SUSANDENNIS WILLIE WILSON PHOTOGRAPHY

ALL THE LIT TLE DETAILS: ENGAGEMENT: 11 Months BUDGET: $17,000 GUEST COUNT: 100 PROPOSAL: To celebrate Dennis’ birthday, we went to his hometown of Los Angeles for the weekend. I was told that he would be taking me on a tour of LA with his uncle who drives for celebrities in the city. Our first stop was the iconic Hollywood sign at the Griffith Observatory. After taking in the view, I turned around to find Dennis on one knee ready to propose. CHOOSING A VENUE: My mother suggested Berea College because of its deep meaning to my family. Our guests were so impressed with the southern charm and hospitality Kentucky offered. They loved the rich history and beautiful architecture of Berea College. It was the best decision we could have made for our big day. ELEMENTS: The photographer and videographer were very important to me. My guest experience was also a priority. I knew everything they would see would reflect the whole wedding. I made sure to provide hotel guest bags with information about Lexington, Berea and Berea College so they could explore the region while visiting. For Dennis, the church was important because of our faith. VISION: Our vision/theme was elegance, grace and place. I envisioned my day to have glamour, sparkle, and elegance. My mermaid-style dress sparked as I walked and it made me feel like a princess. Lastly, to incorporate the Kentucky background into the theme, our mothers both wore fascinators. SPARKLER EXIT: We chose the sparkler exit due to our planner’s recommendation. It looks great in pictures and was easy to plan. It was a great send-off! We loved it and it made our pictures look great! ADVICE: Hire a wedding planner!

ALL THE LIT TLE DETAILS: ENGAGEMENT: 7.5 Months BUDGET: $15,000 GUEST COUNT: 150 LOVE STORY: We dated in fifth grade; he was my first boyfriend and took me to my first school dance. Fast-forward and we began dating during my senior year of college. After four years of dating, he proposed. PROPOSAL: Jason bought me a sapphire ring after our second year of dating, that I wore daily. One day, after leaving it at home, I texted him afraid I had lost it. I frantically searched the house with his ‘help’. What Jason found was not my sapphire ring, but an engagement ring. VENUE: We fell in love with the beauty and history of Warrenwood Manor; the house, the barn and fields. The idea of our love story becoming a part of that history was special to us. ADVICE: Let the wedding professionals do what they are good at. Whether it’s creativity or helping you stick to a budget, the people you choose are awesome at what they do. A TROPIC PROPOSAL

PINKLOULOU DESIGN STUDIO

T

im and I have been dating since January 2016, but I have been in love with him since I was 17. I had a big crush on him when I was 17 and he had that same big 'ol crush on me too, it just took us 15 years to reconnect in a Kroger parking lot. True story friends. I swear to you, I knew on our first date that I was going to marry him. What I did not know, was that nine short months later, he would propose in absolute paradise! Last October, we were on a weeklong trip in St. John for my cousin’s destination wedding. People always ask me if I knew he was going to propose and my answer is, "no way!!" It was my cousin's wedding week, so I just didn't even think about it. But he sure did, and it was the most amazing moment. I remember every little detail of that day. We took a boat from St. John to Virgin Gorda to see the Baths. We couldn’t take any of our belongings because we had to swim from the boat to shore and there was no dock. Once we made it to shore I remember thinking “well great, I have no phone and this is beautiful!" Tim wanted to be in the front of the line to tour the baths. I just thought he was being adventurous. He also wanted me ahead of him, I assumed so he could catch me when

I undoubtedly fell on the rocks. About 5 minutes into the windy slippery rocks, I found myself hitting a dead end and no Tim to be seen, he had snuck away and the rest of the crowd filled in behind me. I turned around and started looking for Tim and our travel guide told me he was actually looking for me “over that way” motioning me to where Tim was. It was at that moment I thought, “Ohhhh my gosh, what is happening?” I turned a corner and saw Tim standing in the middle of the most incredible rock, water formation I had ever seen. He was by himself and got down on one knee. I was shaking so much I got down on my knees with him and just hugged and kissed him and cried. I think he said “Will you marry me?” and then after a few minutes he also said "so do you want to see the ring?!" HA! My first thought was DO NOT DROP THAT IN THIS OCEAN! I put on the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen! The rest of our friends on the tour with us began cheering and congratulating us, and my cousin's wedding photographer was also there snapping pictures! It is so special to have these memories! We celebrated at lunch afterwards, and luckily there was wi-fi so I was

able to FaceTime my family! It was the most surreal moment and one I will never forget. Best. Vacation. EVER. A big thank you to my cousin Lucy and her husband Patrick for sharing their wedding week with us! Can you believe that little sneakster had the ring in his backpack the whole time?! No clue over here. If you are wondering how he got the ring from the boat to the baths in Virgin Gorda, we all have our tour guide to thank for that one! Shew, glad that all worked out!! This past year has been incredible. The best year of my life so far, hands down. I feel like the absolute luckiest girl in the world to have found my best friend, and my husband.

WHEN CONSIDER ING WHO TO BUY A GIF T OF THANKS FOR, THINK BACK TO WHO HAS HELPED ALONG THE WAY.

GIFT GIVING Amanda Sutton

THE CRAZY BUNNY LADY

W

hen it comes to wedding planning you’ve likely searched, pinned and scrolled through pages upon pages of ideas from venue decorations to cake toppers. Then it hits you. The pin that reminds you, you haven’t started planning what to get your bridal party! Gift giving can be stressful but with a little thought you’ll be on the right path to the perfect gifts. The big things to consider when planning your wedding party gift giving are: who to shop for, your budget and what would my bridal party love for years to come?

Keith & Melissa Photography

who to shop for:

budgeting:

gifts worth giving:

When considering who to buy a gift of thanks for, think back to who has helped along the way. Your bridal party is likely the first to come to mind. They are a tried and true group of friends that have answered all of your 1am texts, travelled near and far to be by your side, and hosted the best "Nash-elorette" Weekend Nashville has seen. You will want to show them thanks for all the effort they have put into making your last months as a single lady so special.

Planning a wedding adds up quick and now you’re looking into buying five or more individual gifts for each side of the wedding party. To determine your wedding party gift budget, consider the financial obligation that have been required of them. Was the bridal party requested to purchase couture bridesmaids gowns along with matching designer shoes? If so, you may want to consider a more financially generous gift.

A great gift option would be a super comfy bridal party tank top, t-shirt, or robe with a personalized stemless champagne flute. Not to mention a major plus will be the gorgeous pictures your photographer will snap.

Other individuals to consider are relatives that have volunteered tirelessly to get your centerpieces just exactly how you envisioned them. Of course your loving parents and in-laws to be! Finally, remember to consider any flower girls, ring bearers, ushers or program attendants you have participating in your ceremony.

If your budget is tight there is no need to feel guilty that you cannot afford to outfit each loved one with an elaborate basket full of goodies. Hone in on something special that each member will value and always remember that a hand written, genuine thank you letter speaks volumes to convey your appreciation.

Reflect on the style and taste of each of your bridesmaids. Your wine-loving Maid of Honor will totally appreciate a personalized wine glass paired with her favorite bottle of wine. Your jet setter bridesmaid will adore a monogrammed weekender tote. Don’t forget to spoil your momma and mother-in-law. A calming massage or pedicure would be the perfect thank you. Your father and father-in-law consider sports paraphernalia of their favorite team! Last but not least; your sweet flower girl and ring bearer. Look into what cool new toy or project will occupy them in the hours leading up to the wedding.

Relax and prepare the gifts over the weeks leading up to the wedding. Traditionally gifts are given out the night before the wedding, at the rehearsal dinner. The couple may deliver a toast, express their thanks and conclude by dispersing the gifts. Don't forget to enjoy every moment of this process. Happy Gift Giving!

ALL THE LIT TLE DETAILS: ENGAGEMENT: 1.5 years Guest Count: 200 PROPOSAL: I came home one evening and when I opened up the door I found our entire living room set had been moved out of the living room. Kreigh had a path of candles from the door to where he stood in dress shoes, dark washed jeans and a suit jacket. When he asked me to marry him, there were tears and smiles and a bottle of our favorite wine. After the moment set in, he took me to Dudley’s on Short for a celebration dinner. FAVORITE ELEMENTS: It was very important that we were married in a church since we both grew up in church. Plus, my grandfather passed away at the start of our relationship and his grandmother passed away too. To keep them involved we had each of their wedding bands tied to the Bible that our ring bearer carried down the aisle instead of our own. ALL THE LIT TLE DETAILS: ENGAGEMENT: 17 Months HASHTAG: #wedbrideandgroomforredwhiteandboom NAME FOR THE DAY: Amarclay’s Depedence Day FIRST DATE: We had known each other for serval years before we ran into each other at a bar. While there, a commercial came on for a movie. Clay asked if I wanted to go and I told him we’d leave it up to the Fandango gods. If we were able to get tickets then we’d go. We got tickets! We ran my car home and Clay met my mom. We told Mom we were going to the movie and she asked to join! By some miracle, Clay asked me on another date, this time without my mom! PROPOSAL: After lunch with his grandparents in Texas, we took a trip down memory lane via some old photos of Clay's childhood. Within ten minutes, Clay got down on one knee and proceeded to ask me for my hand in marriage! FAVORITE ELEMENTS: We wanted our marriage to be a “declaration of dependence” and what we wanted as the foundation for our marriage. We are both confident in our strength individually, but knew that we were both stronger together. Visit BridalBlissMagazine.com for more blissful details! PG. 51 BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE

have a good foundation

change your color

re-purpose the space

irst comes love, then comes marriage, then comes moving into a new house together! It’s an exciting adventure to outfit your new space with your spouse. It’s also a great opportunity to create a place that reflects you both. That can be easier said than done, so where do you start? These rules of thumb will keep your house update running smoothly. The simplest way to freshen a room is to coat the walls with a fresh color. Gray is still the top neutral. Steer clear of grays with blue undertones, as it will make the space feel cool and sterile. My personal favorite shade is a warm griege (blend of gray and beige) called Amazing Gray by Sherwin Williams. The color works well with any other colors you use in the room and doesn’t read as too dark on the walls.

add extra touches

Never underestimate the value of throw pillows, lamps, greenery, art and accessories in a room. These are the components we spend the least time thinking about but they all work together as layers to give your space the decorated look while still being functional. If you want to embrace a trend, this is the place to do it. These items are more economical to replace when the trend fades than would be a larger piece of furniture.

dress your windows

THIS WILL BE HARD TO HEAR, BUT…. YOU AND YOUR NEW SPOUSE MAY NOT HAVE THE SAME TASTE IN DECOR.

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 54

Layering a light-controlling treatment (like blinds) with a decorative fabric treatment (like curtains) gives the windows a finished look that ties into the room’s decor. The current trend is for the draperies to remain stationary flanking the window as opposed to fully opening and closing over the window. Never buy unlined panels for your windows. The sunlight will shine right through them and distort the color and pattern.

Place an area rug among a furniture grouping to define the seating area. Rugs add warmth to a space and look nice layered on any flooring type, even wall to wall carpeting. Make sure you buy the right size area rug. Ideally, you want all four feet of the furniture pieces to sit atop the rug. If that isn’t possible, it is acceptable to let the back two feet sit off of the rug. If you find yourself never using a space, give it a new purpose. The builder’s floor plan may name the room one thing but it’s your house, so use it the way you want! A formal dining room can become a reading room or a home office just by swapping some furniture.

spruce up your deck or patio

These days we spend as much time entertaining outside as we do inside. You can affordably soften the space by adding an outdoor rug and furniture cushions. In the instance that you have a covered deck, consider adding outdoor curtain panels to the posts. They serve a dual purpose- aesthetics, as well as privacy and light control. Don’t forget to add some ambient lighting with lanterns or string lights.

compromise

This will be hard to hear, but…. you and your new spouse may not have the same taste in decor and furnishings. If you can’t agree on how to complete a room, each of you should make a list of your top priorities. Compare notes and then figure out how to blend your wishes. An alternative would be for each of you to choose a room in the house and take charge of decorating that room. Either route you go, the end result will be a home you’ll love because you created it together. here comes the point in a wedding where the vows have been said, the dinner has been served, and the cake has been cut. It’s a time where guests gather to celebrate the newlyweds, and it’s certainly not a detail to settle for less on. A wedding reception to its full potential will have everyone on the dance floor until the very last minute. Encore of Lexington can do just that by providing central Kentucky weddings with high-energy performances that are always sure to keep guests and audiences engaged, and of course, asking for an encore. Between the sounds of everyone’s favorite Motown classics, today’s top hits, or old school funk, the experience of a live band can bring a whole new dynamic to any event. Encore of Lexington provides an interactive experience that guests will always remember. Encore’s goal to create the perfect ambiance for weddings and events doesn't stop there. On top of the live band experience, they offer additional services that can take a special day to

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 60

the next level. To name a few, Encore can provide everything from a bag piper, a Michael Jackson Impersonator, or even a magician to complete any occasion. Among the band members, there is 100 years of experience in the music industry. The band explains that they “specialize in giving you something you can feel.” Former clients are quick to say that Encore made their wedding the “best experience imaginable” and the guests are vocal about Encore being their “favorite part of the night,” when it comes to the band’s testimonials. Making a wedding a day to remember shouldn't just stop after the ceremony. Providing guests with entertainment to celebrate the new journey that their loved ones are starting is something that should be taken into consideration. Encore of Lexington can take control of the reception and lead the guests straight to the dance floor!

MIMOGA EVENTS

T

he morning of a wedding day is unlike any other morning - in the very best way possible! A joyful expectation of the life-changing covenant that is about to be made hangs in the air. The day ahead promises perfection. Everything about the careful preparation begins to feel ceremonious and beautiful. Those who mean the very most have come from near and far to shower with love, support, and celebration. There are few moments like these in life that should come with a pause button. How could something so anticipated be fully absorbed? That is the inspiration behind the first of its kind wedding day yoga service Mimoga Events. The days, weeks, and months leading up to a wedding can be stressful. Making so many decisions about such a large-scale event can be mentally draining. Relaxation for the bride and her bridal party on the

morning of the wedding day is of the utmost importance because it leads to reduced stress levels and it helps to prevent foggy memories. Mimoga will leave the bride and her bridal party feeling energized, relaxed, and centered. Stretching is intricately connected to happiness. The hormones released from focused movement, pranayama breathing, and basic yoga poses help to deeply relax the bride. Cortisol (commonly known as the stress hormone) and adrenaline levels are both dramatically decreased through yoga, focused breathing, gentle stretching and calming essential oils. Before hair and makeup, before brunch and before the non-stop wedding agenda begins, the instructor will meet the bridal party at the hotel, bridal suite, or private residence. Yoga mats are provided and may be used if space permits. Every wedding is so unique and personal; Mimoga is customized to fit the specific requests

of each bride. Once the Mimoga session begins; breath is found, hearts are settled, tensions are released, and figurative ‘pause buttons’ are pressed. The instructor demonstrates and guides participants through each movement clearly and provides options based on each individuals flexibility and fitness level. Safety and relaxation are of the utmost importance. For a few moments, the bride has the opportunity to find calmness in an experience with her bridal party that is truly something they will each remember forever. The gentle stretching, breathing exercises, and basic yoga poses can be a pathway to connecting mind, body and soul. This allows the bride to be energized, focused, and able to take in all of the beautiful moments happening all around her.

7 TIPS FOR TABLETOPS

EVENTS WITH DESIGN

D

esigning your reception space can often get overwhelming with the wide selection of rental items available today. The classic look of round tables with white table cloths will never go out of style, however today’s couples have so many more options to showcase their style and bring that personal touch to the wedding! Once you have chosen a venue, you will know what items are included and what items you need to bring in. Rental and design companies have many items to choose from and your own pieces are a great way to add that personal touch.

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 70

1

PICK A THEME OR STYLE

The first step is to decide on a theme or style. Do you like clean lines and a more modern classic look? A Kentucky farm housevintage style? Something in the middle? Sometimes the venue that you book will direct you toward a style. Looking at photos of other receptions is a great way to find what you like. Many online photo sources are available and of course Bridal Bliss Magazine is a great way to start. Just keep in mind that these photos should only be inspiration for your design because not everything you see will fit your venue space or your budget!

CONSIDER YOUR SPACE

2

It is important to consider the space you have to work with when planning for all of your table needs. If your event is held in a tent your table needs can vary greatly from an indoor setting where there may be other furniture to use. You venue or tent rental consultant should be able to supply you with diagrams of how other events have been set up and make suggestions on what has worked well in the space before. A diagram will help you see how all of the parts of your event will fit together. Will you have room for all of your seating tables, along with buffet space, bars as well as perfect placement of your cake. Don’t forget some of your vendors will need tables as well. Be sure to read your contract for each

vendor. Ask them specifically if they bring their own or need tables provided and what size tables they need. Catering staff will need prep space as well as a clean-up area. Your DJ may also need a table.

3

GUEST TABLES

Your guest tables will take up the majority of your space. There are many factors that may play into the number of guest tables you need. Your estimated guest count is the first place you start, but what you decide for food service will also determine your seating. Serving a plated dinner requires a seat for each guest. A more casual stationstyle buffet allows for a few seating tables with stand up cocktail tables as well. When planning all the seating for your guests, don’t forget to add seating for yourself! Do you want a small seating table for just the sweethearts or a large head table for the entire bridal party? Many couples struggle with where to seat the significant others of their bridal party and choose reserved tables instead of a head table.

TABLE CLOTHS

4

Once you have an idea of the tables you need and their sizes, it is time to consider table cloths. The table cloth is the base layer of your design. White or other neutral colors allow for your table top items to pop. However, bold colors can really make a statement.

Table cloths can be a large portion of your budget. Remember that there is a lot of labor involved with getting cloths cleaned and pressed. The larger the cloth, the higher the cost. You may wish to consider lap length cloths instead of full length. The industry standard polyester cloths will also be more affordable than other fabrics. If your heart is set on a luxury cloth, consider placing that cloth on the sweetheart table or the cake table only. If you find that table cloth costs are more than you would like to budget, you can always consider farmhouse tables. Farmhouse tables don’t need a cloth at all, but you may decide to add a runner or small cloth under the centerpiece.

5

PLACE SET TINGS

Once you and your caterer have chosen the style of your menu, you can plan for the place settings for your tables. At a minimum you will need a plate, fork and glass for each guest. There are very nice disposable table settings available too. For a more formal setting you will want to go with real china and flatware. The size of your place settings will also affect the total number of tables you need to place in your space. The more formal the place setting the larger space it will take up for each guest at the table. You may only be able to fit 6 to 8 people per table if you use a decorative charge plate, dinner plate, multiple pieces of flatware, water glass and wine glasses for each place setting. But you can fit 8 to10 guests with a smaller place setting. You can keep the table settings a little smaller by offering glassware at the bar rather than pre-setting at each table seat. This is especially

important if you expect only a portion of your guests to partake in alcoholic beverages. Often times specialty glassware is used at the bar for signature drink like copper mugs for Moscow mules. Often tables are only preset with a napkin and flatware, placing the plates at the buffet and glassware at the bar. The napkins are a great way to add color to your table settings. An artistic fold can also add style to your tabletop.

6

CENTERPIECE

The centerpiece on your tables are another area where your personal style and theme can be shown. Your floral designer can direct you with flower arrangement styles that will fit your budget, but don’t feel that you are limited to just flowers, almost anything can be used as the focal point of your tables. Don’t forget to add in candles for mood lighting too!

7

Wes Brown Photography

MOCK SET UP

With so many choices to choose from, a couple can often feel overwhelmed. A solution is to schedule a mock up of your table settings. Getting your vendors together with samples of the items you are considering will help narrow your choices down. This will also give you a chance to see what your tables will look like. Seeing things in real life can help make decisions. Be aware, some vendors do charge for this opportunity.

FOR THE COUPLE WHO WANTS AN ALL-INCLUSIVE, WELL-LOVED SPACE THAT THEY CAN ENJOY FOR THEIR WEDDING WEEKEND, A BED AND BREAKFAST IS THE PERFECT SOLUTION.

For a couple of days, you and your guests spend time focusing on the reason for the gathering, rather than being distracted by strangers who are visiting from other places for other reasons, or by other events being hosted in the same location. When you choose a bed and breakfast as your venue, your privacy is easily secured and your event is shared only with those you have invited.

A WEDDING WEEKEND

iving in the Information Age leads many couples to follow a path to less traditional ceremony and reception sites. A growing trend in the wedding industry has been the pursuit of more intimate and personal venues. This allows couples to celebrate with the most important people in their lives, under settings that often enhance the momentous and significant purpose of their special day. The bed and breakfast industry has been watching this trend and have broadened their business plans to now include wedding ceremonies and receptions. Their efforts are working as couples have been noticing. What is it about a bed and breakfast that seems appealing to couples looking for intimate and meaningful wedding venues? One obvious answer is a place to stay. A bed and breakfast offers rooms for the couple, traveling family members, or a mother-daughter pre-wedding retreat. Ashford Acres Inn, located in Cynthiana, Kentucky has five room. This includes the Garden Suite that we offer

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 76

complementary to the couple on their wedding night. In addition to a place to rest your mind on the eve and night of your wedding, a bed and breakfast also provides an on-site space for the bridal party to gather and prepare before the ceremony. A bed and breakfast is often carefully decorated, offering an intimate and personal touch. Every detail has been thought of and executed. A five-port charger sits on the nightstand so you will be fully charged for all of your dayof last minute text reminders and your personal, quick, pre-wedding snapshots to share on social media. A bottle of filtered water and homemade treats sit on a table, reminding you to take a break and take care of yourself amidst all of the preparation chaos. An innkeeper is only steps away ready to bring you an extension cord, extra toiletries, or fresh towels. Most importantly, all overnight guests are treated to a homemade, often locally sourced breakfast, to start the day off in the right direction. In addition to all of the small perks you find at a bed and breakfast, you often end up having the entire property to yourself, for you and your family to enjoy before, during, and after your big day. Your local wedding becomes a destination wedding.

When it comes to the important tasks of designing the look and feel of your reception and ceremony, bed and breakfasts often offer a number of unique and interesting sites on their properties for weddings both small and large. You can rent a tent for a classy, evening affair, or string lights in trees and exchange your vows beneath the stars. You can dine with your guests inside a historic home, or set up tables in front of an old barn for a farm-wedding feel. There is usually an array of possibilities at a bed and breakfast when trying to achieve your wedding desires. This provides the perfect answer to the question of how to make your day unique and special. Because bed and breakfasts provide one-of-a-kind, serene, and well-tended properties, your wedding photographs will have beautiful backgrounds. To make your wedding all-inclusive, a bed and breakfast may also be able to host your rehearsal dinner, allowing you and your selected guests to celebrate before your big day, without the worry of traveling to and from a different location. Bridal showers, bridesmaids’ luncheons, and mother-daughter or in-law retreats can all be hosted on property in the weeks leading to your big day, filling the space with more good memories. For the couple who wants an all-inclusive, well-loved space that they and their guests can enjoy for their wedding weekend, a bed and breakfast is the perfect solution. Once your wedding day comes to a close, and you begin entering back into your daily routines as a married couple, you will always have a special place to come back to when celebrating anniversaries.

P

rinted paper goods can be one of the most fun aspects of your wedding planning! A classic menu card, thank you notes and most importantly... your invitation suite set the tone and color themes you will incorporate through the rest of your planning. With that, comes the huge job addressing all of those beauties to your closest friends and family. Here are 5 reasons why choosing a calligrapher is the way to get the job done!

1. SAVES YOU TIME With all the planning that goes into creating your “dream wedding” that is Pinterest-approved, the last thing you want to do is hand address 200 envelopes! That’s where your hand-dandy calligrapher comes in. Addressing envelopes takes time and skilled calligraphers are pros at using creativity to make your envelopes feel cohesive with the entire invitation suite. Coordinating

an invitation suite itself can feel stressful for a couple who might not know which layout, style or ink color would be the winning combo. Hiring a calligrapher will add ease to this process! 2. PROPER ETIQUETTE There are many different ways a couple can address their envelopes including address stamps or even labels. While these seem to be the easier route, they are discouraged. So many elements go into addressing an envelope with proper etiquette. Things like: names and titles,

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 82

husband before wife, professional titles, etc. A calligrapher will have the knowledge and skill to be sure every guest is addressed properly and with good manner. 3. YOUR GUESTS ARE WORTH IT Have you ever received an envelope in the mail that was just a little more fancy or personalized?

Grabbing a handful of mail in your mailbox and seeing that striking cobalt blue envelope with gold metallic ink lettering is enough to get anyone excited. Your guests are people who hold a special place in your lives, why not make them feel special when inviting them to your wedding? By having hand lettered and personalized envelopes, it will make your guests truly feel like they are worth the time spent on creating them.

4. THEY’VE GOT THE GOODS Say you decide you want to attempt hand lettering all your envelopes, or maybe mom wants to do it as one of her “contribution” to the big day. There are obstacles you can encounter from the moment you try to begin. For example, you may not have the best calligraphy pen, or the best metallic ink to

really capture the look you’re wanting. This in itself can get aggravating and become a real bummer in the process. In turn, you may end up having to buy extra supplies for mistakes. No Bueno. A calligrapher will have a plethora of lettering supplies, ink colors, pens, etc. to make sure your envelopes capture the style you’re dreaming of. They may even have options you wouldn’t have considered that may be just what you’re looking for!

5. ELEVATE THE OVERALL LOOK When creating your wedding invitations you really work hard to have it represent your special day. The color scheme, font choices, floral accents… the list goes on and on. Once you’re done and have this beautiful invitation suite, your envelopes are meant to “seal” the deal. I always say the envelopes are like icing on the cake. They are the first impression of your suite which in turn is the first impression of your big day.

Envelopes deserve to be elevated with class and beauty. Having custom calligraphied envelopes will enhance the overall look of your invitation suite and really give it that 'wow' factor every bride dreams of having! At the end of the day, hiring a calligraphy may not be at the top of your list, but I truly believe they add that special little somethin’ to your overall suite creating wonderful lasting memories.

RENEE'S BRIDAL GOWN GIVEAWAY!

he love story of a girl and her dream gown continues as Reneé’s Bridal, Kentucky in Mt. Sterling is giving away an original, one-of-a-kind wedding gown. Featured in Counting On, a popular TLC show, Reneé Miller, owner, will work side by side with the winner of our giveaway from BBM Vol. 2, Courtney Moores. Courtney's struggle with weight and self improvement is one that will inspire anyone who listens. As we read her story, her words made our eyes and hearts swell as she outlined her battle and recovery. We are honored to be able to work with Courtney and can not wait to see what beautiful masterpiece Reneé whips up! BBM: TELL US WHAT MADE YOU ENTER THE RENEÉ’S BRIDAL, KY GOWN GIVEAWAY. CM: I am a plus size bride. I don’t think size matters in finding love, but finding my dream dress in my size and budget was going to be difficult. Plus size dresses are

expensive because they are bigger and, of course, use more fabric. I had to have weight loss surgery because I reached my peak weight at 418 pounds. Doctors said I was on the verge of a heart attack at age 24. Since my surgery I have lost over 120 pounds and still would love to lose another 80 pounds before my wedding day. I have been working so hard to lose the weight so that I can look good and feel my best walking down the aisle. It’s important to be able to feel proud and confident as I start this new journey. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life and finally, for the first time since my weight loss began, I feel hopeful I could actually find my dream dress. BBM: WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO BE CHOSEN TO DESIGN YOUR WEDDING GOWN? CM: It’s like a dream come true! I was so worried about finding my dream dress. I had been to several shops and couldn’t even try on a dress because the sample sizes didn't fit me. Now I get to have a gown made especially for me and my body that is

meant to flatter my curves and every inch of my body. BBM: WHAT IS YOUR HOPE FOR THE STYLE OF GOWN? CM: My hope for the gown is to hug every inch of my curves and to flatter all the right places. It will make me feel beautiful on my special day. BBM: HOW DOES WINNING THE GOWN ENHANCE YOUR WEDDING? CM: The dress is one of the highlights of the day. The moment of the big reveal is what I look forward to. I can't wait for everyone to see the bride for the first time. I can't wait until I get to see Patrick for the first time and he gets to see me in my dress. Everything we have been through—all the wedding planning and stress, will lead up to our wedding day; the moment I’ve been looking forward to my whole life.

ADVICE: I didn’t think I would want a videographer, but in retrospect, I wish we had one, so we could reflect on the day. Our photos are out of this world and are so nice to revisit. I was so nervous during the ceremony, I hardly even remember it! It would have been nice to have a video of the day.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS

M

ost of Bridal Bliss Magazine is sharing what we have right here in Kentucky, but we know some couples want destination weddings! Adding travel plans on top of the wedding details certainly can be a big job to take on. Because there are not many realistic guides out there to help couples planning a wedding away from home, it’s easy for newlyweds-to-be to find themselves struggling with the extra baggage that comes along with traveling. However, there are wedding professionals out there who can help avoid the common pitfalls associated with planning a destination wedding. A destination-wedding planner can cut the stress of the planning process in half, while also using local vendors we know and love right here in Kentucky. You can take a couple out of Kentucky, but you can’t take the Kentucky out of a couple!

travel logistics

Most experienced destination wedding planners are also travel agents; this is ideal for helping you with the difficult task of handling your friends and family’s travel arrangements! After planning many destination weddings, I’ve learned that the most difficult part is getting everyone to the destination and back home smoothly.

picking a destination and timing

Finding a destination that is meaningful to you, but also accessible and affordable can be a challenge. Does your mom hate to fly? Does your maid of honor have small children? Taking these factors into consideration can be a make or break deal when trying to smoothly pick your destination. Not only is the location important, but when you go can be as important as where you go.

people on the ground to take care of the details on the actual day. Onsite vendors can keep your wedding day running smoothly while completing the tasks at the venue.

saving money

vetting vendors

Keeping in mind that prices and weather change with seasons is not the only way a planner can help you save money. Booking in advance will ensure that you are able to get all the rooms you need and have the best pricing available. On top of being prepared, hotel pricing can be negotiated! It’s true, you can use the size of the group to leverage price breaks and receive upgrades with extra amenities. All of these discounts are out there; you just need someone who can help you find them!

wedding planning

As with a traditional wedding, you will need to have

A DESTINATION-WEDDING PLANNER CAN CUT THE STRESS OF THE PLANNING PROCESS IN HALF!

What happens when a resort doesn't have convenient wedding packages ready for you? You begin in the same place as if you are doing a wedding at home: finding vendors. While you will need vendors in the area in which you are having the wedding, it is still possible to shop local to your home and bring resources from vendors to your destination. You can have all of your stationery made locally, photographers are willing to travel, your dress can travel with you

— almost everything you love from home can still be apart of your destination wedding! Destination weddings are so fun! You take your special day and turn it into a weeklong celebration. Just remember that having an experienced planner will make a big difference in whether or not you and your guests enjoy the process. If a traditional wedding is a marathon, a destination wedding is a triathlon. Find a good planner, and all you will have to do is sit back and enjoy the Mai Tai’s on the beach.

I wanted my friends and family from Georgia to understand why I love Kentucky so much. ADVICE: Don’t rush it, take a minute to enjoy everything from the engagement, to the parties and of course the wedding day. SPECIAL TOUCHES: The champagne glasses we used were the same ones my parents and grandparents used for their wedding. I had blue ribbons tied into the skirt of my dress that were from my mother’s wedding dress and lace from my mom and mother-in-law’s dresses added to the veil.

fter being in the bridal industry for the last 25 years, I have found that the number of people at a bridal appointment can be great or it can be challenging for a bride. A bride and her mother can have a great day together, reconnect and reminiscence about growing up dreaming about that day. A mother is not going to steer you wrong and wants to make sure you are achieving the look you want. The other type of appointment includes the whole wedding party and all your BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 104

Jessica Lynn Hatton Photography girlfriends. This can be a great and fun day! It's important to keep in mind that these are your friends for a reason. They will be opinionated, and let you know if the dress is wrong for you. Sometimes we see this turn into a bridal party experience and not the bride’s experience.

1. Bring the most important people in your life that you feel will make the bridal experience a happy one for you, but give you the opinions you want.

Keeping your consultant aware of your decisions will keep you on track. Your consultant can help you reach bridal experience goal.

3. Do your research; show your consultant what you have in mind, but trust their opinions too!

The bridal experience can be your dream experience as long as you consider the pros and cons of choosing the guests you bring with you. My advice is as follows:

2. Make sure you take the time to be yourself and try on things you want.

4. Enjoy yourself!

SIMPLY LOVE STUDIO

1) 2)

WHAT IS SIMPLY LOVE STUDIO (SLS)? It's a bridal show and bridal magazine come to life every day of the week. We’ll schedule a time that is good for you to come in and we chat about your wedding and all of the aspects involved.

HOW IS SLS FREE? The awesome Central Kentucky area wedding vendors financially support the Studio in order to make each visit for you FREE!

3)

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DUR ING OUR MEETING?

4)

HOW MANY TIMES CAN WE MEET?

5)

WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION?

6)

HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY PLANNING SESSION?

We recommend allowing about 45 minutes to an hour for your meeting. You are welcome to bring your fiancé, mother, maid of honor-who ever you would like. Bring your wedding binder if you have started one, any pictures or inspiration that might help us understand your wedding day vision. During our meeting we will help you find vendors that fit your style, budget and personality. We can work on a to do list and arrange it based on priorities. If you are farther along in the planning we can help with a wedding day time line, including what time hair and makeup should start, what time your caterer should arrive, all of those things so that your vendors will all be on the same page on your wedding day.

You can meet with Simply Love Studio as many times as you need to. There is no cost to come back in. Many Brides do make a second and third appointment later in their planning so that we can help them with an updated to do list.

Our Studio hours vary depending on the time of year, community events, etc. We can meet with you any weekday or weekend at a time that works best for your schedule.

You can email us at sarah@simplylovestudio.com or by calling 859-550-3825.

Wedding Planning with

Keely

Chaney Curd

I

t’s impossible to forget the night that former Kentucky Basketball player Derek Willis dropped to one knee in the middle of Senior Night at Rupp Arena and proposed to his girlfriend, Keely Potts, in front of 24,036 people. It was quite a surprise to Keely and the romantic emotional video quickly went viral. Keely and Derek both graduated from UK this past May before their move to Michigan where Derek is now pursuing his NBA career. Among all the excitement of their new lives, how is Keely finding the time to plan a Kentucky wedding from over 500 miles away? We have all the details! BBM: HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU IN THE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS? KP: So far, I have my dress, venue, videographer, photographer, florist, DJ, and wedding party. We have made a guest list that’s around 300 people, but that’s without kids, and I haven’t added former and current teammates of Derek’s. I’m definitely getting there, but it feels like I have so much left to do. BBM: HAS DEREK BEEN WORKING WITH YOU TO PLAN THE WEDDING? KP: Derek gives me his input on things, but he

BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE PG. 134

leaves the majority of the planning up to me. He did play a huge part in picking out what food will be served on our wedding day though! He decided on Little Caesars Pizza, and I’m okay with that. Haha! BBM: WHAT ASPECTS ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU THROUGHOUT THE PLANNING PROCESS? KP: The pictures and the wedding video are the most important to me. I absolutely love taking pictures, and I’m constantly videoing something for Instagram or Snapchat. We’ve found the perfect videographer and photographer, and we are 100% confident they’re going to bring our vision to life. Our love story is so unique, and after seeing their work we knew right away that they were the perfect choice for capturing our big day!

bridesmaids living in Lexington to do a cake testing for me since I am so far away. As for everything else, I have meetings set up for the holidays when I know I’ll be in town. BBM: HOW IMPORTANT TO YOU IS IT TO USE LOCAL KENTUCKY VENDORS TO MAKE YOUR BIG DAY A SUCCESS? KP: Staying local is so important to me because it’s our home. It’s where we fell in love, and it’s where the majority of people that we love live. Every vendor we are using so far is local, and that makes us both so happy. We are so proud to be from Kentucky, and the vendors we chose are such good representations of our home. BBM: WHAT SPECIAL KENTUCKY ELEMENTS DO YOU AND DEREK PLAN TO INCORPORATE ON THE BIG DAY?

BBM: BECAUSE OF YOUR NEW HOME IN MICHIGAN, HOW DO YOU STAY ON TOP OF PLANNING A KENTUCKY WEDDING?

KP: We are talking about having a blue carpet! We love the idea, and we are still deciding on a definite answer.

KP: It’s honestly so hard. I’m definitely someone who needs reminders here and there, so I’ve asked my mom and her best friend to help me with the planning. I’ve even asked my

Also, BOURBON! It wouldn’t be a KY wedding without bourbon! Maybe even some KY Gentleman (yes, that’s a joke).

BBM: WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT THING ABOUT PLANNING A WEDDING? KP: I would have to say that planning our wedding around Derek’s basketball schedule is the most difficult part. His schedule is so up in the air, and it involves so much traveling. It’s hard for me to decide on actual dates for things because I don’t ever know where I’m going to be or what’s going to come up. BBM: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER BRIDES WHO ARE ALSO PLANNING A WEDDING OUTSIDE OF THEIR CURRENT STATE? KP: Don’t listen to anyone’s opinions or let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t do something. It’s YOUR wedding, and you can do ANYTHING your heart is set on. It’s your day, your vision, and ultimately your say. You only get married once (let’s hope) and you don’t want to look back and regret not doing something you really wanted to do.
