Carrera Internacional cruza Stockton Stockton, CA- Cuatro corredores que participan en la Jornadas 2012 Paz y Dignidad se detuvieron por las calles de Stockton en su camino a Alaska. A los corredores experimentados se les unió un grupo de corredores locales que se reunieron en Plea for the Peace Center el sábado, 21 de abril para atraer la paz en Stockton. Justo antes de la salida del sol justo comenzaron la ruta de 10 - millas que comenzó en la calle Weber, para después pasar por Sutter St, Center y Harding Way - “estamos sanando las calles de Stockton,” dijo uno de los corredores. International run crosses Stockton

STOCK TON, CA- Four runners stopped through the streets of Stockton on their way to Alaska as they participate in the Peace and Dignity Journey of 2012. The experienced runners were joined by a group of local runners that gathered at the Plea for Peace Center on Saturday, April 21st. The local group promotes efforts to bring peace to Stockton. They prayed to the rising sun just before starting the 10-mile course, which started on Weber St. and continued through central Stockton on Sutter Street, Center Street and Harding Way. “We are healing Stockton streets,” said one of the runners. The Peace and Dignit y Journeys started in 1992 as a way to unite and strengthen indigenous cultures; since its inception, the run occurs every four years.
This year Stockton was able to par ticipate in the journey following the work of local nonprofit organizations GRASSROOTS and Fathers and Families of San Joaquin. The run was part of the organization’s three-day event titled “Seven Generations of Health, Healing, and Hope.” T h e 2 01 2 Jo u r n e y i s dedicated to emphasizing the importance and scarcity of water. In 1992, leaders f rom different communities and tribes of North and South America gathered in Quito, Ecuador to prepare for the five hundredth anniversary of the “discovery of North and South America.” The founders rejected the idea of calling it a discovery, “it was an invasion,” explained experienced runner Hector Cerda as they prepared to start the run. “One of the things that
came out of that gathering was this run, a run across the hemisphere,” continued Cerda, who started participating in the run in 2000. The seven-mont h long journey is formed by two groups starting simultaneously at both ends North and South of the continent — on the northern side is Alaska and on the southern side is Argentina. Both of the groups will come together for a final gathering in Central America, in Guatemala, later on this year. “We did not disappear; we are st ill here, we are still struggling against the colonization of our people, our cultures, our bodies and our spiritually,” said Cerda. Through the 10 mile run, runners carry several sacred staffs that contain the hopes, dreams and prayers of the indigenous communities that the runners visit.

Lila Towns is often described by her friends as a woman with a young heart, classic and confident. She immigrated to California in the 1960s and has stayed in Stockton ever since. Towns—who is 85—could be considered as a role model for emerging young women, she`s active, determined, strong, and very passionate about learning. “I’ve always gone to school. I never stopped. Right now I’m getting ready to go in June,” said Towns. Towns graduated from MIT Business College in Stockton and has been enrolled off and on at Delta College, where she has taken classes in English and Math.
“I went back years later to study mathematics, I have never liked math but it is much needed.” Towns is also a certified translator, and has recently s t a r t e d he r ow n s e w i n g business from home. Soft-spoken, with blonde hair and a light complexion, people often don’t realize Towns is Mexican. However Towns is very proud of her heritage, and keeps it alive by doing simple things like cooking her famous chiles rellenos - a traditional Mexican dish. “Things have changed a lot from the time that I grew up,” says Towns, adding: “There were no cell phones, no computers, we used typewriters.” A n d a l t h o u g h To w n belongs to a generation often not associated with technology, she owns a computer and even has a Facebook account to stay connected with her family in Culiacan, Mexico. Dur ing her spare time Towns plays the piano, teaches others how to play it, and she is also in the process of writing a book. “I have played the piano since I was in Mexico; I learned before I was fifteen ... the piano lifts the spirit up, it revives you, that is why it is so important to play any musical instrument,” added Towns. “I am healthy and I cannot waste my time, a year ago I started my book. I have to write it.” For Towns the secret to living a happy life is to “always think positive, and to not care so much about money.”

The story follows Isabel Ga l legos, t he daug hter of Argentine immigrants who came to the United States. Isabel was brought by her parents to make a new life and claim the American Dream. Isabel, raised and schooled in Argentina. She is a confident and successful Spanish-English bilingual Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a winery in Temecula, Southern California. In the process of getting to the top, though, she loses sight of other personal dreams and separates from her alcoholic husband with whom she must remain in contact on a daily basis at work. O ne d ay, s he r e c e i ve s a telegram from Argentina informing her that her best friend and prima (cousin), along with her husband, has been killed in a tragic skiing accident and has left her three preteen children in her custody. The fun begins: custody battles with a much disliked primo (cousin) in-law, international legal issues in regards to minors, parenting skills and questions of who is a better guardian ensue, pitting a divorced winery CEO who has never had children and works 15 hours a day against a never married, self-made rancher and attorney who feel he owes it to his deceased brother to care for the children. Both parties really do not want the responsibility, but when forced, attempt to use their personal fortunes to buy
the children’s affection. In the process of trying to do what is best for the children all the adults involved learn the true meaning of love, the sacrifices that one has to make and that money cannot buy love. Amante deals quite adeptly with the issues of love and responsibilities of being a parent vs. friend, and handles the issues of alcoholism, recovery and treatment sensitively. However, when the Spanishonly speaking children come to California, the especially young Adelmo is picked on and discriminated against because of his accent and ethnicity. The 10 year old, developing Sandra who is looking for a mother figure in her life and eight year old Adelmo who is looking for a father figure and young Julieta who just wants to cuddle and be loved want to stay with Isabel, but they, and especially Adelmo, want to return to Argentina. It would have been a deeper story had the author had gone deeper into the ethno-racism that she hinted at, but maybe as a Central A merican she does not feel the generational and historical experience that Mexicans have experienced since the “Gold Rush” of 1849 and half of Mexico’s country. This is an exciting and easy to read book that I would recommend to all from high school age and older. You will enjoy it. James Butler runs for Stockton Mayor Plant Maintenance Supervisor, James Butler, is one of the candidates interested in leading the city of Stockton in 2013. “I was raised in a small town in Oklahoma,” said Butler, “I first came to Stockton in 1970 while on R&R [Rest & Recuperation Leave] from my first naval tour overseas ... I fell in love with Stockton and it citizens.” After his service in the U.S. Navy, Butler settled in Stockton. “There was no chance of a higher education for me, but if you could work with your hands you could make a life for you and your family,” says Butler, describing his empathy for working class families of Stockton. “I am still a working class person…I experience every day the decisions that working class citizens make to provide food, shelter, transportation and a future for their families.” Seeing the many poor decisions made by Cit y Management sparked his desire to run for mayor, says Butler. “When I questioned these [decisions] I was told I do not understand the big picture!” While the City of Stockton continues the battle to prevent bankruptcy, if elected mayor, by the time Butler takes office the bankruptcy will “either be in process, completed or stopped,” he says. “This would be the best time to take the reins…we will be working with real dollars instead of the inflated information.” If elected, Butler says he will focus on providing long term jobs and assisting the working class citizens in purchasing homes and building businesses. “This will bring up home values in the neighborhoods and assist in lowering crime. If we put our citizens back to work I believe the crime will reduce itself. Other candidates running against Mayor Ann Johnston are: bar owner Jimmie Rishwain, Boys & Girls CEO Anthony Silva, Gregory Pitsch, and former council member Ralph Lee White.

Gracias por publicar todo el comentario [en internet], CBS paro en el de 10-años de edad y no incluyo la petición para investigar como el Padre con quejas criminales pendientes, pero una gran recaudación de fondos, fue permitido para continuar su ministro a pesar de la política del Papa y la póliza de la Diócesis de Stockton. Es una des fortuna que él se fue del país pero yo espero que lo regresen para que encare los cargos criminales que debieron ser presentados. ¿Cómo es que alguien bajo investigación puede bailar fuera del país? El fondo de su defensa bien lo puedo ver cubierto porque fue conveniente pero caro para el obispo Blair y el Cardinal Mahoney al no ver tomado un lugar. Pero al final es el dinero de los parroquianos que les pavimento el camino para prevenir ser avergonzados por no tomar acción en ves de moverlo a un área desolada con control mínimo. Thank you for posting the whole comment [on-line], CBS stopped at the 10 year old and did not include the call for investigating how a priest with pending criminal complaints, but a great fund raiser, was allowed to continue in the ministry despite the Pope’s policy and the Stockton Diocese’s own policy. It is unfortunate that he has fled the country but I hope he will be brought back to face the criminal charges which should have already been filed. How is it that someone who is under investigation gets to waltz out of the country? His defense fund may well have provided cover for that it was convenient but expensive for Bishop Blair and Cardinal Mahoney to not have to take the stand. But in the end it is the parishioner’s money that paved the way for them to avoid the embarrassment of why no action was taken other than moving him to relatively isolated areas with limited policing. I hope the supporters who wore green to the verdict of phase one, like it was a basketball game rather than a child rape trial saved those shirts so they can wear them to the criminal sentencing when he returns to the USA. SHAME ON YOU for being so insensitive and blind to the truth.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, MITT ROMNEY & UNFUNDED MANDATES. for many years Americans have been financially haunted by unfunded mandates, forced on them by the courts–taxed into paying for illegal aliens who managed to slip through the border or travel on an international jet with no intentions in returning to their country of birth. The most expensive payout is illegal females who are carrying a fetus within her womb, who know if they reach American soil they will get free delivery, post natal care and every conceivable extra that should be the exclusive rights of birthright and naturalized citizens. The fourteenth amendment has been overreached by the courts and as there is very little chance of changing the law. But the American voters can at least alter the statute, which grants only immediate citizenship to a newborn infant of where at least one family member has actual citizenship status. The “foothold” baby is probably the most expensive unfunded mandated law, which states have to pour out their pockets from U.S. taxpayers. Billions dollars could be saved from bringing commonsense to this section of the law, by passing an amendment. The majority of European nations have passed laws, which are designed to change this insane law we are held accountable too? I assume that Presidential contender Mitt Romney is aware that illegal immigration is causing fiscal suffering specifically to the working class Americans….. STOCKTON, CA - Padres y Familiares de San Joaquín llevo a cabo la cumbre de “Niños y Hombres de Color”, en la Universidad del Pacífico en Viernes, 20 de abril. “ Ne c e s i t a m o s q u e l o s ancianos de la comunidad hablen de nuevo acerca de las verdaderas tradiciones, los valores reales y los aspectos de significado de ser un hombre”, dijo el galardonado autor y reconocido orador, Jerry Tello. “Muchos de estos jóvenes de hoy, creen que ser hombre significa beber, tener mujeres, pelear, ser violento, no tienen idea de lo que el verdadero sentido de que ser un hombre honorable es.” La cumbre continuó con una presentación de George Galvitz , de Comunidades Unidas para Restaurar Justicia en los Jóvenes y por Michael Tubbs, de los Euroditos de Phoenix, una presentación que se centró en cómo las comunidades pueden colaborar para mejorar los resultados en la juventud. “Cada uno de nosotros necesita organizarse en la comunidad y con nuestros a m i go s , n a d i e t i e ne u n a conexión con el barrio como tú”, dice Tubbs. “Hay una guerra en las calles, 58 homicidios en Stockton el año pasado, niños y hombres de color se están muriendo y si nosotros no lo cambiamos nadie lo hará”. Por su parte Galvitz animó a los jóvenes en la audiencia a vivir con alegría, humor, amor y a olvidarse de los dichos de que un hombre no se debe llorar, ya que el llorar puede ser utilizado como método de un curación y de cómo descarga emocional. “Si mantienienes todo el dolor dentro de ti, el dolor se convierte en enojo, este se convierte en ira y la ira se convierte en violencia”, dice Galvitz. Handing Traditions to upcoming generations STOCKTON, CA - Fathers and Families of San Joaquin hosted, “The Boys and Men of Color Summit” at the University of the Pacific on Friday, April 20th. “We need the elders in the community to speak up again about the true traditions, the true values and aspects of what it means to be a man,” said award-winning author and noted speaker, Jerry Tello. “Many of these young boys today think that being a man means drinking, having women, fighting, being violent; they have no idea what the true sense of being an honorable man means.” The summit continued with a panel presentation from George

with joy, humor, and love and to forget about the old saying that a man is not supposed to cry, because crying can be used as a healing method and an emotion release. “If you keep all the pain inside you, pain becomes anger, anger becomes rage, and rage becomes violence,” says Galvitz. The summit concluded with the presentation “One Drum, One Nation; the drum as a tool towards healing” by Tello and Dr. Sal Nunez. “Every culture has their drums, the drum is symbolic of your mother’s heartbeat, is part of our healing, drums bring resonance, it can calm your spirit and [keep] your anxiety down, “said Tello.

The City of Stockton’s fee for street closures exceeds $5,000 plus. “We pay [for] insurances, garbage, rest room facilities, print materials and other fees,” noted Ruiz-Huston. The Cinco de Mayo Parade is scheduled to be held May 6, 2012 in Downtown Stockton. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. at Weber Institute and the winners of the various parade categories will be announced at the Sus Finansas (Your Finances) event at the Civic Auditorium.
