LOVE IS NOT CANCElLED
Of all of the new terms and phrases we’ve heard this year, this is the one we can get behind. Volume 8 is our love letter to you, the vendors, the couples, the places and the things that make Lexington the best place in the world to get married. It was really hard for us to make the decision to push the April issue and then eventually forgo it all together, but that’s okay. It was best for everyone. But this issue....WOW...this issue was worth the wait. We’ve tried writing this letter a dozen times and it’s hard to know what to say, other than: Lexington vendors are THE best. We’ve seen them shift, pivot and work in overdrive to make things happen for their couples the past few months and never complain for a second about doing it. The comeback is ALWAYS greater than the setback. Bring on 2021. Sarah & Shannon WANT TO SEE YOUR BIG DAY IN

THE SMILE LAB Invisalign clear aligners are custommade for you to create your brand-new, confident smile. The aligners are virtually invisible and fit snugly over your teeth. Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically, rotating them when needed. Through treatment, you change your aligners weekly, following a custom treatment plan mapped out by your orthodontist. Typically, you receive 12 clear aligners at a time (3 months supply) so visits to the orthodontist are minimum. The length of treatment varies with the average case taking about 14-16 months, versus braces that often require 18 months to 3 years. Invisalign clear aligner treatment is made to fit your life - they don’t interrupt it. At every stage, you will be able to see your progress and enjoy your smile at it transforms. You don’t stop living your life - keep eating all your favorite foods, stay active in all the sports and activities you love, keep brushing and flossing just as you normally would, no hassle of brackets and wires as you would with traditional braces, and, most importantly for BRIDES, Invisalign clear aligners are virtually invisible, so people don’t notice you’re wearing them and your wedding festivities pictures stay braces free! Thanks to the removable nature of the aligners, you can eat and drink whatever you want while in treatment. You are required to remove your aligners to eat and drink with the exception of clear liquids. So, unlike traditional braces, there is no need to restrict your consumption of any of your favorite foods and snacks. Treatment is most effective when aligners are worn 20-22 hours per day, removing to eat, drink, brush and floss. Your personal Invisalign clear aligners are made by doing a 3D image of your teeth using an iTero scanner, no gross teeth molds anymore! The iTero scanner also allows your orthodontist to show you a virtual image of what your new smile will look like.

While Invisalign moves your teeth without the pain and anxiety metal braces can cause, some people do experience temporary discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. A benefit of changing aligners weekly is the process is more gradual than braces which can make the process less painful than traditional braces. Temporary discomfort is normal and typically described as a feeling of pressure. It’s also a sign that Invisalign is working, as it moves your teeth to their final destination. This discomfort usually goes away in a couple of days. Moving teeth is a prescribed medical procedure and needs supervision by an orthodontist. Moving teeth without thorough examination of the overall health of the teeth and gums could result in the permanent loss of teeth, gum loss, changed bites and other issues which can lead to expensive and lifelong dental problems. For this reason, it is highly recommended Invisalign treatment is done by a trained orthodontist. Inperson evaluation and supervision is very important because there is more to creating a healthy, beautiful smile than moving the visible portions of your teeth.
Let your smile glow on your wedding day. INVISALIGN 40% LESS THAN OTHERS Allison McClure Practice Relations Coordinator The Smile Lab The benefits of Invisalign go far beyond a beautiful smile. The American Dental Association (ADA) has found that straightening crooked teeth can have an important impact on overall dental health by reducing the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Studies by the ADA have also shown that oral infections can lead to more serious illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, pneumonia and diabetes. Teeth that are widely spaced or crowded can put you at a higher risk of contracting diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis and heart disease. When your teeth are positioned properly, your gums fit more firmly around your teeth, providing a stronger defense against plaque and bacteria which lead to gum infections. Besides correcting teeth that are crooked, gapped, or crowded, Invisalign aligners can also help fix abnormal bite functions - when the upper and lower jaws are unable to come together properly. When bite problems are left untreated, they can lead to further oral health issues including cavities, tooth loss, gum infections, tooth enamel erosion, and difficulties with speech and chewing. Other health benefits of Invisalign include self confidence, improved speech, improved ability to eat comfortably, easier oral care maintenance, reduced pain from TMJ symptoms caused by misalignment and less wear and tear of your teeth caused by crowded, crooked or misaligned teeth.

THE FLORALS
Rings are an important symbol in the ceremony, but florals are the real jewelry of a wedding. Choices made in color, arrangment, size, and bloom do more than accessorize - they help tell the story of your day. Whether you choose based on a flower’s traditional meaning or simple preference, florals add texture, movement, and romance to your wedding. A bouquet can accentuate the style of your dress. Centerpieces enliven a reception hall. Greenery brings warmth to ground each display. And a great floral vendor can help you make the best choices based on your personal style, venue, and budget. Whether hoops, headpieces, or more traditional bouquets, florals can add charm and whimsy to truly personalize your special day.

TO TAKE A DANCE LESSON BEFORE YOUR WEDDING You’ve bought the dress, chosen the flowers, tasted the cake, and started to iron out every last detail of your perfect day, but have you booked your dance lesson yet? Planning can be stressful but having a distraction with a dance class not only relieves stress, but also adds lots of laughter and love. Learning to dance and feeling confident on the dance floor will make a huge difference during your wedding by avoiding awkward, mundane dance moves and calming your nerves. Dancing for your wedding will require slightly different technique than learning to dance ballroom (so be careful if you are trying to look up moves off of the Internet). Taking a private dance lesson with someone who specializes in helping people dance at weddings before your big day will allow you to learn the technique and ways to move that are more appropriate and comfortable for a wedding. THE FOOD
What kind of food will you have at your wedding? Will it be a sit-down meal or buffet? Hand-passed appetizers or serving stations? Will you do cake or other desserts, or maybe a combination of the two? Some couples choose to serve their favorite foods, while others choose a theme, like “southern comfort foods.” As you plan, consider how you want the reception to look - do you want people seated and visting, or walking around and mingling? Will you serve alcohol, and does your venue allow you to choose your own vendors? Factors like the time of day, length of the wedding and reception, and budget can all affect these decisions, and a skilled caterer can help tailor a menu and options to suit your needs.

THE DRESS
Though there are a million little decisions that need to be made when planning your day, there is one decision that really drives the rest. There are tv shows about it, countless magazines devoted to it, and it tends to be the number one question people ask when they find out you are engaged. You’ve got it - it’s all about that dress. Your wedding dress should reflect your personal style, and can set the tone for the whole day. More than that, though - how you look and feel in the dress is paramount. The feeling you get when you see yourself in it for the first time, when you recognize that you feel like a bride, and all your emotions swell up with the realization that everything is changing - and yet everything is at is should be - that’s when you know you’ve found it, and can say yes to that dress.

We encourage you to bring your wedding binder if you have started one, any pictures or anything that might help us understand your wedding day vision. During our meeting we will help you find a venue and/or vendors that fit your style, budget and personality. We can work on a to-do list and arrange it based on priorities. THE DETAILS
A wedding is full of details, large and small, that come together to tell the story of your day. From the dress, to the flowers, and even the color of your napkins, the details are what make your wedding yours. Managing that many details (all of which will begin to feel like the-mostimportant-decision-ever as you move deeper into the planning) can be overwhelming. Thankfully, there are many ways to make the process easier. Using a wedding planner or full-service vendor centralizes the decisions, and moves the stress of management off your shoulders so you can truly enjoy the story you’re telling. Focusing in on what is really important to you can also help streamline the process - rather than getting caught up in the minutae, remember what the day is really about - a celebration of love and a promise for the future.

THE UNIQUE
What sets you apart as individuals and as a couple? What is your style? Rather than falling into traditional trappings of what a ceremony or reception should look like, what elements can you bring in to truly celebrate your story? In recent years, non-traditional menswear has become a bit of a trend, and it can be an excellent way for the groom to show some of his personal style. Bridal gowns, likewise, have become more varied in color, cut, and style. Ceremonies can be personalized, from location to the words spoken and the traditions, old or new, that are observed. Take the time to think about what makes you unique as a couple, and plan how to celebrate that together with friends and family.

As an artist, I have fallen in love with airbrush makeup for my brides. I love the versatility of airbrush products. Options are unlimited when it comes to deciding what type of look to choose. You can opt for a full coverage makeup look or a more
subtle, natural look. A wide variety of tones are available to custom color match each person’s skin. I have the ability to use my creativity with the airbrush, whether you want a radiant, natural look, or a full on glam. I can use airbrush for a full face makeup that includes foundation, blush, brows and contour. The airbrush can also be used for tattoo cover up when needed. In some situations I have used airbrush to cover sunburns, bug bites and or redness on the chest. The list goes on. In my
Evan Barnett Evanlution Salon experience, I have noticed that the groom and the mother of the bride absolutely love the airbrush look. Sometimes even the hesitant mother decides to have her face done as well, once she realizes that the makeup does not look overdone or heavy, but instead enhances natural beauty. How do you know if airbrush makeup is for you? If you are curious about trying airbrush makeup, I suggest having a trial at least 3-6 months before your wedding day. It’s better to know ahead of time if it’s the right fit for you. A trial run will give you an idea of how the makeup will feel and work on your skin, and give you a visual to see if it’s the look you are going for on that perfect day you’ve been planning. (If you’re feeling confident that you’re going to like this option, schedule your trial on the same day as your engagement photos to get the most out of your money!) If you have members of your bridal party interested in airbrush, they may want to schedule a trial as well. I love trials because it takes the guesswork out for the artist and the client. It helps the wedding day timeline, sometimes limited, go smoothly. Letting the artist know what you like and don’t like for your makeup ahead of time helps them deliver your desired look. And that’s exactly what we all want. Making you feel your best for your perfect day is the beginning of lots of smiles and wonderful memories to cherish. Airbrush makeup has been around for decades in film and theatre. Now, I’m excited to say it’s making a debut in the bridal industry. Airbrush makeup is applied with a tool that is known as an airbrush gun and is connected to an air compressor. The liquid makeup is blown out by air, giving soft, lightweight, untouchable results. The best feedback we’ve received from this process is that the makeup doesn’t feel heavy or caked
be very cold and/or rainy and everything in between. Airbrush makeup works well in all climates. The airbrush makeup I typically use is silicone based and works very well in different temperatures. This means that even when the bridal party is transitioning from an air-conditioned, indoor dressing rooms to humid outdoor areas, possibly more than once a day, their makeup will stay put! Airbrush makeup is also long lasting, sometimes up to 18 hours. Brides can have their face ready for the day early which can help make their day less stressful. I have had brides say that their makeup has lasted into the next morning! Since airbrush keeps product molecules tiny when dispensed onto the skin, it is almost invisible to the eyes and camera giving that flawless photo-ready look. It works very well with high definition photography and digital photos. And if we’re being honest, this is a huge priority on wedding day.

You’re dreaming up your perfect wedding. You’re checking Pinterest and Instagram to find the right flowers, the venue, the dress… the perfect look for your perfect day. Bringing everything together can be super stressful. Wedding decor and trends will come and go, but years from now when you’re looking through those wedding photos there’s one thing for sure- you want to be happy with your look. What look do you dream of on your wedding day? More importantly, how do you achieve it so that you feel your best on your big day? (and still love those photos in ten years…) There are so many things to consider when deciding on your bridal look and I’m here to tell you that airbrush makeup is one of them.

ALL ABOUT
THE PERSONAL
All of us dream of having a beautiful wedding, one family and friends remember years later. But what is it that truly makes a wedding stand out? We believe it is when all of the elements - flowers, venue, music, dress, ceremony, and so on - reflect the couple so personally that every guest feels they are given a glimpse into the couple’s true selves. When those elements come together and create a whole so much greater than it’s individual parts, and magic happens. Couples choose to personalize their weddings in a variety of ways, from decor to favors to handmade or carefully curated items. This wedding is a great example of a couple’s personality beaming throughout the day, and will surely be a day to remember.

ENGAGEMENT: 8 months WEDDING MONTH: July FIRST LOOK: Only with my Dad! FIRST DANCE SONG: “Faithfully” - Journey HONEYMOON DESTINATION: Disney World and Vero Beach FAVORITE PART OF THE PLANNING PROCESS: We had an amazing planner so I didn’t have to stress any! And, of course Andrew said his favorite part was taste-testing the food! ENGAGEMENT: Per Andrew: I wanted it to be a day when all of Blaire’s family could be there without raising suspicion. So, I chose a day when Kentucky had a home football game. I suggested we go to Midway, Blaire’s favorite small town for breakfast. We were walking downtown when I dropped to a knee! IMPORTANT ELEMENTS: Per Blaire: I am a deeply sentimental person, so our wedding had many elements that made it special. My “something blue” was a beautiful strand of blue beads that belonged to my sweet Aunt Francis who had passed. I had them restrung into a bracelet and wore them on my right hand. I wrapped the remaining beads around my bouquet. We also used Andrew’s father’s vintage car as our “getaway vehicle.” ADVICE: If you and your partner are happy with your choices, do not allow others to steal that joy.

THE VENUE
One of the first decisons you’ll make when planning your wedding is where to hold it. There are many factors to consider when choosing a venue that that go beyond simple aesthetics - can you hold both your ceremony and reception there? How many guests will the space accomodate? Do they have required vendors, such as caterer and bar service, or can you select your own? If it is an outdoor space, do they provide a rain contigency? And of course, is your date available? A venue helps set the tone for your wedding - from casual to formal, whimsical to elegant, for large or small gatherings - the venue provides the base to build upon. Here in Central Kentucky, we are fortunate to have many varied and excellent venues to choose from. Check some out now on our Venue Maps on pages 84-87.

LOOKING AND FEELING YOUR BEST In the months leading up to your wedding, it’s almost certain that there are going to be alterations and additions to your everyday routine. Maybe you’ve decided to start a new exercise routine or maybe the stress of preparing for your big day has taken a toll on your body. One of the most common symptoms we see in our future couples is tension headaches and TMJ pain/flare-ups. These can be easily treated through checking the muscles of the neck and upper back as well as posture. It’s typical in both of these conditions to find misalignments in the neck and back as well, which are easily corrected, with simple chiropractic manipulations. In many of the couples we work with, we see them entering or re-starting exercise routines or working with a personal trainer. We help check lifting form and make sure all the movements you’re performing are safe and correct so you can get the most out of your workouts while decreasing risk of injury. Sprains to ligaments and strains to muscle tendons are not uncommon in these cases and can be treated with rehab exercises to help strengthen weak muscle and stretches to decrease tension in overworked muscles. Our office also utilizes dry needling. This is a therapeutic tool that uses small, thin monofilament needles to penetrate the skin and treat underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. It’s a safe and

non-invasive soft tissue therapy to target muscles lying deep under the skin that are difficult to treat using tradition therapies. However, we do offer the traditional therapies in the clinic such as massage, active release, or cupping. Believe it or not, one of the more common conditions we see in our office for both brides and grooms are shin splints from new running or cardio routines. There are lots of different causes of this affliction and treatment can be very simple. Mostly this can be taken care of by simple running form and shoe checks. You’d be amazed at how easy it is to correct pain with simple alterations. We can advise about stretches and warm-up exercises to perform before and after activity to keep you moving and right on track with all your goals. These are just a few examples of aliments we typically see in our bridal population; we are happy and ready to take care of any and all pain or injures you might have or refer you to a provider that could better suit your condition. We have wonderful connections with other specialist in the Lexington area ranging from physical therapist, to primary care physicians, all the way to orthopedic and neurosurgeons. THE GIVEAWAY
When a team of over twenty-five vendors comes together to give away full wedding services and bring their very best to the couple receiving that service, magic happens. That’s what I had the joy of witnessing as I worked alongside some of the industry’s most prestigious professionals to give a wedding to a couple that deserved far more than even we could give. Jordan and Cory were a young couple, completely in love and not thrown in the slightest by the challenges they had already seen. At twelve years old, Jordan was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor that would eventually require a dangerous operation that left her partially paralyzed. Her story of recovery and strength is awe inspiring, and Cory’s devotion throughout the entire journey left us all teary-eyed and speechless. Before we selected the couple, the vendor group brainstormed on ways to bring a gift of this magnitude to the most deserving in a way that was fair, easy to implement, and repeatable in future years. We decided to host the giveaway as an application process, where anyone could apply, but we encouraged those with hardship and unforseen circumstances that prevented them from being able to marry their love to apply over the general population. We came across Jordan and Cory’s story when someone anonymously applied on their behalf, and we were all immediately overjoyed! We knew we found our couple. The planning process was a bit challenging but BEYOND rewarding. We all strived to give the best possible service we could financially and feasibly donate while still maintaining the integrity of the event in a way that it didn’t feel like a giveaway. I am still struck by how generous so many vendors were, giving freely of their time and talents to bring Cory and Jordan their perfect day. - Lindsey McCollum, White Oak Design, Co.

THE BLISS
LOVE STORY: Cory and I got engaged at Waveland Park in Lexington, Kentucky July 2014. A couple photographers stopped us as we were walking around and asked if they could take some pictures of us. They said that they were working an event there that weekend and were just wanting to see how the lighting was. Then Cory dropped to one knee and popped the question! Turns out Cory had hired the photographers to capture the proposal! He surprised me later that night with a dinner with my family and friends that I thought was going to be just us. For us, it was very important to book a venue with both a reception and rehearsal space together. Winchester Opera House was so beautiful and had so many options to make our lives easier! The decor and atmosphere was very important. It was amazing to see how everything came together and our guests had a great time! The photography was also an important element. The day goes by so fast so it was important to us to have lots of photos to look back at. Hire a wedding planner! Lindsay McCollum of White Oak Design, Co. was our wedding planner and she was amazing! She made the whole process much easier and a lot less stressful.

SERVICES
A WEDDING COORDINATOR PROVIDES With Pinterest, magazines, blogs, online reviews, and more, there are many planning tools available to today’s couple. Many are opting to do their own planning when it comes to their wedding. For the day itself, however, having a professional to organize vendors, coordinate the party and pictures, and ensure that guests, family and couple are well-taken care of can make all the difference! Different coordinators offer different services, but here are nine that most provide: Organize Vendors
Many DOC (Day of Coordinators) actually begin a month before the wedding takes place. In that time, your coordinator keeps in contact with caterers, florists, photographers, cake decorators, DJ’s, rental companies, and the venue. This ensures that everyone is aware of arrival times, breakdown times, and expectations. This allows the couple to hand over the majority of communication so they can focus on (and enjoy) the final month of engagement. Create a Timeline for the Big Day
Oversee Day Of Setup
Having spent the time upfront with you to understand your vision, a Coordinator can oversee your venues’ setup for the day. This allows you to see the final product in one piece, alleviating any stress that it won’t get done. Spending time with loved ones, getting hair/makeup or photos done, or relaxing is more important. Work with the Wedding Party
While many venues provide their own coordinator for the ceremony, he or she often works with a hired coordinator. This is to ensure that attendants carry out their part, each member of the bridal party walks down the aisle at their time, and that music starts and stops as envisioned. At the reception, the Coordinator can instruct the Maid of Honor, Best Man, or parents when to make a speech. Any issues the bridal party may have during the day (ripped hose, chipped polish, extra bobby pins, scuff marks on suit, errant ties, floppy boutonnieres, etc.) can be dealt with by the Coordinator. This lets the couple enjoy the day and focus on their families Keith and Melissa Photography and one another.
A wedding has many different people involved and often multiple venues. It is therefore essential that someone keeps track of when, where, who, and what is happening for the full day. A Coordinator will not only figure out the logistics but be on hand to ensure everything and everyone arrives at the correct time, hair/makeup happens in time for preceremony photos, and everything is in place. More importantly, a Coordinator is on hand to deal with anything that does not go according to plan. Help You Remember the Little Details
On top of all the people and places, there are many little decisions to make, 72 • BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE
organize, or prepare before a wedding. Your DOC can provide you with checklists and timelines (as well as advice) to make sure each part of your wedding has been carefully thought out.
Style Photos
Every bride and groom talk about their wedding as a “blur”, making your wedding photos all the more precious. A DOC that works in tandem with your photographer(s) will not only help put them at ease but you as well. Let your coordinator keep track of your photo list, finding family members, making sure your dress’s train looks right, everyone’s
Grace Warren Weddings + Events Manager Weddings at Asbury shirts are tucked appropriately, and hair is out of faces. Your photographer(s) will thank you for letting them focus on their craft and you will love how polished your photos turn out. Keep the Couple Happy
Your wedding day is one of the biggest days of your life! There are a million little details. A Day of Coordinator will be armed with extra hairspray, tampons, bobby pins, mints, tissues, clear polish, or anything else a bride may possibly need to be photo-ready. Additionally, your DOC can have the caterers pack special plates for afterward or give you some extra time to eat alone, whichever you prefer. He or she can also keep up with you during the ceremony to make sure you’re both staying hydrated.
Create a thousand memories in a single night
Close Out the Vendors
On your wedding day, you should be on the dancefloor enjoying your reception or catching up with friends and family. A coordinator can handle any unpaid invoices, tips, or thank you cards for vendors from the couple or their families after making sure each vendor’s duties have been fulfilled. Handle Guest Relationships
While weddings are magical and a time for celebration, planning and execution can be stressful and bring out tension between family members and guests. Your DOC will be able to help with any last-minute decisions, smooth flared emotions, and provide a buffer between you and any unnecessary conversations.

You’ve dreamed of having an outdoor wedding, but your mom/sister/ aunt keeps asking, “what if it rains?” You’ve seen weddings with tents, but doesnt that take away from the whole idea of being outside? Not necessarily. With a little planning and intentionality, even the indoors can be made to feel like you’re still outdoors through color, texture, and continuity. Tents are available in many varieties and adaptations - need a roof but not walls? Need sides to block the wind but not the view? Tent rentals have got you covered (pun mostly intended). Whatever the weather, your outdoor wedding vision can be a reality.

THE RUSTIC
Rustic charm is timeless and beautiful, and a great springboard for your wedding day planning. If gold and gild isn’t your style, maybe you will find beauty in reclaimed wood, wildflowers, and handmade touches that create a restless elegance. The rustic style celebrates an earthiness of spirit and the joy we find in each other. It’s about how differences come together with beauty. Find something that speaks to your heart, and use that as a starting point for planning. Is it a particular flower? A color? Wood or metal? Maybe handlettering, your mother’s lace, or a certain atmosphere? Find your muse and plan away, remembering that the most important detail is celebrating the love you share with the people around you.

THE DANCE
All eyes are on you throughout the day, so it can feel like a show as much as a celebration. So why not really make it a performance and turn up the volume on the dance floor? Traditional mother-son and father-daughter dances highlight the emotions that come along with transitioning from son and daughter to husband, wife, lover, partner. The featured dance of the reception, however, is the first dance for the new couple. With all eyes on you, dance lessons can be a great way to build confidence, skill, and even romance. A dance professional can show you how to move together, teach traditional dance steps, or help you share your personality by choreogreographing a special dance - even the famous showstopping number from Dirty Dancing!

THE TV SHOW
After appearing on TLC and UPtv as a dress designer for reality tv personalities, ABC Channel 36 approached Renee Cunningham of Renee’s Bridal in Mt. Sterling about hosting her own reality tv show. Renee took the idea and ran with it! Season 1 premiered in January 2020, but began taping long before that. Episode 1 opened up with Renee sharing how she and her husband Les met and planned their wedding last year. During that time Renee got to see first hand the quality vendors we have right here in central Kentucky. Renee’s vendor experience helped pave the way for her to say, “YES!” to her own reality show. Given the creative professionals in central KY, she knew she could produce quality content. Season 1 featured Jessica & Joe. Once filming began and it was less than a month before the wedding took place! Renee reached out to many of the vendors she used for her own wedding to help bring it all together. Jessica had some ideas of her own that were extraordinary and Renee was able to incorporate those as well. It was important for Jessica to have some personal touches in her décor and sentimental touches. Jessica grew up in eastern Kentucky, coal country, where her dad was a coal miner. There is the saying, “It’s good luck to leave with a piece of coal in your pocket.” In order to include this idea, The Added Touch was able to add some pieces of coal into the reception centerpieces. Jessica previously worked at Mountain Comprehensive Care Center where the residents worked tirelessly in the Greenhouse. She wanted to feature some of their beautiful ferns throughout the venue to show her support to their programs. When Renee and Les got married, Renee carried her father’s Bible and that inspired Jessica to include this idea into her wedding. After calling upon her family, Jessica was able to secure 13 Bibles as far back as her groom’s great, great, great grandfather. Each of her 10 bridesmaids carried one down the aisle, as well as herself. Almost everything was a surprise for Jessica on the day of, but the one thing Renee and her team really got her with was country music artist Emily Miller. When Renee reached out to Emily about singing at the wedding she was on board instantly. Emily sang her incredible song, “Prince Charming.” From the mixed china, to the leopard couch and chandeliers in the trees, Renee and the entire vendor team gave Jessica and Joe a once in a lifetime experience. To catch Renee’s Bridal Takeover Seasons 1 and 2, head over to YouTube now. Season 3 will premiere in early 2021.

The wedding cake is often the focal point of the reception. Whether you like something small and simple or towering tiers of grandeur, your wedding cake should reflect your personality and style. If you’re planning a rustic barn reception or an opulent ballroom event, there are some easy ways to customize your wedding cake to fit your theme and personalities. Statement Tiers
Adding a statement tier is a great way to inject some personality and creativity into your cake design. Even if you love the look of an allwhite cake, you can amp up the design by adding one tier with a special element, like texture or piping. Or if you are adventurous, add a color or metallic to one tier, along with some florals for pops of color. Color
Color is a great way to customize your cake. It can be easily accomplished by adding florals, but don’t be afraid to add color to the cake itself. Naked cakes and textured buttercream cakes are beautiful, but they tend to all look the same. Mix up the design by adding a bit of color, or an ombre finish to the buttercream. But be aware that darker colors could possibly stain the teeth of your guests. Shape
When we think of wedding cakes, we typically imagine round tiers, but changing up the shape can make a huge 116 • BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE

DESIGNING THE PERFECT CAKE FOR YOUR PERFECT DAY difference in the overall look of the cake. Geometric shapes are trending this year, so why not add a hexagon tier for some added interest. Jenfolio
Size Matters
Consider the number of guests and the size of your venue when designing your cake. If your reception will be held in a large ballroom or an area with high ceilings, consider a taller cake. Your baker can easily change the diameter of the tiers, so that you can have a taller cake without adding too many extra servings. Dummy tiers (or Styrofoam tiers) can also be a great option if you want a taller cake without the added servings.

Display
How you choose to display the cake is just as important as the actual design. Consider using a cake stand, florals and personalized elements on the cake table to add to the design of the cake and the overall space. For example, if you are planning a garden-themed wedding, add greenery, grassy elements or flowers under and around the cake stand. It will help to enhance your theme and coordinate with the rest of the reception décor. Personalization
It’s easy to add personal touches to your wedding cake to enhance the theme. For
Becky Holman Bit of Whimsy Cakes instance, having a special flavor such as bourbon for a Kentucky themed wedding at a distillery. Include design elements from the wedding dress like lace pieces or buttons. Many couples like to add a special element for the groom, like his favorite superhero hidden in the cake. But some personal touches may only be for the couple and/or their families. I once had a bride who had collected hob knob milk glass with her grandmother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was not going to be able to attend the wedding. Many Lisa Dotson, Photographer pieces of their collection were going to be used as centerpieces at the reception. We added a statement tier with a piped hob knob pattern in honor of her grandmother. To anyone just looking at the cake, it was a white cake with some simple dots on one tier. When the bride looked at her cake, she knew exactly what it was and it reminded her of fond childhood memories. Now she can be reminded of those memories every time she looks at her wedding photos. When you look back on your wedding day, you’ll remember all of the special details that stood out. Let the design of your wedding cake contain something special that you can treasure for years to come.

THE SWEETS
Wedding receptions have come a long way from the all-white tiered cakes - though they still perfectly fit the occasion! These days, you are just as likely to see a colorful and non-traditional wedding cake or an assortment of sweet treats including donuts, cupcakes, or macarons. Couples are choosing desserts that fit the theme of their day, or their particular taste and preference. Single-serving desserts make it easier for guests to serve themselves, which can cut down on the need for serving staff — and you can still choose to have a smalller cake for cutting and feeding each other to keep that tradition as part of your day.

STYLED Shoot “VINTAGE WONDERLAND”
This beautiful shoot showcases so many stunning elements! In Kentucky, we never know what the weather will be for your wedding - it’s even snowed on Derby Day before. Although the bride is wearing a shoulder cover in the snow, her spring-themed bouquet still work perfectly. It’s important to pick a few elements that are important to you for your wedding and go with those, regardless of the weather, your venue, etc. It’s all about your dream and vision.
THE VENDORS
ALONG WITH: Smits Florist & Greenhouses
FEATURE: Stationery Allison Oliphant Wild Joy Studios Invitation: Generally, this is the first thing that pops into people’s minds when they start thinking about wedding related paper. It makes sense! This card is often the center of attention, and where you put the most important information about your big event. You’ll typically include the names of the hosts, you and your partner’s names, the name of the venue, and the date and time. You typically wouldn’t include the address of the venue here, or any website information. RSVP: The RSVP card has one simple, main job. It will let you know who does and doesn’t plan to attend, and usually helps you catch misunderstandings about who exactly is invited. It can do so much more than this though! You can have a simple one with just space to include names and attendance, or you could go further and have attendance for separate events, meal choices, song requests, and really any other questions for your guests you can think of! Information Card: One of the most useful additions to an invitation set, the information card can tell your guests so much. From dress code requests, to directions to your venue, or a schedule of the weekend, anything and everything that is important to you for your guests to be aware of can be included on an information card.
Map Insert: The map insert is used for a practical purpose, location information and/or activity suggestions. Maps, after all, are for showing where things are! Show your guests where the ceremony will be, where to go for the reception afterwards, and where their hotels are. Or for another twist, show your out of town guests where all your favorite spots are, where the proposal happened, your first date, or even places you both have lived in the past. Most importantly, it can add a gorgeous, heirloom art piece to your wedding collection, that you will cherish for years to come. 130 • BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE
Inner Envelope: The inner envelope is the traditional way to inform your guests exactly who is invited. It’s also the best place to include an envelope liner if you’re opting to include those. Since most inner envelopes are ungummed, or at the very least can be left unsealed, your guests won’t rip through the pretty liner when opening your lovely invitations. I recommend inner envelopes when any bulkier elements, such as ribbon or wax seals are used in your invitation design. The extra layer of protection helps ensure that your lovingly designed paper finds its way to its destination. Envelope Liner: A optional, but super fun addition to your wedding paper is envelope liners. It really goes a long way for tying your paper theme together. Outer Envelope: The outer envelope is the home of all your pretty paper and is responsible for carrying it all safely to its destination. For going through the postal service, it’s safest to include both the destination address and your return address on the front of the envelope, but ninety percent of the time it is safe to move the return address to the back-envelope flap for design purposes. When an address is put on a back flap, there is a small chance that it will get turned upside down going through the machine that USPS uses to read addresses, and it will just get sent right back to you. For outer envelopes, I encourage my couples to use white ink on only darker papers, and dark ink only on lighter papers, to ensure legibility while it is traveling through the postal service. Honorable mentions: There are a few fun things you can include in your wedding paper set. Belly bands can be anything that you use to hold your paper all together. You can use ribbon, string, or just a paper belly band or combinations of several of these. Wax seals are an option that goes great with belly bands, and gives you a way to hold the band itself together. A wedding logo (or monogram, or crest!) is always a fun addition for couples that want to go that little extra step towards almost branding their wedding. You can feature your logo on all sorts of things throughout your wedding, which goes a long way towards tying together your big day. BRIDAL BLISS MAGAZINE • 131

Event specialists can help provide ideas for your spaces, bringing an atmosphere and mood to life. Maybe centerpieces with stacked books speak to the bibliophile, while candles and pastel colors whisper romance. ENGAGEMENT: 18 months WEDDING MONTH: August FIRST LOOK: Yes FIRST DANCE SONG: “You Wreck Me” - Tom Petty HONEYMOON DESTINATION: The Victorian Mansion, Los Alamos, CA PROPOSAL: Phil and I were on a vacation to Florence, Italy when he proposed. Even though it was cold and we were jetlagged we climbed up to the highest point in the city, Piazzale Michelangelo. Phil asked me to take a panoramic picture of the view and when I turned around he was on one knee. After asking if he was serious I quickly replied, “Okay, yeah!” before he could take it back. CHOOSING A VENUE: My mom is a saint and did all the venue scouting for us since we live in CA. We ultimately chose The Mane on Main for the Kentucky charm, wonderful staff and amazing views of Downtown Lexington. IMPORTANT ELEMENTS: The most important element, by far, was the enjoyment of our guests. We wanted to create an enchanted forest environment where they could all gather and have a great time.

HOW TO HIT THE SUPERFECTA WHEN HIRING A DJ When most couples sit down to plan their dream wedding, the first word that comes to many couple’s minds is “cost.” How much will that cost us and where can we save to have this at our wedding? Hiring the right team of wedding professionals for your particular style can be a daunting task for many couples. Fortunately, there are a ton of great professionals right here in Lexington.

A wedding is a unique event that requires skill and expertise. A wedding DJ or Emcee is much more than playing music. They are responsible for coordinating your timeline, orchestrating the introduction and flow of events, working with your other vendors, managing your guests and reading the crowd to ensure each and every song is played at just the right time. When your wedding is over, how will you and your guests judge the success of your reception? As a professional DJ, we have a vested interest in the success of your wedding day. We know everyone will cherish dancing the night away together at this once in a lifetime celebration.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN HIRING A PROFESSIONAL DJ Vested Interest An amateur DJ typically hasn’t performed enough weddings to understand the issues that can arise. They are usually in it “for the fun”, and if something were to go wrong, they may not be prepared to handle it. A professional takes the time to prepare and ensure every piece of equipment is properly working before your guests arrive. We risk our entire reputation and livelihood with every performance. We want your wedding day to be just as special as you do. A professional DJ meticulously plans each and every detail and song. Importance of a Great Emcee I like using the word “polished” when describing our Emcee skills to a client. A professional DJ should look, act and speak in a polished manner. An Emcee has a huge impact on the mood and outcome of your reception. Professional DJ’s invest in vocal training and practice to optimize their performance. We also know when to make announcements, keep tabs on your guests and make sure everyone is having a good time. Our goal is to ensure we keep the reception smooth and flowing for the duration of the evening. All the while, not bothering you and allowing you to maximize the time you spend with your guests.

Matt Gwynn Riptide Productions Dependability With many couples hiring a DJ 6-12 months out from their wedding, it is vital you hire a professional who offers a contract and peace of mind. You are investing in the success of your wedding when hiring a DJ. A professional DJ is an experienced entertainer with the proper equipment and training necessary to ensure your special day goes as planned. Professional Etiquette As the wedding night wears on, drinks are flowing, and excitement grows, your “must play” list should never just be thrown out the window. As a professional DJ, it is our passion to ensure you are happy. We make sure to play the songs as discussed prior to the reception. A professional DJ will be ready on time for the event, in the proper attire and wearing a smile to greet your guests as they arrive. A DJ plays a large role in the mood of the event and you should hire a someone that you trust. Hiring vendors that you are confident in is a good start to insuring that your big day goes as planned. Your wedding is something that you have envisioned for months if not years and we want it to be perfect!

THE SEASON
Choosing a wedding date is sometimes based on availability of a venue or vendor, or sometimes family work schedules. Wherever your date happens to fall during the year, highlighting the season can be a great way to add personality and memorable elements to your wedding. From the florals to the decor, the attire to the smallest details, incorporating seasonal elements can really pack a punch! Think color, texture, and decorative elements that go along with your season. Small buds and blooms with light colors can highlight spring. Bright whites and layers of texture and shimmer can bring warmth to an icy winter wedding, while deep reds with poinsettias and ribbons could highlight the Christmas season. Here, we see that autumn tones and pumpkins add both elegance and earthiness to this fall wedding.
