As technology advances, SoC (System on Chip) displays are evolving significantly. Today you'll find signage implementation capable on SoC displays delivering the same smooth playback as traditional mediaplayer systems.

Recently, NDS has developed PADS4 to support Philips Professional Displays, broadening our support options further and giving end-clients the support they need for mixed displays so that each developer can use screens to their technical strengths.

A Unique Alliance with Samsung In 2015, SoC-pioneer Samsung teamed up with software pioneer NDS to develop and enable an advanced range of digital signage features. The goal was to improve the overall performance between software and hardware, for a smoother digital signage experience.

There are also companies like ProDXV and IADEA focusing on small screen displays (ideal for meeting rooms, digital price tags, and adding 2nd screens to a cash register). Adding these into the mix allows anyone to create a seamless solution managed by one software platform.

Close collaboration with ProDVX and IADEA From Samsung and LG, to Philips, all the big players in electronics are producing SoC screens (primarily for large formats)â&#x20AC;Ś and PADS4 supports them all. System on Chip offers a cost-effective solution for quickly installing digital signage without investing in a large-scale media player.

As a result, in 2017, PADS4 became the first digital signage software in the world to receive an official certification for the Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP). PADS4 is native to various Tizen displays, firmware, and older SSSP screens. In addition, this unique alliance between NDS and Samsung brought Samsung to approve and certify PADS4 as the data driven signage software for advanced requirements. Native to LG, Philips and Panasonic PADS4 is also the LG WebOS software partner for more complex projects. NDS has been there from the start, developing seamless support for WebOS from the very first iteration of the software. Today, WebOS is on version 3.2 and soon version 4, and PADS4 still offers native support.

The Future of Indoor Mapping and Wayfinding Technology Hongwei Liu, Mappedin Founder & CEO discusses the challenges facing indoor mapping and navigation, and how technology is enabling businesses to overcome them.

Digital maps and GPS are widely used around the world, even in the most remote of places – but it is still largely unavailable indoors. It's inevitable however, that spaces such as malls, airports, hospitals, stadiums, etc. will offer the same level of sophistication with mapping and navigation as the outdoors. There are new problems indoors, and our customers have lead the way in solving them. Indoor mapping challenges the industry because there is no way to create a mass dataset of private, constantly changing spaces. Without satellites, which power outdoor maps and positioning, indoor solutions must use new signal sources for positioning and piece together fragmented map data from property operators, often as things are moving around in real time.

It’s critical that the digital infrastructure is laid properly before building consumer applications on top, such as wayfinding and AR. The industry has seen many consumer experience pilots that couldn’t deliver on their promises – because the positioning didn’t work and it became impractical to maintain a real-time map using existing methods. Streamlining the Digitization of Indoor Maps Earlier wayfinding providers would invest lots of ongoing resources into creating and maintaining constant changes to indoor spaces, which often literally involves sending pictures of scribbles on maps back and forth. Property owners and operators are the only ones who know about day-to-day changes and therefore must be the source of

truth. The problem is they don’t often write their knowledge down. Mappedin has built enterprise-grade tools for teams to collaboratively edit and maintain their pieces of the whole dataset – a “word processor” for what used to be paperwork. Using Mappedin’s software, property owners can capture both large-scale, complicated changes (new rooms, new layout, new stores, etc.) and smaller, high impact changes happening on an hourly, daily, or weekly basis (pop-up stands, elevators out of order, blocked stairwells, cleaning, etc.) to create dynamic and highly accurate maps. This allows owners and operators to make quick updates to their maps, with minimal training which can then be delivered to digital screens either through Mappedin’s wayfinding platform or an integration with other systems such as PADS4. Creating new Solutions for modular conference rooms In 2017, PADS4 launched Viewer Variables, a new feature enabling modular presentations with interchangeable data using variables. With the new feature, you can develop a single presentation for multiple areas and spaces, only swapping out specific information based on variables like room number (#meetingroomnumber), guest, meeting room, address, opening hours, etc. This allows you to centrally manage one presentation with numerous variables and cut cost and time-

investment immeasurably. While new, Viewer Variables is already essential to PADS4-based projects, enabling business owners to stretch the capabilities of digital signage further than ever before. At Van der Valk Utrecht, that resulted in a modular system using no special code and no custom solutions - just out of the box PADS4 software. Peter den Burger, Marketing Communications Manager for PADS4, discussed the project with Coen Poelmans, General Manager of the hotel. Van der Valk is centrally located in a business area and many of your clientele are from out of town and country, how did that affect your planning for the hotel? "Bringing people together is the primary function of our hotel. For example, we offer modern conference rooms in combination with luxury hotel

rooms. This naturally necessitates a strong communication system, because information is a crucial element of our business concept." You chose to use EasyInfo InfoScreens in combination with PADS4. Can you tell us why? "We chose to work with InfoScreens, a company which already provides similar services in Van der Valk hotels Vianen and Houten. We've also had an excellent experience with PADS4 in our reservation system and

Using variables, our staff can assign a single presentation to any room or configuration in the system. We also assign rooms and update background images and displays using PADS4 Agent. There are differences between the system in Utrecht and the ones at Vianen and Houten. Your modular conference rooms were quite the challenge to find a digital signage for, correct? "That's right, Hotel Utrecht features 22 conference rooms, 5 of which
