooper. Wonderful direction (Ava DuVernay) and Oyelowo’s Golden Globe-nominated performance, among many others, and the intense build-up to the march provide an impactful snapshot of MLK’s life purpose and effectiveness … the revolution was televised (where the “biggest weapon was to stay peaceful”), and some 50 years later, we are still working on true equality (2 hrs 20 min).

B

The Theory of Everything

With Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Maxine Peake, Charlie Cox, Emily Watson Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 Golden Globe nomination for best picture ased on cosmologist Stephen Hawking’s extraordinary life of scientific brilliance and courage, and Jane Hawking’s 2007 memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen. Let us count the ways in which this masterpiece biopic is amazing: (1) Fantastic performances by both lead actors, especially Golden Globe-winning Eddie Redmayne – it seems as if you are watching Hawking himself. (2) Showing the human and humorous side of the great scientist, his great life and love story, and (3) the incredible resilience of this couple to deal with a harsh fate, adding deep dimensions to the public persona of a contemporary genius (2 hrs 3 min).

B

Wild

With Reese Witherspoon, Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman, W. Earl Brown, Gaby Hoffmann Entertainment: 3.5 Message: 4 ritty and powerful, based on a true story, we follow the journey of Cheryl Strayed to find herself, meaning and redemption after the death of her mother (Laura Dern). Reese Witherspoon meets the challenge of a different kind of role with gusto and conviction, receiving Best Actress award nominations. The personal odyssey of a displaced person meets with the poor judgment of hiking the length of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone, with no backpacking experience. Real life Cheryl appears in a brief cameo, giving Reese a lift in her van. (1 hr 55 min).

he year of the Horse thunders to a close in 2015, leaving dust in its wake! 2015 is a wild card year, so much depends on our choices. Can we hold the vision and create a bridge into a better world? The Chinese New Year takes place on February 18th on the West Coast and shifts into the Year of

the Sheep, which slows the pace, tends toward stability, prefers diplomacy, and harmony, radically different from the fast moving ride of the horse. Yet the intensity of the Horse will linger and unwind through the spring as we come into the last of 7 exact alignments of Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries. These officially began in June of 2012, but their influence started as early as May 2010. Pluto’s intent is transformation of the old and rebirth. It brings out old paradigm programming, polarized perspectives in the collective, oppression, fear, and outrage, and is now held

in tension with revolutionary, freedom loving Uranus, (March 16). Uranus encourages us to radical transformation and stimulates the highest vision, and wisdom, that our race can bear. The peoples’ voices will demand to be heard. Uranus can attune us to possibilities at every challenge, dare the status quo of one’s own life and impel one to be courageous in action. Mars enters fiery Aries on February 19th and heats up this combination, adding fuel to the fire. March is an explosive month. Polarization can be extreme, aggression, and violence can erupt. Yet the cosmic instructions are clear for an alternative way of being. With Jupiter trine Uranus in the fire signs, we are called to new beginnings, thinking outside of the box. Jupiter enlarges these desires and attitudes, makes it auspicious for new, innovative, creative, and daring endeavors. Uranus supports us to crack open the social conditioning and noise that fills our field, and experience our connection to a larger way of knowing. July and August bring in a different energy, Venus retrogrades at the end of July, time to re-evaluate our values and relationships. Jupiter moves from radiant Leo into humble, efficient, problem solving Virgo. The conflict between world leaders may shift to some real problem solving. August 3rd, brings us to the 15th year within the 20 year Jupiter Saturn cycle, now at a crucial point, meaning corporate national identity and social structures must re-orientate, bringing crisis and pressure to change the way power has been held. The role the United States plays in the world is in a time of transformation. We are witnessing a national and political battle over what the USA will become, how capitalism will continue, how we relate to the Earth, and where power will reside, as we cross into a new paradigm. Pressures to our system will force new definitions of our military, economic and worldwide allegiances. More emphasis will be on how to solve the world refugee problems, as well as conditions of our oceans and waterways. In September issues of idealism, religious, and philosophical beliefs, are once again polarizing through the government and culture. By November, facts are brought to bear on illusions and ideals, as Saturn moves through Sagittarius, and exerts pressure on bringing out the truth.
