Who Can Participate 1. All current Indiana fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, October 18. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting.

2. Cardiovascular Team Members. All current Indiana-ACC Cardiovascular Team members (RN, NP, CNS, PA, PharmD) are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session. Eligible posters may present recent data or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting.

Statement of Need Cardiovascular (CV) disease is the leading health care problem throughout the world. In the United States alone, an estimated 70 million people have been diagnosed with one or more forms of CV disease, and over 910,000 Americans die from CV disease each year. This activity will provide information for the cardiac care team to develop methods to work more efficiently while providing quality patient care. Overall Goal The overall goal of this program is to focus on achieving optimal patient outcomes and the performance of the healthcare provider by increasing learner competence in the areas of new interventional technologies, pharmacology, health care reform, lipid guidelines, imaging, risk stratification of post MI patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and medicolegal issues. Learner Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: • • • • • • • •

Discuss the efficacy of left atrial occlusion devices and appropriately refer atrial fibrillation patients for this treatment option. Determine optimal threshold for initiating treatment in patients with hypertension and establish evidence based treatment goals for patients with hypertension. Discuss the newest pharmacological agents for the cardiovascular patient. Recognize the impact of Health Care Reform legislation on the practice of cardiology. Review the literature and guidelines on the use of statin therapy. Discuss the appropriate selection and use of cardiac CT and MRI imaging in patients with cardiac disease. Compare and contrast strategies for risk stratification and management of patients post MI at risk for sudden death. Evaluate medicolegal risk reduction in the management of cardiac patients.

Physicians should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses American College of Cardiology Foundation is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The ACCF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.25 continuing education hours. Requirement for successful completion is attendance at the program in its entirety and completing the evaluation tool. While offering CME and CNE credits noted above, this program is not intended to provide extensive training or certification in the field.
